THE WWE SURVIVOR SERIES PRE-SHOW
On tonight's Survivor Series Pre-Show Panel:
Jonathan Coachman, Paul Heyman, and Jim Cornette
Jonathan Coachman welcomes us to the re-launch of WWE on the Mash-Up Wrestling Network with tonight’s broadcast of WWE Survivor Series. Tonight’s show features six contests, including two MUW World Championship title matches, two Survivor Series matches for bragging rights between the new WWE RAW and SMACKDOWN brands, a first ever in WWE 21-Man Casino Battle Royal where the winner will earn the right to challenge the MUW Men’s World Champion in January at Royal Rumble, and a special attraction Casket Match between The Undertaker and Bray Wyatt.
Next, Coachman introduces us to his esteemed guests on tonight’s panel, Paul Heyman and Jim Cornette. He asks what brings them to WWE. Heyman says he was attracted by the sheer level of talent. He has come to look for diamonds in the rough – an individual or individuals who when using his services as an advocate extraordinaire will be launched to heights of superstardom to which they never could conceive. Cornette, for his part, isn’t interested in representing anyone on the WWE roster. He thinks it is full of idiots and morons and that the best talent works elsewhere for less money. He think they’ve been snubbed the big bucks and if Vince has even one undead braincell left in that billion dollar noggin of his, he’d take the meeting with him that he’s been trying to arrange all week to tell him who to sign that will make him way more money than any of the clowns he’s got back there in the locker room.
“No chance, that’s what you’ve got!”
Vince McMahon’s music plays and he saunters down to the ring. Vince thanks the fans for supporting his coming during its re-launch. He says that with the failure of the XFL and his other obligations outside of WWE coming to an end, he has returned to bring the company that brought him great fortune back to the lofty heights it once occupied. Tonight, is the very beginning of that journey. It is a journey that has no end in sight. Vince is dedicated to give the fans that they can be proud of. This is the premiere sports entertainment company in the game. It always has been and always be. He reminds them that they can watch WWE every week beginning this week, with RAW on the USA Network every Monday and SMACKDOWN on FOX every Friday. Then, he thanks them once more and tells them to enjoy the show.
We switch to a pair of hype videos for the MUW World Championship matches featuring Samoa Joe vs. AJ Styles and Asuka vs. Nikki Bella, complete with each wrestler getting a few comments about why they will win tonight. Back to the panel, Coachman, Heyman and Cornette discuss tonight’s matches. Coachman gets Heyman and Cornette’s predictions for who will win some of tonight’s contests. Neither man sees Asuka’s title reign coming to an end any time soon. Cornette believes Samoa Joe is in the early days of a title reign the likes of which we’ve never seen. Heyman says that while Joe is an incredible wrestler, he got lucky, and Styles will regain the Men’s World Championship.
Coachman tells us the rules of the Casino Battle Royal: The casino battle royal is a modified rumble rules battle royal that features 21 entrants. It begins with a group of five wrestlers, and every three minutes, another group of five wrestlers enter, while the 21st and final entrant enters alone. The wrestlers are grouped based on the suit they drew from a deck of cards – spades, diamonds, clubs, or hearts – and the order of when each group enters is based on a random draw of the cards. The 21st and final entrant is the wrestler who drew the joker. He notes that not all of the participants have been revealed as of yet, however, some of those known to be in the match spoke about their chances of winning earlier in the day.
We cut to pre-recorded 20-30 promos by Booker T and Stevie Ray of Harlem Heat, Daniel Bryan, Ricky Steamboat, Pete Dunne, Bret “The Hitman” Hart, The Miz, John Morrison, Chris Jericho with Jake Hager and Sammy Guevara of The Inner Circle, Bam Bam Bigelow, and Dominik Dijakovic.
When we come back to the Survivor Series Panel, Coachman, Heyman and Cornette discuss strategy of this unique battle royal, which competitors it favours and disadvantages, etc. Heyman believes that Daniel Bryan stands a good chance of winning, but he would also put money on Bam Bam Bigelow, as he’s the biggest man in the match, or Chris Jericho, as he has members of the Inner Circle to help him, if the timing of their entries into the match line up just right. Cornette says that Ricky Steamboat is the smart choice of all betting men, but that The Miz’s craftiness and intellect makes him another strong choice.
At this time, the panel is surprised by the appearance of Keith Lee, who says that he’s come to announce two things: 1) he’s signed a new contract with WWE; and 2) he has entered the Casino Battle Royal and intends to win it. He is the biggest guy in the match and there is no limit to what he can do. He will win the match and go on to Royal Rumble to face Samoa Joe and win the Mash-Up Wrestling Men’s World Champion, and after he does, everyone will bask in his glory.
Then, Ted DiBiase crashes the set, wearing a fancy tuxedo with dollar symbols on it. The Million Dollar Man has breaking news for you, Coachman. He’s just signed a contract with WWE. He came to Madison Square Garden to compete in the Casino Battle Royal only to find out that the paperwork on the contract wasn’t finalized on time, so he fired his lawyers. Keith Lee takes exception to DiBiase coming in to interrupt him. DiBiase tells him to cool it. He isn’t here to steal his thunder. He’s here with a business proposition. He pulls a giant wad of cash out of his pocket and offers to buy his spot in the match. Lee declines and DiBiase yells at Lee as he walks away, telling him he’ll be sorry for turning him down. Coachman asks DiBiase what he’ll do now and he says that he’ll figure something out because everybody has a price for the million dollar man.
We head over to the ring for the first match of the evening.
FATAL 4-WAY TAG TEAM MATCH
American Wolves vs. #DIY vs. Motor City Machines Guns vs. Proud and Powerful
American Wolves vs. #DIY vs. Motor City Machines Guns vs. Proud and Powerful
This match is fast-paced from the start. All teams get some time on the attack and controlling the action. However, with four teams, the increased opportunities to tag out (or be tagged without attempting to tag out), no one person bore the brunt of the offense for long nor was any team’s advantage secure for any great length of time. Just past the 9-minute mark, a flurry of big finishers were hit in succession, with Alex Shelley giving Johnny Gargano the Shellshock, Tommaso Ciampa giving him Project Ciampa, Eddie Edwards giving him Die Hard, Chris Sabin giving him the Cradle Shock, Davie Richards giving him a DR Driver, and Santana and Ortiz giving him the Street Sweeper. Gargano still being one of the legal men in the match, he returned to the ring and gave out superkicks to both Santana and Ortiz. Ciampa pulled Ortiz out of the ring and gave him a DDT on the floor. He then tagged in and together with Gargano they had a Meeting in the Middle (simultaneous running knee smash and superkick combo to Santana). Ciampa pinned Santana and got the 3-count to pick up the win for his team.
Official Decision: #DIY wins by pinfall at 9:36.
Back to the Survivor Series Panel, Heyman praises the work ethic of #DIY in getting the victory. He believes that Ciampa and Gargano have bright futures ahead of them. Cornette thinks they were opportunists that couldn’t beat any of the other teams in a normal tag team match if their lives depended on it.
Next, we get a hype video for tonight’s men’s Survivor Series match, which has a distinctly lucha libre flavour. Back to the panel, Coachman asks for predictions from his guests. Heyman believes that Team RAW will win because they are young and hungry and have nothing to lose. Cornette disagrees. He thinks Team SMACKDOWN will win in spite of La Parka’s goofy ass being on their team, simply on the strength of the leadership of Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio Jr.
Coachman tells us that last minute changes have been made to the women’s Survivor Series match. The composition of the teams had to be changed because some new superstars were signed last night and the RAW and SMACKDOWN women’s rosters were re-drafted earlier this afternoon. Now appearing in the match as Team RAW are Beth Phoenix, Rhea Ripley, Toni Storm, Nikki Cross, and Jazz. Now appearing in the match as Team SMACKDOWN are Bayley, Bianca Belair, Ember Moon, Mickie James, and Tenille Dashwood. He asks Heyman and Cornette for their thoughts on how the last minute roster re-alignment will affect both teams.
Before they can respond, Peyton Royce and Billie Kay crash the set and tell Coachman what they think. They say that Team RAW is going to lose now that they were dropped from the team. What’s more, they are boycotting the RAW brand and will be cheering for Team SMACKDOWN to get the win. Heyman has encouraging words for them, but Cornette is critical of their behaviour and he gets into a shouting match over their poor attitudes. This was a poor decision on his part as it ends with Billie Kay tossing the contents of an open bottle of water at him.
Next, we get a hype video to promote the Casket Match between The Undertaker and Bray Wyatt. Each superstar gets a minute to address their opponent. The Undertaker stands in a foggy graveyard next to an open grave and promises to put Wyatt inside the casket and bury him here to rest in peace. The camera pans over to the gravestone with Wyatt’s name on it. Bray Wyatt is at the Wyatt Family compound, sitting on a dock overlooking the Bayou. He rocks back and forth in his rocking chair. He promises to put an end to The Undertaker at Survivor Series because there is no room in this world for the dead masquerading as false prophets. Follow the buzzards.
Returning to the Survivor Series Panel, Coachman informs us that the next time we see WWE on ppv will be for the annual Royal Rumble, on January 31, 2021, live from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He says that, aside from the Royal Rumble Match itself, it is confirmed that the Mash-Up Wrestling men’s and women’s World Championship Titles will both be defended that night.
This is when Kevin Owens interrupts to let us know that we’ll know who will be taking on the men’s World Champion that night. Naturally, he claims it will be him because he is The Prizefighter and he will stop at nothing to get his hands on the World Championship. Tonight, he is going into the Casino Battle Royal and throwing each and every other man in that match over the top rope to get what he wants. No one can stop him. However, suddenly, Rowdy Roddy Piper walks into the scene. The fans who’ve already arrived at the arena, start cheering at the sight of the “Hot Rod.” He tells Owens that he won’t be winning that match because – and even if he hasn’t drawn the Joker card himself – there’s a second wild card added to the match – and it’s him! Piper is back in WWE and he’s going into the Casino Battle Royal to win, and you better bet everything you have that “Hot Rod” will walk all over everyone to get that World Title match, including the rather portly man over there that’s calling himself a Prizefighter. When it comes down to it, there’s no more prized a fighter in the world than “The Rowdy One,” and he’ll make sure Owens feels it firsthand. Owens says Piper is a pretty humorous guy but no one’s laughing and then slaps him across the face. They get into a tussle. Heyman and Cornette leave the desk so as not to get caught in the middle. Security officials soon rush to the scene to pull them apart.
As that’s taking place, Coachman tells us that’s all the time we have on the pre-show. He invites everyone to join us for Survivor Series, coming up next!
