AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam Night 2
Live, from Tropicana Field in Tampa, Fla.
Oct. 26, 2022
We start the show with a recap of night one of Grand Slam (link here), which saw Jake Hager win the All-Atlantic Championship from the previously undefeated Gable Steveson; the trio of Brian Cage, Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander defeated Cody Rhodes and the Young Bucks with a little help from a Jeff Jarrett guitar shot; The Outsiders defeated The Acclaimed in their AEW debut; Paige VanZant defeated Tay Melo to become the number 1 contender to the AEW Women's Championship; and the Steiners defeated Los Parks after Hall and Nash interfered, helped Steiners win and then laid them out.
Coach welcomes us to night 2, which promises to be even bigger than last week. Coach is in a Halloween costume - as a vampire. He asks Taz why he isn't dressed up, and Taz just glares at him.
We are starting hot with the UWA Women's Championship Match!
We get a video recapping Sasha Banks's nearly 10-month reign, then her draft to AEW. We see videos of Cargill winning all of her matches, including a shot at the UWA Women's Championship during the Super Card event. They finally set the match for tonight.
Match 1: UWA Women’s Championship: Sasha Banks © (2-0) vs. Jade Cargill (12-0)
Banks is wearing a Wonder Woman inspired set of tights. Cargill comes out in Catwoman tights.
Cargill gets control early and tries to keep Banks down. She tries hitting her Jaded Finisher early, but Banks has her scouted and wiggles out. She responds with a Japanese arm drag and locks in a bow and arrow. Cargill powers out, then lifts Banks up in a Gorilla Press Slam!
Banks fights back and hits a headscissors takedown, then a roundhouse kick. She locks in a Camel Clutch, which Cargill also powers out of. Banks hits a frog splash that gets 2, then she tries a variety of pinning combinations that are close calls. Finally, Cargill responds with a big clothesline. She tries for the Jaded Finisher again, but Banks reverses and hits the Bank Statement! Cargill drags Banks to the ropes to break the hold.
The pair is then fighting in the corner. Cargill lifts Banks up to the top turnbuckle. She climbs and hits a superplex off the top rope! Both competitors are down and struggling to get up. The ref starts a 10 count. He gets to 6 when music hits…and out walks Beth Phoenix! The competitors get to their knees and look confusedly at Phoenix.
Phoenix gets in the ring as both get to their feet. She clotheslines them both down! Then lifts Banks up and hits the Glam Slam. Cargill confronts Phoenix, who hits her with a forearm. Phoenix rolls out of the ring and grabs the UWA Women's Championship and leaves with it as Cargill looks on. Match ends in a double DQ at 16:21.

There’s a video recapping the feud between Jeff Cobb and Matt Riddle (The Chosen Bros) and the Beer Money duo of Bobby Roode and James Storm. Beer Money cost Cobb and Riddle in each of their title shots against Jeff Jarrett in May and June. Beer Money then defeated the Bros during July’s Summer Smash, after hitting Cobb with a case of beer. The Bros are trying to get their win back tonight in a Barstool Brawl. Four stools are stationed around the ring. After all four are used, then a team can win the match. Normal tag rules apply otherwise.
Match 2: Barstool Brawl Match: Chosen Bros (4-1) vs. Beer Money (2-0)
Matt Riddle and Jeff Cobb are dressed up like Crocket and Tubbs from Miami Vice.
Riddle and Storm kick off the match. Riddle gets a few quick kicks in, but Storm eventually overpowers him. He and Roode wear Riddle down for a little bit, until Riddle is able to get a hot tag to Cobb, who runs wild on Roode until Storm stops the momentum by hitting the first barstool into Cobb’s back. Storm hits a DWI for a nearfall that is broken up by Riddle.
The match flows like this for two more stools - Beer Money works down Cobb or Riddle, who hot tags their partner and runs wild until Beer Money uses a stool to even the odds. Eventually, Riddle hits BroDerek on Roode on the floor to put him down for a bit.
In the ring, Cobb smashes the fourth barstool into Storm’s face, then breaks it over his back. He tags Riddle in, who hops in the ring and hits a Broton on Storm for the pinfall, as Cobb kicks Roode off the apron. The Bros get the win at 12:53.

Sasha Banks is backstage, icing the back of her neck. She looks at the camera and says she doesn’t know where Beth Phoenix is coming from by attacking her and stealing the UWA Women’s Championship. Beth has made a big mistake. She’s trying to take shortcuts. And she’ll have to answer to The Boss.

Raven and Malakai Black have been on a collision course since Raven started trying to recruit House of Black member Billy Kidman into his new Flock, alongside Hook. Black has defeated Hook in the ring, helped in-part by Kidman distracting Hook by knocking Raven out. Raven & Hook defeated The Butcher and The Blade previously. Now Raven is trying to show Hook (and Kidman) that he is the leader worth following.
Match 3: Raven (4-1) w/ Hook vs. Malakai Black (9-1) w/ Billy Kidman
Raven, wearing his Clockwork Orange outfit. Black wears his animal skull mask to the ring, then removes it.
Raven goes straight for Black to start, but Black takes control with a series of strikes. Raven reverses an Irish Whip into the corner, then hits a clothesline and a bulldog. The pair exchange strikes in the ring, but Black gets the upper hand again. Raven rolls to the outside for a breather, while Black sits in the ring with his legs crossed. When Raven re-enters the ring, Black rushes him and runs straight into a drop-toe hold and an STF. Black fights out of it and turns into an Evenflow DDT. Black kicks out at 2. A little later, Black hits a snap suplex that leaves Raven hurting.
Black goes over to Kidman while the ref checks on Raven, and Kidman hands Black something. Hook gets on the apron to warn Raven about Black having a weapon. Raven turns to Hook, then around to Black, who is about to spray his mist. Raven ducks and the mist goes into Hook’s face, sending Hook falling to the floor. Raven goes to check on him, but Black twirls him around and hits the Black Mass for the win at 11:15. After the match, Raven checks on Hook, while Black and Kidman look on from the stage. Hook shoves past Raven and staggers toward the back, while Taz confronts Raven about putting Hook in danger.

Cody Rhodes and the Young Bucks are backstage, along with Brandi. She asks how he’s feeling. Cody - “I’m feeling like going out there tonight and winning the AEW World Championship. Nothing is going to stop me tonight.”

The New Day has been feuding with LAX off-and-on for months, dating back to Woods and Kingston beating Konnan up on their N64 copy of WCW/NWO Revenge. LAX got the win when the teams faced off over the summer. They wouldn’t give the New Day a rematch. Their feud continued after the New Day joined Los Parks against LAX in the Blood & Guts match. Hernandez injured Woods with a conchairto prior to that match, then tossed Kingston off the cage at Blood & Guts. Big E Langston returned at that match, then defeated Hernandez one-on-one in September. LAX finally agreed to the rematch, on the condition that if they win, they get to destroy the N64.
Match 4: The New Day (6-2) vs. LAX (4-3) (If LAX wins, they get to destroy Xavier Woods’ N64)
The New Day comes to the ring dressed like the Power Rangers.
Homicide starts the match fast against Woods, but the New Day gains control until Hernandez is tagged in. The big man runs roughshod over the New Day and hits the Border Toss early on Kington, getting a nearfall at 3 minutes that is broken up by Woods. Later, Woods hits a Shining Wizard on Homicide for a nearfall.
While Kingston and Hernandez are fighting in the ring, Konnan tries to grab Kingston’s leg, and Big E runs out to chase Konnan off. In the ring, Kingston hits the Trouble in Paradise on Hernandez, followed by the Boom Drop, and the New Day get the win at 13:11. After the match, Woods hugs Kingston and thanks him for saving his N64.

Samoa Joe was ticked after losing to Jake Hager in September. He wanted revenge on Hager, and attempted to attack during Hager’s match with a debuting Jon Moxley. Mox tried stopping Joe from costing him the win, which infuriated Joe. He smashed Mox’s head into the post and busted him open, ultimately costing him a win against Hager in his AEW debut. Mox threw down the challenge to Joe, who accepted by hitting a Ura-nage on Mox.
Match 5: Jon Moxley (1-1) vs. Samoa Joe (1-1)
Mox and Joe start hot and fast, delivering big blows against each other. Joe hit a series of quick kicks to start, then Moxley responded with punches. Mox hits a quick uppercut square to Joe’s chin, and Joe falls to the ground! He shakes the cobwebs off as the ref checks on him. Mox sits on the top turnbuckle and pretends to check his watch before hopping down and beckons Joe toward him. Joe rushes toward Mox, who hits a quick Paradigm Shift! Mox pins Joe. 1…2…3! Joe kicks out just after the 3-count and looks stunned. Mox picked up the win in 1:32.
Joe stands and jaws at the ref about a fast count. Mox says something to Joe, who responds with a forearm to the jaw. They brawl and spill to the outside, where Joe whips Mox into the ring steps. He keeps up the offensive and slams Mox’s face into the steps and busts his head open! Mox fights back and tackles Joe to the floor. Officials from the back respond and separate the two competitors.

Prior to the break, Jeff Jarrett and the Apex are meeting backstage. He tells them they know what to do. He intends to walk out of Grand Slam still the World Champion.
—
While Jeff Jarrett was winning the AEW World Championship in May, Cody Rhodes was otherwise occupied with Malakai Black. After Rhodes finally got through Black in a Dog Collar Match, he set his sights on becoming AEW World Champion. Rhodes fought through the Apex and eventually earned his shot at All Out in September. During that match, Jarrett injured his leg on the outside of the ring and Rhodes won via countout, not getting the belt. Rhodes later found out and revealed that Jarrett faked the injury. Now the title is on the line in a ladder match. The first man to grab the belt wins.
Main Event: AEW World Championship: Ladder Match: Jeff Jarrett © (8-1) vs. Cody Rhodes (8-2)
The pair squares off in the ring with some early mat wrestling, as Jarrett tries to focus on Rhodes’ legs. Jarrett hits a snap suplex, then tosses Rhodes out of the ring. He quickly goes to set up a ladder and go for the belt, but Rhodes is back in to pull Jarrett off the ladder. … Rhodes sets a ladder up in the corner and whips Jarrett into it. Splash to Jarrett breaks through the ladder!
As Rhodes starts to climb another ladder for the belt and Jarrett is down, Beer Money runs out! James Storm attacks Cody, while Bobby Roode tends to Jarrett. This brings out Matt Riddle and Jeff Cobb, who run Beer Money out. Jarrett and Rhodes battle more. Rhodes hits the Cross Rhodes, and follows that up with a moonsault! He goes for the belt again, only to bring out JBL and Shawn Spears, who tosses Rhodes from the ring. They lift Jarrett up and help him climb the ladder.
Out runs Mick Foley, dressed as Mankind and carrying a chair! He smashes Spears in the face, then JBL. Jarrett is almost to the belt, and Foley pushes the ladder over. Jarrett falls to the floor and through a table that had been set up! Rhodes is recovered now, and he and Foley battle with JBL and Spears. Foley and JBL spill into the crowd and fight through the arena, while Rhodes hits a brutal Alabama Slam on the floor onto Spears.
Rhodes starts to climb the ladder, but Jarrett is now recovered. They meet at the top and exchange punches. Jarrett gets the upper hand! He hits a swinging neckbreaker off the top of the ladder, and both are down in the ring!
Brian Cage, Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander come out to the stage next. They stay on the stage, as the Young Bucks also emerge and stand on the ramp in front of the ring. Benjamin and Alexander want to rush the Bucks, but Cage waves them off. He stands on the stage and crosses his arms, watching the match to see who his opponent will be at Full Gear.
Rhodes and Jarrett get to their feet and exchange punches. Rhodes hits the Tiger Driver ‘98 on Jarrett, then starts climbing the ladder. Before he gets to the top, Jarrett also climbs. They both grab the belt and tug back-and-forth. Rhodes hits Jarrett with a forearm to loosen his grip, then swings the belt straight into Jarrett’s face! Jarrett falls to the mat and Rhodes unhooks the belt to become AEW World Champion! Match time: 25:52. Jarrett rolls out of the ring and gathers with Spears, as they leave ringside while Rhodes celebrates with the belt and the Young Bucks, and Brandi also runs down. Rhodes breaks down in the ring, hugging the belt, while Cage looks on from the stage and the show ends.
