AEW Dynamite
July 12, 2023
July 12, 2023
The show opens backstage, with Ken Shamrock knocked out and getting attended to by medics, as Coach and Pat McAfee wonder on commentary what happened.
—AEW Women’s Champion Paige VanZant heads to the ring to a nice ovation, as she puts over the women’s division and talks about the TBS Title Tournament that kicks off next week at Fight for the Fallen. She wishes the women involved the best of luck…and she’s interrupted by Ronda Rousey’s music.
Rousey - “Blah, blah, freaking blah. You are so boring and vanilla. I am truly not sure what Tony Khan sees in you; or what these fans see in you. Hell, you couldn’t even complete your big quest of defeating Jade Cargill for the championship you’re carrying around. Yes, you beat me in the octagon earlier this year. But that was just dumb luck. I’m coming for that belt, and you can’t do a damned thing to stop me.”
Paige tells Rousey that she’s happy to continue proving her place at the top of the division. She’s beaten Rousey once; she can beat her again. She wants to do it tonight, which draws a cheer from the crowd, but Rousey smirks and tells Paige that won’t get off that easy. She’ll see Paige in August.
Tony Khan pops up on the big screen to inform Ronda that she will, in fact, be fighting Paige tonight in a tag team match — Ronda Rousey and Beth Phoenix against Alexa Bliss and Paige VanZant. Rousey looks upset and storms off.

Dean Malenko is talking backstage with RVD and Sabu. He asks if they’ve heard anything about Shamrock, and they also talk about the New Day. RVD says they’re a combined 1-1 against the New Day members. Maybe Malenko should break the tie with a match against Big E?
Malenko demurs and says he’s going to get to the bottom of what happened with Shamrock.
—
Match 2 - Dustin Rhodes (2-4) vs. Nick Jackson (2-1) w/ Matt Jackson
Rhodes gets another surprise singles win, completing the singles sweep of the Young Bucks in a 7-minute match. After the match, Matt slides in to start attacking Dustin, but Cody Rhodes rushes down and chases them from the ring. He grabs the mic and says he can’t wait until next week when he can get some revenge against Kenny Omega. He tells the Young Bucks that they’re next after Omega, before he turns his full attention to Goldberg.
—
Natural Selection is next out to the ring. Cesar Duran has the mic and immediately addresses Big E, who issued a challenge for Brian Cage’s All-Atlantic Championship. He puts Cage over as a fighting champion, but Big E has yet to prove he really belongs in the conversation. Duran then puts over the tag team of Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin. They’ll be back on top soon.
—
Match 3 - Ronda Rousey and Beth Phoenix vs. Alexa Bliss and Paige VanZant
Rousey and Phoenix nearly came to blows, but put aside their differences to overpower the team of Bliss and VanZant, who have some communication issues of their own. Rousey gets the win by making Bliss tap to an armbar after 9 minutes.

Dean Malenko is seen knocking on Miro’s dressing room. Miro opens up, and Malenko asks Miro where he was just before Dynamite started. Miro says that’s between him and his God. Malenko asks if he attacked Shamrock.
Miro - “I am the Redeemer and God’s favorite son. I don’t need to attack Ken Shamrock with God on my side.” He got nose-to-nose with Malenko. “Why are you so interested?”
Malenko says that veterans stick together, and he sees a kindred spirit in Shamrock. Miro tells Malenko to mind his own business and slams the door in his face.
—
Match 4 - The Acclaimed (6-6) vs. The OC (0-0)
The Acclaimed put in a great effort, but Anderson and Gallows get the win at 7:18 and put over their match for the AEW Tag Team Titles next week against the Chosen Bros.

We’re backstage with The Apex, and Shawn Spears is questioning why Jeff Jarrett intervened in his match last week against Solo Sikoa. Jarrett says that he wasn’t going to let Spears take a fall last week. They need to put one over on the Bloodline soon. Next week is Fight for the Fallen, but after that, The Apex vs. Bloodline will heat up, and they’re going to show Roman Reigns why the Jarrett family is the premier family in professional wrestling.

Dean Malenko walks out to the ring. He gets on the mic and calls out Miro. He says he knows that Miro was behind the attack on Shamrock. This brings Miro out, and he is angry. He tells Malenko that he’s going to tear him apart, limb from limb, for not believing him sooner. The match is made for Rampage.

Main Event - TNT Championship Ladder match: Hook (19-4) vs. Sammy Guevara © (19-6) w/ Tay Melo
Hook and Guevara put on a banger of a match. Guevara tried to get the ladder quickly and get the match over, but Hook shoved the ladder over and sent Guevara crashing to the floor, then followed his opponent to the mat, where he locked in the REDRUM. Melo pleaded with him to break the hold. He eventually did, as he couldn’t win like that.
Hook got back in the ring and started climbing the ladder, while Melo roused Guevara. He springboarded onto the ladder and met Hook at the top. They exchanged punches and Guevera eventually got the upper hand. He hit a swinging neckbreaker off the top of the ladder, sending both crashing to the mat!
After a period of recovery, the two stars did some mat wrestling to try to get the upper hand. Neither could do it. Hook hit a huge Tazplex and climbed the ladder, but Guevara was able to pull him down.
The match ended when Guevera hit a GTH off the ladder to Hook! Guevara climbed up the ladder slowly, but Hook somehow recovered and met him at the top. Guevara swung at Hook, who ducked and grabbed his arm - and flung Guevara off the ladder! Hook was alone at the top of the ladder, and he grabbed the title belt. Hook has regained the TNT Championship, as Melo looks on, distraught, and the show ends with Hook holding the belt high above his head. Match time: 23:23

Match 2 - MVP (6-3) vs. Malakai Black (10-5) w/ Bray Wyatt
Black gets the win with the Black Mass in 8:32.
Raven comes out to the ring after the match and contemplates joining the Wyatt family. He says that he’s not used to following. He’s a leader. But he sees the potential in Wyatt; and, though he and Black have had their differences, he could be willing to set it aside. Wyatt beckons him forward and whispers into his ear, before hitting Sister Abigail! MVP is up and considers intervening, but walks away as Malakai Black lifts Raven up…and Cactus Jack’s music hits! He runs out, fuming, as Black drops Raven and readies for Jack to attack. He holds up for a moment as “Survive, If I let you” plays over the speakers and Taz runs out. Jack and Taz enter the ring together and start to brawl with Wyatt and Black, who eventually bail as Raven rises.
—
Main Event - Miro (2-0) vs. Dean Malenko (9-12)
Miro and Malenko have a good match on the mat, but Malenko can’t contend with Miro’s Power, as the Redeemer finished with the Game Over (camel clutch) in 10:40.
Miro grabbed the mic after and said that he wants Malenko to shut up about his intentions. He didn’t attack Ken Shamrock. But he’s going to get to the bottom of the matter. While he was talking, Malenko slid to the outside of the ring and grabbed the ring bell. After Miro was done, Malenko said “Hey!” and Miro turned into a shot from the bell. The show ended with Malenko sneering over Miro, sneering.
