AEW Dynamite
Aug. 2, 2023
Coach and Pat McAfee welcome fans to the show and preview tonight’s matches, including round two of the TBS Title Tournament, the Young Bucks taking on Dustin Rhodes and Harley Race and Rob Van Dam’s shot at earning a title opportunity against Goldberg…whose music hits. The AEW World Champion walks out to the ring, dressed in a black suit and holding the strap over his shoulder.
Goldberg - “Cody Rhodes, you might think you pulled something over on me by setting up a match against Rob Van Dam tonight, but all you’ve done is poke the bear. I’m going to Spear and Jackhammer RVD tonight. Hell, I might plow him through the ring. Then you can put anyone else in my way, and I’ll plow straight through them, too. But eventually, Cody, you’re next! And then you’ll be out of wrestling altogether.”

Match 1 - TBS Title Tournament: Taynara Melo (13-4) w/ Sammy Guevara vs. Britt Baker (1-0)
Baker set Melo up for a Stomp, but Guevara grabs her leg from the outside and stops her. She turns and yells at Guevara, which allows Melo to recover and roll Baker up for the win in 12:30. Baker kicks out a millisecond too late, and Melo gets out of the ring right away and goes up the ramp with Guevara, while Baker looks on angrily.

Roman Reigns is backstage with the rest of the Bloodline flanking him. He has something to say to the Apex, and Wardlow specifically. He says that Wardlow is about to find out what happens when you don’t acknowledge him. Reigns and the Bloodline came to AEW with the goal of making the Apex shut up. But now it’s personal. Reigns isn’t scared of Wardlow. And he wants a fair match, one-on-one, with Wardlow. Just name the time and place, and Reigns will be there.
—
Match 2 - Hijo de la Park (2-6) vs. Rey Mysterio (6-3)
Mysterio gets the win with a 619 in 7:23.
—
Taz, Raven, Cactus Jack and Hook are backstage. Taz is congratulating Hook on his TNT Championship victory, but tells him to be wary of Sammy Guevara. Hook says he knows what he’s doing. Cactus Jack makes a comment about giving Sammy a big elbow drop from him for how he cost Baker her match earlier.
The focus shifts to Raven, and Taz asks what they’re going to do about Malakai Black and Bray Wyatt. Raven shrugs and says they’ll do what they always do. Grab some weapons and cause some mayhem. There’s a loud banging at the door, and Hook answers it. Nobody is there; there’s just a solitary red balloon tied to the doorhandle.
—
Match 3 - Young Bucks (4-3) w/ Kenny Omega vs. Dustin Rhodes and Harley Race w/ Cody Rhodes
Cody keeps Omega from having an impact on the match, while his brother and Race get the upper hand on the Bucks. Race hits a signature Diving Headbutt and goes for the pin on Matt, only for Nick to break it up. The finish comes when Nick dropkicks Race off the apron, then the Bucks double team Rhodes with the BTE Trigger for the win in 9:45. As Cody slides in the ring to help his brother up, Kenny Omega grabs a chair from under the ring and attacks Race on the outside. As soon as Cody hears the hit, he runs after Omega himself, but the Bucks intervene, and the Elite beat him down before security pulls them away.

We see a video with some palm trees and a vague Miami Vice-like theme song that eventually fades out.

Matt Riddle is in his locker room playing Dance Dance Revolution when his tag team partner Jeff Cobb walks in. He asks Riddle how he got it to Tampa from Atlanta last week. Riddle stops playing and gets a big smile on his face. He picks up a bag on the couch and tosses it to Cobb, who opens it to find a hat and a shirt.
Riddle - “Bro, I started a business! It’s called 2 Bros and a Truck! We’re the two bros!” Cobb replies that, if he didn’t help him move the machine, who did? Is there another bro? Riddle says that a big dude helped him move it. The guy had long black hair…and looked kinda familiar, but Riddle didn’t recognize him.
Cobb says, again, that Riddle really needs to start focusing. He heard that Tony Khan booked them for a tag title defense soon, but he doesn’t know what the team is yet. Riddle tells Cobb to chill out and have some pizza. Cobb storms out and Riddle shrugs.
—
Match 4 - TBS Tournament: Willow Nightingale vs. Sasha Banks
Nightingale gives it her all, and nearly pulls off the massive upset after hitting a splash from the second rope, but Banks kicks out at 2.9. Banks gets the win with the Bank Statement at 13:58. They embrace after the match.
—
Ken Shamrock’s music hits, and he walks out to a nice ovation. He says that he appreciates the crowd, but he’s here for one reason only: To get his hands on the cowardly weasel, Dean Malenko, for attacking him unprovoked three weeks ago. And, barring that, he’s going to put the hurting on someone else tonight. Shamrock is the most Dangerous Man Alive, and he’s not leaving this ring until he makes someone tap out.
Malenko…doesn’t answer. Instead, it’s Max Caster and Anthony Bowens? Caster comes out with a rap about Shamrock and says he’s out of luck, and makes a reference to Shamrock’s sister sleeping with Val Venis. Shamrock waves him in the ring, and they start a match.
Match 5 - Ken Shamrock (0-1) vs. Max Caster (0-2)
Shamrock makes quick work of Caster, making him tap out in just over 2 minutes to the ankle lock. As soon as the match ends, the big screen turns on and it shows Malenko standing by a car that appears to be Shamrock’s. He takes a sledgehammer and busts Shamrock’s windshield, as Shamrock takes off running toward the back.
—
After the break, Shamrock is near his car, seething, and Malenko is nowhere to be found. Miro comes by and talks with Shamrock about how they both want revenge on Malenko. They start arguing about who will get the first shot, until Shamrock shoves Miro away. Before a brawl can break out, security holds them back and cooler heads prevail.
—
The Apex come out to the ring, where Jeff Jarrett talks about building legacies. He says the Apex is about the present and future of this business, and that Roman Reigns is in the process of ending his own career, while helping to jumpstart Wardlow’s legacy. Wardlow accepts the challenge…at Summer Smash in two weeks.
—
Rob Van Dam is getting psyched up backstage for his match against Goldberg. He tells Sabu this is his biggest chance in years, and he wants to make the best of it.
—
Main Event - Championship Eliminator Match: Goldberg © (8-0) vs. RVD (4-1)
Goldberg gets the win with a Spear and Jackhammer in 9:48. RVD put up a good fight, but Goldberg had too much power. Goldberg hit another spear for good measure after the match as the show ended.
AEW Rampage -
Aug. 4, 2023
Bianca Belair started off Rampage with a promo about her upcoming UWA Women’s Championship Match against Jade Cargill. Belair says she is the woman that will end Cargill’s undefeated streak and her reign because she is the EST. She also questions why Cargill has been avoiding her.
Cargill pops up on the big screen, sipping champagne. She tells Belair that she doesn’t fear any woman in the world, and surely not Belair. In fact, Cargill will be at Dynamite next week. She and Tay Melo will be teaming up against Belair and Sasha Banks!
—
Match 1 - Malakai Black (11-5) w/ Bray Wyatt vs. Eric Young (1-2)
Black gets the win with the Black Mass in 5:41. As they get ready to give more punishment to Young, Raven and Taz run out and stare down with Wyatt and Black. Raven says they’ve been on a collision course for a long time, so let’s make it official with a tag team match next week!
—
AEW Women’s Champion Paige VanZant appears in a workout video, as she is sparring. She tells the camera that she’s taking this challenge from Ronda Rousey seriously, and they will put this feud behind them. She make Rousey tap out in February at Revolution, then again at Double or Nothing to win the Championship. VanZant says she’s going to pull off the trifecta and make Rousey tap a third time.
—
Match 2 - The Butcher and the Blade (3-9) vs. The Usos (1-0)
The Usos get the win after 3:39 with a superkick.
—
Natural Selection comes out to address the crowd. Cesar Duran says that Big E made a mistake by calling Brian Cage a coward. Cage is going to destroy him at Summer Smash, and will remain the International Champion.
—
Main Event - Jake Hager (11-6) vs. Big E (8-2)
Big E wins with the Big Ending at 8:39. After the match, Brian Cage gets in the ring and attacks E. The New Day try to intervene, but Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander hold them off as Cage hits the C4 3 straight times and stands tall over Big E as we end the show.
