WCW Monday Nitro episode 35 for 08.21.23
Live from the Chisholm Trail Coliseum in Enid, Oklahoma
Commentary: Gorilla Monsoon and Wade Barrett
Ring Announcer: Gary Michael Cappetta
Interviewer: SoCal Val
Referees: Tommy Young, Joey Marella and Aubrey Edwards
The Nitro Girls dance and the commentary team preview the coming show. The Great American Bash is on Sunday and a lot of today’s action might influence what we’ll see. Let’s go to the ring.
Asuka defeated Wendi Richter in a no disqualification match at 10:20 via interference from Charlotte Flair, who Richter will face at GAB for the WCW Women’s Title. Asuka goes to mist Richter, but she mists Asuka and hits the True Colors (sitout DDT). But, Flair runs in with a Queen’s Boot and a Natural Selection. She puts Asuka on top for the win.
Flair grabs a microphone from ringside. “The Queen is back and I’m focused on defending and keeping this WCW Women’s Title. Richter is the Queen of the Ring (Flair spits on the ground), she’s the queen of my ass. Ricther is nothing but an MTV reject who needs to drop the fake hair for some fake boobs if she wants to look like a real woman. And take it from a real woman, you’re going to get bashed at the Great American Bash on Sunday.”

“Stunning” Steve Austin with Col. Robert Fuller defeated “Lethal Weapon” Steve Blackman by pinfall via Stunner at 9:17.
Austin cuts a post match promo as he’s walking up the aisle. “I don’t care how tough, crazy, high flying, good technical wrestler you are; you’re not better than me. Without an Elimination Chamber to get in my way, there’s no way I don’t win the WCW World Heavyweight Title from Randy Savage at Great American Bash. Austin 3:16 said I just whipped your ass and while I’m totally stone cold, I’ve also always been stunning.”
Segment Notes
* The walking promo was an experiment, but there also needed to be filler to set up the ring for the next segment.

A contract signing is set up in the ring for Dusty Rhodes and Magnum TA for GAB in a first blood I quit match. You can’t quit until you bleed. Rhodes goes to sign, but talks first. “Magnum, you were my friend and now my enemy. You’ve dogged my heels for months. We’re probably closer now than we’ve ever been because of how this blood feud has tied us together. But that joining will be severed finally at the Great American Bash. I don’t know if it’s you coming out on top or me, but I can promise there will be blood and pain.”
Rhodes signs. Magnum goes to say something, but then just bashes Dusty in the head with the microphone. Magnum attacks Rhodes and security has a tough time getting him off, because Blackman isn’t with them and Tamina Snuka doesn’t quite measure up to Magnum. Rhodes is a bloody mess and Magnum uses Dusty’s blood on his hands to sign the contract with. He then walks off, while Rhodes is down and screaming at Magnum to come back and finish what he started.

Killer Kross and Harry Smith are already in the ring. Slick comes out to the entrance stage and introduces the newest member of the Jive Soul Bros who will be part of the triple threat six-man tag team match at GAB. Slick promised a cool cat, and he’s also a big one too. Out comes “Big Cat” Ernie Ladd.
Ernie Ladd with Slick defeated Killer Kross with Maria Kannellis-Bennett and Harry Smith by pinfall on Kross via Slapjack Slam at 10:02. Smith and Ladd pretty much teamed up and didn’t care who got the pin on Kross. Maria tries to interfere, but Smith takes her out. Ladd fights out of the Kross Jacket, nails a kick to the gut and a facebreaker to the knee, leading to the finish.
Segment Notes
* Ladd hadn’t been seen in a few weeks. Creative felt he was a good fit for the Jive Soul Bros and they didn’t have anything else for him.
* Ladd wasn’t losing this return match and they didn’t want him pinning the fellow face in Smith. The fact that it basically became a handicapped match for Kross was seen as a way for him to save face.

“Latino Heat” Eddie Guerrero and the Ultimate Warrior defeated Jake “The Snake” Roberts and Kurt Angle with Black Mamba by pinfall of Gerrero on Angle via frog splash at 8:48. Warrior goes after Mamba on the floor just because, which drags Roberts off the apron. This allows Guerrero to low blow Angle, get his own version of the Angle Slam and then the finish with the frog splash.
Segment Notes
* This is Guerrero getting revenge on Angle for the turn last week.
* Warrior vs. Roberts could be next after the current feuds end.

Toni Storm is on the interview stage with SoCal Val wearing a robe. She got flack for attacking and trying to strip Kamille Kaine last week. She shouldn’t mind it since she’s posing in Playboy. But, Storm isn’t going to make Kaine do something she’s not willing to do herself. Storm then disrobes to reveal lingerie and challenges Kaine to a lingerie match at Great American Bash. Bring it and strut it.

Rick Martel defeated “National Treasure” Nick Aldis by pinfall at 12:49. Martel is up 3-1. Last week, it was declared no gamenship this week and Martel could have Mickie James with him at GAB and Aldis would have Spice and AC Jazz from the Nitro Girls. The two go outside. Aldis goes for a charge and posts his shoulder. Martel with a half nelson suplex on the floor, followed by a shoulder breaker. He rolls Aldis back in and gets a slingshot leg drop to the shoulder and makes the pin.

SoCal Val catches up with Dusty Rhodes coming out of the medical section all bandaged up, but still bloody. “Magnum TA, once again you made me bleed my own blood and then you took that blood and used it to sign a contract between you and I for the Great American Bash. A First Blood I Quit Match. And yes, I will bleed, but I will never quit. And you will bleed and you will say those two little words for the whole world to hear. And then there will be no denying that the American Dream is better than, and always will be better than, Magnum TA.”

Hulk Hogan leads the Disciple to the ring while waving a U.S. Flag. Bret Hart then comes out with a microphone in his “Lonesome Dove” cowboy outfit. He may not be American, but he’s more cowboy than the Disciple and Hogan and that makes him more like the good folks of Enid, Oklahoma, than them. Hogan tries a rebuttal, but Hart charges the ring and goes after Disciple. Referee Tommy Young moves Hogan out of the ring, which allows Hart to kick Disciple in the groin with his cowboy boots. Tilt-a-whirl backbreaker, second rope elbow drop and Hart makes the cover for the win in about a minute and before Hogan even knows what’s going on. Hart leaves while Hogan checks on Disciple.

SoCal Val catches up with Wendi Richter in the back as she’s coming out of the medical section. Charlotte Flair might call herself the queen, but Richter went through three matches in one night to become the Queen of the Ring. She’s no rookie, she’s no dummy and she’s no pushover. Flair won’t intimidate her and the attacker earlier tonight only made her mad. Also, did Flair out herself earlier by saying she has fake breasts?

Toni Storm defeated Tamina Snuka by pinfall via Zero Storm at 5:55.
After the match, Kamille Kaine comes out in a robe. She tells Storm that she must have not done her homework. If she thinks Kaine can’t work in lingerie, she doesn’t know that she used to be in the Lingerie Football League. She’s smashed heads and been beat into the ground in her bra and panties many times. Storm just screwed herself. Kaine then takes off her robe to reveal her old LFL uniform.
SoCal Val has the New Foundation of Owen Hart and Jim Neidhart on the interview stage. Owen talks about how Perfectly Wonderful has vaulted a lot of established tag teams to get the world tag team title shot against them at GAB. But, it’s not like they’re not worthy. Curt Hennig and Paul Orndorff are great singles wrestlers, but it takes a lot more to be a well-oiled tag team, which they’ll learn on Sunday.
— — —
In a non-title match, “Macho Man” Randy Savage defeated “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig with Col. Robert Fuller by pinfall via flying elbow smash at 13:40. Owen Hart and Jim Neidhart stayed out to watch and interfered when Paul Orndorff came out to help his tag team partner. They drove off Orndorff and Fuller. Savage reverses the PerfectPlex to his own suplex. Body slam and then the elbow smash. Steve Austin comes out and points at Savage and jaws at him while we fade.
Segment Notes
* It was originally thought for Austin to interfere and cause a disqualification, but Savage as champion needed the clean win.
Dark Main Event
Bret Hart comes out and marches Austin to the ring. The rest of the Stud Stable comes out, along with Owen and Jim. Randy Savage and the Hart Foundation (Bret Hart, Owen Hart and Jim Neidhart) defeated the Stud Stable (Steve Autin, Curt Hennig, Paul Orndorff and Davey Boy Smith) with Col. Robert Fuller of pinfall of Savage on Smith via flying elbow smash at 12:40.
Segment Notes
* Dark main event was trying something new
* Austin vs. Hart could be in the future.
