Superstar Saturday Episode 42
Taped at the Andy Kaufman Studios in Dothan, Alabama
Commentators: Bob Caudle and Dutch Mantel
Ring Announcer: Mike McGuirk
Interviewer: SoCal Val
Referees: Tommy Young, Aubrey Edwards and Joey Marella
Caudle and Mantel rundown the program for the day, when they’re interrupted by a surprise visit from the “Universal Champion” Nicholas Aldis. He’s flanked by Kamille York and his wife, Mickie James Aldis. Nick says when daddy isn’t home, the children think they can do whatever they want. First, he thinks Chris Jericho is a fool for putting his Universal Title shot on the line in a match against Col. DeBeers. What happened to him happened to him and life isn’t fair. For Jericho to give him a second chance just because shows he lost his brains with all that weight.
Secondly, Nick doesn’t appreciate the way his wife has been treated by the powers that be. She chirps in with “do you know who my husband is.” Of course they do, I’m standing right here. He’s talked with Col. Robert Fuller and Ivory and Mickie has been promised the final spot in the women’s Terrific Tussle at Winter Wonderland. Mickie shrilly screams how it’s a travesty that shouldn’t be happening in the first place. The Universal Women’s Title shot is her right.
They’re interrupted by another surprise visitor – “Wildfire” Tommy Rich. Aldis says Tommy has taken too many shots to the head, he doesn’t work there anymore. He’s in ETW. Well, this is his free time and he’s still got friends in the back at Continental Championship Wrestling, probably more than Aldis has. Rich recaps how Aldis invaded ETW and cost him a tag team title match. Then how he left the York Foundation and CCW of his own accord, because he didn’t like how Aldis conducted himself.
Two corrections. Aldis as the Universal Champion can go wherever he pleases whenever he pleases in the UWA. Second, Aldis kicked Rich out of the York Foundation for being a relic of the original stable they didn’t need anymore who wasn’t pulling his weight. Now, get out of his promotion.
Rich says he knows the rest of the York Foundation isn’t there today, so his only backup is his woman and his dog; and he’s not sure which is which. Kamille just looks coldly at Rich, but Mickie screams and wants to claw his eyes out. Nick backs her off, this isn’t the time or the place. Nick will choose that, not Rich.

Bob Backlund advances in the Gulf Coast Title Tournament by defeating “Borne Again” Matt Borne by submission via crossface chicken wing at 10:10. It’s mentioned how Backlund and Doink actually feuded in early 1990s WWE. Borne comes out wearing the Doink outfit, which is all dirty, but without the makeup and wig. Caudle reviews how Borne disbanded the Legion of Doinks for losing all the time, fired Ray Apollo and Steve Lombardi and Steve Keirn are now on their own as a tag team. Borne is aggressive and controls most of the way. He goes up top for the vertical butt drop, but stops himself and seems lost, like he doesn’t want to do the old Doink finisher. This allows Backlund to flip Borne off the top and then Borne stumbles up into the chicken wing.
SoCal Val is at ringside with Eddie Kingston. Who is his mystery partner? He knows she’d like to find out, so would all the fans and so would, especially, the Funk Brothers. See, even when Dory was out with a busted hand and his niece Serena wasn’t around, Terry was still playing the numbers game. It’s always two on one when Terry has that branding iron. Now a smart man might want a match without the branding iron in play. Nobody has ever accused Eddie Kingston of being a smart man. Tough as hell, sure. Determined as hell, sure. Willing to walk through the fires of hell to get at somebody, sure. Terry Funk is going to get one more shot at the CCW World Heavyweight Title at Winter Wonderland. And the stipulation…well, it’s going to feel like going through hell.

We come back from the break to find Britt Baker and Molly Holly in the ring, but Tessa Blanchard and Mickie James haven’t come out for their tag match. Bob Caudle is being told that neither woman will relent to being introduced first. Baker gets the mic and says if they won’t come out, then why don’t Molly and she give the fans a friendly wrestling contest.
The match goes a few minutes, very even and very clean. Mickie James runs out irate that the fans are getting into the match. She attacks both women and referee Aubrey Edwards throws the match out. The faces start to come back, but Tessa Blanchard runs out and attacks both faces. The heels stand tall. Blanchard eyes James hard and then walks out of the ring.

SoCal Val is at ringside with Ronnie Garvin and Billy Graham. The clip is shown of them being eliminated by Big E Langstson simultaneously in the Terrific Tussle and then fighting after. Garvin says he’s a big enough man to admit when he’s wrong. He lost his head because of the elimination and they were probably both equal to blame for Langston getting the drop of them. Garvin extends his hand to Graham. Placing blame is what losers do and Graham is no loser. And a man should admit when he’s in the wrong, but never falsely do so just to get along. Graham takes the hand and the two squeeze as hard as they can until we go to break.
Chris Candido with Sunny advances in the Gulf Coast Title tournament by defeating Pedro Morales by pinfall at 9:58. Morales has Candido in the Boston Crab, but Sunny pulls him into the ropes for the break. The referee smells something is up and questions Sunny, but this allows Candido to score a low blow. Buckle bomb leads to a snap suplex and the diving headbutt finishes.

A pre-tape has Hulk Hogan talking about the last time he faced Yokozuna at King of the Ring 1993 in WWF. A plant at ringside pretending to be photographer burned his face with a fireball. Well, brother, Hogan smells like smoke because he’s been through fire. When he laid on the studio floor on the last Wednesday Warfare, convulsing from the nerve hold the 900-pound Yokozuna clamped down on him, he had one thought and one thought only. That was to bounce back and get revenge on Yokozuna, Big Bossman and, especially, Andy Kaufman not for himself but for the 3.1 million Hulkamaniacs.
We cut to another pre-tape of Andy Kaufman still in Hollywood. He doesn’t have to be there in person to cause Hogan pain and strife. Bossman and Yokozuna are working under his direction and they know the mission. Destroy Hogan mind, body and soul and crush Hulkamania to the point where it can never rise again.

“Lionheart” Chris Jericho defeated Col. DeBeers by pinfall at 9:11 to retain his Universal Title shot. Jericho controls to start as he’s much faster and agile than DeBeers. DeBeers gets knees up on a Lionsault. DeBeers comes back and beats on Y2J for a bit. He goes for a running power slam, but Jericho slips out the back and gets a backstabber. Nick Aldis comes out and stands at ringside. Tommy Young tells him to move out. This allows Kamille York to come out from the crowd, but then Tommy Rich comes out from under the ring and spears York into the ring wall before she can do anything. Caudle and Mantel put Rich over for outsmarting the York Foundation. Jericho finishes with the Judas Effect Elbow. Aldis gets on the apron, but Rich slides into the ring and stands with Jericho. Aldis, not breaking eye contact with the two, drops off the apron and backs up with a smirk on his face. He knows what they want, but they’re not getting it.
SoCal Val is ringside with Dr. of Style, Slick. Terrific Tussle wasn’t a great night for him. He and his clients got robbed by the man like they always do. Val mentions how Hart and Smith had a sure pin on Power Station, but it got broke up with Slick’s cane. That wasn’t no thang, it was just us taking out the man first. But, he’s already got his guys a rematch at Winter Wonderland for the tag team titles. As for Atlas vs. Johnson. Tony got lucky and it won’t happen again. Stay tuned.

Yokozuna defeated “The Immortal” Hulk Hogan by pinfall at 8:13. Yoko attacks Hogan at the bell and beats him down for a bit, but Hogan makes his usual comeback. Yoko pulls Joey Marella in the way of the big boot and he goes down. Hogan hits a second big boot on Yoko. Big Bossman runs out and Hogan is ready for him, but the Bossman uses a gimmicked nightstick to shoot a fireball into Hulk’s face. He stumbles into Yoko for a body slam. Butt splash. Marella recovers and makes the count.
Sherri Martel is caught in the back reading the riot act to Col. Robert Fuller. Eli Drake gets a dominating win at Terrific Tussle to retain the Television Title and he’s not been booked for two shows. Fuller says they’re just loaded with talent right now and it’s hard to use everybody. Bull, the television champion needs to be on television. He better be booked for Wednesday Warfare or there will be trouble.

Eddie Kingston and Santana with Ortiz defeat Terry and Dory Funk at 14:01. The crowd goes ballistic when Proud and Powerful debut. The announcers mention how they’ve been associated with Kingston in the past. Terry and Dory protest, just because. Eddie and Santana jump them and everybody is brawling. Not a lot of technical stuff. Terry attacks Ortiz with the branding iron on the outside, drawing Eddie over. He produces his own branding iron out from underneath the ring, Terry is spooked by that and backs up the aisle with Eddie driving him. In the ring, Santana twists out of a butterfly suplex attempt by Dory and into a facebreaker DDT for the win.
