AEW Dynamite
May 3, 2023
AEW World Champion Bill Goldberg starts the show, talking about how he came to this company with a simple goal — end Cody Rhodes’ world title reign as quickly as possible, and assert his own dominance as the only person to hold the WCW, WWE and AEW World Championships. After accomplishing that, he’s now faced and defeated all comers; and decided to go ahead and wreak a little more havoc in Cody’s life.
Cody’s music hits, and he walks out alongside the Young Bucks. He says that Goldberg, for some reason, can’t leave him alone. He’s already apologized to the Bucks for letting them down during the trios finals last week. But all Goldberg accomplished by distracting him last week is freeing Cody up for a title rematch at Double or Nothing.
The New Day’s music hits, and that trio joins Cody and the Bucks on the stage. Big E, with the mic, says that he respects Cody a lot. But it’s his turn to get to the top of the mountain. Big E vs. Goldberg for the AEW Championship, at Double or Nothing.
Goldberg smiles in the ring and nods his head. He says he has an idea — Cody and his friends can face Big E and his friends tonight. The winner gets the shot at Double or Nothing. And the loser? No more AEW World Title shots as long as Goldberg remains champion.
Cody and Big E look at each other, then nod and shake hands.

Match 1 - Riho (7-10) vs. Madison Rayne (8-3) w/ the Beautiful People
Rayne picks up the win with a roll-up on Riho, with her legs on the ropes, in 8:12. After the match, she grabs a microphone and says that she is one of the only women on the roster yet to receive a title shot. She’s throwing her hat in the ring for Double or Nothing.

Rick and Scott Steiner are seen earlier today, talking with Coach. He asks them about Scott Hall and Kevin Nash’s comments from last week, as well as their attack during Fyter Fest. Rick says they wanted to provoke the Steiners, well they’ve just reawakened the Dog-Faced Gremlin, and they’ll get bitten at Double or Nothing.
Scott steps up and says, “And if you’re not down with that, we’ve got two words…” he’s interrupted by Rick, who says that’s not their schtick. He turns to the camera and tells Hall and Nash - “If you want some, come get some. You don’t like me? Bite me!” and he starts barking as Coach and Scott look on.

Match 2 - LAX (8-6) vs. The Acclaimed (6-4)
LAX gets the win after Hernandez hits the Border Toss on Max Caster at 12:49.

The Natural Selection trio of Shelton Benjamin, Cedric Alexander and Brian Cage come to the ring, with their manager Cesar Duran. Benjamin and Alexander are holding their titles. Duran grabs the mic.
“Last week, these guys proved why they are the present and future of this business by winning the first ever AEW King of Trios Tournament. Brian Cage, the Machine, is on a fast track to the AEW All-Atlantic Championship. It’s just one more step on his way toward the World Championship. And these other two? They’ll be watching Double or Nothing from the front row; our victory last week ensures they won’t have to defend the titles any time soon.”
The Chosen Bros’ music hits, and out walk Matt Riddle and Jeff Cobb. Cobb is pushing a cart that is holding a TV/VCR combo, while Riddle is carrying the box that was delivered to them last week.
Riddle - “Before you celebrate too much, mi amigos, we have something to show you!” Cobb asks what’s in the box, and Riddle opens it and pulls out a videotape that says “evidence” on it. He slides the tape into the machine and pushes play. Of course, nobody can see what’s on the screen. He asks Cobb to plug the TV into the big screen. They take a long wire to the back stage, and eventually the video shows on the big screen.
The video shows Duran talking to the ref of the Chosen Bros’ second round match against RVD and Sabu after that match. Duran is heard saying “thanks for doing your part” and hands the ref a suitcase, presumably with money.
Riddle - “We knew the count was a little fast during that match, but didn’t realize that it was because you’d paid the ref off. You should have never been in the trios tournament; and we should have a title shot. In fact, Mr. Antonio Khan has now said you will be defending your tag team titles at the pay-per-view.”
Duran looks angry and tells Riddle and Cobb that they should have destroyed that tape. It would have saved them from the beatdown of their lives.

Match 3 - Jake Hager (10-6) vs. Raven (6-6)
Hager gets the win in 9:31 with a Swagger Bomb.
—
Jade Cargill comes to the ring with both the UWA and AEW Women’s Championships on her shoulders. She says that she defeated both Alexa Bliss and Beth Phoenix last week at Fyter Fest. She’s been AEW Women’s Champion for over a year, and remains undefeated. She’s taken on all-comers around the world. Nobody in this company or any other has what it takes to beat Jade Cargill.
—
Match 4 - Dean Malenko (8-11) vs. Davey Richards (1-0)
Malenko gets the win in 7:23 with the Texas Cloverleaf.
—
The Apex comes out to the ring with their new lineup — Jeff Jarrett, JBL, Shawn Spears and Wardlow. The crowd is booing, so JBL grabs the mic and tells them to sit down and shut up and stop booing, which makes them jeer louder.
Jarrett grabs the mic and talks about last week and Wardlow laying waste to Chris Jericho, who Jarrett will face at Double or Nothing for the Universal Championship. He calls Jericho a disgrace to the championship and that it’s a disgrace that anyone from Canada should be the Universal Champion.

Main Event - The New Day vs. Cody Rhodes & The Young Bucks
Goldberg watches from the announce table. The crowd loudly supports both the New Day and Rhodes/Bucks, as the match goes back-and-forth at a frantic pace.
Big E nearly gets the win with the Big Ending on Matt Jackson at 10 minutes, but Rhodes breaks up the pin, which leads to a six-man fight in the ring.
Later, Rhodes and E are the legal men. Rhodes goes for the CrossRhodes, but Woods breaks it up, which draws the Bucks into the ring again. They toss both Woods and Kingston from the ring, and Big E stands up, facing Rhodes and the Bucks. Before anything happens, the Bucks hit surprise Superkicks on Rhodes while E looks on in disbelief! They drag Rhodes up and hit the BTE Trigger before sliding out of the ring and walking up the ramp to a chorus of boos.
Big E says he doesn’t want to win like this, while Goldberg stands and yells at Big E that if he wants a shot at his title, he needs to pin Rhodes.
Big E reluctantly covers Rhodes, who kicks out at 2.9. Big E then hits the Big Ending on Rhodes and pins him at 16:23 for the win. After the match, he gets Rhodes up and says he’s sorry for how it happened. Rhodes looks dejected, and looks longingly at the AEW Title before walking off.
Big E and Goldberg stare each other down as the show ends.

Jurassic Express gets the win with Jungle Boy’s Snare Trap on LA Park Jr. in 7:25.

RVD and Sabu go into Tony Khan’s office, where they plead their case for a shot at the tag titles. They got screwed out of the trios tournament, too. Khan nods his approval and says that makes sense. The Chosen Bros will face off against RVD and Sabu next week for the title shot. And tonight, Sabu can face off against Jeff Cobb.
—
Match 2 - Abadon (3-0) w/ Alexa Bliss vs. Willow Nightingale (3-2)
Nightingale gets the win over Abadon, after Bliss accidentally trips Abadon, at 6:49.
After the match, Bliss apologizes to Abadon, who responds by hitting the Twist of Hate on her and slinking off.

Jon Moxley comes to the ring and talks about Fyter Fest. He says that two cowards in masks blindsided him after his match and laid him out. He says he gets it, he’s a scary dude in a straight-up fight. But that’s what he wants…his mic cuts out and maniacal laughter fills the arena. It stops, and a figure carrying a lantern walks out from backstage. He’s wearing a pig mask.
He removes the mask and then has a microphone — “Jon Moxley, my name is Bray Wyatt. I have come to AEW to do a lot of things. But right now? I’m here to instill terror in your life. And I believe you know my associate, Malakai Black.”
Black is now in the ring behind Mox. He taps Mox on the shoulder, and Mox turns into the Black Mask. Black looks over a fallen Mox with a grin, then leaves the ring to meet up with Wyatt.
—
Main Event - Sabu (0-0) w/ RVD vs. Jeff Cobb (7-6) w/ Matt Riddle
The two put on a great match, showcasing Cobb’s physicality against Sabu’s balls-to-the-wall action. Cobb gets distracted when Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander come out to attack Riddle. Sabu gets the victory after hitting a moonsault at 14:55.
