MLW FRIDAY NIGHT HEAT
EPISODE 16
EPISODE 16
60-second video montage recapping last week’s show, followed by title graphics and explosive pyro.
Lance Russell: “Good evening, wrestling fans, and welcome to Friday Night Heat. I’m Lance Russell, and I’m joined by the manager of the Horsemen, JJ Dillon. We have four outstanding matches scheduled on tonight’s card, so without further ado, let’s get to the ring and our announcer, Howard Finkel.”
THE FABULOUS FREEBIRDS vs. the MAIN EVENT MACHINE vs. BARRY WINDHAM/?:
vs. vs.
The two heel teams strode down the ramp first. Windham walked through the curtain next, microphone in hand. “I’ve been in a lot of tag teams over the years, and I’ve worn a lot of championship gold as a tag-team champion. In fact, some of those partners are right here in Major League Wrestling. But even a veteran like me can sometimes forget that partnerships don’t always work out. Terry Gordy, you betrayed me, and you’re gonna pay for that. I thought I’d settle that score with Hernandez at my side – well, that didn’t work out either. Fool me once, shame on you - fool me twice, shame on me. So I went back home, licked my wounds, and figured it out. Family first. I have a man in my corner I can trust now - and here he is.”
The lights went out for a few seconds, and when they came back on, Windham’s nephew stood at his side… Bray Wyatt.
The Machine and the Freebirds were incensed, having no time to prepare for the near-300-pound “Eater of Worlds”. The action was intense, and the triple-threat rules insured that interference and plunder were commonplace. Chaos reigned, and all six men ended up outside the ring brawling like wild men. The brawl lasted for just over ten minutes, and ended when Windham hit a top-rope superplex on Hayes – to the outside, through a table, as Wyatt launched himself off the opposite corner with a huge splash, reminiscent of Power and Glory's powerplex. Taking advantage of the situation, Orndorff dug through the wreckage and tossed the Freebird back into the ring where Drake could pin him before “Bamm Bamm” could break it up. Windham and Wyatt slowly, painfully got to their feet and watched Hayes get stretched out of the USF Sun Dome.

A camera was situated in CIO Jeff Jarrett’s office, where he sat with Elias. After last week’s confrontation with the Heroes of the Republic, Jarrett used his power to make a non-title match with the MLW Intercontinental Tag-Team champions for next week.
AMERICA’S MOST WANTED vs. CACTUS JACK/TERRY FUNK:
vs.
Despite all of their NWA/TNA success, AMW came into this bout as the underdog. Funk and Jack took it to them early, laying in boots and fists with ferocity. They cut Storm off from his partner, and “the Cowboy” absorbed several minutes of punishment. Eventually, he made the hot tag to “the Wildcat”, who took on both opponents. Tags became more frequent, and all four men paid the physical toll. In the match’s closing seconds, Funk nailed Harris with a piledriver as Cactus Jack took Storm - and himself - over the top rope with a vicious clothesline. The hardcore icon fell on Harris; one, two – and then the bell rang, signifying the 20-minute time limit expired.

Coming out of the break, Dillon spoke. “Ladies and gentlemen, as you all know, I have the honor of managing the best team in the MUW Network, the MLW World Tag-Team champions, Curt Hennig and Brian Pillman. And with me guiding those two very skilled competitors, I expect them to reign for a long, long time.”
“I also have the good fortune of managing two other young men. Two very talented, very hungry wrestlers who are the epitome of tag-team wrestling. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder – the Revival.” Dillon paused as the duo slowly walked through the curtain and toward the broadcast table, then he continued. “They’ve got guts, they’ve got ring intelligence beyond their years, they’ve only scratched the potential of their abilities… and they’ve got me in their corner. The Revival does their talking in the ring, so I’ll be the one that speaks for them now. They’ll fight any team, anytime, anywhere, so consider this an open challenge. Next week… anyone out there listening is more than welcome to sign on the dotted line.”
As Dawson and Wilder left, a 30-second highlight segment from last week's Edge-DiBiase World championship match was shown. Because of the dubious double-countout, Jarrett made the upcoming match… and Money Inc. was not happy about it.
IF CHRISTIAN WINS, TED DiBIASE MUST DEFEND THE TITLE NEXT WEEK ON FRIDAY NIGHT HEAT
CHRISTIAN (w/Edge) vs. IRWIN R. SCHYSTER (w/Ted DiBiase and Keith Lee):
vs.
CHRISTIAN (w/Edge) vs. IRWIN R. SCHYSTER (w/Ted DiBiase and Keith Lee):
vs.
The bell rang, and the two teams jawed at each other in the center of the ring while the massive Lee tipped the odds in his employer’s favor; after several seconds of trying to restore order, the referee had had enough. He ordered Edge, DiBiase, and Lee back to their dressing rooms; even the “Million Dollar Man’s” bribe attempt went ignored.
But while the official’s back was turned directing the non-combatants away, Schyster smashed Christian over the head from behind with his briefcase, flooring him. He then yelled at the referee while he went for the pin. However, Christian kicked out at 2.99. “The Taxman” was angry, and kept up the assault. It took a while, but the tide eventually turned in the Canadian’s favor, and he used his superior speed to score a number of near-falls himself. This high-stakes battle finally ended after a series of pin reversals, with the “Instant Classic” closing it out with a small package on Schyster at the 12:48 mark.

TEXAS TORNADO RULES / STEEL CAGE MATCH
THE GREAT BRITONS vs. OWEN HART and DAVEY BOY SMITH:
vs.
THE GREAT BRITONS vs. OWEN HART and DAVEY BOY SMITH:
vs.
Russell and Dillon both noted that this feud was the most personal in MLW, and a steel cage was the only way to end it. The arrogant Britons entered the cage first to a cascade of jeers, followed by the popular tandem of MLW Wild Card champion Smith, and Hart. No more attempted alliances, no more alleged favors… this would be a war.
Once the bell rang, the referee did his best to control the action and stay safe. There was no escape stipulation in this match; pinfall or submission was the only way to win it. Smith and Barrett squared off, as did Hart and McGuinness, to begin it. Throughout the 19-minute-long battle, the cage was used as a weapon, and blood was inevitably shed. No one wanted to give in, and every man fought out of various pin attempts and finishers. In the end, with Barrett temporarily incapacitated, “the Bulldog” flattened McGuinness with a vicious running powerslam… but the former ROH champ managed to kick out at two. However, he was still lying on the mat, and could not avoid the jaw-dropping moonsault that the “King of Harts” squashed him with from the top of the cage after insuring that his brother-in-law moved out of range. Smith locked a full-nelson on his fellow Brit, while Hart slowly rolled back onto McGuinness. Three second later, at 19:10, it was mercifully over.
The Stampede alumni celebrated in the ring, waving their foes away as the cameras faded to black.
