WCW Monday Nitro episode 40 for 10.16.23
Live from the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, New York
Commentary: Gorilla Monsoon and Wade Barrett
Ring Announcer: Gary Michael Cappetta
Interviewer: SoCal Val
Referees: Tommy Young, Joey Marella and Molly Holly
The show opens with a six person tag match of the Hart Foundation (Owen Hart, Jim Neidhart and Natalya Neidhart) against The Southern Boys (Scott Armstrong and Tracy Smothers) and Amber Nova. After a few seconds of action, the screen kind of flickers and gets fuzzy and then it goes to a black and white image of Eli Drake standing in a ring in what looks like a warehouse.
“Let me talk at ya. I’ll let WCW go on with the show tonight, but first we’re going to have some quality nWo time. Everybody is stopping me in the street and asking why did I betray Hulk Hogan at Fall Brawl? Why did I attack Hulk Hogan during his retirement speech? Why did I try to spraypaint nWo on his back? Why? Because he deserved it, brother. Hulk Hogan only cares about Hulk Hogan and Eli Drake only cares about Eli Drake.”
“You know what, scratch that. Hollywood Hogan isn’t the only one with Southern California connections and I am the knight in shining armor the nWo, WCW and all of professional wrestling has yearned for. From now on, just call me L.A. Knight.”
“So, L.A. Knight cares about L.A. Knight and when I asked Mike Bennett, Maria, Taya Valkyrie and Killer Kross who they’d rather follow to the promised land, they picked me over Hasbeen Hogan. But, one guy didn’t and that’s who I’m going to take care of right now. Brutus the Zodiac Booty Disciple.”
The Disciple gets in the ring. “The Hulkster and I have been down the road and back again more times than I can count. And I’m not going to let you destroy everything he’s built in his career.”
“Save the drama for your mama, Butcher Booty with No Face. Aubrey gets in here.” Aubrey Edwards appears wearing an nWo shirt to serve as referee and that mystery is solved.
A bell rings and Disciple charges right into a kick to the balls to double him over. Double underhook facebuster to the knee. Swinging neckbreaker. Knight slings Disciple into the ropes and hits him with the big boot and leg drop. Edwards with a fast count. Disciple gets up, but takes another kick to the balls, eats a Gravy Train and is pitched into a trash dumpster outside the ring. Edwards jumps in Knight’s arms and starts kissing on him. He turns it into a powerbomb and then tosses her in the trash.
“I can’t believe you were a dumb enough b*tch to fall for it twice. Back in the Continental Championship Wrestling days I faked a relationship with you to help me win matches and I started it again to get you to screw over Hulk Hogan and end his career. Getting the U.S. Women’s Title Belt for Taya Valkyrie was just gravy, yeah. But, babe, you got sniffed out a lot quicker this time and I’ve got no use for you anymore. And that is just a fact of life.”
We go back to the regularly scheduled program to find the Hart Foundation winning via Hart Attack clothesline of Owen pinning Armstrong.

Back from the break, Gorilla Monsoon and Wade Barrett on commentary talk about how they learned what happened during the opening match, something they were unaware of in the arena. The production people are trying to figure out what happened and make sure it doesn’t happen again.
---------
Asuka defeated Roxanne Perez by submission via Asuka Lock at 6:17.
---------
We go to the entrance stage where the Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal wheel is setup. SoCal Val has Charlotte Flair and Wendi Richter with Cyndi Lauper. Matches on the wheel are Cyndi Lauper in a shark cage, ladder, TLC, double tables, Princess of Darkness, coal miner’s glove, steel cage, last woman standing, I quit and Boston street fight. It comes up Boston street fight for Halloween Havoc at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. Flair seems pleased with the outcome, scowls at Richter and walks off. Lauper says she knows a lot about a street fight growing up on the mean streets of New York City and Richter is from the mean streets of Dallas, Texas. But Charlotte grew up with a silver spoon in her mouth and lounging on a plush couch in the mansion her daddy’s money bought. She’s never had to deal with nothing tougher than a hangnail.

Asuka is walking through the back after her win and is stopped by Rick Martel. He likes what he sees. Asuka talks to him in Japanese. He doesn’t have to understand what she’s saying, because her body is saying all he needs to know. Come see me later tonight and Asuka doesn’t seem opposed to the idea.
----------
Magnum TA defeated Ron “The Truth” Killings by pinfall via belly to belly suplex at 5:50. Post match, Magnum tells Chris Jericho that he’s going to be ready for him come Halloween Havoc. He didn’t whine and cry to get the match, he proved himself in this WCW ring. Something Jericho hasn’t done in a long damn time. We all know that Jericho likes to talk, but let’s see if he still remembers how to wrestle.

Jake “The Snake” Roberts and Black Mamba (Omos) are in the ring and challenge the Eliminators to come out for a tag match right now. Footage is played of them debuting last week with Eddie Guerrero to trick Roberts and Mamba into a handicapped match.
The Eliminators come out and Roberts says the match isn’t against him and Mamba, but Mamba and the new snake in their pit, Copperhead (Odyssey Jones in a copper snake looking mask).
The Snake Pit (Copperhead and Black Mamba) defeated the Eliminators (John Kronos and Perry Saturn) by pinfall of Copperhead on Kronos at 7:23. Mamba hits a chokeslam and Copperhead gets a second rope falling headbutt. Roberts pulled Saturn off the apron and that distraction allowed a cheap shot on Kronos in the ring to setup the finish.
Eddie Guerrero then runs out and goes after Jake Roberts. He runs into the ring and Guerrero is caught and given a chokeslam by Mamba. Roberts talks crap to the camera as we fade to break.

Brian Pillman Sr. and Ricky Morton wrestle to a 15 minute time limit draw. Morton offers a handshake after, but Pillman just waves him off and walks away frustrated. Commentary theorizes he’s not mad at Morton, he’s mad at himself for not getting the win in the time frame.
----------
Shane McMahon is in the back with Kurt Angle. He chastises him for not being at Nitro last week and showing up just now for the program this week. Angle says nobody has seen the Ultimate Warrior since Fall Brawl when he disappeared after their match and Angle knows the Warrior is after him with his crazy Warrior powers. McMahon scoffs and tells Angle to get down to the ring for a match. He promises a nice, safe, totally non-weird opponent.

Kurt Angle loses by count out to the Boogeyman as he runs for the hills as soon as Boogeyman hits the ring, smashes a clock over his head and then eats a handful of worms.
----------
Hulk Hogan talks with Bret Hart in the back and thanks him for his help last week. Hart and Hogan had their problems, but that was between them in the ring. And Hogan did the right thing in adhering to the stipulation of the match, despite what L.A. Knight did. The big screen television near them flickers to life and L.A. Knight appears to tap the inside of the screen with a thump to get their attention.
“Let me talk at ya. This sad sack old fogey society meeting would have tears in my eyes if I could cry, yeah. You two dummies deserve each other as much as the nWo deserves me as its new leader, yeah. Hulkamania is dead via Knightfall and both of you better not be at Nitro next week if you know what’s good for you. The nWo will be back in the house, yeah, and we will burn it to the damn ground. That’s just a fact of life.”
The screen flickers off and Hogan says he didn’t realize what bad news Knight really was. Hart said just let the Hart Foundation take care of business. The nWo will try to establish themselves, but Hart won’t let them.

Kurt Angle is shown running through a back hall and looking behind him for the Boogeyman. However, the wall just beside him comes to life with fire and when it burns out, the Warrior’s mask emblem is burned into the wall. Angle runs away double time.
-----------
Kamille Kaine defeated Ember Moon by pinfall via spear at 4:24. As Kaine celebrates the victory, she’s jumped from behind by a woman from the crowd. She removes her big coat and hat to reveal former WCW Women’s Champion Lady Frost. Frost gets a microphone and talks about how she was fired for having an OnlyFans page and now Kaine is getting praised for her record breaking OnlyFans appearance. Frost wonders what Kaine is giving Shane McMahon under the table if you know what she means and she thinks you do. Security runs out and Frost drops the microphone and heads into the crowd.

Thunder Rosa is with SoCal Val on the interview stage. The nWo isn’t in the house tonight, but she has a message for Taya Valkyrie who stole the WCW U.S. Women’s Title from her at Fall Brawl thanks to the crooked officiating of Aubrey Edwards. She’s getting a rematch at Halloween Havoc. McMahon was even going to let her pick a special stipulation, but all Rosa wants is Valkyrie in the center of the ring in a standard match with a fair referee and she will reclaim the title.
---------
Ronnie Garvin defeated “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig with Col. Robert Fuller by pinfall via Superman Punch at 8:47. Fuller distracts the referee, allowing the Phantom to run out, but Dusty Rhodes chases from behind and lays him out with a lead pipe to the back. A distracted Hennig turns right around into the Superman Punch that leads to the upset victory.
Announced for next week is Nick Aldis vs. Paul Orndorff for the WCW U.S. Title Title and Steve Austin vs. Sam Houston for the WCW World Title.
