WWE CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT QUARTER FINALS MATCH: REY MISTERIO JR. vs. SANTOS ESCOBAR : As is the game plan for all Santos Escobar matches, Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde found a way to interfere, thus allowing Escobar to execute the Arrow Straight From the Depths of Hell on Rey Misterio Jr. This was the beginning of Escobar’s slow domination of the match. However, when he decided he was ready to finish it, Misterio countered his attempt at Thrill of the Hunt with a wheelbarrow bulldog. Misterio built momentum off that move, and after taking Escobar for a ride on the Misterio Express, Mendoza and Wilde tried to turn the tide back in Escobar’s favour. Mendoza ran a distraction as Wilde attempted to interfere. It failed as Misterio took him down and gave him the 6-1-9. Escobar tried to attack, but Misterio gave him a drop toehold into the ropes and gave him a 6-1-9. Then, he landed the West Coast Pop and got the pin for the win. (12:23) -- Winner by Pinfall: Rey Misterio Jr.
Mean Gene Okerlund asked AJ Styles for comments about competing in the fatal fourway Intercontinental Championship match at Summerslam. Styles said that while he was entering the ring with three other incredible athletes, he is the Phenomenal one, which gives him the edge that will bring him home the title. Eddie Guerrero came along and took offense, wondering why Styles hadn’t publicly thanked him for winning the tag team match two weeks ago, homes. If it wasn’t for the Latino Heat, Styles wouldn’t even be having this interview, ese. Styles said that just because he didn’t get the pin, doesn’t mean he had nothing to do with their win. Guerrero said he thinks it does, and really, no one thinks Styles even deserves to be in the match at Summerslam. Styles challenged Guerrero to a match next week, where he would show him why he doesn’t only deserve to be in, but why he will win it, you know, unless the Latino Heat isn’t man enough. The question of Eddie’s manhood was enough to make him lose his temper and accept the challenge.
FIRE ‘N FLAVA vs. THE IICONICS : Tasha Steelz went up to the top turnbuckle, where Peyton Royce tripped her up from the ring apron. Billy Kay went up and brought her down with a superplex. She tagged in Royce, who gave Steelz a spinning brainbuster and made the pin. Kiera Hogan tried to enter the ring, but Kay cut her off as the referee counted the fall and awarded the win to the team from down under. (8:07) -- Winner by Pinfall: The IIconics
BRET “THE HITMAN” HART vs. CASH WHEELER : Dax Harwood tried to interfere on his partner’s behalf, resulting in Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart pulling him off the ring apron and leveling him with a clothesline. Cash Wheeler thumbed Bret Hart in the eye and gave him a belly-to-back suplex. He tried to give him a piledriver, but Hart fought back to counter it with a back body drop. He gave Wheeler an inverted atomic drop, a side Russian legsweep and then applied the Sharpshooter to get the win in front of his hometown. (8:47) -- Winner by Submission: Bret “The Hitman” Hart
Coming back from commercial break, Tony Schiavone stood in the ring and announced that this year’s Casino Battle Royale will take place at Summerslam. He said that 21 superstars would get an opportunity to win a shot at the WWE Universal Championship at Clash of the Champions on October 24. Jim Cornette and “The Best Man” Miro came to the ring, where Cornette declared that Miro would be in the Casino Battle Royale and guaranteed that he would win it. Miro said that with his awesome god-given power, it would be game over for everyone else in the Casino Battle Royale. Pomp and Circumstance played and “Macho Man” Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth walked out onto the entrance stage. Savage had a guarantee for Jim Cornette, which was that, at Summerslam, he would throw Miro out of the ring after he entered the Casino Battle Royale – Ooh yeah!
KAIENTAI vs. WALTER : Kaientai came out and made an open challenge to anyone brave enough to step up to the face of EVIL. WALTER was brave enough to do it by himself. He finished off Taka Michinoku and Sho Funaki with folding powerbombs. He put Funaki in a rear naked choke to get the submission. (5:11) -- Winner by Submission: WALTER
After the match, WALTER cut a promo on how foolish it is for John Cena to think he can defeat WALTER when two men can’t even get the job done. Before he was done talking, the members of Kaientrai started to get up. WALTER didn’t like that and had his subordinates in Imperium attack. John Cena came out and told Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner to try picking a fight with men who weren’t already down.
JOHN CENA vs. MARCEL BARTHEL & FABIAN AICHNER : John Cena took on Imperium in a handicap match. While it was not as easy as it was for WALTER to defeat Kaientai, he still ended up on top. When Fabian Aichner lifted John Cena up into the powerbomb position for the diving European uppercut powerbomb combo with Marcel Barthel, Cena escaped with a hurricanrana. Barthel dove off the turnbuckle. Cena caught him on his shoulders and executed the Attitude Adjustment. Aichner tried to attack. Cena gave him a spin-out powerbomb, then a Five-Knuckle Shuffle and the Attitude Adjustment. He pinned him for the win. WALTER was infuriated. Cena took the mic and told WALTER that anything he can do, Cena can do better, including wearing the WWE United States Championship around one’s waist. (8:35) -- Winner by Pinfall: John Cena
Bianca Belair came to the ring and called out Asuka, just like she promised she would last week. Belair said that all this nobody is ready for Asuka business stops now best the EST of WWE is ready for everyone and anyone. Asuka doesn’t believe her and asks her to try her luck. Before anything can start, WWE Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley comes to the ring. She says that Belair isn’t ready for anyone and Ripley proved that when she successfully defended her championship against her. No one can take this title from Ripley, and if she was given the chance, she’d face Asuka and become a double champ. Asuka welcomes her to try. Raquel Gonzalez comes out and says that Ripley should be worried about her instead of Asuka because she poses the greatest threat to her title of anyone, and when she wins the WWE Women’s Champion, she’ll move on to take the MUW Women’s World Championship from Gonzalez. Everyone starts pushing and shoving and a brawl breaks out in the ring. As referees and other personnel come to the ring to try to gain control, Bayley runs out with them and clocks Ripley in the head with her Money in the Bank briefcase. Then she gives Belair a shot to the head. Becky Lynch shows up and takes Bayley down and they brawl. Order isn’t restored until after the show goes to commercial break.
WWE CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT QUARTER FINALS MATCH: JOHNNY GARGANO vs. TOMMASO CIAMPA : Gargano got Ciampa in the Garga-No-Escape, but he reached the ropes to force the break. When Gargano tried to execute One Final Beat, Ciampa blocked by wrapping an arm around the top rope. He countered with a bridging northern lights suplex. Gargano kicked out and Ciampa put him in a bridging Fujiwara armbar. Gargano made it to the bottom rope to break the hold. Gargano rolled out to the ring apron. Ciampa tried to pull him back in for a Willow’s Bell but Gargano locked his feet around the bottom rope. Ciampa fell back and Gargano got him with a slingshot spear as he was getting back up. Gargano went back out to the ring apron and waited for Ciampa to get up. When he did, he slingshot over, and this time, executed the One Final Beat. 1…2…3! (14:26) -- Winner by Submission: Johnny Gargano
Mean Gene Okerlund got a short word in with Kevin Owens, who said that although he didn’t technically get a win over Brian Cage two weeks ago, he felt he proved he was the better man and was ready to move onto other things, so he declared that he was entering the Summerslam Casino Battle Royale. Brian Cage hit Owens with a chair from the blindside, threw him into a wall and gave him a powerbomb on a catering table. Then, he told Mean Gene that Owens proved nothing. Cage remains unbeaten and at Summerslam, he’ll take Owens out of the Battle Royale and win the whole damn thing because he’s not a man. He’s a machine!
NIKKI CROSS vs. MICKIE JAMES : Mickie James executed a Mick Kick on Nikki Cross and pinned her for a long 2-count. James was surprised, but undeterred. She picked up Cross and gave her a MickDT. This time, Cross stayed down past the count of three. (7:58) -- Winner by Pinfall: MICKIE JAMES
KEITH LEE vs. SAMOA JOE : Samoa Joe and Keith Lee were brawling outside the ring when Lee hit Joe with a pounce that sent him over the top of the announce table. Mauro Ranallo and Tony Schiavone were able to et out of the way, but Michael Cole was taken out on the move. Lee returned Joe to the ring just in time to beat the ten-count. He gave him a Spirit Bomb. 1…2… Joe kicked out! Lee was in disbelief. He picked up Joe and lifted him onto his shoulders. Joe threw some elbows and slid down behind Lee. He tried to apply the Coquina Clutch. Lee backed into the turnbuckles to break that up. He whipped Joe across the ring and charged in. Joe moved and Lee hit the turnbuckles. Joe gave him punches and chops and a CCS enzuigiri and then a running facewash boot. Joe dragged Lee out of the corner and gave him a running senton then covered him. Lee kicked out at two. Joe picked up Lee and went for the whip. Lee didn’t move. Joe tried again. Lee still didn’t move. Lee used his power to counter. Lee went for hurricanrana. Joe countered with a powerbomb and flipped him into a Boston crab. Lee used his power to push up and crawl to the ropes. Joe lit into Lee with chops. He went for a whip. Lee reversed it and gave Joe a dropkick. When Joe got up, Lee went for a lariat. Joe ducked it and jumped on his back, applying the Coquina Clutch. Lee tried to break it by ramming Joe into the turnbuckles like he did before, but Joe wouldn’t let go. Joe applied a body scissors. Lee stayed on his feet, showing his immense power, but he began to fade. Finally, when he lost consciousness, he fell forward, Joe still on him. The ref checked on Lee. He was unresponsive so he called for the bell. (18:40) -- Winner by Submission: Samoa Joe
