WCW Monday Nitro episode 47 for 12.11.23
Live from the Adelaide Arena in Adelaide, Australia
Commentary: Gorilla Monsoon and Wade Barrett
Ring Announcer: Gary Michael Cappetta
Interviewer: SoCal Val
Referees: Tommy Young, Joey Marella and Charles Robinson
Perfectly Wonderful (Paul Orndorff and Curt Hennig) with Col. Robert Fuller retain the WCW World Tag Team Titles over the Rock ‘n Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) by pinfall of Hennig on Gibson via PerfectPlex at 13:43. After the match, Fuller gets a microphone and reiterates what he’s been saying of Perfectly Wonderful being the greatest WCW tag team champions ever and the best team he’s ever managed.
“Tell me you just didn’t say that?” Harlem Heat of Booker T and Stevie Ray come out. They remind the fans how Fuller managed them when they started out in WCW the first time. They got rid of him, he didn’t ditch them. Because they realized he was nothing but a jive ass turkey. Harlem Heat is the greatest tag team ever in WCW, ever in the UWA and that Fuller ever managed. And if he doesn’t believe that, there’s only way to prove it at Starrcade International. Perfectly Wonderful can put those belts on the line against Harlem Heat, sucka!

Shane McMahon in the back says it would be a waste to have Booker T in the house and not have him wrestle, so tonight’s main event will be Steve Austin vs. Booker T, non-title. Also, instead of a coin flip to decide the Wargames advantage, there will be a match with the winner getting the advantage for his team. It will be between the designated first entrants, Harry Smith for the Hart Foundation and Mike Bennett for the nWo.

“Lionheart” Chris Jericho defeated Charlie Dempsey by pinfall via Judas Effect at 5:43. Magnum TA watched from the entrance stage and walked off after the win, not impressed. Commentary reminds how Jericho and Magnum are to stay away from each other until Starrcade International.

SoCal Val has Jake “The Snake” Roberts on the interview stage. “Brian Pillman, I’ve been teaching you not only lessons about the great sport of professional wrestling the past few weeks, but also lessons about life. And before I tell you lesson four, I challenge you to another singles match at Starrcade International. Just me, you and the DDT inside that ring. Because what DDT really stands for is E-N-D. No Black Mamba or Copperhead coming out. Nobody threatening or hurting your son or the Armstrong boys. Trust me on that, you can do that can’t you. I know what you’re thinking right now, what is Jake up to? What’s his trick? What’s his scheme? What’s his strategy here? And that brings me to lesson four, my man. Don’t worry about what the other guy is doing or not doing. Worry about what you’re doing or not doing.”

Magnum TA defeated Thom Latimer by pinfall via belly to belly suplex at 5:40. Magnum gets a microphone post match and tells everybody he was three seconds better than Jericho getting the win tonight and he’ll be a three count better than Jericho at Starrcade International.

Dusty Rhodes is with SoCal Val on the interview stage holding his bull rope with a cowbell on it. “Steve Austin, you and me are on a collision course, baby. And the location of that head-on collision will be in Sydney, Australia, and the time will be Christmas Eve, daddy. And even though we’re here, every single Texican back home will be watching on pay-per-view, daddy. Every man, woman, child, cat, dog and steer in the Lone Star State will be watching the confrontation between the American Dream and the Stone Cold Stunner, baby. And they will all be cheering when Big Dust has his hand raised at the end and has that WCW World Heavyweight Title around his waist.”

“The Universal Heartthrob” Austin Idol defeated “The Model” Rick Martel with Asuka by pinfall via second rope diving elbow drop at 9:49. Idol makes the ropes to break a Boston Crab. Asuka comes over to choke him out on the bottom rope, but Idol kisses her and she swoons. Martel is outrage and goes after Idol, who cuts him off with a series of European uppercuts and then a facebreaker to the knee, leading to the finish.

Bret Hart is in the back hyping Harry Smith up for his match with Mike Bennett. Hulk Hogan then comes up, calls Harry “Larry” and tells him that Ben Michaels is a chump. Does he mean Mike Bennett? Yeah, him too. Hart tells Hogan he’s got this. He appreciates Hogan wanting to help the Hart Foundation, but Hogan is still in forced retirement and the HF can handle the nWo themselves. Hart is trying to be nice, but you can tell he’s frustrated with Hogan always swooping. Hogan talks about how the pink and black is superior to the white and black and he knows the nWo’s days are numbered.

Mickie James defeated Natayla Neidhart at 8:20. James gets the three count with an O’Connor Roll and a handful of tights. However, Madusa Micelli runs out and rats out James for cheating to the referee. James gets in her face, but turns around into a discus clothesline from Nattie. She locks James in a Sharpshooter until the referee breaks it off. Madusa raises Natalya’s hand as the real winner.

L.A. Knight is in the back talking to Mike Bennett about how Harry Smith is the weak link of the Hart Foundation and that’s why he’s going into the cage first, so Bennett should have no trouble beating him tonight. Wait, Bennett is going in first for the nWo? Does that mean Knight thinks he’s the weak link? Let’s not talk about that now. Everyone has their part to play and Bennet’s tonight is beating Harry Smith.

The Powers of Pain (Barbarian and Warlord) with “Number One” Paul Jones retain the WCW U.S. Tag Team Titles over Chiseled and Grizzled (Ronnie Garvin and Sam Houston) by pinfall of Barbarian on Houston at 8:21. Houston has his bulldog out of the corner lined up on Warlord, but Jones jumps on the apron. This distracts the referee and Barbarian nails Houston in the back with Jones’ cane. Warlord with a side slam and Barbarian tags in for a falling head butt from the second turnbuckle for the win.
Garvin takes Jones off the apron and roughs him up. One Man Gang comes out to save his manager and nails Garvin in the back. He clubs him on the outside. They throw Garvin in the ring and the Powers of Pain hold him and make him watch OMG splash Houston three times until security runs out. The heels leave and Garvin is left cradling Houston and calling for help.

“The Miracle” Mike Bennett with Maria Kanellis-Bennett defeated Harry Smith by pinfall via Box Office Smash at 9:10. Maria gets up on the apron, but Smith reverses a whip and sends Bennett into her. She falls to the floor, but drops the hair spray can from her purse in the ring. The nWo run out with the Hart Foundation hot on their heels. This distraction allows Bennett to knock Smith in the head with the hair spray can and hits his finisher for good measure. The nWo has the WarGames advantage.

SoCal Val has Charlotte Flair on the entrance stage. She admits Wendi Richter is a thorn in her side. She admits she’s lost twice to Richter and she’s the reason Flair is not the WCW Women’s Champion. Tessa Blanchard, Kamille Kaine, Taya Valkyrie; none of them have challenged her the way Richter has. And the reason is simple, Flair thought Richter was a joke. She comes out dressed like a Jane Fonda workout tape reject with hair shellacked in Aqua Net and the screeching Cyndi Lauper fronting for her. Flair didn’t take Richter seriously and that was her mistake. She’s not making that mistake again.

“Stunning” Steve Austin with Col. Robert Fuller defeated Booker by count out at 12:11. Austin throws Booker to the floor and distracts the referee. Hennig and Orndorff run out and attack Booker T, leading to the count out. Stevie Ray comes out and fights the heels. They have the numbers advantage until Dusty Rhodes runs out with the bull rope and starts whipping it at the heels. The faces have the ring and the heels are halfway up the aisle. Shane McMahon comes out and books next week’s main event for Nitro. The Stud Stable vs. Rhodes and Harlem Heat.
