WCW Monday Nitro episode 50 for 01.08.24
Live from the Capital Sports Center in Sacramento, California
Commentary: Gorilla Monsoon and Wade Barrett
Ring Announcer: Gary Michael Cappetta
Interviewer: SoCal Val
Referees: Tommy Young, Joey Marella and Charles Robinson
Highlights from the last Nitro are shown involving the nWo and Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart. We go to the ring live where the nWo is in the ring, including Bret Hart wearing an nWo shirt.
“I want to make it perfectly clear that I never wanted to put this shirt on ever again. I didn’t put it on because I wanted to. I didn’t put it on because L.A. Knight wanted me to. I didn’t put it on to spite Hulk Hogan. I put it on because my brother, Owen, told me too. I never turned my back on him. He turned his back on me like he always does. Owen, be careful what you ask for, because you just might get it. Yeah, Bret Hart is nWo for life.”
This gets boos from the crowd. Bret and Knight hug. “Another thing I need to address is the situation with Hulk Hogan. He was forced into retirement by losing a match to me, which is where the nWo turned their backs on Hogan. He’s been bucking to get reinstated and missing the fact that if I’m the guy who retired him, I’m the guy that can allow him to come back. And I’m willing to do that under one condition. At the Tremendous Tussle, Hogan does what he’s been claiming he wants to do, and that is wrestle Will Hobbs right here in this very ring.”
Shane McMahon then comes out to the entrance stage. “I told Hulk Hogan and the New Foundation to chill in the back and let me handle this. Bret, if you want Hulk Hogan reinstated, fine. If you want him to face Will Hobbs at the Tremendous Tussle, fine. But let’s not keep Hogan on the shelf until then. Let’s put him back in the ring tonight with the New Foundation against Bret Hart, Will Hobbs and L.A. Knight of the nWo.”
The fans cheer for that and the nWo say to bring them on.

Kamille Kaine defeated Molly Holly by pinfall via spear at 9:10.
Tessa Blanchard comes out and again demands Kamille to explain her interference in Blanchard’s match against Taya Valkyrie at Saturday Night’s Special. Kamile doesn’t say anything, but marches up the ring ramp to face Blanchard. However, Valkyrie attacks Blanchard from behind with the WCW Women’s U.S. Title.
Valkyrie knows why Kamille attacked Blanchard. It’s simple. She wanted that title shot and didn’t feel Blanchard deserved it. Taya can respect that and she’ll give Kaine a title shot…only if she beats Tessa Blanchard next week on Nitro.

Mando Guerrero defeated Magnum TA via disqualification at 12:47. Footage is shown of Magnum and Austin Idol going to a 15-minute time limit draw on the last Thunder. As the clock ticks down to the time limit this week, Magnum gets frustrated that he can’t put Guerrero away and just waffles him with a chair on the outside.
Chris Jericho comes out to the entrance stage and taunts Magnum about how he just can’t seem to get the job done, which is something Magnum’s wife has told Jericho about him. Although, he usually doesn’t go anywhere close to 15 minutes. Jericho makes a challenge to Magnum for the next Nitro. Magnum faces a handpicked opponent by Jericho and Jericho will face a handpicked opponent from Magnum and we’ll see who gets a win and who comes up short, which is something Magnum knows about too according to his wife.

“The Man with the Hands of Stone” Ronnie Garvin with an eyepatch defeated the Warlord with “Number One” Paul Jones by pinfall at 7:43 via Stone Cutter. Jones smacks Garvin in the back with his cane afterward, but Ronnie no sells it, turns and punches Jones. Jones and Warlord scamper off.

Hulk Hogan and the New Foundation are on the interview stage with SoCal Val. “Hulkamania is back, brother, but it never left. And while the yellow and red will be coming out of the moth balls at the Tremendous Tussle, jack, I’m still sporting the pink and black while I stand with Jack and Otis of New Edition tonight.”
Jim Neidhart has a look of ‘what the hell did he just say’ and Owen Hart’s look is ‘you know what, I’m just going to let it go.’
“Bret, you want to blame me for you joining the nWo. You want to talk about how many times I turned my back on you and how Jim stood with me. It’s only because you always left us with no other choice, just like now. You always want to blame everybody else for what happens to you. Take responsibility for your own actions. We all know every single time, nobody does anything to you, it’s always Bret screwing Bret.”

Asuka defeated Madusa Micelli by submission via Asuka Lock at 8:48.

“Timeless” Toni Storm is on the interview stage with SoCal Val and talks about aligning with Austin Idol against Rick Martel and Asuka. She and Idol are both blonde, brash and bold. While Martel and Asuka are sorry, sad and simple.
Asuka comes up from the ring to the interview stage, stares down with Storm and then mists her in the face. Asuka kicks her off the stage. Shows her green tongue to the camera and says the one word she knows in English “arrogance.”

Viper Pillman with Jake “The Snake” Roberts defeated John Kronus by pinfall at 8:35 via Dire Promises.

Brian Pillman comes out and wants to talk to his son alone. Jake Roberts tells him that is Viper’s decision to make. He doesn’t make decisions for him like Brian used to do. Viper stares at his father for a moment and then walks out of the ring. Brian turns and calls after him, but Jake spins Brian around and hits him with a DDT. Brian forgot the most important lesson of all, never turn your back on a snake. If Brian wants to have it out with his son, he’ll have it, but only when the Viper is ready to have it. Brian is living on what his son says and does now, not the other way around.

“Stunning” Steve Austin defeated Perry Saturn by pinfall via Stunner at 13:13.

“American Dream” Dusty Rhodes is live via satellite from his home. “I’m living the American Dream with an extra week off work for the holidays so I can spend it with my family. I’m thankful for my family, for all my fans and to be the WCW World Heavyweight Champion, daddy. Austin thinks he might have Big Dust’s number for our rematch set for the Tremendous Tussle, baby, by making it a first blood match. Yes, I bleed a lot in that ring. But I also sweat a lot and cry a lot. I’m the man I am because of the amount of blood, sweat and tears I leave in that ring every single time I set foot in it. You want my blood, Austin, you’ll get it, but I’m taking some of your blood too, daddy.”

“Macho Man” Randy Savage is on the interview stage with SoCal Val and gets a big pop. He’s back from injury via a dislocated elbow at the hands of Steve Austin. And while Austin will get his soon enough, right now the Madness is coming for Kurt Angle. Savage and Angle will face on Saturday Night’s Special 3 with the winner entering the Tremendous Tussle last and the loser first.
Angle comes out and says the Ultimate Olympian won’t lose to the Ultimate Moron. Savage retorts how he got his butt whipped by the man he was calling the Ultimate Meathead, Brian Cage, at Starrcade International and looked like the chump he is while doing it. Angle swings at Savage, but he blocks and comes back with a punch. He then delivers three elbow smashes to the head and Angle falls back and trips off the stage. The elbow is healed and better than ever and the Macho Man is back in WCW. Oh yeah!

The New Foundation (Owen Hart and Jim Neidhart) and Hulk Hogan vs. the nWo (Bret Hart, L.A. Knight and Will Hobbs) goes to a no contest at 12:40 with everybody brawling at the same time in the ring.
Shane McMahon comes out and shouts for some order because he has a big announcement for Tremendous Tussle. Not only will we see Hulk Hogan vs. Will Hobbs, but the New Foundation will defend the UWA Universal Tag Team Titles against Bret Hart and L.A. Knight of the nWo.
