MLW FRIDAY NIGHT HEAT
EPISODE 31
EPISODE 31
60-second video montage recapping the events of last week’s show, followed by title graphics and explosive pyro.
Joey Styles: “Welcome to MLW Friday Night Heat! My name is Joey Styles, and for the next 90 minutes, you better strap in and prepare yourself for the greatest wrestling action in the world today. I’m joined at the broadcast table by the legendary hardcore icon himself, Terry Funk, and before we get started, Terry, I wanted you to ask you – your tag-team partner, Cactus Jack, has left Major League Wrestling. Any insight on the move?”
Funk: “I’m not a mind reader, Styles, he didn’t even tell me he was going! But let me tell you one thing: there’s nothing in this business that I can’t handle, so rest assured, this isn’t gonna affect me one little bit.”
Styles: “I’d expect nothing less from a World champion such as you. Fans, we have four outstanding matches scheduled for you tonight, so let’s get straight to the ring where Howard Finkel is standing by!”
3 COUNT (w/Shannon Moore) vs. SOUTHERN COMFORT vs. the STREET PROFITS:
vs. vs.
Styles reminded the audience that a few nights earlier, Wyatt and Mercy interfered in a house show match involving the other two teams, laying both squads out without warning or reason.
3 Count and the Street Profits worked in tandem several times during the match, seeking vengeance against the bigger team. However, they could never keep the momentum going against the 300-pounders. The two big men used their size and unorthodox offense to stifle the opposition, and it took just over eight minutes for the “Eater of Worlds” to finish off Karagias with Sister Abigail. After the match, Mercy locked Helms in a sleeper while the Profits stood battered and dumb-founded outside the ring.
After the ring cleared, a vignette was shown for the newest member of the Conglomerate, Ethan Carter III. He, and JBL, would be in tonight’s main event against the MLW World Tag-Team champions, Edge and Christian; Styles insinuated that this was the favor Ted DiBiase was granted in exchange for “stepping aside” for the Seth Rollins/Roddy Piper match at Heatwave.

AMERICA’S MOST WANTED vs. the DPA:
vs.
This was a grudge match for Harris and Storm, who were still sore – literally and figuratively. Before the match started, a short video clip was shown from Heatwave, as Reed and Simmons laid them out before the gauntlet match. Cut to now, and the DPA didn’t even have a chance to get in the ring. AMW met them on the ramp, and the battle was on. The referee gave them plenty of leeway, though, and they brawled outside for about three minutes after the bell rang.
Once they all got inside, things settled down, but only a little. The four men were all tough customers, but they could wrestle as well. It was a see-saw battle from bell to bell, and the Agency’s explosive power advantage was negated by AMW’s superior speed and double-teaming. They went to a 20-minute time-limit draw, and as the two duos stared each other down from their corners, they seemed to acknowledge that the score was settled. At least, for now.

Another vignette, coming out of the break; this one was a 60-second highlight package featuring Leo Burke and Stephen Petitpas. Burke was an AGPW icon, both in its classic and more recent MUW incarnations, while Petitpas was equally regarded at one of the best to ever compete in the Maritime promotion. They would be making their Heat debut next week.
MLW INTERCONTINENTAL TAG-TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
The REAL MAIN EVENT (c, w/Roddy Piper) vs. TnT:

The REAL MAIN EVENT (c, w/Roddy Piper) vs. TnT:
vs.
The energetic challengers ran down to the ring first, followed by the ever-arrogant champions and their colleague, the “Rowdy Scot.” Finkel made the big-match intros, and the next few minutes were a clinic orchestrated by Orton and Kidd. Two of the most underrated workhorses in the entire sport, they traded holds and counters like masters.
“Mr. Wonderful” and Barreta were paired off as well, and the 50-pound weight advantage Orndorff enjoyed eventually turned the tide. He was relentless, viciously piling on with forearms and slams, but the high-flyer absorbed all of it. He dove for the hot tag, and soon, all four men were peppering each other with shots. TnT rallied, though, and Kidd hit “the Cowboy” with a high-crossbody from the top rope… unfortunately, Orton rolled through, and aided by a handful of trunks, he kept the Stampede star down for the pin at 11:55.
After the match, footage appeared on the monitors, seemingly shot on a cell phone. It was Leviathan – Sid Vicious and MLW Intercontinental champ Dave Batista – and they were in a foul mood. The champion did all of the talking. “Listen up, Mike Rotundo, Mike Rotunda, IRS, or whatever you’re calling yourself today! You stuck your nose where it didn't belong, and when you start swinging steel chairs at the money-making Hollywood superstar, you’re asking for a lawsuit. Do you have any idea what happens when productions have to shut down? Luckily for you, I’m feeling generous today, so we’ll settle this in the ring like men. Chuck Norris, make the match – Leviathan against Rotundo and any man he wants to bring with him. Waive the rule that states that we need a week’s notice. We don’t care! Just get him, and Windham, or whoever, in the ring next Friday!”

Styles was slightly more excited than his usual self. “Well, that didn’t take long! MLW Commissioner Chuck Norris has responded to Leviathan’s request, and he is indeed waiving his seven-day, so-called ‘mystery partner’ rule. Next week, Dave Batista and Sid Vicious will square off against Mike Rotundo and… well, we just don’t know! Will it be you, Terry?”
Funk rolled his eyes. “I’m crazy, but not that crazy. But you know what, I can’t help but notice that a lot of factions are cropping up here in Major League Wrestling. When I first got here, teams were teams and that was that. But now… the Horsemen, the Conglomerate, the Hart Foundation… Jim Cornette and Oliver Humperdink are managing multiple teams now, too… maybe I have to go looking for more than one partner!”
Styles: “Well, speaking of the Conglomerate, it’s main event time, so take it away, Howard!”
MLW WORLD TAG-TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
EDGE and CHRISTIAN vs the ONE PERCENT (w/Ted DiBiase):
vs.
EDGE and CHRISTIAN vs the ONE PERCENT (w/Ted DiBiase):
vs.
DiBiase led his crew to the ring, his World Heavyweight strap held snugly on his shoulder. The trio exuded confidence, with EC3 a perfect fit for the ever-expanding Conglomerate. The two-time MLW tag champions were next, and the fan favorites paused for a five-second pose before stepping between the ropes. Big-fight intros, and the bout got underway with familiar foes Edge and Layfield.
Frequent tags in this one, as neither team wanted to risk having the legal man getting worn down. Edge and Christian were a well-oiled machine with over a decade of experience together, while EC3 and JBL used their contrasting skills very effectively, given that this was one of their first matches together. DiBiase wasn‘t afraid to get his hands dirty at ringside, either, and he was a constant distraction.
The tide ultimately turned when JBL missed a Clothesline from Hell on Christian, and he went flying through the middle ropes. “Captain Charisma” dove to his corner for the tag, and Edge immediately went to the floor to pound on the Texan, throwing him into the ringsteps before propelling him back inside. The multi-time WWE champion stayed on the offense, with dropkicks and clotheslines before hitting him with the Downward Spiral. However, EC3 broke up the pin, and the fight continued… but not for long. Edge back-dropped JBL into a corner, setting him up for a spear. DiBiase waved to the back, and before Layfield could get to his feet, the Accountants – Harper and Rowan – slid into the ring. They attacked Edge, causing the instant disqualification, and when Christian jumped in for the save, he was tackled from behind by EC3. It turned into a four-on-two beatdown, with the “Million Dollar Man” directing traffic.
Then it got interesting.
The Real Main Event strutted out to the broadcast table, and while the assault continued, Piper grabbed the house microphone and said, “You know what? I think next week would be a great time for me and my pal ‘Mr. Wonderful’ to cash in on that World Tag-Team title match we’re owed from Battlebowl! So… yeah, let’s do it! See you next week, and good luck with that beating you’re taking, boys!”
As the three heels walked back through the curtain, it was parted yet again, just a few seconds later… by the Road Warriors! They ran down to the ring and straight at Harper and Rowan. They beat the hell out of each other, until EC3 and JBL jumped them as well. However, this gave the resilient champions time to recover and join the fight. Once DiBiase realized the odds were suddenly evened, he ordered the retreat, and the Conglomerate left. The Legion of Doom, Edge, and Christian stood in the center of the ring, and the two teams shook hands. But just as the camera faded to black, Hawk and Animal pulled Edge and Christian in closer, and snarled, “You owe us now.”
