AEW Dynamite
May 1, 2024
After a recap video from Dynasty, ending with the surprise appearance of Sting, the show immediately starts with the now signature stormy skies and Sting’s music, to a huge ovation from the crowd. He walks out, sporting his classic Crow look and a long trench coat, and carrying a bat.
Sting - “Man, it feels good to be back in a wrestling ring.” He stops to bask in the cheers. “The truth is — I wasn’t sure I wanted to return, even after signing with AEW a few months back. I was content working behind the scenes, helping to mold young talent. I was even enjoying watching the son of one of my oldest friends have success at the top of our sport. And then that man, the American Nightmare, started turning sour. And that’s when I decided that it was time to dust off my boots and teach that man a lesson. Now, Cody’s not here tonight. He’s running a little scared…” Sting gets cut off by Scotty Flamingo’s music. Flamingo, sporting some bandages and a slight limp, comes to the stage.
Flamingo - “Scotty Flamingo shouldn’t even be out here tonight, after the hellish match at Dynasty. But I couldn’t sit back and watch you come out here and go straight for a title shot. I don’t care who you are…” Sting says Scotty looks familiar, and asks if he used to wear eyeliner before Scotty continues. “As you can clearly see, I’m in no condition to compete tonight. But as I always say: The future is Flamingo. And your near future, Sting, is in the ring with me.”
By this time, Flamingo has reached the ring and is standing face to face with Sting, who smiles and turns his back. Flamingo grabs at Sting, who twists around and sends him into the corner, where he hits a Stinger Splash to a big ovation, and we head to commercial with Flamingo slumping down.

Match 1 - Bobby Fish (0-0) vs. Luchasaurus (2-5)
Fish wins after a Flying Fish Hook (flying knee) in 7 minutes.
—
Promo for Zack Sabre Jr., who will make his in-ring Dynamite debut on Collision.
—
Fish is walking backstage after his match and is approached by Matt and Nick Jackson. They ask what the Undisputed Era was doing when Cole and O’Reilly teamed up with Goldberg at Dynasty. Fish tried shoving past them, but they got in his way. Matt tells Bobby he could have been Elite, but is instead teaming with a pack of losers. Bobby sneers at them and says if they want to fight, he’s free right now. They slowly back away, as Goldberg walks up behind Fish with a big smile on his face.
—
Match 2 - Top Flight (2-1) vs. The Acclaimed (10-9)
The Acclaimed win with the Mic Drop in 10 minutes.
—
Dean Malenko and Jake Hager made another appearance on Inside the NBA this week, with Shaq. Malenko let Shaq hold the TNT Championship again, and said he is welcome in AEW any time. Shaq said, how about next Wednesday? Shaq will be in attendance next Wednesday on Dynamite.

Beth Phoenix is out to the ring next. She wants to talk about Willow Nightingale, and how she cost Phoenix a shot at the AEW Women’s Championship after attacking Phoenix like a coward, after Phoenix beat her in the gauntlet match a few weeks ago. Phoenix had respect for Nightingale, but she’s thrown that all away. Tonight, Phoenix is going to get a measure of revenge.
—
Match 3 - Malakai Black (14-7) vs. Chad Gable (2-0)
Gable wins with a rollup at 14 minutes.
—
Scotty Flamingo is backstage, looking for JBL. He finds the GM, and says that he thinks Sting should be suspended from AEW for attacking him. JBL gets a puzzled look on his face, and says it looked to him like Flamingo provoked Sting. In fact, doesn’t Flamingo want to fight the Stinger?
JBL says that Flamingo vs. Sting sounds like a heckuva main event for this weekend’s Collision.
—
Willow Nightingale is backstage with Taz. She says that she wasn’t afraid of Beth Phoenix before, and she’s not afraid of her now. Nightingale knows that she’s the future of women’s wrestling. And she wants to use Phoenix’s face as the launching pad toward that future.
—
Match 4 - Solo Sikoa (3-2) vs. Carlito (2-3)
Sikoa wins with the Samoan Spike in 6 minutes.
After Carlito clears the ring, the True Bloodline comes out. Rikishi hugs Sikoa and says he made him proud tonight. But in three weeks’ time, his twin sons Jimmy and Jey Uso are going to make him even prouder by defeating the New Day yet again, and becoming AEW World Tag Team Champions. Rikishi turns his attention to Roman Reigns, and warns Roman to stay far away from the True Bloodline. If Roman interferes in any way with them, he will face the consequences.

Next to the ring is the stable, Natural Selection — Brian Cage, Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander, with Tay Melo now on-board. Cage grabs a mic and asks the guys in the back to roll the footage from Dynasty, when Melo pushed Guevara off the top rope, and Cage hit the Drill Claw for the win, followed by Cage and Melo kissing on the top of the ramp.
Cage - “For two years, I have dominated all of AEW. I put the International Championship on the map and made it one of the most sought-after titles in all of wrestling. Natural Selection as a group has won the trios tournament, dominated the tag team division and has put our stamp on the roster. And then, when I was figuring out our next step, I had to watch that shrimpy, wise-ass Sammy Guevara not only give up his TNT Championship, but go on to squander his chance at the World Championship. Only to then have to start climbing the ladder again. All the while, he’s being featured on TV weekly and given every opportunity to shine. Everyone watching around the world knows how his story ends: He gets a lot of cheap wins against low-level talent; eventually faces some adversity that he overcomes; gets a title shot in like 6 months or a year; and becomes an AEW Champion who is adored by everyone. The problem is, Sammy Guevara is a jackass. And he doesn’t have what it takes to be champion. Which brings me to Miss Tay Melo here. We are Natural Selection because we are at the top of the food chain. And Tay Melo is the total package. But I’m going to let her speak for herself as to why she joined us.”
Melo says she knows that Sammy is in the back watching. She wants him to come out to the stage so she can tell him, face-to-face, why she left him. He eventually comes out and stands on the stage, with his arms crossed.
Melo - “I made my decision because you’re weak, Sammy. You couldn’t do what it took to become champion. You had the chance to knock Cody out before he caused the disqualification, and you didn’t take it. You want to take the high road? Look where it’s gotten you: Title-less and alone. Now I have true support. I can focus on my own journey to the top, and I have the backing of true champions.”
Sammy - “Shut up. This is about a lot more than a championship. It’s about more than wins and losses. Brian, you’ve ***** with my life. Tay, you broke my heart. And I’m going to do everything in my power to prove you wrong.” He turns and walks to the back as we hit the commercial.
