From the Mile One Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador
It’s time for Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling on ASN. It’s time to play that old familiar drum beat!
Ed Whalen: Good evening, Atlantic Canada! Welcome to Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling on ASN. I’m Ed Whalen and with me as always is Jeremy Borash. Fans, our show is packed with big matches this week. Most of those big matches are tag team bouts. Why is that Jeremy?
Jeremy Borash: It is because, last week, Chief Morley announced that 8 teams would compete in qualifying matches for a fatal fourway match to determine who the first North American Tag Team Champions will be. That match will take place at PRIMETIME LIVE on Saturday, July 20!
Ed Whalen: That’s right. Because the focus is on the tag team titles this week, the tournament to crown the first International Heavyweight Champion takes a one week break and it will resume next week.
Ed Whalen: In the fatal fourway qualifiers, we will see Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch face La Résistance, the Montréal Mafia compete against Team Canada, The Jersey Shore take on Kaientai and the Junkyard Dog & Bo Dallas battling the Cuban Assassins.
Jeremy Borash: That last match will be a little bit personal for Junkyard Dog. I spoke to him before the show and he told me that he’s looking to exact a small measure of revenge on the Cuban Assassins for assaulting him two weeks ago during JYD’s match against Cuban Assassin. He hasn’t forgotten about that and he hasn’t forgiven them.
Ed Whalen: If anyone can make good on a promise of revenge in the ring, I think it would be the Junkyard Dog.
Jeremy Borash: Plus that’s not all. Chavo Guerrero will be action tonight, and Maryse Ouellet has promised us that we will see the debut of her first client, although she hasn’t said who it is.
Ed Whalen: And speaking of debuts, the long awaited in-ring debut of Test will finally happen tonight, as he’s scheduled for a handicapped match, but against who? We’ll have to wait to find out.
Jeremy Borash: There is so much happening on tonight’s show. I can’t wait to see all of the action. Fortunately for us, our first match of the night is about to get started. Let’s go to the ring as the evening starts off with Petey Williams & Eric Young versus Frenchy Martin’s Montréal Mafia!
VS. w/
Team Canada vs. Montréal Mafia w/ Frenchy Martin
Team Canada starts out hot, using their speed to their advantage, but Canada’s Strongest Man, Dino Bravo, eventually clubs Eric Young with a hard lariat and starts wearing him down with his power. Bravo and Vachon make quick tags and stay right on top of Young. He gets a brief hope spot when he takes Vachon down with a cross bodyblock, but he can’t capitalize any further and tags out. Young looks like he’s definitely still feeling the effects of the massive beating he received at the hands of Marc Mero and the Jersey Shore, last week. Petey Williams breaks up a few pinfall attempts, in hopes that his partner can find a way to tag out, but he’s being dominating by his opponents. The end of the match comes when Mad Dog Vachon tags out to Dino Bravo and then runs across the ring to knock Williams off of the ring apron while Bravo puts Young in an airplane spin, crashes him down to the mat and pins for the win.
Official Decision: Montréal Mafia wins by pinfall
SoCal Val is with Elix Skipper for the first of her four interviews with the four semifinalists in the International Heavyweight title tournament. She mentions that it has just been revealed that his opponent in next week’s match will be “The Iceman” Dean Malenko and asks him how he feels about facing the Man of 1,000 Holds. Skipper knows and understands that it’ll be his toughest match to date, but he isn’t going let that get into his head or cause him to change his game plan. Malenko might have 1,000 holds, but he says that he has 1,000 electrifying moves to stun Malenko and stop him cold in his tracks. Val wonders whether Skipper is worried that Test might get involved in the match and cost him his chance of making it to the finals. Skipper isn’t worried about it. He says he expects Test to try to cost him the match and he’s preparing for that eventuality. Skipper closes by saying that there is nothing that can stop him from stopping “Primetime” from winning the title at PRIMETIME LIVE.

VS.
Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch vs. La Résistance
This match is evenly fought in the early minutes. Neither team is really a favourite of the fans, so the crowd is a little subdued in the early going. A small smattering of fans seems to be pulling for Cade and Murdoch just because they aren’t Duprée and Grenier. The action goes back and forth and each team is able to make frequent tags. Duprée and Grenier try to cheat with the use of illegal holds and tactics such as hair pulls and eye gauges, which prompts Cade and Murdoch to retaliate in kind. Eventually, the match spills out to the floor at ringside and things really pick up as all four of the men get involved in the ringside brawl. Cade and Murdoch have the advantage, here, as they are much better at brawling than La Résistance. Cade returns Grenier to the ring while Murdoch and Duprée continue to fight on the outside. Cade climbs to the top turnbuckle and leaps off, landing a flying elbow drop. He covers, but Grenier manages to just get his shoulder up. Cade signals that he’s preparing to go for a superkick. Just when he gets ready to move in on Grenier, Duprée grabs his foot and keeps him from getting away from the ropes, allowing Grenier to run in and deliver a hard clothesline and then continue to beat him down to the mat. Grenier pulls him away from the topes and tags in Duprée. He goes up to the top rope, but Murdoch pulls on the rope and Duprée falls to a seated position on the top turnbuckle! Murdoch and Grenier exchange blows and Murdoch leaps down from the ring apron, choking Grenier on the top rope. Cade crawls over and covers him, but the count is stopped when Duprée hits him in the back with an axehandle smash after leaping off of the top turnbuckle. Duprée scoops up Cade and gives him a bodyslam. He sees Murdoch entering the ring and gives him a spinebuster. It looks like La Résistance is in charge now. Grenier attacks Cade, while Duprée runs to the ropes and gets tripped up by Lance Storm!
He and Leo Burke pull him out of the ring and kick him while he’s down. The referee hasn’t noticed what is happening. They stop the beat down and break up before the referee notices. Meanwhile, Grenier is working over Cade and has him in a rear chinlock when he notices his enemies at ringside. He keeps a watchful eye on them and starts shouting for his tag partner, whom he can’t see anywhere. Duprée gets up to his feet, and Storm pounces, hitting him squarely in the jaw with a superkick. Grenier thinks something’s up and starts paying more attention to Burke than he does to his opponent. He goes over beside the ropes and starts shouting at him to go away. Cade gets up and tags Murdoch, who runs in and dumps Grenier over the top rope. Storm rolls Duprée into the ring. Murdoch spots him, picks him up and gives him the Ace of Spades powerbomb. The referee counts to three, making Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch victorious in this North American Tag Team title fatal fourway qualifier.
Official Decision: Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch win by pinfall
Leo Burke grabs a microphone from the timekeeper’s position to very quickly and mockingly says, “René Duprée and Sylvain Grenier, it’s a shame that you lost your chance of becoming North American Tag Team Champions,” much like Duprée and Grenier had mockingly said to Burke and Storm about being eliminated from the International Heavyweight Championship tournament, one week ago.
*Commercial Break 2*
SoCal Val is with “Marvelous” Marc Mero and his personal trainer, Candice Michelle, for her second of four interviews with the semifinalists in the International Heavyweight title tournament. She asks him how it feels to have advanced to the semifinals. Mero says it feels great, but that there never really was any doubt that he’d make it this far. Just as there shouldn’t be any doubt that he’ll make it all of the way to the end and become the first International Heavyweight Champion. His training regimen, as designed by his personal trainer, has given him the confidence, stamina, and skills he needs to stay two steps ahead of his opponents at all times. Val asks him what his strategy will be for facing Chris Candido. Mero says that he’ll go into the match with the same strategy that he takes into every match – he’ll hit him hard and hit him first because he’s got the fastest and hardest hands in the game, and not even Chris Candido can avoid them. Because when his hands want to kiss his opponent’s lips, they don’t miss, says Mero.
We go to the ring to find Maryse Ouellet who is here to reveal the identity of her first client. She reminds us that her specialty as a manager is finding the best and most talented professional wrestling athletes in the world and bringing them to Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling to dominate this territory as a first step towards conquering the entire world of professional wrestling. Then, she says that she is pleased to introduce to us the best pure athlete and most handsome man in all of professional wrestling – Magnus!
His opponent, Danny Doring, comes out with a microphone in hand. He takes great offense to the comment about Magnus being the most handsome man in professional wrestling. He thinks that Maryse must never have laid her eyes on him because if she ever had, she’d know that he was the best looking man in professional wrestling, and claims that she would stop searching the world over for talent to manage and instead would be looking for the nearest bed to jump into with his Danaconda!
w/ VS.
Magnus w/ Maryse vs. “Dastardly” Danny Doring
Disgusted by his comments, Maryse orders Magnus to make short work of Doring, and he complies. Doring doesn’t stand a chance in this bout. He is completely outperformed by the better looking and more atheletic Englishman. Magnus dominates Doring and wins the match in under three minutes after pinning him, following the Tormentum.
Official Decision: Magnus wins by pinfall
We go to a shot of Chief Morley’s office. He’s sitting on a sofa watching the action on a monitor. Without knocking, Test comes in and asks him “What the hell do you want?” Morley tells him that he’s finally booked for his debut and that he’ll be in tonight’s main event. Test tells him that is the most sensible decision he’s made since becoming the Chief of Staff. He asks him who his opponent will be. Morley says that will remain a secret, but lets him know that he has two opponents. Test doesn’t think it is much of a big deal as he’s won plenty of triple threat matches before and he says that he’ll win this one, too, before leaving Morley’s office.
*Commercial Break 3*
VS.
Shannon Moore vs. Chavo Guerrero
Surprisingly, the match gets out to a rather slow and tame start, but after exchanging holds for the opening two minutes, the pace picks up with Chavo trying to incorporate more impactful moves only to be thwarted by Moore, who uses his fast, high-risk, high-flying style to gain the upper hand and keep Chavo grounded. However, after stringing a series of high-risk maneuvers together, Moore goes for one move too many when he attempts a huricanrana after leaping off of the top turnbuckle, only to have Chavo counter it with a falling powerbomb. Both men get up at the same time. Moore goes into the ropes and tries to take Chavo down with a crucifix pin, but he counters it into a Samoan drop, then hooks the leg for a 2-count. Chavo picks up Moore and gives him the three amigos. He decides to go up to the top turnbuckle and try for the frog splash, but Moore moves out of the way. When Chavo gets to his feet, Moore takes him down with a leaping bulldog. Moore goes up to the top rope and goes for his finisher, the Halo, but Chavo moves and he hits the mat. Both men get up right before the referee counts to 10. They meet in the middle of the ring and Chavo blocks some punch attempts, then lands a few of his own. He goes for a wild haymaker, but Moore ducks it, then pulls Chavo down into a backslide for a 2-count. Moore tries to catch Chavo sleeping with an enzigurri kick, but he ducks it and then gives Moore a Mexican surfboard, but he refuses to quit. Chavo picks up Moore and lifts him over his head to his backside and gives him the Gory bomb! He pins Moore for the 3-count and the victory.
Official Decision: Chavo Guerrero wins by pinfall
*Commercial Break 4*
VS.
Jersey Shore vs. Kaientai
The Jersey Shore comes to the ring accompanied by “Marvelous” Marc Mero and Candice Michelle. They are here, no doubt, to serve as moral support and to try to defend against a Team Canada run-in. However, when it is Kaientai’s turn to come to the ring, they enter into the arena with a microphone. TAKA explains that Kaientai doesn’t like being outnumbered, so it is going to turn the tables on the Jersey Shore and outnumber them, because they are EVIL! Funaki adds, “Indeed!” So running right out the gates are Petey Williams and Eric Young. Mero tries to head them off and gets into a fist fight with Williams. Young slides into the ring and avoids some clothesline attempts and hits Robbie E with a dropkick and then gets into a fight with Robbie T, as Kaientai enter the ring and double team Robbie E. The referee has yet to call for the bell because there are too many guys brawling around the ring. The brawl starts to die down after Robbie T dumps Young into the front row and officials come out to contain him. Meanwhile, Williams and Mero have brawled away from ringside and backstage. The match finally begins with TAKA attacking Robbie E. He’s all over Robbie for about a minute before giving him the Michinoku Driver from out of nowhere. He tags Funaki, then runs to the other corner and dropkicks Robbie T off of the ring apron. Then he goes over the top rope to take him down with a plancha. Meanwhile, Funaki sizes up Robbie E and nails him with a crane kick and covers for the surprise win and a spot in the North American Title fatal fourway match at PRIMETIME LIVE.
Official Decision: Kaientai wins by pinfall
We go backstage to find SoCal Val with Chris Candido and Sunny. Candido is the third of four International Heavyweight title tournament semifinalists that she is interviewing tonight. She asks him if he feels good about his chances of winning the title now that he is in the final four. He confirms that he does. Sunny speaks up and tells Val and her man’s chances are better than those of any of the other semi-finalists. She says that he is the most talented wrestler in Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling and that his undefeated record is a testament of that. Val tells them what Mero said earlier in the evening about hitting her hard and hitting him first. Sunny says that Candido will withstand whatever weak attempt Mero makes to get him to fall because only the strongest will survive this race to the finish and her man is by far the strongest man left in the race. Candido says that there is a spot in the finals at PRIMETIME LIVE with his name on it and he’s going to get it. There’s nothing that Mero can do to stop him.
*Commercial Break 5*
We return from the commercial break to find “No Class” Bobby Bass has crashed the ring and asked for a microphone. He’s got a gripe about being left off of tonight’s card and, as you might have guessed, he refuses to let this show continue without having a match. He knows that most of the guys in the back are too scared to face someone as physically intimidating and dominant in the ring as he is, but someone’s going to have to step up to the plate and get knocked out before this show can go on.
Having heard enough, “The Iceman” Dean Malenko comes out to a small mixed reaction from the fans. He comes in and enters the ring. He tells Bass that he’s here to answer the challenge and asks the referee to call for the bell. Bass takes a moment to call Malenko the biggest idiot in the world for coming out here. He tells him that he’s going to give him such a big beating that he won’t possibly be able to recover in time for his match against Elix Skipper next week. Bass says that this is the match that will cost Malenko the International Heavyweight Championship. For his part, Malenko takes the microphone from Bass and he keeps it simple – he tells Bass to put up or shut up. Bass doesn’t like that Malenko talked back at him and he tries to strike him, but Malenko blocks it and knocks Bass don’t after two punches. The referee calls for the bell to be rung, and we have ourselves an impromptu match.
VS.
“No Class” Bobby Bass vs. “The Iceman” Dean Malenko
Bass gets up after those first two punches from Malenko, but gets put back down into the mat with a dropkick. Malenko waits for Bass to get up, then picks him up onto his shoulders and gives him a gutbuster. Malenko drops his knee down into Bass’ abdomen, then picks up Bass and gives him a gutwrench powerbomb. He flips him over and locks on the Texas cloverleaf. Bass is writhing in pain and almost immediately starts to tap out frantically. Malenko wins this match in under a minute!
Official Decision: Dean Malenko wins by submission
We find Al Snow backstage. He’s got a giant bristle board charted out of the entire Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling roster. It has pictures of faces cut out and glued to it and lines drawn from various faces to others. There are a million lines all over the place. He’s busy studying it and asks Head what she thinks – does this chart reveal any obvious choices to be his tag team partner for his match against the Cuban Assassins at PRIMETIME LIVE? Speaking of the Cuban Assassins, their match against the Junkyard Dog and Bo Dallas is coming up next, after the break!

VS.
Cuban Assassins vs. Junkyard Dog & Bo Dallas
The fight begins before the bell rings. The Cuban Assassins hop out of the ring before JYD and Dallas even make it out of the entrance aisle and they meet them there to start brawling. Cuban Assassin Jr. proves to be just as adept at brawling as his father as he throws Dallas into guardrails and pounds away at him. The fighting continues for a good long while before Cuban Assassin rolls JYD into the ring to get the bell to ring and officially begin the match. He immediately covers JYD, who kicks out at two. Cuban Assassin puts a nerve hold on JYD until CAJR climbs onto the ring apron CASR tags out. CAJR comes in and starts throwing axehandle smashes at him and then drops his knee into JYD’s shoulder quite a few times. He picks up JYD and goes for a whip, but it is reversed and JYD executes a standing spinebuster slam. He stumbles towards his corner and sees that his partner is nowhere to be found. Dallas is on the floor clutching his ribs. CASR enters the ring and charges at JYD, but he moves and CASR hits the turnbuckle. CAJR gets up and JYD whips him into his father, then he charges in and nails an avalanche splash on both of the Cuban Assassins. CAJR comes out of the corner and JYD gives him a sidewalk slam. He hooks the leg, but CASR breaks the pin up. He punches away at JYD and whips him into the ropes. JYD comes back and takes him down with a hard running clothesline. He sees CAJR getting up and takes him down with a hard running clothesline. CASR gets to his feet near the ropes and JYD takes him over the top rope and to the floor with a running clothesline. CAJR gets back up and JYD goes for another running clothesline, but CAJR sees him coming and gives him a back bodydrop. He picks up JYD and tries to send him into the ropes, but he counters it and executes the Thump! He hooks the leg and gets the 3-count to pick up the win for his team. JYD takes care of business, but his partner Bo Dallas may be injured, as EMTs come to check on him and his ribs.
Official Decision: Junkyard Dog & Bo Dallas win by pinfall
*Commercial Break 7*
We return from our final commercial break to find SoCal Val with the ultra-serious man of 1,000 holds, “The Iceman” Dean Malenko, who will be her final interview of each of the International Heavyweight title tournament semi-finalists. She asks him how he feels about his chances of winning the title. Malenko says that his chances are good. Val asks him if that’s all – if they’re just good. He responds by saying, “Yeah. What else do you want me to say?” She simply says that she was expecting a longer response. He asks her why he should say anything more when he, she and everyone else knows that his chances are good. She then asks him about facing “Primetime” Elix Skipper next week for a spot in the finals. He says that he may not be the flashiest man who steps foot in the ring next week, but he’ll be the only one walking out of it a winner. He goes on to say that Skipper might be called “Primetime,” but when all is said and done it’ll be he himself who goes to PRIMETIME LIVE with an opportunity to win the International Heavyweight title and Skipper will be doing nothing but holding the curtain open for him when it is his turn to walk down to the ring for the evening’s main event.
VS.
Handicapped Match
Test vs. Leo Burke & Lance Storm
Test vs. Leo Burke & Lance Storm
Test comes to the ring first. He is waiting for his opponents when both Leo Burke and Lance Storm come to the ring together. The ring announcer makes the official call of the handicapped match and Test’s head nearly explodes. He starts grilling the announcer and the referee with questions, insisting that he’s in a triple threat match, but the referee firmly stands his ground and insists that it is a handicapped match. The bell sounds to begin the match. Test doesn’t look very happy about this turn of events and he’s hesitant to lock up with Storm. The fans are solidly behind Burke and Storm. They circle the ring as Test tries to avoid getting started for as long as he can, but Storm finally catches up to him for a grapple. Test blocks and Storm falls to his knees, allowing Test to drive his elbow into the back of Storm’s neck. He keeps up the attack and, at least early on, seems to be making a mockery of the idea that he is at a disadvantage in this match. However, Storm eventually finds a chance to break up Test’s momentum by ducking a clothesline, bouncing off the ropes and hitting Test with a spinning heel kick. Storm gets up, but Test is up first. He tries to nail him with the running big boot, but Storm ducks it and hits Test with a superkick! He is slow to make the cover and so Test makes the kick out at the count of two. Storm whips Test into the corner and delivers a deliberate blow to the ribs before tagging out. Burke comes in and keeps targeting the ribs. He takes Test down with an armbar and starts dropping his knee into Test’s ribs. Burke executes a vertical suplex and applies a surfboard submission hold. It is starting to look like Test is in a bad way when La Résistance finally decides to crash the party.
Duprée and Grenier enter the ring. Grenier knocks Burke down from behind, while Duprée catches Storm coming into the ring with a spinebuster. Duprée sits down on Storm and starts punching away at his head. Meanwhile, Burke fights back against Grenier. Then, he goes and kicks Duprée to get him off of Storm. Test has recovered and he drops Burke hard into the mat with his running big boot! Then, Grenier pounces. Storm gets up and Test punches him a few times and then gives Storm the Test Grade. With a 3-on-2 beat down firmly in progress, now, Elix Skipper runs down to the ring to even the odds. He takes Grenier down and then finds Test and attacks, but he can’t do much as Duprée nails Skipper with a chair. Test and La Résistance continue the beat down on their enemies until the ring finally floods with officials – led by Chief Morley – to put an end to things.
Official Decision: Leo Burke & Lance Storm win by disqualification
After the officials finally clear Test and La Résistance out of the ring, and the men in the ring recover, Leo Burke asks for a microphone. He stops La Résistance from leaving the arena when he speaks up. They turn around to look at him. Burke says that the bullshit that he’s had to deal with from René Duprée since day one, and now also Sylvain Grenier, has gone on long enough. He can’t stay in Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling for as long as La Résistance is there acting like childish brats. He looks at Chief Morley and tells him to give Emile Duprée a simple message – it’s them or us – either they leave or we leave. La Résistance looks happy about having gotten under Burke’s skin. Burke gives the microphone to Chief Morley and says he isn’t leaving without getting a straight answer out of him – can he have what he wants? Morley looks at Storm and asks him if he’s okay with this and he responds that Morley told them they could have a match against La Résistance if they agreed to help him with his handicapped match. Then he adds, in all seriousness, they want a match against La Résistance and they want the losers to have to leave town. After a moment of hesitation, Morley announces that Leo Burke & Lance Storm will face La Résistance in a Losers Leave Town Match at PRIMETIME LIVE!
