Aztec Warfare III begins with Lucha Underground Champion Samoa Joe entering the ring and cutting a short promo about how even though he’s the first luchador in the match, he’s going to be the only luchador standing after the bell is rung for the final time. He challenges any and all luchadores to try to defeat him and says that he’ll grant anyone who can pin or submit him a title shot next week, no matter what condition he’s in.
Famous B, accompanied by the Beautiful Brenda, is out next. Matt Striker and Vampiro can’t believe he’s one of the twenty participants in tonight’s match. As it turns out, they’re right. Famous B lets us all know that he’s not competing in tonight’s match, although his client Dr. Wagner Jr. will be later. That said, he has come out to the ring to try to woo the Lucha Underground Champion into joining Infamous Incorporated. He enters the ring all sure of himself and tries to give Joe his card while telling him that as the champ, he should be getting movie, record, and tons of endorsement deals, but he’s not because he doesn’t have the right representation. But he can fix that by calling 423-GET-FAME! Joe doesn’t take the card. Instead, he clotheslines Famous B down, then puts him in a Coquina Clutch while Beautiful Brenda screams for someone to stop this.
The Believers erupt into a frenzy as they recognize that Pete Dunne is the other luchador who will begin this match. A newcomer to the Temple, the “Bruiserweight” enters the ring and shows no fear whatsoever. The bell rings and the match begins. As one might expect from these two, they begin with a terse exchange of stiff blows. The Believers are on their feet cheering for Both these guys when Dunne delivers a step-up enzuigiri kick to knock Joe down to one knee as the buzzer signals the arrival of…
… “Dare Wolf” PJ Black! He springboards into the ring with a phenomenal forearm smash that floors Dunne, and then takes Joe off his feet with a springboard missile dropkick. Black continues to dish out the offense to both his opponents for the next minute until he charges right into a Samoan drop from Joe, who then gives him in a running senton bomb and tries for the first elimination of the match, but Black kicks out.
Super Crazy is the next luchador into the match and he comes into the ring in the most spectacular way possible – by running and diving off the top of Dario Cueto’s office and onto the three luchadores in the ring! A “Holy shit!” breaks out as everyone is layed out for nearly on entire minute. Super Crazy tries to pin the Lucha Underground Champion, but he kicks out. Super Crazy went for his homerun shot, but it wasn’t good enough.
Sgt. Slaughter is the fifth entrant into the match. He doesn’t come to the ring doing anything remotely loco. Instead, he comes blowing a whistle and waving an American flag, promising to show how wrestling is better than lucha. As he does, he finds Super Crazy and chokes him with his flag pole before running him head first into the ring post. He continues the beat down until he’s sent flying back into the wall of Dario Cueto’s office by a suicide dive from the Bruiserweight! Back in the ring, Samoa Joe captures PJ Black in the Coquina Clutch and makes him tap out for the first elimination of the evening. PJ Black has been eliminated.
Dragon Lee joins the match, which thoroughly annoys the crap out of the Sarge, as he really doesn’t like authentic Mexican luchadores. He meets Lee on the floor before he’s even had a chance to enter the ring and starts brawling with him. It goes well for him at first, but then Lee uses the Sarge’s own momentum against him, giving him a standing hurricanrana that sends the charging Sarge into the front row of wooden chairs at ringside. Meanwhile, Super Crazy lands a combination of triple moonsaults on Pete Dunne to try to put him away, but he manages to kick out of the pinfall.
Psicosis, a second member of the Mexicools, enters the match and immediately pops the Believers with a springboard huirricanrana on Dragon Lee. Then, he takes out both Samoa Joe and Sgt. Slaughter as they brawled on the floor, with a springboard corkscrew plancha. Back in the ring, Dunne and Lee exchange a flurry of maneuvers that culminates with Dunne executing a vertical suplex turned into a sitout powerbomb, however Lee manages to kick out.
Mascarita Sagrada joins the match next and he sends Dunne, Super Crazy, and Dragon Lee all around the ring with a series of diving headbutts, missile dropkicks, and springboard arm drags before he’s finally knocked over with a hard kick to the side of the head, which sends him out to the ring apron. Samoa Joe comes back into the ring and gives Dragon Lee an inverted atomic drop followed by a single leg dropkick and a running senton bomb. Before he can pin, Psicosis and Super Crazy double team him, culminating in stereo missile dropkicks that send him down and rolling out of the ring.
If competing against so many luchadores is bad enough, it gets worse with the introduction of the current holder of the Gift of the Gods, Mil Muertes, who enters the ring and immediately destroys everyone and everything within his proximity. Psicosis gets a wicked snap powerslam. Super Crazy takes a hard spinebuster. Then, he serves them up a double Flatliner and pins both Mexicools at the same time. 1…2…3! Super Crazy and Psicosis have been eliminated. Back outside the ring, Mascarita Sagrada runs and dives off the ring apron to perform a tornado DDT on Sgt. Slaughter, who has yet to actually step foot in the ring.
The tenth participant in the match is its first luchadora, Taya Valkyrie. She immediately trades offense with Dragon Lee. After some arm drags and a dragonscrew leg whip, she serves him up a superkick. Before she can go for the pin, Mascarita Sagrada takes her down with a diving crossbody off the top rope. He climbs the turnbuckle to prepare to hit her with another move, but Taya kicks him in mid-flight and then gives him Road to Valhalla. 1…2…3! Mascarita Sagrada has been eliminated.
Will Ospreay enters the match next to a flurry of excitement as he flies freely all over the ring, and out of it, taking out Taya, Sgt. Slaughter, Samoa Joe, Pete Dunne, and Dragon Lee before a springboard forearm smash attempt is countered into a powerslam by Mil Muertes, who pins him for a 2-count. Mil Muertes continues to work on Ospreay, but he comes back with a number of kicks and a hidden blade elbow before he’s taken down with a springboard hurricanrana and then dropkicked out of the ring by Dragon Lee.
Juventud Guerrera represents the Mexicools’ last chance of winning Aztec Warfare III. With his partners having already been eliminated by Mil Muertes, Juvi comes right after him some quick strikes. However, when he tries to lift Mil Muertes into the Juvi-Driver, he receives some clubbing blows to the lower back and gets a jackknife powerbomb instead. Fortunately, he is spared from elimination when Sgt. Slaughter enters the ring for the very first time and puts Mil Muertes in a Cobra Clutch, but not for long as the Man of a Thousand Deaths runs him backwards into the turnbuckles to break the hold.
Sexy Star enters the fray as the thirteenth participant of the match. She comes to the ring with a steel chair in hand, which she uses on everyone in sight. By the time she’s done swinging it, she has bent it completely out of shape. After smashing Taya in the face with the chair and then giving her a bronco buster in the corner, Sexy Star put her in a cross armbreaker.
Johnny Mundo comes into the ring and gives Ospreay a moonlight drive before stomping away on Sexy Star and throwing her out of the ring, thus saving Taya from being eliminated. He checks to see if she’s okay, which turns out to be a huge mistake as Samoa Joe comes up from behind and gets him in the Coquina Clutch. Mundo can’t escape and has to tap out, ending his night long before he expected to go. Johnny Mundo has been eliminated.
We’re three quarters of the way through the match when Mr. America enters the match. As he comes down the stairs, Dario Cueto exists his office with a microphone in hand and says that Mr. America is not permitted to be in the match, and says that he’s clearly stolen someone else’s spot. Mr. America gets in Dario Cueto’s face and punches him down and out before he’s knocked into the front row of the bleachers by Samoa Joe who hits him with a tope suicida! Back in the ring, Sexy Star tries to rip Mundo’s arm out of his socket with a cross armbreaker, despite that he’s already been eliminated. However, Taya breaks that up, returning the earlier favour. Taya gets in her face, but gets her eyes raked a side Russian legsweep transitioned into another cross armbreaker when…
… a new unnamed luchadora arrives. Matt Striker thinks there’s something familiar about her. Vampiro digs her look. This luchadora enters the ring and immediately goes after Sexy Star, caving her head in with a chair before giving her two F-5s! The luchadora pins Sexy Star for a 3-count. Sexy Star has been eliminated. Outside the ring, The Patriot and “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan have arrived to help Mr. America assault the Lucha Underground Champion. It’s a 4-on-1 assault until the buzzer sounds.
It’s Prince Puma and he comes running down to take on the entire crew of lucha hating wrestlers, helping to take the heat off Samoa Joe. Meanwhile, back in the ring, Dragon Lee misses a splash attempt on Pete Dunne, who then gives him the Bitter End and pins him for the 1-2-3 to end his night. Dragon Lee has been eliminated. Back on the outside, Mr. America, The Patriot, Jim Duggan, and Sgt. Slaughter are engaged in a brawl with Samoa Joe and Prince Puma. They’re all suddenly wiped out by a springboard corkscrew shooting star press from Will Ospreay!
“Classy” Freddie Blassie is the eighteenth luchador in the match. As such, he’s well positioned to win the contest. He makes an immediate impact, entering the ring and giving Guerrera a Lou Thesz press. Taya tries to superkick him but he catches he foot and then trips her up before giving her a piledriver and pinning her for a 3-count. Taya Valkyrie has been eliminated. Guerrera kicks Blassie a series of kicks and a tilt-a-whirl-headscissors takedown, but his 450-splash attempt crashes out on Blassie’s knees, and then he’s immediately given a stomach claw that forces him to submit. Juventud Guerrera has been eliminated. After Pete Dunne gives the new luchadora a step-up enzuigiri kick, Blassie tries to get him in a stomach claw, but Dunne catches his hand coming and starts manipulating his finger joints instead.
Pentagon DARK is out next and he signals to the Believers that he has CERO MIEDO!!! He enters the ring and immediately gets into a scrap with Blassie and Dunne. They all end up brawling out of the ring. Moments later, Mil Muertes and the as yet to be named luchadora are engaged in a battle. The luchadora gets Mil Muertes onto her shoulders, but he slips free and then gives her the Flatliner and pins her to end her night.
The final luchador to enter the match is Dr. Wagner Jr. He comes to the ring accompanied by Famous B, who is telling him to eliminate Samoa Joe, so of course he attacks the Lucha Underground Champion. As he does this, the Make Wrestling Great Again crew bring Ospreay and Prince Puma into the ring. Duggan makes the mistake of attacking Mil Muertes, who was the sole luchador standing in the ring at that point, and knocking him out of it. The assault continues on the tecnicos in the ring, ending with Mr. American deliver a running leg drop to Ospreay and pinning him for a 3-count. Will Ospreay has been eliminated.
Mr. America gets up and goes into the ropes to deliver a running leg drop to Prince Puma, but he’s instead dropped hard into the mat with a Repear’s Trident by Mil Muertes! Duggan goes to attack and is sent over the top rope. The Patriot swings a chair at Mil Muertes, who simply absorbs the blow to his back, turns around and punches the chair into The Patriot’s face. Sgt. Slaughter comes charging at him and a spinning urinage slam and then the Flatliner. 1-2-3! Sgt. Slaughter has been eliminated.
Mil Muertes is receiving a standing ovation from the Believers, but the moment of glory is fleeting as Mr. America starts whipping Mil Muertes across his back with his weightlifting belt. He gives him several lashings before wrapping the belt around his neck and choking him out. Once he’s down, Mr. American gives him a running leg drop and pins him. 1-2-3! Mil Muertes has been eliminated.
Mr. America gets up and gloats, but he’s then taken down by Prince Puma with a springboard diving European uppercut! Puma then quickly heads up to the top rope and delivers a 630-degree senton bomb and covers Mr. America. 1-2-3! Mr. America has been eliminated. Prince Puma has gotten the better of Mr. America!
Dr. Wagner Jr. brings Samoa Joe into the ring and follows in with a slingshot senton. Cheered on by Famous B and “Nurse” Brenda, Dr. Wagner Jr. gives Joe some Bad Medicine and covers him for a 2-count. Joe is spared further damage as Prince Puma attacks Dr. Wagner Jr. They mix it up for about a minute before Dr. Wagner Jr. attempts a Wagner Driver. Prince Puma slips free behind him. His superkick attempt is blocked, but not his Pele kick. Prince Puma then delivers a brainbuster and goes to the top rope. Once there, he’s shoved off and sent crashing down to the floor by The Patriot. Duggan hits him several times across the back with his 2x4 before Mr. American gives him a running leg drop. They pick him up and toss him into the ring where Dr. Wagner Jr. gives him the Wagner Driver. 1-2-3! Prince Puma has been eliminated.
Then, there were five luchadores left. The first two – Samoa Joe and Pete Dunne – and the final three – “Classy” Freddie Blassie, Pentagon DARK, and Dr. Wagner Jr. – to enter the match. Should any of them pin Joe, they’ll get a title shot next week. Plus, the winner stands to get an unique opportunity unlike any other Dario Cueto has ever offered before. He has promised it will be something beyond their wildest dreams!
Dr. Wagner Jr. and Samoa Joe exchange a few blows before Dr. Wagner Jr. attempts a whip. Joe reverses it and gives him a snap powerslam and pins him for a 2-count. Joe picks up Dr. Wagner Jr. and places him on the top turnbuckle to set up for the Muscle Buster, but it’s too soon because Dr. Wagner Jr. fights him off and then executes a tornado DDT on Joe. He goes for the cover, but Joe shoulders out of it and then rolls out of the ring. Dr. Wagner Jr. shows that he’s going to go for a high-risk attack, but he’s taken down Pentagon DARK with a springboard clothesline. Pentagon DARK picks up Dr. Wagner Jr. and gets him into a pumphandle slam position, but Dr. Wagner Jr. slips out the back and then drops Dr. Wagner Jr. with a thrust kick before receiving a missile dropkick from Pete Dunne.
Now, Dunne and Pentagon mix it up, exchanging chops, palm strikes, and jabs, before Pentagon starts cutting Dunne down with kicks to the calves. A whip attempt is reversed, but Pentagon comes back with a sling blade. He runs to the ropes and gives him a second sling blade and then climbs onto the top turnbuckle. While he perched up there waiting, “Classy” Freddie Blassie climbs onto the ring apron and shoves Pentagon down to the floor. Then, Blassie is knocked off the ring apron with a stiff running forearm smash by Dunne, who is then knocked out with a helluva kick by Dr. Wagner Jr. But he gets tripped up, pulled out of the ring and thrown onto the floor with a overhead belly-to-belly suplex by Samoa Joe! Joe gets in the ring and delivers the CCS enzuigiri to Dunne before lifting him onto the top turnbuckle and then giving him the Muscle Buster! 1-2-3! Pete Dunne has been eliminated. And then there were four.
Blassie comes back into the ring, and drills Joe with some kendo stick shots before sitting down on him and choking him with the long-end of the kendo stick. He does this until he’s hit in the back of the head with a shining wizard from Pentagon, who immediately tries to cover Blassie. 1-2-kick out! Pentagon goes to pick up Blassie, but he receives a blatant upper cut low blow! Blassie follows it up with an implant DDT and then busts out the stomach claw. Pentagon writhes in pain, but can’t escape the hold, and he submits. Pentagon DARK has been eliminated. When Blassie lets go, he spits on Pentagon and kicks him out of the ring. The time spent focusing on getting rid of Pentagon proves to be a mistake because Joe grabs him from behind and locks him in the Coquina Clutch. Blassie doesn’t submit, but he eventually passes out, thus eliminating him from the match. “Classy” Freddie Blassie has been eliminated.
Down to the final two: the first and last luchadores to enter the match. Samoa Joe has gone the distance so far, but does he have enough to finish the match against the much fresher Dr. Wagner Jr.?
Dr. Wagner Jr. cautiously re-enters the ring and locks up with Joe. They exchange headlocks, arm ringers, and wrist locks, feeling each other out as if it is the beginning of a brand new wrestling match. Eventually, Joe brings Dr. Wagner Jr. down to the mat with a side headlock and holds it to try to wear him down, but the PhD. In bad medicine gets back to his feet, sends Joe running, and takes him down with a big dropkick. Dr. Wagner Jr. picks up the pace of his attack, pulling of a string of moves that ends with a springboard moonsault. He pins Joe, but the champ kicks out. Dr. Wagner Jr. decides to go up to the top rope, but Joe bounds into the ropes to trip him. He climbs the turnbuckle and gives the doctor a pair of headbutts before taking him down with a superplex. Joe covers, but Dr. Wagner Jr. kicks out at two. Joe takes him into the corner and drives his shoulder into Dr. Wagner Jr.’s abdomen a few times before putting him onto the top turnbuckle. He’s setting up for the Muscle Buster, but Famous B climbs onto the ring apron to distract the champion.
It works. Joe yanks on Famous B’s tie and pulls him clear over the top rope by his neck tie. Dr. Wagner Jr. performs a diving hurricanrana to save his manager from further harm. Then, he goes up to the top turnbuckle again and tries for a frog splash, but lands on Joe’s knees. Joe quickly pulls him into a Coquina Clutch. Famous B stomps on Joe to break it up. He gets caught up in an argument with the referee, giving Joe enough time to get up give Famous B a dragon suplex! When Joe gets up, he receives a blatant low blow from Dr. Wagner Jr., who then gives him a side Russian leg sweep. Dr. Wagner Jr. goes to the top rope and executes a moonsault. He covers. 1…2… shoulder up! Dr. Wagner Jr. can’t believe it. He waits for Joe to get up and attempts to pick him up for the Wagner Driver, but Joe breaks free and locks on the Coquina Clutch. This time it’s good and there’s no one to break it up. Joe pulls him to the mat and applies a body scissors. Dr. Wagner Jr. can’t escape and taps out! Dr. Wagner Jr. has been eliminated.
Samoa Joe goes the distance. For that, he is to be rewarded handsomely by Dario Cueto. El Jefe comes to the ring with a large briefcase and presents Samoa Joe with his prize. When he opens it, he pulls out a large gauntlet. Joe is unimpressed. Cueto promises him that this reward is more valuable than anything he could ever imagine and urges him to try it on. Joe tells Cueto that it looks kind of stupid, and he doesn’t need a big metal glove for his right hand to destroy everyone with whom he crosses paths. He puts it back in the briefcase, collects his championship title and leaves, with Cueto left looking flabbergasted.
