WCW Monday Nitro episode 36 for 09.04.23
Live from the Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington, Illinois
Commentary: Gorilla Monsoon and Wade Barrett
Ring Announcer: Gary Michael Cappetta
Interviewer: SoCal Val
Referees: Tommy Young, Joey Marella and Aubrey Edwards
The show opens with the Stud Stable in the ring and Col. Robert Fuller raising holy hell. He’s complaining about how Steve Austin was screwed at Great American Bash by a busted ring rope and he knows the fix was in. And even though Perfectly Wonderful claimed the tag team titles, Fuller is hearing the belts will be taken from them because they pinned Jim Neidhart when Owen Hart was the legal man. That’s incompetent refereeing, but he knows the fix is in again for that.
Shane McMahon comes out and tells Fuller to cool it. First, Steve Austin was screwed by the Elimination Chamber. Then he was screwed by a regular wrestling ring. So, let’s take the ring out of it. At Fall Brawl on Sept. 24 at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, it will be Randy Savage vs. Steve Austin for the WCW World Heavyweight Title in a fall count anywhere match. As for the tag team titles, if who is legal the problem there, let’s make everybody legal. Perfectly Wonderful will have a rematch against the former champs of the New Foundation in a tornado tag at Fall Brawl. As for tonight, the main event will be an eight man tag of the Stud Stable vs. the Hart Foundation.

Thunder Rosa and Wendi Richter defeated Charlotte Flair and Roxanne Perez by pinfall of Richter on Perez by True Colors DDT at 8:32.
After the match, Flair looks like she’s going to help Perez up, but nails the Natural Selection on her. Flair gets a microphone.
“I’ve got no friends and no allies, and I don’t want any and I don’t need any. The queen only has peasants and peons stacked about her feet like so much unneeded refuse. I don’t want to hear anything more about how I couldn’t beat Jade Cargill. I want to hear about how I’m the most dominant woman WCW has ever had and that won’t be changing anytime soon.

SoCal Val has Randy Savage on the interview stage. “A lot was going on at the top of the show, but all eyes still need to be right here on the Macho Man, uh-huh, yeah, because I’m still standing tall as the WCW World Heavyweight Champion, uh-huh, yeah. Austin wants to blame everything but himself for losing to the Macho Man. The elimination pod glass broke. The ring rope broke. Cry me a friggin’ river! In the record books it’s either a W or an L, there are no asterisks, uh-huh, yeah. Pinfalls count anywhere is fine by me. Maybe we’ll fight outside the arena, get on a bus and I’ll pin you across town in a Wendy’s parking lot. Maybe we’ll get on a plane and go to Spain. Maybe we’ll get on the SpaceX rocket and I’ll pin you on the freaking moon! Dig it!”

Hulk Hogan is in the ring. “At Great American Bash, brother, I changed the rules in the middle of the match, which I can do because I’m Hollywood Hogan, jack. But, Bret Hart, brother, he won by the old rules and that just don’t cut the ketchup, dude. I said I’d go all the way to the Supreme Court if I had to and I did. Right here, I have a proclamation from Chief Justice Buddy Jack Roberts saying I’m the rightful WCW World Heavyweight 24/7 7/11 Wild Card Champion, brother. I demand Bret Hart come out here right now and give me the belt, brother.”
Bret Hart comes out. “Hogan, you and that piece of paper in your hand both aren’t worth with a damn. Anytime I’ve been in the same locker room with you over the years, I’ve heard the same thing over and over again, ‘that doesn’t work for me, brother.’ You’ve always called the shots, but your way doesn’t work for me, brother. It’s painfully obvious one of us needs to go, not just out of WCW, but wrestling altogether. I’ll give you another shot at the Wild Card Title at Fall Brawl. In a career vs. career match. I lose and retire. You lose and retire.”
Hogan retorts. “As I’ve always said, jack, I’m the best there is, the best there was and the best that ever will be. Hulkamania will live forever and forever can’t retire, brother. So, since I can’t retire, I can’t lose, and I’ll take your offer, dude.” Hogan extends his hand for a shake, but pulls it back and walks off playing air guitar to his music.

Kurt Angle defeated “Exotic” Adrian Street by submission via ankle lock at 10:40. Street drops out of the Angle Slam, spins Angle around and kisses him on the mouth. Angle goes crazy out, takes Adrian’s head off with a standing lariat and then goes to the ankle lock with extra stank.
Angle refuses to let go after the bell and just grinds on the ankle lock. The Ultimate Warrior runs in with a chair. Angle lets the ankle lock go and runs off. Warrior gets a microphone. “The Olympian without any intellect, integrity and intensity could only fell the warrior with the cold smash of steel across my back. There is no intellect, integrity or intensity in using a chair. And even then, the Warrior gods would not let me yield and no chair and no Olympian without honor will make the Warrior go down.” Warrior then proceeds to smash his own face with the chair three times and then he plays to the crowd.

“Big Cat” Ernie Ladd with Dr. of Style, Slick defeated the Disciple with Maria Kanellis-Bennett by pinfall via Slapjack Slam at 7:11.
While Ladd is celebrating in the ring, Killer Kross comes out and grabs Slick around the throat, teasing a choke slam. Ladd makes the floor and they have words. Kross smiles like he knows he’s just messing with Ladd and slowly backs away.
----------
In the back, Mickie James goes to Nick Aldis’ dressing room and beats on the door. Aldis opens the door a crack and then slams it. She beats on the door again. He opens and tells her to go away. She wants to know why Aldis has backed out of the sixth match for the best of seven series tonight. He’s just scared, because Martel is still up 3-2 despite Aldis winning last night. Nick reminds her, the win was a disqualification, because she attacked Aldis on a pin attempt. That doesn’t matter. Be a man and get out here. Aldis says he’s a man alright and he can’t wrestle because of a groin pull. The door then opens all the way and AC Jazz and Spice walk out. James storms off.

The Rock ‘n Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) defeated a surlier Southern Boys (Steve Armstrong and Tracy Smothers) by pinfall of Morton on Armstrong via double dropkick.

SoCal Val has Dusty Rhodes on the interview platform. “There is a reason the American Dream is here tonight and Magnum TA is not. If you saw Great American Bash, you know why. If you didn’t, you better order the replay, daddy. But, Magnum is in the Dream’s review mirror and the further I go, the smaller he is, baby. But, who do I see in front of me, but Steve Austin. Earlier tonight he and Robert Fuller were out here complaining about a conspiracy, daddy, that the ropes were purposefully rigged to fall apart. I took the top rope apart in the match right before that to jam that pin into Magnum’s head. They didn’t say the Dream’s name, but they didn’t have to. You want to come at me, baby, come at me, baby.”

We come back to the back where Taya Valkyrie and Thunder Rosa are brawling. They get separated by security, but Valkyrie takes the U.S. Women’s Title back as they get separated. Rosa screams about getting it back and Taya charges, breaking loose from security’s grasp, and nails Rosa with the belt right in the head. Tamina Snuka backs her off. Valkyrie tells her to back off, reminding Snuka how she beat her to join the nWo. Snuka rips the belt out of Valkyrie’s hands. Snuka points for Taya to leave and she does.

Eddie Guerrero defeated Ron “The Truth” Killing by pinfall via frog splash at 12:11.

The Hart Foundation (Keith Hart, Bruce Hart, Owen Hart and Bret Hart) defeated the Stud Stable (Steve Austin, Paul Orndorff, Curt Hennig and Davey Boy Smith) by pinfall of Owen on Smith via diving splash at 12:43.
Everything breaks down toward the end and the heels get advantage of the faces while brawling on the outside as Smith and Owen go at it in the ring. Dusty Rhodes and Randy Savage then appear and turn the tide. Steve Blackman, Tamina Snuka and security rush down to try to get order.
Shane McMahon appears and books the main event for the next Nitro. Perfectly Wonderful will have their first defense of the WCW World Heavyweight Titles against Randy Savage and Dusty Rhodes. If they win…well, we’ll figure out Fall Brawl from there.
