Promoter: Paul Boesch
General Manager: William Regal
Announce Team: The Professional Brian Myers & Pat McAfee
Backstage Interviewer: Kayla Braxton
Pat and Brian welcome us to the high plains for Lone Star Live! If San Antonio was The End, tonight is the beginning. The Beginning of the Ric Flair era, the beginning of a new dynamic for the Von Erich Family and we can't wait to see it all.
throw to inside the ring, where Kayla Braxton is standing and introduces the NEW World Class Heavyweight Champion, The Nature Boy Ric Flair! Flair comes down in a 3 piece suit, carrying the WCCW Title under his arm. He grabs Kayla's hand and gives her a spin, Wooooing at what he sees. He tells us the he is feeling No pain right now, as the celebration has gone night in and night out ever since he had his hand raised against The American Dream. Flair puts Rhodes over as his toughest opponent yet, but tonight is about a New year, a New Champion, and a New WCCW.
Kayla asks who his next defense will be against, but is interrupted by the GM. Regal stands on the stage and congratulates Flair. He says there is a long list of men wanting to get in the ring with The Nature Boy. Regals says he and Mr. Boesch have consulted with the WCCW Executive Committee. and have determined that Ric Flair will defend the WCCW Title in two weeks at Caribbean Chaos against The Rainmaker Kazuchika Okada!
Okada comes to the stage, seconded by The Stone Pitbull Tomohiro Ishii. They march to the ring to the astonishment of the fans. Flair takes his jacket off and he and Okada go nose to nose. Ishii works his way in between them, then roughly shoves Flair to the mat. Okada backs his man up and they leave slowly, exchanging glares with Flair, who is on his butt on the mat the entire time.
Pat is super-enthused for Flair vs Okada. San Juan Puerto Rico has been through big storms before, but he isn't sure if the city is ready for these two men. Brian agrees and sends us to the ring for our first match of the night
Jose Lothario vs. The Stone Pitbull Tomohiro Ishii
Ishii remains in the ring, while Okada stands stoically on the outside. Lothario comes down to a babyface pop, and we are underway. Lothario takes the fight to Ishii at first, connecting with a dropkick and some lucha-inspired takedowns. Ishii evens the score with a dragon screw leg whip and a pump handle slam. Lothario with a flying forearm for 2. Ishii powers back and hits a Brainbuster for a close 2. Diving Sunset flip for another 2 from Lothario. Ishii with a backbreaker and goes for a powerbomb. Lothario 'ranas out of that and flips The Pitbull for another 2 count. Ishii gets the better of an exchange of stiff strikes. Jose backflips off the top rope and lands behind Ishii, then dropkicks him into the buckles and a a belly to back suplex out of it. Ishii is down for 2, but Lothario cannot put him away. Ishii tries a headscissor take down, but Ishii catches him, holds on and wildly swings him into a sit out powerbomb for the 1...2...3.
Your Winner, via Pinfall (7:47) The Stone Pitbull Tomohiro Ishii!
Brian was impressed by both men in their debuts. Pat notes the level of competition has just been raised. He notes that some on the WCCW roster will need to raise their game to keep up.
We see a video recap of the first round of the Tag Team Title Tournament. We're all set to begin round two, but Brian says he's been instructed we have a special announcement coming and throws it to Kayla Braxton in the back.
Kayla is standing beside Promoter Paul Boesch. Boesch says he has been very impressed by the level of competition in the tournament so far. He congratulates each team for advancing. The Executive Committee have decided to reward them with a special second chance opportunity. The four winners tonight will continue on to the Semi Finals, working towards becoming World Class Tag Team Champions as planned.
However, The four losing teams will fall into a separate four team bracket and the winner of that will be awarded the WCCW Texas Tag Team Titles.
