AEW Dynamite - Fyter Fest
April 26, 2023
Fyter Fest kicks off with a special intro commemorating AEW’s one-year anniversary as a member of the Universal Wrestling Association. The package ends with a highlight reel of Jade Cargill’s past year — the UWA/AEW Women’s Champion is 24-0 and has been undefeated for more than a year, having won the AEW Women’s Championship against Paige VanZant at last year’s Fyter Fest. She’s defended the AEW title successfully 9 times, and has begun defending the UWA title around the world. Tonight and Friday, she will face one of her toughest challenges — two defenses against more-than-worthy opponents in Alexa Bliss and Beth Phoenix.
Pat McAfee and Coach welcome AEW fans to the show, and say we’ve got a packed show on Dynamite, including two title matches and the finals of the King of Trios Tournament. Plus, Sammy Guevara will try to get his win back against Rey Mysterio. There are no time limits on any matches. Without further ado, they toss it to ringside where Jade Cargill gets a special entrance and is dressed as Storm from X-Men. Alexa Bliss is wearing her white contacts and demon-inspired ring gear.
Match 1 - UWA Women’s Championship - Jade Cargill © (24-0) vs. Alexa Bliss (6-4) w/ Abadon
Bliss starts off the match fast by trying to chop Cargill down to her size and constantly stays on her until Cargill connects with a vicious European uppercut, then whips Bliss into the ropes and hits a bicycle kick. Abadon drags Bliss from the ring for a breather, while Cargill sits on the top turnbuckle and waits.
Bliss grabs the title belt and slides in the ring, looking to attack Cargill. The ref confronts her, while Abadon slides in the ring and hits Cargill with a Twist of Hate! Bliss hands the ref the belt, then rushes over to Cargill and hits the Twisted Bliss. She goes for the pin and gets a 2-count.
Cargill is incensed and bench presses Bliss up out of the pinning attempts. She stands up into a gorilla press slam. She hits a bodyslam, followed by a running leg drop and then the Jaded for the pinfall at 9:58.
After the match, Abadon slides in the ring and whispers to Bliss, who gets up and looks dejected, as Cargill celebrates her victory.

Backstage, Matt Riddle and Jeff Cobb are playing Connect 4. Riddle says they’ve got to do something to get a title shot. It’s been a year, and they’ve never even had a shot at the tag team titles. And Natural Selection is clearly afraid of them.
There’s a knock at the door. Riddle answers it to find a box sitting on the ground. “Ooooh! A present!” He picks up the box and shuts the door, shutting the camera out.

Match 2 - Rey Mysterio (4-1) vs. Sammy Guevara (15-6) w/ Tay Melo
The pair starts off slow, feeling each other out and eventually picking up the pace. Match highlights -
An early reversal fest saw Rey flip out of a German suplex and followed it up with a dropkick that Sammy caught in a powerbomb; Rey reversed that into a hurricanrana that Sammy flipped out of and landed on his feet, but Rey followed that up with a dropkick to his back, sending Sammy to position for the 619. Rey goes for the move, but Sammy drops out of the way;
Sammy gained control of the match and went to work grounding Rey, working on his legs with a series of stomps, a half-crab and a grapevine hold.
Rey regained control after hitting and enziguri, then dropped the dime. He went for a Frog Splash, which got the first nearfall of the match
Sammy rolled Rey up for 2, then followed that up with a GTH for 2; Sammy hit a falling DDT and a standing Shooting Star Press, also getting a 2 count. Sammy started to get frustrated and spent time complaining to the ref.
Rey used the distraction to springboard into a Hurricanrana that sent Sammy into the ropes. Rey hit the 619 and springboard senton, which drew a huge pop from the crowd. Rey pins Sammy and gets a 1…2…kickout! Rey looks shocked; so do many fans, and even Tay;
He follows that up by getting Sammy to the corner. He kicks him down to set up for a Bronco Buster, then heads to the opposite corner. While he’s doing that, Tay slips something into Sammy’s hand. Rey hits the Bronco Buster.
The end of the match — Rey gets Sammy up to the top rope to go for a top rope Hurricanrana. But Sammy punches Rey in the face! Rey drops to the mat, out cold, as the ref looks at him. Sammy drops the item from his hand back to Tay — Coach - “That’s the Dynamite Diamond Ring! That filthy cheater!” — and stands on the top rope. He does the Eddie Guerrero shimmy, flips Rey off, and hits a huge frog splash for the pinfall victory in 26:29.
Sammy celebrates the win after the match with Tay, as Rey slowly comes to in the ring, looking confused about what happened.

Scott Hall and Kevin Nash come out to the ring and cut a promo about the Steiner Brothers. Their legacies have intertwined over the years, but it seems like the Steiners have been one step ahead of them, but it’s time to have one last showdown between the Outsiders and the Steiners.

Match 3 - AEW World Championship: Goldberg © (4-0) vs. MVP (6-1)
MVP uses his elite athleticism to stay out of the reach of Goldberg and tries wearing him down throughout the match. Eventually, Goldberg goes to the corner and beckons MVP to face him. MVP nods and they square off in the middle of the ring -
A collar-to-collar lockup sees Goldberg shove MVP down. He pops up and tries clotheslining Goldberg, but can’t knock the more powerful champion down. On the 4th try, Goldberg boots MVP in the face and knocks him down;
MVP pops up and goes for a double-leg takedown, but Goldberg resists; he lifts MVP up for a big powerbomb that gets just a 1-count;
He lifts MVP up in a Gorilla Press Slam, but the challenger wiggles down and rolls Goldberg up for a 2-count;
MVP is able to keep up his momentum, hitting a Drive-by Kick, followed by the Playmaker and the Baller’s Elbow, but he’s only able to get a 2-count;
After a second Baller’s Elbow, Goldberg pops up and roars; he whips MVP into the ropes and hits a massive spear, followed by a Jackhammer that he holds for a full 10-count. Goldberg gets the pin to defend his championship at a match time of 12:48.

The Apex is in a backstage room, sitting around a table. Jeff Jarrett tells them how important this week is the beginning of his journey toward UWA stardom as he becomes the UWA Champion next month at Double or Nothing, the same event where he became the inaugural AEW World Champion a year ago.
James Storm asks who Jarrett was talking to last week. Jarrett replies that Beer Money is on a short leash, and the identity of the person he was talking to is on a need-to-know basis. Jarrett walks off, with Shawn Spears and JBL close behind, as Beer Money stay seated.

Natural Selection comes out to the ring before the King of Trios Tournament Finals, and manager Cesar Duran has the mic. He introduces the crowd to the tag team champions in Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander — who will get to take the next month off after they win the King of Trios Tournament tonight. He also introduces the “future All-Atlantic Champion” Brian Cage, who grabs the mic -
Cage: “It doesn’t matter whether I face Samoa Joe or Taz next month. I will walk out of Double or Nothing a champion, and Natural Selection will show the full force of what we can accomplish together, starting tonight when we wipe the floor with Cody Rhodes and the Young Bucks.”

Main Event - King of Trios Tournament Finals: Cody Rhodes & Young Bucks vs. Natural Selection w/ Cesar Duran
Rhodes and Cage start the match, and it’s a familiar theme for the night — the more powerful Cage tries tossing Rhodes around, while the more agile Rhodes stays one step ahead throughout. They eventually tag in the Bucks and Benjamin and Alexander, who have a high-flying back-and-forth match.
The Bucks hit a Superkick party early, but Cage breaks up the pinfall attempt;
Alexander gains control of the match for a bit with a springboard roundhouse, and hits the Lumbar Check on Nick Jackson for a nearfall;
The heels isolate Matt Jackson for a few minutes. His partners keep breaking up pin attempts, but Matt is stuck in the ring and gets hit by a vicious Drill Claw. Rhodes breaks up the pin, and the match devolves into a six-man brawl in the middle of the ring;
Rhodes gets a hot tag and runs wild on Benjamin and Alexander, until Cage clotheslines him almost out of his boots;
The match turns when Matt Jackson is back in the ring and Rhodes is waiting to get tagged in. Goldberg’s music hits, and he walks out on the stage, carrying his championship. He says that it’s funny how far Rhodes has fallen since Goldberg came into the company; he’s gone from being the AEW World Champion to having to fight for a chance to win a different title. Rhodes hops down and walks up the ramp, saying he’ll fight any time. Goldberg lays down the title and starts unbuttoning his shirt, beckoning Rhodes on.
While Rhodes is distracted, Natural Selection is able to use the numbers game to their advantage, and Cage hits a Drill Claw on Matt, then tags Alexander in for a Frog Splash to get the victory.
Rhodes looks stunned after the bell rings, while Goldberg laughs and picks up the championship, walking to the back.
Natural Selection celebrates their victory and lifts the King of Trios Trophy high in the air as the show ends and we get a preview for Friday’s Rampage and conclusion to Fyter Fest:
