Bret Hart is on the interview stage with SoCal Val. He heard what Hulk Hogan said on Thunder. He didn’t screw Bret and Bret didn’t screw himself, but it looks like a McMahon screwed him once again. Shane McMahon comes out and Bret tells him to hold up. There’s one way Shane can make this right and it’s to give Hart what he wants at Capital Combat. He wants L.A. Knight with the WCW Wild Card Title on the line without any referees or seconds to get in the way and every member of the nWo and Hart Foundation banned from ringside. He wants a ladder match. Shane is like ‘That’s all? You got it.”
Knight comes out to protest telling McMahon that he shouldn’t let Bret dictate terms to him. He’s not, it’s a great match idea and he’s going with it. You know what is also a great idea? L.A. Knight in a non-title match tonight against Owen Hart.

Rick Martel and Asuka are in the ring. They’re matching in sunglasses, berets and scarves. Asuka has the Arrogance atomizer. Martel challenges any man and woman in the back to come out and face them, the new queen and king of WCW.
Out comes Kamille Kaine and her real life husband, Thom Latimer. Martel says Latimer doesn’t work for WCW, because he’s not good enough. Kaine reminds Martel said anybody in the back and he was in the back visiting her and a good wrestler always has his gear with him. What are they chicken? The fans make chicken noises and Asuka grabs the microphone from Martel saying “We no chickens! We no chickens!”
Thom Latimer and Kamille Kaine defeated Rick Martel and Asuka by disqualification at 8:34. Latimer had Martel in his own Boston Crab and Asuka ran in and decked him with the atomizer for the DQ. Kaine then speared Asuka and the heels were left laid out.

L.A. Knight runs into Steve Austin in the back. He thought they had a deal and now the Stud Stable and nWo both have a guy going after Nick Aldis and the U.S. Title with a title shot on the line tonight between Mike Bennett and Bobby Roode. Knight tells Austin he’s got too much going on with having to face Owen Hart tonight and his ladder match with Bret at Capital Combat. So, why don’t they just let the chips fall where they may with the match tonight and no matter which side wins, no hard feelings. Austin guesses he can live with that. McMahon then strolls by and tells Austin he has a non-title match tonight against..oh, let’s say, “Big Cat” Ernie Ladd. Austin isn’t happy about that.

“American Dream” Dusty Rhodes comes out with a microphone in hand and reminds Austin that Rhodes beat Austin last week in a tag team match. Austin said wins in tag team matches don’t count, that’s about as good as a tie and a tie is like kissing your sister, which Austin is sure Dusty’s redneck ass knows all about. If Austin is any kind of real man at all he’ll put the WCW World Heavyweight Title on the line against Rhodes at Capital Combat. The American Dream can keep dreaming. But, McMahon comes out and makes the match.

The Rock ‘n Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) successfully defended the WCW U.S. Tag Team Titles against the Blue Bloods (William Regal and David Taylor) by pinfall of Gibson on Taylor by stereo dropkicks at 8:45. Charlie Dempsey came out during the match and Regal hopped off the apron to confront him on the floor. Dempsey won’t leave. After Taylor loses and Regal misses the chance to make the save he’s finally had enough and lays out Dempsey with the power of the punch.

SoCal Val has Wendi Richter and Cyndi Lauper on the interview stage. They don’t get too far until Richter’s opponent at Capital Combat comes out, Rheal Ripley. Ripley tells them they’re 1980’s reject act is making a mockery of the WCW Women’s Title and she’ll return it to prominence once winning it at Capital Combat. Lauper tells the Hot Topic rejects that she should be talking. Ripley blindsides Richter and throws her off the interview stage to the floor. Lauper pounds on Ripley to no avail and Ripley smacks her around and delivers the Riptide onto the interview stage. She leaves and Richter recovers to carry Lauper out.

L.A. Knight defeated Owen Hart by pinfall via Gravy Train at 14:44. Knight fakes an ankle injury on the floor and while the referee is checking on him, Will Hobbs runs in and nails Owen with his rotating spinebuster. Bret Hart runs out to chase Hobbs off, but it’s too late and suddenly Knight’s ankle is fine and he gets the victory.

Brian Pillman Sr. complains to Shane McMahon about the Blue Bloods getting a U.S. Title match out of nowhere, when Pillman beat Ricky Morton in a singles match last week. Yeah, but he and Brian Jr. lost the U.S. Title match at Halloween Havoc. That wasn’t him, that was his son. Okay, so, does Pillman Sr. want a new tag partner? He’s taken aback by that and says he doesn’t know and kind of wanders off confused and pondering.

“Glorious” Bobby Roode with Col. Robert Fuller vs. “The Miracle” Mike Bennett with Maria Kannelis-Bennett goes to a 15 minute time limit draw. The two men want to keep going, but the managers try to keep the peace between the two factions. Fuller grabs a microphone and since neither man loss, that means both men must be the winner and therefore it should be a triple threat for the U.S. Title at Capital Combat. Maria is cool with that.

In the back, Madusa Micelli finds Mickie James and tells her Madusa doesn’t really have anything against her. She’s got issue with Fuller and the Stud Stable kicking her to curb for somebody else. It’s just so happens she’s the unlucky bitch that got the slot. James puffs up her chest and looks like she’s going to say something, but then runs off and hides in the Stud Stable locker room.

Kurt Angle is still wandering in the desert, but then just sits down in the sand and yells to the sky that he’s not walking anymore. The Warrior can come get him whenever he wants, but he’s not walking anymore. The disembodied voice of the Warrior tells Angle “you have passed the tests of the Warrior gods. Because to stop is to move forward. Because sitting down is to stand up. Because to say no more is to say everything.” Angle looks even more confused than ever.

Tessa Blanchard and Thunder Rosa defeated Rhea Ripley/Lady Frost and Charlotte Flair by pinfall of Rosa on Frost via Thunder Fire Driver at 17:34. Richter runs out and attacks Ripley to take her off the apron. Lady Frost then runs out to replace her. A disgruntled Flair tags out and then takes a walk. Frost holds her own for a bit, but ultimately succumbs to the face team.
