AEW Dynamite - Nov. 16, 2022
Live from Indianapolis, IN
The foursome of Matt Riddle, Jeff Cobb, Dude Love and Rob Van Dam come out to increasingly louder applause. Riddle grabs the mic, with a big smile.
Riddle: “Bro! This is way cooler than I could have imagined. We’ve got my best friend, Jeffrey Cobb. A man I try to emulate in my everyday attitude in Dude Love. And my favorite wrestler of all time in Rob Van Dam, Mr. Wednesday Night! And all we need is one more friend to join us.”
Dude Love: “That’s right, daddy-o! And, man, does the Dude have the inside scoop-idy-doop for you. But I don’t want to step on any toesy-woesies. I’m just glad to be a part of the team, Mr. Riddle-me-this!”
RVD: “You all might just be a little too high energy for me. I’m a little more laid back these days. At least until I get in the ring…”
He’s interrupted by The Apex, and JBL has the mic. “I thought Tony Khan would have a strict drug-free policy in AEW. But apparently, I was wrong. Looking at the four of you in that ring: And aging hippie; two dope-heads; and surfer-boy Jeff Cobb. What the hell kind of place is this?”
RVD: “This is the kind of place where guys like me kick the ass of guys like you. Get down here now and I’ll give you a little preview of this weekend.”
Match 1: JBL (3-4) vs. Rob Van Dam (0-0)
JBL and RVD went back and forth, RVD hitting a lot of signature kicks and moves. He hit a signature frog splash, but Shawn Spears pulled the ref out. After the ref jumped back in, RVD hit the Air Van Dam to the outside of the ring on all of the members of The Apex except JBL. Both groups got into a big brawl after this and the match was thrown out at 8:11.
The Apex got the upper hand thanks to a chair from Jeff Jarrett, and the beatdown is on in the middle of the ring until someone new runs in from the back, carrying a chair. It’s Sabu! He hits each member of Beer Money and JBL in the head with a chair, while Jarrett and Spears slide out of the ring and retreat. RVD grabs the mic again.
“I’d like to introduce you to a friend of mine. We’ve fought and bled with and against each other many times over the years. And we’re going to at least one more time. So, Team Apex, you’re on at Full Gear. We are all the Chosen Bros, for one night only, and we’re going to kick your asses all over the United Center.

Earlier tonight, Taz asked Raven if he’d seen Hook around this week. Raven said he hadn’t.
Taz - “My boy hasn’t called, texted, Zoomed, Tik-Tok’d or MySpaced since he walked off through the crowd. And he missed pasta night, Raven. We’re Italian, man. We don’t miss pasta night.”
Raven - “I don’t know what to tell you, man. Malakai Black has gotten into his head. I’m going to take care of that knock-off this weekend, then we’ll reach back out to Hook.”

Match 2: The Young Bucks (0-1) vs. Los Parks (5-5)
The Bucks pick up the win over Los Parks, after Nick hits a superkick on Park Jr. at 9:07.
After the match, it’s announced that the Bucks will face the Natural Selection duo of Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander at Full Gear.

Jon Moxley comes to the ring carrying a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire. He’s got something to say to Samoa Joe. “You keep trying to break me, Joe. But I can guarantee that nothing you’re putting my body through is any worse than what I’ve already been through. So I’m going to cut to the chase: You’re pissed because I beat you in less than two minutes. And you’re pissed that Jake Hager beat you before that. But you’re taking it out on the wrong person, Joe. And I’m going to put you through hell this weekend at Full Gear. The ring is going to be wrapped in barbed wire like this bat is. I can guarantee that I’ll feel a lot of pain. And I can guarantee that you will feel more.”
Joe comes out to the ring and stands face-to-face with Mox. “Do you think a barbed wire match intimidates me? I exist to do one thing, and one thing only: Cause pain to my opponents. You’ve just given me a new tool to cause pain.” They go nose-to-nose, but officials are quickly in the ring to keep them separated.

Match 3: The American Wolves & Jake Hager vs. Gable Steveson & Jurassic Express
Throughout the match, Hager keeps tagging out when Steveson tags in. He keeps saying he doesn’t want to give Steveson any more time to prepare for their match this weekend. Eventually, Hager tags out and just leaves the ringside area with his All-Atlantic Championship belt, leaving the Wolves to lose in a 2-on-3 situation. Steveson pins Edwards with the Olympic Slam at 7:10.
After the match, Steveson vows to regain the All-Atlantic Championship. He won’t let Hager run off with the belt again.
—
Match 4: Non-Title: Cody Rhodes (9-2) vs. Shelton Benjamin (1-0) w/ Cesar Duran
Rhodes and Benjamin have an athletic, back-and-forth match. Benjamin got a 2-count after rolling Rhodes up following a distraction from Duran. Later, Benjamin springboarded off the ropes into a Cody Cutter. The match ended at 12:42 after a CrossRhodes by Cody. Following the match, Brian Cage rushed the ring and attacked a tired Rhodes. He hit a powerbomb and a C4 on Rhodes before The Young Bucks ran out, and Cage scattered with a smile.

We get a preview for Steiners vs. Outsiders, with a career retrospective on both. Nash and Hall have won tag team championships together on 7 occasions, while the Steiners are in their career-spanning 12th championship reign across old NWA/WCW, WWF/E, IWGP and now AEW.

Main Event: Ronda Rousey (2-0) w/ Paige VanZant vs. Beth Phoenix (0-0)
Jade Cargill and Sasha Banks came out for commentary. Cargill is confident that she’ll handle VanZant on Sunday; and Banks wants to put the stolen championship behind her and move on. Cargill says the championship should be hers, anyway. Banks tells her to earn another shot, and to not cash checks with her mouth that her body can’t cash.
Rousey vs. Phoenix is physical. Rousey tries striking Phoenix, but gets caught and taken down. Phoenix hits a delayed Fisherman’s Suplex for a nearfall at the 8 minute mark. She then lifts Rousey up in a Military Press and holds it, dropping Rousey straight to the mat. Phoenix goes to the side and starts yelling at Banks. While she does this, Rousey rises and locks in a Sleeper Hold! Phoenix fades, but eventually gets a second wind and powers out of the hold.
Rousey hits the Piper’s Pit for a 2-count, and is frustrated afterward. Phoenix rolls her up and puts her feet on the ropes for leverage. VanZant points it out to the ref, who kicks the feet off. Later, Rousey goes to pick Phoenix off the mat and gets poked in the eyes. This brings VanZant up to the apron to complain to the ref. Rousey recovers and hits a second Piper’s Pit! She goes for the pin, but VanZant is still arguing with the ref. Rousey gets the ref’s attention, but it’s too late as Phoenix kicks out.
Rousey is furious and goes over to argue with VanZant. Phoenix spins her around and hits the Glam Slam! Then she hits another one! She goes for the pin…1…2…3! Beth Phoenix wins in 17:31, and will go on to face Sasha Banks at Full Gear for the UWA Women’s Championship.
After the match, VanZant is checking on Rousey when Cargill attacks from behind. She lays VanZant out with her Jaded Finisher, then walks off, while Banks and Phoenix stand in the ring, staring each other down. And we get a final rundown of the Full Gear card:
