"PWX 7: PUNK VERSUS BLACK"
From The Credit Union 1 Arena
Chicago, Illinois
10/02/2021
Welcome to "PWX 7: PUNK VS. BLACK"!
After the opening montage that greets the fans around the world to this exciting night of wrestling here in Chicago, IL, we head ringside, where play-by-play commentator Jimmy Smith stands in with color analyst Josh Barnett. Smith welcomes everyone to the show, and he and Barnett get right into talk about the main event tonight. Smith points out that Black asked for this match, and Punk accepted. Barnett feels like this was a smart move for Malakai Black, as he feels he matches up very well with Punk. Barnett says he isn't sure Punk can match Black in striking, and Black may actually be the better mat grappler. It could come down to heart and toughness, which we know Punk has plenty of, but will he have enough?
Also on the card tonight we have "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels taking on The Elite's "Hangman" Adam Page! Smith reminds us that the last time we saw Michaels in action it was against Page's partner, Cody Rhodes, who took Michaels out with a DDT on the exposed concrete floor, leading to a concussion and match stoppage. Michaels has made it known that he wants another shot at Rhodes and wants to rip through The Elite to get there. Barnett says that Michaels is one of the best athletes to ever grace the squared circle, and he has that side kick to the jaw he likes to call Sweet Chin Music that he pull off out of nowhere to end a match at any time. However, Barnett says Page is also a great athlete with a lot of explosive offense, and he isn't going to be an easy night out for "The Showstopper", that's for sure!
Jimmy Smith then sends things over to Dasha Gonzalez, who is standing on a platform amongst the fans. She then sends things over to a video package, which shows her speaking with Punk and Black, asking them a variety of questions as we get montage footage of both their training for this match and previous matches. Punk informs the viewers that Black just wants to be him, and he isn't going to have any problem silencing him or any of the pundits who think Black actually has a chance of winning tonight. Black maintains that Punk is nothing but a phony and a charlatan, and he is going to expose him tonight and show the world he is a true fighter, and says he will take Punk to the deepest waters of his career and drown him there.
After the video package ends, we then get a graphic introducing our officiating team for the evening: senior official Earl Hebner, Charles Robinson, Tim White, and Chad Patton. Jimmy Smith then directs us to the ring, where Tony Chimel is standing in, ready to introduce the first competitors of the evening.
MATCH ONE
STANDARD RULES
Chris Hero (0-1) vs. Dominik Dijakovic (0-0)
Referee: Charles Robinson
Hero would try to use his technical wrestling prowess early to wear down the bigger Dijakovic, but Dijakovic proved too tough to keep down. Things would turn into a brawl, as both men tried to give the other their best shot, and the fans were all for it! Dijakovic would deliver a Rolling Big Boot, smashing Hero across the face and sending him inside out to take complete control of the contest. From there, Dijakovic would deliver his always impressive Feist Your Eyes finisher, knocking Hero down and out for the three count in a commanding debut.
Winner by Pinfall: Dominik Dijakovic
MATCH TWO
STANDARD RULES
Buddy Murphy (0-0) vs. Matt Riddle (2-0)
Referee: Tim White
Buddy Murphy was looking to make a big impression here in his debut, but he ran into a road block that calls himself "The King of Bros". The fans were firmly behind Riddle throughout the match, but Murphy was able to earn their respect with a strong showing here. Murphy has a great repertoire of offense, including power moves and knee strikes that left Riddle staggering and nearly down for the count on a few occasions, but Riddle was able to persevere. Riddle would escape a Canadian Back Rack and deliver a Jumping Roundhouse Kick to take Murphy down, but miscalculated a Flatoing Bro attempt that saw Murphy get his knees up to reverse it. Murphy would attempt to deliver Murphy's Law, but Riddle would reverse it and hit a Bicycle Knee Strike, followed by his Bro Derek to smash Murphy into the mat and put him down for the three count.
Winner by Pinfall: Matt Riddle
After the match, Dasha Gonzalez hits the ring to interview Riddle. Dahsa congratulates him on his victory and points out that he is now 3-0. She asks Riddle if he would like to call out anybody specifically for his next match. Riddle gives credit to Murphy for a hell of a match, and says he knows another guy who likes to fight that is calling for a match himself.
"Damian Priest... BRO! You want to step up, you want a fight, bro!? 3 and 0 versus 3 and 0... let's fuckin' go!"
The fans here in Chicago love that idea, as Dasha thanks Riddle and he walks off with a big smile on his face as the fans cheer him to the back.
MATCH THREE
X DIVISION RULES
MJF (1-0) vs. Ricochet (0-1)
Referee: Chad Patton
Before the match, MJF takes the microphone and says this is a miscarriage of justice! He says not only should he not have to face this reprobate Ricochet, who already beat fair and square at the last show... but he has to do it in Chicago!? He says he has his legal team trying to figure out his contract situation right now, because there is no way this is legal, and it should be illegal for anyone to have to step foot in this hellhole of a city! He says this place should be walled off, the highways cut off, and they should be left for dead from polite society, but instead they are spoiled, because tonight, they get to see the greatest to ever lace 'em up, MJF, live and in the flesh, beat Ricochet ONCE AGAIN, and leave no doubt in anybody's mind that he should be the face of PWX!
Ricochet has a microphone and says, "Shut the hell up, homeboy!" getting a big cheer from the crowd, who are already chanting "ASSHOLE!" in MJF's direction! Ricochet says that MJF isn't going to be the face of anything, because tonight, he's going to rip his face off his little cowardly body and leave him in a heap in the ring... and nobody will ever forget the night Ricochet stepped foot in Chicago. The fans are now chanting Ricochet as he takes off his ring vest and throws it at MJF as the bell sounds, temporarily blinding him as the match begins.
Ricochet is able to take advantage of MJF fighting with his vest over his head momentarily to inflict some early damage. Ricochet really takes it to MJF in the early minutes of this match, showing his striking ability and making MJF not only pay for his mouth, but also for his cheap antics that earned him the victory at PWX 6. Ricochet would actually scoop MJF up on the floor and it looked like he might be trying to use the Tombstone Piledriver on MJF like MJF did to him at the last show, but Friedman managed to escape and deliver a Reverse DDT on the ramp to change the tide. Back in the ring, MJF locks on the Fujiwara Armbar, but Ricochet gets to the ropes to break it. MJF protests, but gets caught with more big punches and kicks from Ricochet, leading to MJF utilizing a thumb to the eye to stop things. Josh Barnett points out that in a Standard Rules match that would cause the referee to stop the action and allow Ricochet to recover, but because this is an X Division match, Ricochet will get no such time and MJF takes full advantage. MJF chokes Ricochet on the ropes, and then delivers a Hammerlock DDT, but Ricochet manages to kick out at two!
MJF shows his frustration, yelling at Chad Patton and telling the fans to "SHUT THE HELL UP!" as they boo and jeer him mercilessly. MJF delivers a Single Arm DDT and tries to lock on the Fujiwara Armbar once more, but Ricochet rolls through it and delivers a Soccer Kick to MJF's face, followed by a Standing Corkscrew Moonsault for a two count! Ricochet lifts MJF on his shoulders and tries for the Recoil, but MJF blocks it and grabs his leg, trying for something, but Ricochet manages to roll through and rolls up MJF into a small package! Patton is down and he makes the three count right before MJF can kick out, and Ricochet has done it! Ricochet gets the win, and MJF is beside himself as the fans roar in approval!
Winner by Pinfall: Ricochet
MATCH FOUR
TAG TEAM RULES
The Eliminators: Saturn / Kronus (2-0) vs. The Undisputed Era: Kyle O'Reilly / Bobby Fish (1-0)
Referee: Charles Robinson
This was a very gritty, hard hitting contest. Both teams would keep the pace high, which lead to this being a short contest, but it packed a lot of action and near falls. The Eliminators looked like they might be the favorites coming in, as they have a clear size and power advantage. However, it was the speed and cohesion of the Undisputed Era that proved too much for The Eliminators to handle. O'Reilly and Fish won over a lot of fans tonight, as they showed their amazing ability to string moves together and pack a hell of a punch, leading to a whopping Chasing the Dragon on Kronus that saw O'Reilly get the pinfall victory for his team.
Winners by Pinfall: The Undisputed Era
Fish and O'Reilly both get on the ropes and motion for Dasha Gonzalez to get in the ring. Dasha is smiling and congratulates them, and they thank her, but Bobby Fish has an announcement. Fish says they just beat one of the best tag teams and there is no doubt in their minds they need to be in the match at PWX 9 for the tag team titles. O'Reilly says he thinks he knows who their opponents are going to be, but it doesn't matter who it is, because they are going to take them out and they are going to prove once again why they are UNDISPUTED!
MATCH FIVE
X DIVISION RULES
"Hangman" Adam Page (0-0) vs. "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels (1-1)
Referee: Chad Patton
Before the match, Cody Rhodes and Kenny Omega could be seen walking out to the top of the ramp with Adam Page, prepping him for the match and giving him encouragement. Barnett points out that Page looks very focused, as he doesn't seem to stir at all as the fans erupt at the sounds of HBK's music, and Barnett says he feels like Page has come here to make a name for himself tonight. Page proves just that, as he takes the match right to Michaels, but Michaels is no slouch, he has a lot of fire behind his jabs and kicks tonight, as he is a man on a mission. Page executes a huge reversal midway through the match; Michaels goes to the top while Page is on the outside, looking for the Moonsault to the floor, but "Hangman" gets to the apron and shoves him off, sending Michaels flying face first into the announcer's table! Page then heads to the top and he is the one who manages to execute the Moonsault to the floor on Michaels, smashing him on the outside and actually getting a nice pop from the Chicago crowd!
Rhodes can then be seen on the top of the ramp again, and he motions for Adam Page as the fans boo. He mimes a headlock and tells Page to finish him off! Page smiles and stomps HBK before grabbing the padding, and Jimmy Smith yells out "NO! DON'T DO IT, ADAM! DON'T DO IT!" as the fans boo! After exposing the floor, Page grabs Michaels by the hair and pulls him into a Front Facelock, but this time HBK drops to a knee and low blows Page! The fans erupt! HBK then grabs Page and delivers a Snap Suplex, sending him back first into the conrete and the fans are chanting, "H-B-K! H-B-K!" as Cody and Kenny look frazzled on the top of the ramp. Michaels grabs Page by the hair and looks to send him back into the ring, but "Hangman" shows his grit and grabs HBK by the face and rakes his eyes. Michaels is hurting and Page sends him shoulder first into the turnpost with a shove to the back, sending Michaels to the ground hard.
Page takes his time, working the crowd and getting them heated, before stomping Michaels into the ground. Page grabs Michaels and sends a knee into his midsection before sending him back into the ring. "Hangman" hops up onto the apron and motions to the crowd with his hands, telling them to bring it on, and they are chanting obscenities in his direction. Michaels is pulling himself up on the ropes before stumbling backwards. "Hangman" slingshots himself into the ring with a flip, and he's looking for the BUCKSHOT LARIA- NO!
SWEET CHIN MUSIC! SWEET CHIN MUSIC OUT OF NOWHERE!
Michaels hooks the near leg, and it's all over! Patton makes the count and the crowd goes crazy!
Winner by Pinfall: Shawn Michaels
After the match, Kenny Omega gets on the microphone from the top of the ramp and tells everybody to "SHUT UP! JUST SHUT UP!" and he's getting boos now as he looks on, emotionally unhinged. He says Michaels barely made it past Adam Page by some fluke... but Omega says at PWX 9, he wants a piece of the "The Showstopper" and when Michaels gets in the ring with the "Best Bout Machine" it's going to be "GOODBYE AND GOODNIGHT, BANG!"
Michaels calls for the microphone and simply says he will gladly kick his head off, and then he's going to give Cody the receipt he deserves. Cody wiggles his fingers in front of him, mocking HBK by sarcastically looking scared before saying, "Yeah right..." off camera, and they take off backstage.
MATCH SIX
STANDARD RULES
CM Punk (2-0) vs. Malakai Black (1-1)
Referee: Earl Hebner
The main event is here, and these fans absolutely erupt for CM PUNK! Chicago has the roof about to blow off the Credit Union 1 arena as "The Best in the World" makes his way to the ring, but Malakai Black shows no emotion. Black is here to do a job, and he has a very clear mission in mind. Once the bell sounds, we have a stare down between these two men, as Punk smiles and tells Black to bring it on. Black makes his way forward and then obliges, slapping Punk right across the face, and the crowd erupts, as these two start trading blows!
Punk tries to keep Black down and neutralized, which Josh Barnett says is a very smart strategy, as he had pointed out earlier in the night that Malakai Black's striking may be superior to Punk's and he thinks it is wise for Punk to try out Black's meddle on the mat. Black proves to be very sound on the mat, and this match sees each man taking over control back and forth. Punk goes for headlocks, while Black focuses on the left leg of Punk. The fans are on their seats, as they cheer everything Punk does, while booing any time Black seems to take the advantage.
Black is able to get things back to standing and sends Punk to the outside after a legsweep and a dropkick. Black then leaps over the turnbuckle and onto the apron before flying to the outside with a Moonsault from the middle turnbuckle! Black lands in a cross legged sitting position as Punk squirms on the floor, and the fans have to applaud that! Black goes back on the attack on the outside, sending more kicks and strikes into Punk's body before sending him flipping into the ring steps with an Irish whip, and Punk looks to be in trouble!
Back in the ringside, Black tries to come off the top with a Double Stomp, but Punk rolls out of the way. Punk manages to catch Black with a drop toe hold into the turnbuckles, and then takes him down with a Bulldog for a two count. Punk grabs both of Black's arms and lifts him, delivering the WELCOME TO CHICAGO, MOTHERFUCKER, and the fans go nuts for the backbreaker variation! Punk goes for another cover, but just a two count! Punk bodyslams Black and points to the top turnbuckle. Punk goes up top and he signals for it. He's looking for the Macho Elbowdrop, but Black reverses it and he locks on a Cross Armbar! Barnett points out this is a similar reversal that Punk used to defeat Will Ospreay, but Punk manages to get to the ropes. Black hurries and grabs Punk, and lifting him and delivering a Brainbuster, but still just a two count!
Black is calling for the end, as he measures up Punk. He puts his index finger to his lips, shushing the fans, but they just grow louder. Punk staggers to his feet and Black tries for the Black Mass, but Punk ducks and spins around himself, connecting with a Spinning Back Chop to Black's neck! Black is staggered into the ropes. Punk grabs him into a Hammerlock...
PEPSI TWIST! THE FANS ARE GOING NUTS! Punk immediately transitions into the Anaconda Vise, and Black is in big trouble! Punk has been working the neck and head of Black all match with headlocks and strikes, and Black looks completely worn down... and he's had enough. Black limply taps out on Punk's arm, as he looks like he is losing consciousness. CM PUNK GETS THE SUBMISSION WIN!
Winner by Submission: CM Punk
After the match, CM Punk grabs the microphone and he begins to address the crowd when somebody comes over the railing! Punk looks shocked and confused and moves closer to the situation. Security are fighting with this person and they have him by both arms. The camera catches a look at his face, and it's BRIAN PILLMAN!
The fans are actually popping big for this, as Jimmy Smith comments that it appears a wrestler from another promotion is trying to get air time on the best wrestling show in the world. Josh Barnett says they shouldn't be surprised, given how great the action was tonight. The fans are chanting, "PILLMAN! PILLMAN! PILLMAN!" as Brian is yelling out!
"PUNK! JUST LET ME GET A PICTURE! I JUST WANT A PICTURE WITH CM PUNK!!! A REAL WRESTLING STAR!!!"
Security drag Pillman to the back and Punk just looks around, mic still in his hand. He finally says, "Well, that happened. Uh, I forget what I was going to say, so.... GO BLACKHAWKS!" Punk kind of shrugs and smiles before leaving the ring. The fans cheer and start chanting "CM PUNK!" again as the show comes to an end.
