The show began with the new WWE Universal Champion – STING! – coming to the ring for an interview with “Mean” Gene Okerlund. His interview was interrupted by Paul Heyman, representative of former WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, who informed Sting that his reign at WWE Universal Champion will only last a couple of weeks because Reigns has exercised his rematch clause. At Extreme Rules, in an extreme rules match, where anything goes, Sting will have to defend the title against the most feared individual to ever step into the ring, the Tribal Chief Roman Reigns!
AMERICAN ALPHA vs. THE BAR : Cesaro executed a diving European uppercut on Jason Jordan that turned him around and right into a Brogue Kick from Sheamus. Cesaro knocked Chad Gable off the ring apron with a running European uppercut as Sheamus pinned Jordan for the 3-count. (13:18) -- Winners by Pinfall: The Bar
Mean Gene caught up with Ember Moon and Toni Storm, who have done well as a tag team in sporadic appearances. However, both women expressed a desire to get a shot at Rhea Ripley’s WWE Women’s Championship. They agreed to have a match next week to find out who most deserved a shot at the gold.
JOHNNY GARGANO vs. CHUCK PALUMBO : Johnny Gargano slipped free from a running powerslam attempt and took Palumbo off his feet with a pair of superkicks and a step-up enzuigiri while Palumbo was on his knees. He applied the Garga-No-Escape to get the submission win. Johnny “The Bull” tried to attack him after the match, but Gargano escaped. (5:14) -- Winner by Submission: Johnny Gargano
FIRE & FLAVA vs. BIG SWOLE & KILYNN KING : Tasha Steelz executed the OKURRR! (a cutter) on KiLynn King and Kiera Hogan followed that with a springboard moonsault to get the win. As Fire & Flava were celebrating, Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax appeared for the first time. They came to the ring and wrecked both teams. They took the mic and announced that the WWE women’s division has hereby been put on notice that Baszler and Jax are going straight to the top and everyone who tries to get in their way will be destroyed. (5:46) -- Winner by Pinfall: Fire & Flava
Mean Gene caught up with the first WWE Cruiserweight Champion, Rey Misterio Jr., whose interview was ended earlier when he was attacked by Legado del Fantasma. Santos Escobar grabbed the title belt and said that it belonged to him, then he hit Misterio across the head with it and dropped it down on his lifeless body.
BRIAN PILLMAN vs. ADAM COLE : Brian Pillman went for Air Pillman, but Adam Cole blocked it with a superkick. Then, Cole executed the Last Shot and pinned him for the win. (9:14) -- Winner by Pinfall: Adam Cole
Mean Gene interviewed FTR, who boasted about their win over the Hart Foundation one night ago and told him they had their sights set on Harlem Heat and the WWE Tag Team Championships.
“MACHO MAN” RANDY SAVAGE & KEVIN OWENS vs. “THE BEST MAN” MIRO & BRIAN CAGE : Kevin Owens gave Brian Cage a pop-up powerbomb and made the pin but Miro managed to break it up at the count of two. Miro and Owens threw fists at each other until Miro sent Owens over the top rope with a clothesline. Miro exited the ring and the two superstars continued to brawl. Randy Savage climbed the turnbuckle and took out Miro with a diving double-axe handle smash. Brian Cage took Savage and Owens out with an Asai moonsault. Cage picked up Owens to try to return him to the ring, but he sent Cage into the turnbuckle post, where he hit his head. Miro delivered a running body block to Owens that made him fall into the same turnbuckle post. Savage and Miro kept throwing fists at each other until Savage was sent into the barricade. Miro ran at him and Savage lifted him over the barricade to the floor. By this point, the referee called for the bell to end the match, however the brawling continued between Savage and Miro fighting through the crown, Jim Cornette following along to cheer on his man, and Miss Elizabeth following, concerned for hers. Cage grabbed a steel chair to use on Owens, but the Prizefighter ripped it out of his hands so Cage superkicked it into his face. He took Owens over to the broadcast table and set up for a Cage Breaker. Owens got out of it with a back body drop, then picked up Cage and powerbombed him through the table! (8:29) -- Double Countout
Rowdy Roddy Piper hosted the Piper’s Pit with his guest, WWE United States Champion WALTER, who claimed to be the best wrestler on the planet, citing his victory over John Cena from the night before as proof. He said he embarrassed Cena so bad that he sent him running back to Hollywood with his tail tucked between his legs. Piper challenged WALTER with some questions that didn’t please the “Ring General.” When WALTER insulted Piper by calling him a washed-up has-been who hides behind a microphone now more often than he steps into the ring, Piper got hot under the collar, started yelling and tugging at his ear, upended his coffee table and began to throw down with WALTER, whose lackies in Imperium rushed out to turn it into a 4-on-1 beat down. Piper broke a wooden chair across WALTER’s back, but when he tried to drive WALTER’s head into a framed photograph hanging on the wall, WALTER reversed it, busting Piper open. The segment closed with WALTER collapsing the weight of Piper’s coffee table by powerbombing him onto it.
BECKY LYNCH vs. TENILLE DASHWOOD : Becky Lynch got the quick victory after executing the Manhandle Slam on Tenille Dashwood. As Becky Lynch was leaving, she stood at the top of the entrance stage to acknowledge the crowd one more time. Bayley ran out and hit her in the back of the head with the Money in the Bank briefcase. She gave Lynch a Bayley-to-belly suplex on the stage and then the arm-trap headlock driver right onto the steel staging. (3:37) -- Winner by Pinfall: Becky Lynch
BEST FRIENDS vs. BEER MONEY INC. : “Glorious” Bobby Roode and “Cowboy” James Storm executed Drinking While Investing on Chuck Taylor for the win. After the match, Trent and Orange Cassidy were checking on Taylor, when JBL entered the ring and attacked them. Roode and Storm helped out. Roode gave a Glorious DDT to Trent and Cassidy received a Last Call. Roode and Storm picked up Cassidy and held him up for JBL to give him the Clothesline From Wall Street but then the sound of glass shattering signalled the arrival of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin! He hit Roode with a chair and gave Storm a Stone Cold Stunner. JBL ducked out of the ring. Austin took a mic and said that he had a price for The Million Dollar Man – a million dollars in fines that he racked up for stomping a mudhole in all them zebras last night at Summerslam. Not only that but DiBiase has something that belongs to Stone Cold – a WWE Universal Championship title shot at Clash of the Champions and he wants that back. Stone Cold isn’t known for being a patient man, so he’s giving DiBiase one week to settle his debts and fork over the title shot to him or else ol’ Stone Cold’s gonna be fixing to whip his ass and that’s the bottom line ‘cause Stone Cold said so! (8:03) -- Winners by Pinfall: Beer Money Inc.
Mean Gene caught up with Ricky Steamboat, who told him that according to the rules of the fatal fourway match, he lost the WWE Intercontinental Championship fair and square. He said he wasn’t going to complain about but pointed out that he was neither pinned nor submitted for the title. He doesn’t feel like he was defeated so he is exercising his rematch clause and at Extreme Rules, he will get the title back.
WWE INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: AJ STYLES vs. EDDIE GUERRERO {c} : One night after winning the WWE Intercontinental Championship, Eddie Guerrero was defending it against the man whose tights he pulled to secure a pinfall victory to win the title: AJ Styles. They had a highly technical contest with Guerrero working an arm and shoulder and Styles working Guerrero’s legs. Styles gave Guerrero a ushigoroshi to get a 2-count. Then, he put him in the Calf Crusher. Guerrero writhed in pain and was on the verge of tapping out when he made one last attempt to get to the ropes and succeeded. Styles went out to the ring apron to set up for a Phenomenal Forearm. When Guerrero got up, Styles tried to jump, but someone reached up from under the ring apron and held his foot. By the time he shook himself free, Guerrero lifted Styles over the ropes, executing a brainbuster. He climbed the turnbuckle and hit the frog splash. He pinned Styles for the win. Guerrero celebrated his win. Once Styles receovered, he complained to the referee and led him out of the ring to look under the ring apron. However, the man, whose face was hidden under a hood, fled the scene by climbing out from under the other side of the ring, hopping the barricade and running off through the crowd. (17:02) -- Winner by Pinfall: Eddie Guerrero
