WCW Monday Nitro episode 26 for 06.12.23
Live from the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Gulfport, Mississippi
Commentary: Gorilla Monsoon and Wade Barrett
Ring Announcer: Gary Michael Cappetta
Interviewer: SoCal Val
Referees: Tommy Young, Joey Marella and Aubrey Edwards
The show opens with footage from the end of the last Nitro of Black Mamba (Omos dressed kind of like Drago) under the control of Jake “The Snake” Roberts choke slamming Chris Jericho and Curt Hennig.
We go live to Roberts in the ring with Black Mamba looming behind him. “The Black Mamba is one of the deadliest snakes in the world. You have to be a fool to cross one. But that’s what I was betting on Chris Jericho and Curt Hennig to be and they didn’t disappoint. This man…no, scratch that…this monster, this beast, will be my destroyer of worlds to wipe out the two mortal men who dare cross me. And right now, I’m going to let him show just how devastating he can be.”
Black Mamba defeated Duane Gill and Barry Hardy in a handicapped match at 1:12 by choke slamming both and then stacking them on top of each other.
Curt Hennig comes down the aisle, slow clapping. He’s not impressed by a freak in a Halloween costume. Roberts asks where Jericho is and Hennig says he’s not Jericho’s keeper. But Roberts is Black Mamba’s keeper, so why doesn’t Hennig get into the ring with him right now.
“Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig defeated Black Mamba by disqualification at 5:32. Hennig plays keepaway for most of the match and uses a strike and move strategy. However, Mamba catches him on a crossbody try, delivers three back breakers to the knee while holding on then then swings Curt around for a tilt-a-whirl side slam. He lines up the choke slam, but Hennig elbows out and lands on the mat. Knee clip. Rolling neck snap. He tries for the PerfectPlex, but Roberts breaks it up for the DQ and hits Hennig with a DDT.
Robert leers over Hennig after and tells him to ask one simple question, where was Chris Jericho when he needed him.

Eli Drake with Maria Kannellis-Bennett defeated Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart by pinfall at 8:48. Jim gets the Anvil Flattner, but Maria jumps up on the apron. Owen Hart runs out to pull her off and that brings out Mike Bennett. The distraction allows Drake to get a schoolboy on Neidhart and he pulls the tights to get the pinfall. Everyone brawls after.

SoCal Val has Nick Aldis and Mickie James on the interview stage. James seems to be in tears as she apologizes to Aldis for all he’s put him through and she never meant for her mixed tag team with Rick Martel to get out of hand like it did. Aldis tells James he loves her and he doesn’t blame her for anything. Martel is a manipulator and now that they’re on the same page, there’s nothing he can do to break them apart again.
Martel then comes out wearing the WCW U.S. Title and sporting a big smile. He’s so happy to see James and Aldis back together. Although, he’s kind of surprised with everything James has told him. Like, did Aldis finally get help for his little problem. Aldis isn’t going to take the bait. Martel wishes them luck in their mixed tag match later. He extends a hand, but Aldis doesn’t take it and he and James leave.

“The Man with the Hands of Stone” Ronnie Garvin defeated “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin by pinfall via Stonecutter at 7:17. Terry and Jimmy beat Ronnie down after. Jimmy yells who is going to save him, because Dusty Rhodes isn’t in the house tonight.
“Grizzled” Sam Houston then runs out and clears the ring with a chair. Houston grabs the dropped microphone and tells the Garvins that he’s another ally of Dusty Rhodes’ everyone forgot about. Dusty helped bring him along in his rookie year and Ronnie Garvin is someone else who always gave him great respect and advice back in the locker room. They stood by him then and he stands by them now.

Dr. of Style Slick is in the back with Power Station (Will Hobbs and Odyssey Jones). Slick believes what the Jive Soul Bros needed was a sweet soul sista and they have one now in Ember Moon. She comes out and talks trash on Nick Aldis and Mickie James for their upcoming mixed tag match.

“National Treasure” Nick Aldis and Mickie James defeated “Powerhouse” Will Hobbs and Ember Moon with Dr. of Style Slick by pinfall of James on Moon via MickDDT at 10:03. Aldis and James celebrate after.

Curt Hennig is in the back holding the back of his head and neck. He’s on speaker phone with Chris Jericho. Jericho said he shouldn’t have gone after Black Mamba and Roberts without backup. Hennig would have backup if his tag partner for Clash of Champions was there. Jericho has commitments across the UWA. Hennig wouldn’t understand. Well, he just might understand after Phoenix Rising and his UWA title match with Jericho. Let’s see if Jericho can be at his supposed home federation next week.

Kamille Kaine defeated Madusa Micelli with Col. Robert Fuller by pinfall via spear at 7:45. Rhea Ripley watched Kaine’s match from the entrance stage for the third week in a row.

SoCal Val has Hulk Hogan on the interview stage. “The people here in Mudhole, Mississippi are blessed to have Jesus H. Hogan here tonight and the H stands for Hollywood, brother. But, you know who’s not here, jack? Dusty Rhodes. I’m told he’s down in Forsythe, Georgia, shooting television commercials for a podunk car dealership. Meanwhile, I’m making billion dollar movies out in Hollywood, brother, and polishing my two Oscars for “Mr. Nanny.” That’s right, I composed the score too, brother. And we got robbed for best picture by “Schindler’s List,” brother, and everybody knows it. And the only starring role Kevin Owens can get is in his own mind thinking he ever beat Hulk Hogan. I know about Hollywood special effects magic, brother, and that empty arena match at Slamboree, which nobody saw in person live, jack, was nothing but green screen and stunt doubles. So, what is Kevin Owens, Dusty Rhodes and whoever else in WCW going to do when the largest arms in Hollywood run wild on you?”

Kurt Angle defeated Killer Kross with Maria Kannellis-Bennett by count out in an amateur style match for the WCW Wild Card Title at 5:32. Kross tries to out muscle Angle, but that just doesn’t work in a bout like this, so he get frustrated and takes a walk. Since he won’t return to the ring Tommy Young calls it a count out.
However, Kevin Owens comes out and brawls with Kross forcing him back toward the ring and Angle comes out to the floor and surprises him with an Angle Slam. Drake, Atlas and Bennett run out and they brawl. Hulk Hogan just looks on from the stage and strokes his goatee.

“Big Cat” Ernie Ladd defeated Ortiz by pinfall via running shoulder breaker at 6:57.

In the back, Maria Kannellis-Bennett goes to Ember Moon and tells her that she agrees Moon needs management to guide her career, but Slick obviously isn’t it with the loss tonight. The nWo wants to get into the women’s division and Moon could be the woman. Slick comes up and tells Maria to get her flat white girl butt out of there. Flat butt? That’s one she hasn’t heard before.

“Macho Man” Randy Savage, Eddie Guerrero and Brian Pillman Jr. defeated “Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff, “Stunning” Steve Austin and Magnum TA by pinfall of Savage on Austin by pinfall via top rope elbow smash following the Three Amigos by Eddie. Pillman hits a double flying clothesline over the ropes to knock Magnum and Orndorff off the apron to neutralize them at the finish.
