NWA Championship Wrestling Sept. 7 Saturday TV Taping
The announcing team of Gordon Solie & Bob Caudle are standing in front of the huge NWA Logo before they welcome the fans the new episode of NWA Championship Wrestling. Gordon & Bob state they have a lot to talk about as they announce the World and United States Champions on today's show. Gordon announces the World's Heavyweight Champion is Big Van Vader managed by 'Playboy' Gary Hart; The World's Tag Team Champions are the Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Gene, Lars & Ole Anderson): the World's Junior Heavyweight Champion is Danny Hodge: the World's Women's Champion is Mschif. Bob announces the United States Heavyweight Champion is 'Cowboy' Bill Watts: the United States Tag Team Champions are the Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers): the United States Junior Heavyweight Champion is Tony Charles: the United States Woman's Champion is Taryn Terrell. Solie adds this a good start for the NWA. Caudle adds that there were a problem or two last Saturday involving 'Bruiser' Brody. Gordon tells the fans that Commissioner Jim Barnett is here to address that situation.
Barnett joins them to discuss the pre-match challenge Brody made to the winner of the World's Heavyweight Match between Vader & Bob Backlund. They air pre-match footage of Brody's challenge & Backlund throwing Brody over the top rope when he accused Bob of collusion with Barnett. That distraction allowed Vader to sneak attack Bob who never really was able to mount a good offense. The Commissioner said he had a private conversation last Monday with Brody in his office. The matter is settled as far as Barnett is concerned. Bruiser knows he had better keep his temper in check or he will be gone from the NWA.
Here comes manager 'Playboy' Gary Hart with NWA World's Heavyweight Champion Big Van Vader as the Commissioner excuses himself. Hart reminds Solie, Caudle & all those fans out there that he predicted Vader would beat Bob Backlund to become the first NWA World's Heavyweight Champion. The Playboy adds that 'Bruiser' Brody's pre-match comments had not real bearing on the match. Vader won fair & square. And as far as Brody's challenge to the winner -- get in line chump. Bill Watts, Wahoo McDaniel, Fritz Von Erich, Stan Hansen, they are all top contenders for Vader's belt. Vader will be World's Heavyweight Champion for as long as we want. Good talking to you Solie & Caudle.
Solie runs down tonight's matches which feature all the US champions in non-title action. Bob brings out our new TV/ring announcer Mike McGuirk to introduce her to the tv audience. We go to the ring for the first of today's five matches.
Match 1. Non-Title 4 Man Tag Team Match. United States Tag Team Champs The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommty Rogers) defeat Badd Attitude (David Young & Rick Michaels). (8:52). Badd Attitude is rough & tough but the US tag champs team work prevails at the end as Fulton gets the 1-2-3 on Young.
Following the match, the World Tag Team Champions the Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Gene, Lars & Ole Anderson) came to brag about beating the Kentuckians to become World Tag Team Champions. Ole seems delighted in injuring 'Big' Luke Brown to win the match. They add there is no other tag team that can beat them - even Brody & Hansen. But wait, they aren't tagging anymore. They leave with an evil laugh.
Commercial break includes interview 'Bruiser' Brody says he is not going to change for anybody & wants a title match Vader anytime, anyplace. As far as Hansen going solo, he had better stay out of the Bruiser's way
