All four quarter-final matches in the AWA Intercontinental Tag-Team tournament took place over the weekend, and the results are as follows:
- Doom defeated Mike Awesome and Damian Priest in a powerful heel vs. heel match-up
- The Monarchy upset Demolition; Ospreay and McGuinness more than held their own, but as usual, Doom butted their nose in Demolition's business, distracting Smash long enough for the Englishmen to hit him with a combination Hidden Blade/Jawbreaker lariat
- The Midnight Express defeated PRX in what was reported to be a very competitive, high-energy match
- Badd Company defeated the North in a technical showcase that went almost 20 minutes
The semi-finals are now set, and next week on AWA All-Star Wrestling, Doom will take on the Monarchy, and the Midnight Express will battle Badd Company, with the winners of each match facing each other for the titles at AWA Autumn Bomb.

WCW changes creative team concept Shane McMahon was said to be unhappy with having a creative committee and has streamlined the operations of WCW to what is being called a “management triangle.” McMahon will be head of day to day operations and have the final say on all major decisions as the promotion owner. Bruce Prichard is head of talent relations and will have a lot of say in hirings and firings. Eddie Gilbert is head booker with input from McMahon and Prichard. Of the booking committee, Dutch Mantell was let go, Molly Holly was moved back to regular competition from being a referee, William Regal will be moved back to regular competition, Col. Robert Fuller was already acting as a manager full-time on television and Paul Jones will go back to managing as well. It’s said that some lesser storylines are being jettisoned, such as some of the female talent having OnlyFans pages and paternity issues with William Regal and Charlie Dempsey. Also, while Kurt Angle will retain “The Ultimate Olympian” nickname, he won’t dress and act like the Ultimate Warrior as originally planned. Prichard has also championed the use of regular enhancement talent instead of hiring local wrestlers. Since they will be used primarily on Thunder, Prichard is calling them “The Thundarians.” They include Gigi Dolin, Nikkita Lyons, Amber Nova, The Armstrong Brothers of Steve and Scott, Dr. Tom Prichard, Tracy Smothers and Mando Guerrero. This could also include Thom Latimer and Charlie Dempsey, but it’s unclear if they will be hanging on after their current storylines wrap. All could also appear on Nitro and Prichard said this gives them options if someone gets injured, a chance to make a new star if someone catches on with the fans and options for other situations.

MGM and United Artists Media Group has announced the return of Lucha Underground. The television program, based on the Mexican style of wrestling known as lucha libre, will mark the end of a 3-year hiatus in January 2024. Lucha Underground aired its two-part season 4 finally, Ultima Lucha Cuatro, in October and November 2023. The previous three seasons of the show ran between 32-35 episodes each, however the final season only ran 25 episodes. It was cut short due to production delays, shutdowns, and associated budget cuts that were the result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic turned the brand from a cash cow to a money sinkhole owing to lost revenues and a bloated payroll. That season of the show saw lucha libre and professional wrestling icons such as El Santo, Mil Mascaras, Blue Demon Jr., Dos Caras, Hulk Hogan, John Cena, and Roman Reigns as regulars on the cast. None of these talents are set to return in season five. In bringing Lucha Underground back for a fifth season, following a 3-year pause, executive producers Mark Burnett and Robert Rodriguez have had to make tough sacrifices when it has come to casting as post-pandemic inflation has significantly driven up salary demands. The result is a leaner, meaner season five roster of 40 luchadores and luchadoras, as compared with the 70 on staff for season four. "It was impossible to bring everyone back from season four," explains Rodriguez, known for making movies such as "From Dusk till Dawn," "Sin City," "Machete," and the "Spy Kids" series. After season four ended, the show went on an indefinite hiatus. Being based in California, where pandemic measures were more strict than the national average, it was never clear when they could continue the show while being in compliance with state law. After some time, Rodriguez said, the difficult decision was made to release all performers and production crew from their contracts to find work elsewhere. Many luchadores and wrestlers found homes in territories that were operating as they normally would thanks to the lenient pandemic measures in some of the states in which they operated. However, 3-years later, Rodriguez called Burnett for a meeting to discuss the possibility of reviving the series, finding it to be an opportune time to strike. "The recent closures of some other wrestling territories, such as the NWA and WCCW, has made it possible for Lucha Underground to fill a void in the market," said Rodriguez. "Although Ultima Lucha Cuatro wrapped so many long-term story arcs, there are a thousand more stories to tell. We just needed the perfect storm of conditions to arise for us to make this happen. Luckily it did," said Rodriguez. He added, "Timing is everything in lucha and wrestling as it is in other areas of show business, and it was now or never. We decided on 'now.'"

Looking behind the curtain after AWA's Autumn Bomb:
- AWA Owner Verne Gagne was very happy with the event, and hopes to work with the UWA Executive Committee to book the Universal champion Rick Rude on a regular basis, as Rude lives and was trained in Minnesota. - The focus on the Mid-Heavyweight division is coming from head booker Gabe Sapolsky, who introduced and utilized many smaller North American wrestlers during his time in Ring of Honor. He plans on giving them equal billing with the larger wrestlers in the AWA. - Although the Mid-Heavyweight division will be getting more attention, Gagne could not let the opportunity to sign former NWA World champions Terry Funk and Ricky Steamboat pass him by. Sapolsky is eager to work with them, although nothing is planned as of now. - Gagne has also been impressed of late with Eric Bischoff's work backstage, which may lead to additional responsibilities for the young announcer. Director of Marketing Herb Abrams had also done well recently, and the notoriously old-school owner may loosen his reigns as well. - Expect Gagne to continue to put younger wrestlers like the Rock, MJF, Bron Steiner, and others with older veterans as allies, opponents, or both. - The second AWA Pat O'Connor Memorial Cup tournament will be starting soon, with an announcement expected as soon as next week.

The return of Lucha Underground is less than a month away and news is coming out that the company intends to pick up from where it left off at the end of season four. Most if not all of its storylines came to natural conclusions at the end of season four, so season five can and will begin with a lot of fresh storylines and new plot points. That said, it has been revealed that Prince Puma will return as the Lucha Underground Champion and Pentagon DARK will return as the holder of the Gift of the Gods. Due to the programming format being more like an episodic television drama rather than a normal professional wrestling company, they can pick up right where they left off with their title reigns, in spite of the 3-year hiatus. However, plans for the Trios Championships are less certain as only one of the three final Trios Champions is remains on the roster. My source has stated that the most likely course of action will be for there to be an 8-team trios tournament to crown new champions, however Rey Misterio Jr. continuing on as a Trios Champion with two new teammates also remains a possibility.

UPW is returning the Globe Theater in Reseda on January 20th for their next spectacular showcase, "Winter Break"!
But which team will be the first to "break" in the main event, as the Undisputed Era defend their UPW Tag Team titles against the Motor City Machine Guns!?
Speaking of the Undisputed Era, at "War on Christmas" we saw Adam Cole try to put Kyle O'Reilly's UPW Undisputed Title reign on ice; will O'Reilly manage to get his belt back in his possession, or will Cole manage to leave him out in the cold?
The card for "Winter Break" is tentatively as follows:
Bandido vs. Samuray del Sol
Jamie Noble vs. Timothy Thatcher
ACH vs. Scorpio Sky vs. TJ Perkins vs. Wes Lee
Chris Hero vs. Low Ki
Cameron Grimes & Luke Harper vs. Jay Lethal & Sonjay Dutt
Davey Richards vs. Oney Lorcan
War Machine vs. London & Kendrick
Austin Aries vs. Zack Sabre Jr.
"The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
Matt Sydal vs. "Speedball" Mike Bailey
UPW Tag Team Titles Motor City Machine Guns vs. The Undisputed Era (c)
