AEW Dynamite
Feb. 28, 2024
The show starts with a brief highlight reel from Revolution, ending with Cody Rhodes kicking Sammy Guevara to draw the DQ and retain the AEW World Championship. He followed that up with a CrossRhodes and a couple of belt shots to Guevara’s head, and a CrossRhodes to Tay Melo, who tried to stop him, as the crowd showered him with boos.
The show starts with Cody Rhodes’ music hitting, and the crowd immediately erupting with jeers. After a longer than usual time, Brandi walks out by herself and stands on the stage.
Brandi - “After a grueling AEW World Championship match this past weekend, YOUR world champion and MY husband, Cody Rhodes, is recuperating and preparing for his next title defense, whenever that might be. Frankly, he didn’t think this crowd deserved an appearance from the champion. He’s saving it for next week’s Dynamite, in our hometown of Atlanta.” She turns and walks off.
—
Match 1 - Serena Deeb (10-10) vs. Willow Nightingale (9-8)
Deeb and Nightingale have a strong, competitive back-and-forth match, with Deeb trying to wear Nightingale down and Nightingale using her size to maintain the advantage. She gets the win with the Dangerous Babe Bomb at 13 minutes.
—
Malakai Black makes an entrance next. He’s wearing a black shirt and pants with a red tie. His entrance is noticeably different — no antlers, and his face is missing the black paint, though one eye is still white and the other black. He grabs a mic.
Black - “The last time I stood in this ring, Cody Rhodes proved to be the better man. He ultimately buried Malakai Black. That old person is dead and gone, and it’s time for a rebirth. The reincarnation of Malakai Black begins tonight. I am done with theatrics. I’m here only to kick ass, take names and win titles.”
—
Roman Reigns arrives at the arena, traveling alone. Taz approaches him to ask if he knows what the Tribal Council meeting is all about tonight, and if he knows who called it. Roman replies that they just need to regroup and move forward stronger than ever.
—
New AEW Women’s Champion Sasha Banks makes her entrance. She thanks the fans for backing her and she knew that she would make Ronda Rousey tap out. She looks forward to a lengthy reign as the top woman in yet another wrestling promotion.
This brings Rousey out. She says that Banks got lucky, and that won’t happen again. Banks says that she’s right — Rousey won’t be fighting for the championship any time soon. Rousey smiles and says that she’s already talked to JBL, who agreed to give her a rematch in Banks’ own hometown of Boston for St. Patrick’s Day Slam in 2 weeks!
—
Match 2 - The Young Bucks (6-4) vs. The Acclaimed (10-8)
The Bucks and the Acclaimed have a high-flying, fast-paced match. The Bucks get the win after a BTE Trigger and Meltzer Effect, with Nick Jackson pinning Max Caster after 15 minutes.
—
A brief recap of the Owen Hart Cup, including champions Britt Baker and Wardlow, with a promo that they will receive their trophies this week on Collision.
—
The Usos and Solo Sikoa arrive at the arena together. Taz asks them what’s happening during the Tribal Council tonight, and if the Bloodline is fracturing.
Jey - “The elders are disappointed that the Bloodline has yet to capture gold in AEW. We’ve got to regroup tonight. We’ve got each others’ backs, and we’ve got Roman’s back.”
—
We see a segment from Tuesday Night’s “Inside the NBA” on TNT featuring new TNT Champion Dean Malenko and Jake Hager. They’re having fun with Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, Ernie Johnson and Kenny Smith. Malenko puts Johnson in the Texas Cloverleaf, then tries showing Shaq how to do it, but Shaq just says he wants to chokeslam a fool. Malenko offers to help him with that sometime and poses for a photo with Shaq holding the title.
—
Match 3 - Kevin Nash (4-2) vs. Tony Nese (0-0)
Nash quickly dominates Nese, winning with a Jackknife Powerbomb in 2 minutes.
—
Kenny Omega comes out to the ring alongside The Young Bucks. He’s got a big smile on his face.
Omega - “At AEW Revolution, the stakes were higher than the Himalayas, and guess what? I climbed those mountains, planted my flag, and left Roman Reigns and Bill Goldberg buried in the snow! Roman, you can keep your yard. I’ve got the whole wrestling universe as my playground. And Goldberg, your Jackhammer? Cute. But I’ve faced monsters scarier than you in the dark alleys of Osaka. You’re like a relic from the past, and I’m the future.”
Goldberg’s music hits and Omega positions himself behind The Young Bucks. Goldberg stops on the stage.
Goldberg - “Congratulations on your win, big guy. It took a lot of guts for you to slink around the ring, waiting for an opportunity to pounce on my prey and grab the win. At the end of the day, that pinfall is really what matters. But I also think it matters as to who took the pinfall. And, if I recall correctly, that man wasn’t Bill Goldberg. So before you go around proclaiming yourself as the top dog in this company, we’ve still got a little unfinished business. I know you were the one behind the wheel of the car that ran me over, even if I can’t prove it. I won’t stop until we face off, one-on-one. You can hide behind your cronies all you want, but Kenny Omega: You’re Next!” Goldberg walks off with a smile as Omega and the Bucks chat in the ring.
—
The Usos, Sikoa and Reigns all meet backstage. They give each other hugs and fist bumps. Jey assures Reigns they’ve got his back.
—
Main Event - Malakai Black (13-7) vs. Ethan Page
Page is making a one-time return appearance to AEW after an earlier tag team run. He pushes a returning Black to the limit for nearly 20 minutes, but Black prevails with the Black Mass.
—
Final segment -
The Bloodline’s music hits, and the four members walk down to the ring. Both Reigns and Jey Uso grab mics.
Reigns - “For the past three years, The Bloodline has reigned supreme around the wrestling world. Led by me, the top dog; the Tribal Chief; the Head of the Table. I won’t recap our exploits elsewhere, but since coming to AEW, we’ve cleansed the company of The Apex, and we’re working on disbanding the Elite. So, tell me, Jey, why we are out here for a Tribal Council meeting that I didn’t call.”
Jey - “I told you on Saturday - I didn’t call this meeting. Someone else did.” Reigns looks quizzically at him for a moment as music hits and two members of the Samoan family dynasty walk out.
Coach (on commentary): “That’s Rikishi Fatu! The father of the Usos and Solo Sikoa! And…he’s joined by former longtime MLW Champion, Jacob Fatu, Rikishi’s nephew that he trained. Are…are they All Elite? What’s going on here!?”
While Rikishi and Jacob are walking to the ring, Roman looks toward them. Suddenly, The Usos hit Roman with double superkicks! Before he falls to the mat, Sikoa grabs hold of him and hits the Samoan Spike!
By this time, Rikishi and Jacob reach the ring. Sikoa picks Roman up, so the Usos can hit a 1D on him. Jacob heads to the corner and hops up to the top rope, hitting a Mighty Moonsault on Roman. They drag Roman to the corner and lay his head on the bottom turnbuckle. Jacob lines up across the ring and rushes toward Roman, turning and driving his rear end into Roman, who is laying lifeless in the ring.
The five men huddle in the middle of the ring briefly, then turn to face the camera. They raise their fists in the air as Coach continues to ask what this means, and Pat McAfee says they’re out of time — we’ll have to wait until next week to hear from Rikishi, Jacob and the rest of the Bloodline.
