WCW Monday Nitro episode 41 for 10.23.23
Live from the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island
Commentary: Gorilla Monsoon and Wade Barrett
Ring Announcer: Gary Michael Cappetta
Interviewer: SoCal Val
Referees: Tommy Young, Joey Marella and Molly Holly
Harts Afire (Bruce and Keith Hart) vs. the Southern Boys (Steve Armstrong and Tracy Smothers) is interrupted a couple minutes in by the nWo running out and taking out both teams. Shane McMahon comes out with security charging to the ring. L.A. Knight has a microphone and tells McMahon to hold his boys up. He’ll offer McMahon a bet. If his guard dog Steve Blackman can beat him right now in this ring, the nWo will leave. If Blackman loses, then the nWo gets to run the rest of Nitro. If McMahon doesn’t take the deal, then Knight will do his damndest to make sure there’s no show of any type tonight. Blackman begs McMahon to let him take out Knight, so McMahon agrees, because any ratings are better than no ratings.
L.A. Knight defeated “Lethal Weapon” Steve Blackman by pinfall at 10:02. Knight moves out of the way of the bicycle kick, hits the Bottom Rung and finishes with the Gravy Train.
Knight says Blackman gave him a better match than he thought, but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. He tells McMahon and security to beat it to the back. It’s now nWo Nitro. He does tell Tamina Snuka to hold on, because he’s got a gold opportunity for her.

L.A. Knight joins commentary and gives Wade Barrett the night off.
Taya Valkyrie defended the WCW U.S. Women’s Championship against Tamina Snuka by pinfall via Road to Valhalla at 6:05. Monsoon finds it surprising the nWo isn’t cheating their brains out. Knight says this version of the nWo is so good, they don’t need to and that’s just a fact of life.
Knight then calls out Harry Smith to face the newest member of the nWo from the challenge he made on the last Thunder. Smith comes out and Knight says the newest member of the nWo…will be announced right after a word from our sponsors.

“Powerhouse” Will Hobbs defeated Harry Smith by rotation spinebuster at 7:11. Knight puts Hobbs over as the new powerhouse of the nWo.
Hobbs does a post match beat down, which draws out Owen Hart and Jim Neidhart. Knight calls off any brawling and books a match right now between the New Foundation and Mike Bennett and Killer Kross.
New Foundation (Owen Hart and Jim Neidhart) vs. Mike Bennett and Killer Kross ends in a no contest at 5:00 when everybody is brawling and the referee can’t get control and throws the bout out.
Bret Hart then appears at the entrance stage and Knight said this feels like a great time for a commercial.

Bret Hart and L.A. Knight are in the ring together. Bret said he was checking on his brothers in the back earlier and how the other members of the Hart Foundation can stand on their own without him, but it’s obvious Knight is gunning for the Hitman and the WCW Wild Card Title. Knight tells Bret not to flatter himself, but he’s happy to take that belt off of him at Halloween Havoc. And let’s go old school with the stipulation and make it inside an electrified steel cage.
Hart agrees but let’s do one better and make it a designated terminator match. They go until their second on the outside throws the towel in on their behalf, like at Halloween Havoc 1989. Knight chooses Maria Kannellis-Bennett, the first woman of the nWo. Knight teases Bret about choosing one of his dead beat brothers or his no-good niece Natayla Neidhart. Bret introduces Hulk Hogan.
“Let me tell you something, brother. There is no love loss between me and the Hitman, dude, but there is respect. That’s not something that exists between Drake Knight or whatever you’re calling yourself these days, brother. What you want in a match like this, jack, is someone who totally will not under any circumstances throw the towel in. And as much as I’m okay with Bret Hart being beaten and bloodied, brother, I want to see you in agony even more.”
Knight goes to say something, but jumps Hogan. The rest of the nWo join in, but Hart and Hogan manage to drive them off and hold the ring. Knight screams for the show to go to commercial.

Back from break, the ring is cleared and Knight yells about getting some pretty women out here, yeah.
The All-New All-Sister Squadron (Amber Nova, Nikkita Lyons and Gigi Dolin) defeated Kamille Kaine, Tessa Blanchard and Roxanne Perez at 9:03 via pinfall of Lyons on Perez after a triple team flying butt drop. Lady Frost came through the crowd and took Kaine off the apron. Blanchard went to help and Rhea Ripley ran out to attack her, leaving Perez alone.
Knight asks for Col. Robert Fuller to come out. He does so, but seems scared. Knight said one reason the old nWo failed is because it didn’t play well with others. He realizes the importance of getting along with the Stud Stable and he’s going to allow the two matches announced last week for tonight go on - Steve Austin vs. Sam Houston and Nick Aldis vs. Paul Orndorff. In fact, the nWo has made the point they needed too and Fuller can have the rest of Nitro. Fuller goes to commentary and the nWo exit.

“Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig defeated “Latino Heat” Eddie Guerrero by pinfall at 14:21. Copperhead (Odyssey Jones), Jake Roberts’ new man, walks to distract Guerrero and Hennig gets a rollup from behind with a handful of tights.
After the match, Guerrero does a suicide dive out onto Copperhead and they brawl off.

“National Treasure” Nick Aldis retains the WCW U.S. Title over “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff at 13:39. Aldis lines up the Treasure Chest, but Fuller grabs the U.S. Title from ringside and jumps up on the apron with it. The WCW Phantom runs out with his lead pipe, but Dusty Rhodes is right there on his rear again and keeps him from interfering. The referee is distracted by this and Fuller uses that to try and nail Aldis with the title belt, but he ducks and Fuller nails Orndorff. Aldis knocks Fuller from the apron and wins with the Macho Man flying elbow smash.
Dusty Rhodes then joins the commentary table as the Stud Stable leave.

“Stunning” Steve Austin retained the WCW World Heavyweight Title over “Grizzled” Sam Houston by pinfall at 10:50. Houston gives Austin a much more competitive match than he anticipated. Houston hits his bulldog and it almost gets the victory. Houston with a scoop slam off the ropes and a snap suplex. He tries for a second rope bulldog, but Austin blocks, takes Houston off the turnbuckle and spins him around into a modified Stun Gun. Kick, wham, Stunner for the victory.
