AEW Dynamite - April 10, 2024
AEW Owner and CEO Tony Khan opens the show with a special announcement. He says that this month’s Fyter Fest will instead be a pay-per-view event on Saturday, April 27: AEW Dynasty. And AEW is going…ahem…all out with its PPV lineup moving forward: Dynasty in April; Double or Nothing in May; Forbidden Door in June; All In London in August; All Out in September; WrestleDream in October; Full Gear in November and Worlds End in December.
He also confirms that the Main Event of Dynasty will be Cody Rhodes defending the AEW Championship against his brother, Dustin Rhodes.
—
Match 1 - Kofi Kingston (4-5) w/ Xavier Woods vs. Karl Anderson (1-0) w/ Luke Gallows
Kingston gets the win with a Trouble in Paradise after 9 minutes. Following the match, Gallows attacks him with a chair, then hits the Gallows Pole on an intervening Woods. They hit the Magic Killer on Kingston and pose over the New Day with the tag team championships.
—
We see a recap of last week’s attack on Logan Paul by Jake Hager and Dean Malenko. Pat McAfee informs us that Paul suffered a concussion and will be out of action for a month, meaning that he will miss his scheduled TNT Championship shot at Dynasty.
—
Match 2 - Isis the Amazon (0-0) vs. The Bunny (1-6)
Isis wins with a chokeslam in 2 minutes. After the match, she reiterates her desire to end Jade Cargill’s streak.
—
Matt Riddle is scootering backstage and comes across Scotty Flamingo. He asks Scotty if he and Mox are going to fight again. Scotty replies that he’s just gotta keep his face pretty, and asks what Riddle meant by his “not cool, bro” comment last week. Riddle says that Flamingo cheated to win; so Flamingo slaps him. Riddle responds right away, but they’re pulled apart by nearby security. A match is set for later tonight.
—
Match 3 - Six-man tag team action: Blackpool Combat Club (Castagnoli, Yuta & Moxley) vs. Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus and Marko Stunt)
BCC gets the win with Mox hitting the Paradigm Shift on Stunt after 11 minutes.
—
TNT Champion Dean Malenko and Jake Hager come to the ring next. Malenko expresses remorse and disappointment that Logan Paul got injured last week. It’s just too bad that he won’t make his championship match…
Wardlow’s music hits, and Paul Heyman emerges with his new Next Big Thing. Heyman says he knows how disappointed Malenko was that he wouldn’t be able to defend his title against Logan Paul. So Heyman with to JBL with an idea: Wardlow can take Paul’s place this month, and can defend his newly won TNT Championship against Paul when he’s healthy.
Malenko’s face goes white as he screams that it’s not fair.
—
We see another promo for Zack Sabre Jr., calling himself the Pro Wrestling Master, and he’s coming soon to AEW.
—
Match 4 - Jacob Fatu (1-0) w/ Rikishi vs. Carlito (2-2)
Fatu wins with the Mighty Moonsault in 8 minutes.
—
Preview for Collison: Dustin Rhodes will be in attendance to talk about his upcoming title opportunity; DX will face LAX in six-man tag team action; Kenny Omega responds to Goldberg’s challenge; Sammy Guevara vs. Cedric Alexander; Gauntlet Match for a chance at the AEW Women’s Championship; and UWA Women’s Champion Jade Cargill responds to Isis the Amazon.
—
FTR is backstage and walks into general manager JBL’s office. They say that they came to AEW with a lot of hoopla surrounding them as former universal Tag Team champions. But JBL has yet to give them a chance to do much here.
JBL smiles his big Texan smile and says that he has an idea. They can help him nip a growing problem in the bud, next week on Dynamite. They ask what it is. He just smiles and shoos them away.
—
Main Event - Matt Riddle (11-7) vs. Scotty Flamingo (3-1)
It’s a fast-paced, back-and-forth affair until Jeff Cobb comes out to the ring and distracts Riddle. Flamingo wins with a roll-up at 14 minutes, then celebrates like he won a championship while Riddle chases after Cobb.
While Flamingo is celebrating, he doesn’t notice Jon Moxley slide into the ring with a barbed wire baseball bat. Mox taps on his shoulder, then plants the bat in Flamingo’s face as he turns around. Mox sneers at a fallen Flamingo as the show ends.
AEW Collision - April 13, 2024
The Elite kick off the show flanked by a huge security force. Kenny Omega talks about fearing for his life and calls Goldberg a dangerous man and a menace to all of AEW. Omega may fear for an unprovoked attack from Goldberg outside the ring, but he knows that in the ring, Goldberg is no match for The Cleaner.
Goldberg comes out to the stage and the three members of the Elite hide behind the 20 security members. Goldberg smiles and says that if Omega is so confident, why has he been ducking Goldberg for the past four months? It’s beyond time for them to face off in a fair fight. But Goldberg knows that he needs to take care of the Young Bucks first. So he challenges Omega and the Bucks to a six-man tag team match at Dynasty. And if Goldberg’s team wins, he gets Omega in a one-on-one match and the Bucks are banned from the arena.
Omega asks who Goldberg’s teammates are. He tells them that they’ll find out in two weeks, then feints like he’s going to rush the ring, which makes Omega flinch behind security. Commercial break.
—
Match 1 - Sammy Guevara (25-7) w/ Tay Melo vs. Cedric Alexander (1-3) w/ Shelton Benjamin and Brian Cage
Guevara gets the win with a 630 Splash at 7 minutes, and is attacked immediately afterward by Cage and Benjamin. Cage hits the Drill Claw and sets up for another one when Melo comes in the ring. She pleads with Cage to lay off, and he obliges. But says that he’s tired of all the attention that Guevara is getting — he wants Guevara at Dynasty, where he’ll end Guevara’s little winning streak and send him truly to rock bottom.
—
UWA Universal Women’s champion Jade Cargill comes to the ring with the Universal Championship. She’s been undefeated for over two years now, and sits at 42-0. She’s not about to be scared of this newcomer b**** just because she’s tall. Cargill promises that a storm is coming for Isis, and the monster is going to get swept away.
—
Match 2 - Britt Baker (10-2) vs. Angelina Love (5-10) w/ The Beautiful People
Baker wins following a super kick at 6 minutes, then stares down TBS Champion Alexa Bliss.
—
Wrestling legend Mick Foley is out next. He thanks the AEW fans for welcoming him these last couple of years. He’s had some great matches here, and it’s given him a second wind. But, as with all good things, it’s time for his in-ring career to truly come to an end, fittingly later this year at World's End. Foley puts over Sammy Guevara, then says he’s got a list of guys he wants to share the ring with before he retires. And the name at the top of the list is Rob Van Dam: They’ve wrestled in the same companies over the years, but have never actually shared a ring. It’s time to change that.
—
Match 3 - DX vs. LAX
DX gets the win following a Road Dogg pumphandle slam on Homicide at 7 minutes.
—
Dustin Rhodes comes to the ring next, dressed as Goldust, but not acting as Goldust.
Dustin - “Cody, I know you’re at home watching this right now. And you’re thinking about how ridiculous I look, and how I supposedly have humiliated myself and the Rhodes family time and again over the years. But this face paint and this spandex suit aren’t humiliating. They made me a household name around the globe. My legacy isn’t that I’m the son of a legendary champion and promoter. I built my own damned name. You’re the one with Dream tattooed on your chest; you’re the one who perverted the American Dream into the American Nightmare; and you’re the one who’s making daddy roll over in his grave with the way you’re acting. It’s appropriate that we’re going to face off at Dynasty. Because the fate and future of the Rhodes Family Dynasty is on the line.”
—
Match 4 - Hook (22-6) vs. Hijo de la Park (2-8)
Hook wins with the REDRUM in 6 minutes.
—
Chad Gable delivers a backstage promo. He defeated Wheeler Yuta last week in his AEW debut, and he’s determined to be a champion in AEW.
—
Main Event - Gauntlet Match for a Women’s title opportunity - Kris Statlander vs. Tay Melo vs. Serena Deeb vs. Willow Nightingale vs. Paige VanZant vs. Beth Phoenix - presented without commercial breaks. AEW Women’s Champion Sasha Banks is on commentary.
- Nightingale and Deeb start out. Nightingale gets the pin after the Dangerous Babe Bomb in 7 minutes.
- Next out is former AEW Women’s Champion VanZant. Nightingale is able to beat her with a moonsault after 8 minutes.
- Tay Melo is out next. She gets a nearfall with a TayKO, but Nightingale kicks out and hits another Dangerous Babe Bomb to advance again, after another 6 minutes.
- Beth Phoenix is out next. She kicks out of a Babe Breaker, then hits a huge Glam Slam…but Nightingale kicks out! Phoenix hits another Glam Slam and finally eliminates Nightingale after 10 minutes.
- Phoenix vs. Statlander is last, but before she can get started, an angry Nightingale attacks Phoenix and hits two Dangerous Babe Bombs before Statlander tosses her from the ring. Statlander checks on Phoenix, but the ref tells her to get moving with the match. Statlander hits the Area 451 and gets the pinfall victory at about 1 minute. Total match time: 33 minutes.
Statlander celebrates after the match as Banks gets in the ring and extends her hand in congratulations as the show ends.
