AEW Grand Slam
Dynamite - Sept. 27, 2023
Intro - Dynamite starts off with a recap of the build to Grand Slam, focusing on Cactus Jack eliminating Sammy Guevara from the Casino Battle Royale at All Out, only for Guevara to re-enter and eliminate him. Guevara and Jack have been on a collision course for weeks, and Guevara will defend his TNT Championship tonight.
We also see Cody Rhodes’ AEW World Championship victory over Goldberg, as well as Dustin Rhodes winning the battle royal to set up the Rhodes Brothers’ bout tonight. The brothers have a lot of respect for each other, with both promising to do everything in their power to walk out as AEW Champion tonight.
Pat McAfee and Coach run down the rest of tonight’s card as well — Britt Baker tries for revenge on Tay Melo, who defeated Baker in the TBS Title Tournament, then Melo blamed Baker for ultimately losing to Sasha Banks; Diesel and Razor Ramon will defend the tag titles against the Chosen Bros tonight; and Miro has earned another match against Dean Malenko, who has been a thorn in Miro and Shamrock’s sides for the past couple of months.
Match 1 - TNT Championship - Sammy Guevara © (20-7) w/ Tay Melo vs. Cactus Jack (7-3)
Mick Foley comes out in his Cactus Jack persona and gets aggressive with Guevara, who constantly tries to keep away from Jack. Eventually, Guevaras hits a springboard dropkick and knocks Jack down. He pounces on Jack and locks in a sleeper hold, until the bigger man gets up and knocks Guevara back.
Jack controls much of the middle portion of the match, which turns into a bit of a brawl — Jack gets off a “Bang! Bang!” taunt that pumps the crowd up. He clotheslines Guevara to the floor and whips him into the steel stairs. Jack hits a piledriver on the floor, then rolls in the ring to break the count. He gets ready to jump onto Guevara from the apron, but Melo gets in front of Guevara, and Jack won’t jump on her.
Guevara gets back in the ring and rakes Jack’s eyes before chopping him down with kicks to the knees and a spinning heel kick. Guevara hits a flying elbow and gets a 2-count. Jack works his way back up and hits the Double arm DDT! He goes for the pinfall, but Melo is distracting the ref. While that happens, the two competitors get back to their feet and Guevara pulls the Dynamite Diamond Ring out of his trunks. He clocks Jack with it, then hits a standing shooting star press as the ref turns back around. Guevara gets the win and retains his championship at 13:59.
After the match, Melo and Guevara celebrate briefly until Britt Baker’s music hits and she comes out for her match with Melo. Baker goes straight for Melo, as the ref banishes Guevara to the back from the beginning.
Match 2 - Tay Melo (15-5) vs. Britt Baker (4-2)
The two women brawl to start the match, with each exchanging blows, and you can tell they don’t like each other. Melo gets in a trio of kicks and then tackles Baker to the mat, where she locks in a kimura lock. Baker is able to get to the ropes.
Melo goes for a clothesline that Baker ducks, then hits a Pele kick, knocking Melo to the ground. Baker whips Melo into the corner, where she “stomps a mudhole” into her for loud cheers. Baker drags her away and hits a Fisherman’s Neckbreaker for a one count.
Melo rolls Baker up for a quick 2-count, then wears Baker down with more strikes and kicks. Melo goes for the Tay-KO, but Baker dodges and dropkicks Melo’s knee, getting Melo to the mat again. Baker wastes no time and hits a brutal Stomp to get the victory at 9:18.

Riddle fights back with a devastating roundhouse kick that sends Razor reeling. The challengers regain control, with Cobb coming back into the match. They isolate Razor Ramon in their corner with quick tags and a series of power moves.
Riddle tags in and looks to finish it with the Bro Derek, but Diesel intervenes, sending Riddle crashing to the mat with a big boot! Chaos in the ring as both teams brawl! The referee tries to restore order. Razor Ramon and Diesel capitalize on the confusion, executing a Double Chokeslam on Riddle! Razor covers Riddle, and Diesel blocks Cobb from interfering. 1…2…3! Ramon and Diesel retain the belts after a 16-minute match.
The champions celebrate as they head to the back, while Riddle and Cobb remain in the ring, where Riddle tries to console Cobb, who shoves him off. Riddle asks Cobb what his problem is, and Cobb just points at him and shouts “You!” Riddle rushes toward Cobb, who catches him in the Tour of the Islands! Cobb spits at Riddle, who is laying in the middle of the ring, then walks off to the back as the crowd looks on, stunned.

Match 4 - Dean Malenko (10-13) vs. Miro (3-1)
Miro overpowers Malenko, much like their earlier match, but Malenko is craftier than when they faced off before, and he uses his veteran knowledge to continually frustrate the bigger man.
Malenko works on Miro’s legs with a variety of holds, trying to keep the bigger man grounded. Miro kicks Malenko away, then tackles him to the mat and locks in a grapevine. They exchange holds, turning their match into an amateur-style match, with Malenko sticking close enough to the ropes to consistently break holds.
After a few minutes of mat wrestling, both men are standing in the middle of the ring, and Malenko slaps Miro in the face. This enrages The Redeemer, who spears Malenko to the mat and starts wailing on him as Malenko grabs the ropes. The referee counts to 5 and tells Miro to back off, and when he does, he accidentally knocks the ref down and through the ropes to the floor. Miro snaps out of his rage briefly and goes out to check on the ref.
Malenko rolls out of the ring and crawls under it…A bigger man crawls out, wearing all black and a black mask. The man comes up behind Miro and kicks him brutally in the back of the head. He rolls Miro in the ring, where he hits a brainbuster before leaving quickly. Malenko rouses the ref on the outside of the ring. They get in the ring and Malenko covers Miro for the pinfall at 15 minutes. Malenko celebrates like he won the championship.
