"PWX 8: BENOIT VERSUS DYNAMITE KID"
From Scotia Bank Arena
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
10/09/2021
Welcome to "PWX 8: BENOIT VS. DYNAMITE KID"!
After the opening montage that greets the fans around the world to this exciting night of wrestling here in Toronto, ON, we head ringside, where play-by-play commentator Jimmy Smith stands in with color analyst Josh Barnett. Smith welcomes everyone to the show, and he and Barnett talks about how great it is to be here in Canada. Smith lets the fans know that this is the first time PWX has traveled internationally, and we see some photo montages of the wrestlers in various places around the city, meeting the great fans here in Canada! We go to the crowd, where we see Auston Matthews and Nick Ritchie of the Toronto Maple Leafs sitting in and they get a huge pop from the crowd here in Scotia Bank Arena!
The duo then begin to break down this epic main event coming our way this evening. Smith says that the record may be a little deceiving for Chris Benoit, as it shows he only owns one No Contest since beginning his tenure here in PWX, but that doesn't tell the story. Josh Barnett reminds us that that result was over turned and that Benoit had originally been awarded the submission victory over Olympic Gold Medalist wrestler Kurt Angle back at PWX 3. The perfect record of Dynamite Kid, however, who is sitting at 2 and 0, tells a lot of the story, according to Smith, but not all of it. Barnett says Dynamite Kid has been nearly flawless and truly vicious throughout those 2 wins, as he tore apart both Ultimo Dragon and Sabu in very hard fought contests. He says Dynamite Kid has shown his grit and he doesn't seem to care about life, limb, or his or his opponent's well being. All he cares about is winning, and he has been doing so with bad intentions. Smith says he cannot wait for this match, and Barnett says stylistically it really doesn't get any better or more even than this.
Jimmy Smith then sends things over to Dasha Gonzalez, who is standing on a platform next to the top of the entrance ramp. She greets the fans in attendance, as well as at home, and then sends things over to a video package. The video shows her speaking with Benoit and Dynamite Kid, asking them a variety of questions as we get montage footage of both their training for this match and previous matches. Benoit says he has all of the respect in the world for Dynamite Kid, and has looked up to him his entire career. He says Dynamite Kid has shown a lot of killer instinct since coming to PWX, and he says he loves it and would want it no other way. He wants a fight in there, a proper war in the ring, but even if he respects Dynamite Kid, he's out to make him squeal and tap in the Crossface. Dynamite Kid says that Benoit is a pretty good hand and has great intensity, but he's not as smart, daring, or innovative as the Dynamite Kid, and he sure as hell isn't as explosive. Dynamite Kid says he's going to teach Benoit a lesson and he's going to hurt him bad if he has to.
After the video package ends, we then get a graphic introducing our officiating team for the evening: senior official Teddy Long, Mike Chioda, Jim Korderas, and Brian Hebner. Jimmy Smith then directs us to the ring, where Tony Chimel is standing in, ready to introduce the first competitors of the evening.
MATCH ONE
STANDARD RULES
1 Fall, 10 Minute Time Limit
Andrade (0-0) vs. Drew Gulak (0-0)
Referee: Jim Korderas
Gulak was very aggressive and put on a great technical display, but Andrade is no slouch. Andrade showed great charisma and resilience in this match, and his timing was impeccable. Gulak really tried to push the pace, but Andrade stayed patient and managed to deliver a Judas Elbow to knock Gulak out in a flash for a three count. The fans were jumping on their feet for that one, as Barnett noted how nice the connection was as Andrade caught Gulak on the button with the spinning back elbow.
Winner by Pinfall: Andrade
MATCH TWO
X DIVISION RULES
1 Fall, 10 Minute Time Limit, No Holds Barred, No Count Outs
"The Cleaner" Kenny Omega (0-0) vs. Brian Kendrick (0-0)
Referee: Mike Chioda
Jimmy Smith points out that Kendrick is a former trainee of Shawn Michaels at the Texas Wrestling Academy, and Omega has an impending match with Michaels scheduled for November 25th at PWX 9 on The Paramount Network! Kendrick would try to throw Omega off with quick hitting offense, sending Omega out of the ring with a Spinning Wheel Kick early on. Kendrick would get a little overzealous flying out of the ring, however, and ended up smashing into the guard rail where Omega was supposed to be. Omega made him pay for his mistake, delivering a V Trigger into the railing. Back in the ring, Omega delivers another V Trigger, and the match is over. Three count for "The Cleaner".
Winner by Pinfall: Kenny Omega
Dasha Gonzalez makes her way into the ring and congratulates Kenny, who gets a positive reaction from his native Canadian crowd. "Thank you, Dasha. It was a fortuitous evening for 'The Cleaner'... but my greatest fortunes lay ahead. Shawn Michaels... 'The Heartbreak Kid'... will learn of... terrible 'heartbreak' and loss when he steps in the ring with 'The Cleaner' on November 25th. PWX 9, Shawn... Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. You're mind has been focused on my partner in The Elite, Cody Rhodes. You've been dreaming of your chance to get your revenge over the man who bested you at PWX 5. But those dreams will never... ever be realized. I will do you a kindness, Shawn. You saw how I handled your young pupil tonight? I will do the same for you. A mercy killing. A soft landing into the darkness, crushing your dreams. A mercy, a kindness you don't deserve, but one I will grant you all the same. Because your dreams will lead you right back at the feet of 'The American Nightmare', and much like Jeff Hardy will find out tonight, that is no place anybody would want to be. So until we meet again, Shawn... Goodbye and Goodnight." Finger gun, BANG, the fans are into it as Omega poses for the camera. Jimmy Smith is sure Shawn Michaels will not be a gracious recipient of Kenny Omega's so-called "mercy" as we move to the next match.
MATCH THREE
STANDARD RULES
1 Fall, 15 Minute Time Limit
"The Whole F'N Show" Rob Van Dam (0-0) vs. Shelton Benjamin (0-0)
Referee: Brian Hebner
After two pretty quick bouts to start the show, we had a real back and forth struggle here. RVD started with many of the fans behind him, but Shelton Benjamin earned everybody's respect and praise tonight. Benjamin gave "The Whole F'N Show" all that he could handle here, as he worked him out hard on the mat and then showed his athleticism by getting a two count off of a Springboard Clothesline. Van Dam would show his ability to change the tide quickly using his kicking prowess, and then really rocked Benjamin with a Standing Moonsault and then his Rolling Thunder. Benjamin would get a near fall after a T-Bone Suplex and would seemingly get a little frustrated. Benjamin would go up top, but RVD would run and jump, delivering a kick to send Benjamin flying off the top to outside, smashing into the guardrail! Van Dam would follow Benjamin out and send him back in, and would deliver a Flying Thrust Kick off the top rope. The fans would get on their feet and chant "ROB! VAN! DAM!" as RVD did his signature pose and then headed up top. Van Dam then flies off the top...
FIVE STAR FROG SPLASH! Huge pop from the crowd as they count along with Brian Hebner's count, and RVD has a successful debut here in PWX!
Winner by Pinfall: Rob Van Dam
MATCH FOUR
TAG TEAM RULES
1 Fall, 20 Minute Time Limit
The Hart Dynasty: Tyson Kidd / Davey Boy Smith, Jr. (0-0) vs. The American Wolves: Davey Richards / Eddie Edwards (0-0)
Referee: Jim Korderas
The fans were behind The Hart Dynasty in a big way, as they cheered on their Canadian brethren. Kidd and Smith really seemed to feed off of this, while Richards and Edwards had no problem playing the bad guys here. Richards and Edwards would cut off the smaller Kidd for the first few minutes of the match and really put a beating on him, mocking the crowd as they did so to build the heat. Kidd would manage to kick out for a Brainbuster from Edwards and then made a break to get the hot tag to Smith, who came in like a house of fire to the roar of the crowd! Smith would show his power and brawling, and cleared The Wolves from the ring. Smith would reach through the ropes and pull Edwards back up to the apron and then bring him back into the ring with an Indoor Suplex, but he would hold in in the air for a solid 10 seconds, shades of his father, The British Bulldog, before taking him down to the mat. Smith would go for the cover but Richards would break it up and then pull Edwards to his corner for the tag. Richards would deliver a kicking combination to Smith and then try to lift him, but Smith would reverse it and deliver a Powerslam! Smith grabs Richards into a Bearhug and then walks over to Kidd, who slaps his back to tag in. Kidd springboards and hits the Hart Attack! Because Richards made the save earlier in the match, The Wolves had exhausted their one save of the match and Kidd was able to pin Richards for the three count! The crowd thoroughly approved, as Smith noted the loud reaction for these two in their successful debut!
Winners by Pinfall: The Hart Dynasty
MATCH FIVE
X DIVISION RULES
1 Fall, 30 Minute Time Limit, No Holds Barred, No Count Outs
"The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes (2-0) vs. Jeff Hardy (0-0)
Referee: Mike Chioda
The fans were behind Jeff Hardy in a big way here, as they both love "The Charismatic Enigma" and utterly despise "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes. Rhodes loves to be hated, though, and it shows, as he soaks in the hate of the Canadian crowd. One sign in the crowd reads, "DUSTY WOULD BE ASHAMED!" Rhodes would try to keep things grounded early, but Hardy would begin landing big shots and things would get fun, as Rhodes and Hardy both tumbled to the outside after a clothesline from Hardy sends them over the ropes! Hardy gets back up on the apron and then flies off with a Leg Lariat to Cody, and both men then tumble into the crowd over the railing! Hardy grabs a chair on the outside and throws it at Rhodes, smashing him over the head and sending him back over the railing once more, and the fans are chanting, "HARDY! HARDY! HARDY!" as he the Cameron, North Carolina native is giving this everything he's got! Barnett says Rhodes looks completely rocked, as Rhodes is now bleeding from his forehead. Hardy goes to the high risk well again, leaping up onto the guardrail and trying to fly onto Rhodes at ringside, but Rhodes manages to dodge it and grab Hardy, sending him chest first into the ring steps!
Cody grabs Hardy and delivers a Russian Legsweep right into the guardrail, and Smith says Rhodes has begun to punish Hardy now. Rhodes chokes Hardy with his shin against the railing, and referee Mike Chioda has to warn Rhodes to let Hardy go or he was going to throw out the match. "The American Nightmare", blood streaking down his face, calmly walks over and grabs the timekeeper's chair. Hardy is pulling himself up on the steps, and Rhodes smacks him to the spine with the chair, and the crowd groans. Rhodes then grabs Hardy by the hair and pulls him in and lifts up, tossing him right on the steps again with an Inverted Suplex! Everybody is cringing now, and then the boos begin again as "CODY SUCKS!" chants pick up. Cody grabs the chair and tosses it into the ring nonchalantly, as he is feeling very confident now. Cody rolls Hardy into the ring. Hardy gets to his knees and throws a right and a left, flailing, but Cody sends a straight kick to Hardy's face, sending him down to the mat in a heap.
Rhodes grabs Hardy by the hair and lifts him up, pulling him in and delivering a DDT onto the steel chair! Rhodes sits with a sadistic, sociopathic look on his face as Hardy appears to be dead on the mat. Smith says he hopes this is over. Rhodes covers. One, two, t- NO! Rhodes pulls him back up! Mike Chioda yells at Cody, and warns him. Cody doesn't seem to care. He hasn't something else in mind. Cody grabs the ring canvas as the fans are booing and some actually throwing debris into the ring now. CODY HAS EXPOSED THE WOOD UNDER THE MAT! Smith yells out, "WHAT IS HE TRYING TO PROVE! JUST PIN THE MAN!" Hardy, to his credit, is trying to get back up. Cody is watching as Hardy grabs the ropes and pulls himself up, doubled over and holding the middle rope with both hands. Cody runs up behind him and PUNT KICKS HIM BETWEEN THE LEGS!
Hardy is back on the mat, writhing in pain, as Cody looks down at him with a cold look on his face. Barnett proclaims, "This is what makes Cody 'The American Nightmare'... he isn't in there to win a match. He's in there to end another human being." Rhodes picks up Hardy again by the hair and drags him over to the exposed wood. Chioda is instructing Rhodes to pin Hardy and end the match, but Rhodes is refusing, as he appears to be setting Hardy up for a piledriver. Chioda has seen enough, throwing his body into Cody to break up the hold and he waves his hand, instructing the timekeeper to ring the bell, he has seen enough.
No Contest
After the match, Mike Chioda gets in Cody's face and says he never wants to see anything like that again, and that when he gives him instructions he needs to follow them! Cody takes one last look at Hardy and then walks off, saying nothing to the referee, as he doesn't seem to care. Dasha stops Cody at the top of the ramp and asks him why he didn't just beat Jeff Hardy as the fans boo and chant vulgarities at Rhodes. "I have been sending a message to the fans, the office, and all of the boys here in PWX every single time I step into the ring. From the sounds of things-" Cody stops and turns as if to present the crowd to Dasha, "- the message has been delivered, loud and clear. I am 'The American Nightmare', and I don't care about your feelings, or your conventions, or anything else, for that matter. I am here to inflict pain on my opponents. I am here to humiliate, decimate, and dominate every one in my way. You hate me? Good. The boys don't like it? Maybe they should do something about it. I've put down two thirds of the Kliq. I've put down Jeff Hardy. Who's next? I tell you what I want next, Dasha. I think I've set the standard here for the X Division. I've shown everybody what it could be. Just how brutal it can and should be. I've taken everybody's best shots, but nobody has been able to get up from mine. I want the X Division title, and I dare any man to step into that ring with me and try to stop me from taking it." And with that, Cody is greeted by his Elite teammates on the entrance ramp and they pose before heading back to the locker room area.
MATCH SIX
STANDARD RULES
1 Fall, 30 Minute Time Limit
"The Canadian Crippler" Chris Benoit (0-0-1NC) vs. Dynamite Kid (2-0)
Referee: Teddy Long
Dynamite Kid sets the tone early, as he shoves Benoit early. Benoit gets in Dynamite's face, so Dynamite slaps him, and then they begin trading blistering chops! The fans are pretty worn down from booing Cody earlier, but they seem to be coming around for this massive main event. Dynamite starts kicking Benoit low, backing him into the corner, but Benoit reveres it and presses Dynamite into the corner and Teddy Long breaks it up. Dynamite has a pep in his step getting out of the corner and shoots for Benoit's leg, taking him down. The two trade holds on the mat before getting tangled into a collar and elbow, with Benoit yelling out and pushing Dynamite back into the ropes and to the floor! The fans cheer as Benoit adjusts his tights and then throws up a fist, getting chants from the crowd as Dynamite regroups on the outside. Barnett points out that Dynamite looks a little flustered there, but is showing his smarts by regaining his composure before heading back in to reengage "The Canadian Crippler".
Dynamite kid gets up to the apron and then through the ropes and "The Rabid Wolverine" is right back on him, kicking Dynamite with left boots and then sending chops into the British standouts chest. Dynamite grabs a headlock and then takes down Benoit, and both men trade reversals on the mat. Back to their feet, Dynamite leaps up and grabs a headscissors on Benoit and takes him down. Both men are back up and Dynamite runs and delivers a shoulder tackle to Benoit, and now it is Benoit who is sent through the ropes and he hits the outside hard! Benoit picks himself and is stumbling. Dynamite doesn't wait around in the ring like Benoit did, however, as he runs up the buckles and then flips to the outside with reckless abandon, crashing both men into the railing! Barnett comments that Dynamite Kid may have hurt himself more than Benoit with that dive, as he seemed to hit his head hard on the floor after making contact.
Both men manage to make it back to their feet, and it's Dynamite Kid back on the attack, raking at the face and eyes of Benoit! Teddy Long hops out of the ring and pulls Dynamite off, warning him he will be disqualified if he goes near the eyes of Benoit again. Dynamite puts up his hands submissively before launching into more kicks on Benoit's midsection. Dynamite then grabs Benoit and sends him back into the ring. Benoit stumbles to his feet and Dynamite Kid springboards in, delivering a Front Dropkick to take Benoit back down to the mat. Dynamite makes the cover, but just a two count. Dynamite clamps on with the headlock, and he's trying to take the life out of Benoit. Benoit manages to get back to his feet and sends elbows into the midsection of Dynamite, leading Dynamite to elbow the back of Benoit's head. Benoit barrels a shoulder into Dyanmite Kid's midsection, sending him into the buckles hard and then unloads more knife edged chops. Benoit then grabs Dynamite Kid and takes him over with a Snap Suplex, floating over and getting a two count.
Benoit grabs Dynamite by the waist and he looks like he wants to hit a German Suplex, but Dynamite leaps and rolls, pulling Benoit into a pinning combination for a two count! Both men are back up and Dynamite takes Benoit down with a headlock takedown, but Benoit manages to reverse again. More back and forth on the mat, and Benoit is able to get ahold of a rear waistlock... DEADLIFT GERMAN SUPLEX! Dynamite Kid was dumped on the back of his head hard as Benoit shows his sheer power and tenacity, and Benoit covers for a two count.
CRIPPLER CROSSFACER! Benoit is trying to lock in the Crippler Crossface, but Dynamite rolls through and pulls Benoit into an Oklahoma Roll pin attempt for a two count. Dynamite has the rear waist lock now. Benoit attempts to back elbow to break free, but Dynamite ducks it and hooks him into a Bridging Northern Lights Suplex! Another two count! Dynamite is quick to lock on a Butterfly hold on the mat. Dynamite delivers a series of knees on the mat and picks up Benoit, pulls him over with a Double Underhook Suplex, and he floats it over into a pin attempt, but Benoit manages to bridge out, yelling as he does so and the fans are chanting for Benoit! Smith says he is showing pure grit here tonight!
Dynamite grabs up Benoit and tries to whip him off the ropes, but Benoit reverses it and pulls the British star into a short arm hooking clothesline, and the fans pop huge! Benoit grabs Dynamite Kid and hooks him in, and the fans are excited as he delivers a BEAUTIFUL Fisherman's Suplex... but Dynamite kicks out at two! Benoit catches his breath as he sees Dynamite Kid pulling himself up. Benoit goes back to the Rear Waistlock, but Dynamite blocks it, only to have Benoit quickly adjust and grab on a full nelson... DRAGON SUPLEX! BRIDGING DRAGON SUPLEX!
ONE, TWO, THRE- NO! DYNAMITE KID KICKS OUT AT TWO!
Benoit can't believe it. Benoit calls for the end with his signature throat slash, and he heads up top as Dynamite Kid still lays on the mat. Benoit is a step slow getting to the top, and Dynamite Kid bursts up, showing his explosiveness and catches Benoit with an inside elbow. Dynamite grabs Benoit into a Double Underhook again, delivering a SUPER DOUBLE UNDERHOOK SUPLEX! Both men are down, and these fans are on their feet, stomping and cheering, as they are loving this action! Jimmy Smith says he wishes he could just sit back and watch this one, as he allows the fans reaction to really resonate. Dynamite Kid rolls to the apron and pulls himself up. He heads top the top as Benoit hasn't moved. Dynamite is up top and he leaps off...
Benoit moves out of the way and Dynamite Kid eats the canvas! The fans are leaping and cheering, and Benoit snares on the Crippler Crossface! Barnett points out how much damage Dynamite Kid has taken to his head and neck tonight, and missing the headbutt was huge. Dynamite Kid is trying to get to the ropes, fighting with all of his might, but Benoit cranks back, yelling out, giving it everything he has and Dynamite is tapping. He can't take any more and the fans are chanting "BENOIT! BENOIT! BENOIT!"
Winner by Submission: Chris Benoit
After the match, Dasha Gonzalez is in the ring to congratulate on Chris Benoit on his hard fought victory. Benoit says this victory means everything to him, as there is nobody he respects more in the ring than Dynamite Kid, and he worked so hard to get this win tonight. Dasha asked Chris what he sees himself doing next here in PWX, and Chris says he either wants a title match or he wants to avenge that blemish on his record and make crybaby Kurt tap out properly. The fans like both of those ideas as the shows goes to a close.
