AEW Dynamite
Feb. 21, 2024
AEW World Champion Cody Rhodes comes out to the ring, accompanied by his wife, Brandi. He looks at the championship before handing it to Brandi to hold and taking the mic.
Cody - “In the nearly two years since AEW’s inception, I’ve made it my mission to lead the company as its champion. Although I was born into this business and seemingly had the world as my oyster, I’ve scratched and clawed to get to where I am today. My daddy was the American Dream, the Son of a Plumber; he was not seen as the ideal champion. Had a lisp; too fat; a little goofy looking; wore polka dots. But he became one of the most respected champions in wrestling history. One of the most respected people in this business. Because he worked his ass off. And I’ve tried to work my ass off to make him proud and to be the best champion I can be. I stand here as the only two-time AEW champion, and the longest-reigning champion in our brief history. And I will do everything within my power to continue after Revolution as AEW Champion.” This brings out his challenger for this Saturday, Sammy Guevara, with his wife Tay Melo. He stands face-to-face.
Sammy - “A year ago this time, I criticized this company after Rey Mysterio was named as the so-called Face of the Revolution. Tony Khan — and now JBL — have relied too much on wrestling’s past to determine AEW’s present and future. All you have to do is look at the history of our World Championship: Jeff Jarrett, Cody Rhodes and Bill Goldberg. Two members of wrestling royalty, and the most dominant wrestler in WCW history. Looking across the landscape, we’ve got Triple H as a champion; Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander; Alexa Bliss; Ronda Rousey. It’s time for someone new to hold a title in AEW. This Sunday, that title will be around my waist. I know that I’ve taken shortcuts in the past. This time, I’m taking no shortcuts. I’m doing it on my own.” Cody steps up to him and says, “May the best man win” and shakes his hand, pulling him in and whispering something to Sammy before shoving past him and leaving the ring with Brandi.

Match 1 - Matt Riddle, Carlito & Hook vs. Jeff Cobb, Miro & Dean Malenko (Logan Paul on Commentary)
Every time Cobb is in the match, Riddle demands to be tagged in. This eventually bites him, as Cobb hits the Tour of the Islands for a nearfall. The end of the match comes when Hook hits a T-Bone Suplex on Malenko, then Carlito hits the Backstabber on him for the pinfall victory at 9:49. Jake Hager, who was at ringside with Malenko, responded right away and clotheslined Carlito. Cobb, Miro, Malenko and Hager got the upper hand on the other 3 until Logan Paul said he wanted to get involved and vaulted himself into the ring. The four faces cleared the ring and stood tall…until Carlito hit Paul with a Backstabber! Riddle asked what he was doing, and Carlito responded that it’s every man for himself on Saturday, and he’s walking out as TNT Champion. Riddle - “Not cool, bro. Not cool.”

Paul Heyman and Wardlow come to the ring, and Wardlow looks upset.
Heyman - “Two men wronged Wardlow this past Saturday, and I can guarantee they’ll both pay for it in the near future. First is Jon Moxley, the so-called Lunatic Fringe. I agree that you’d have to be a lunatic to put Wardlow through a table the week before your big match with him. Mox, Wardlow is going to destroy you this weekend. This match was originally just about winning the Owen Hart Cup. Now it’s about destruction.
“And the other man who wronged Wardlow? Logan Paul. While this man was getting viciously put through the announce table, you celebrated your win in the ring. We have long memories and won’t forget the slight. Consider yourself warned.”
—
Match 2 - Rob Van Dam (5-4) vs. Jey Uso (0-1)
RVD and Uso have a great back-and-forth match that Uso pulls off after getting his knees up during a Frog Splash attempt and hitting a super kick for the pin at 12 minutes.
—
The Beautiful People — including TBS Champion Alexa Bliss — are talking backstage. Bliss says that she is going to end Kris Statlander’s little run of success this Saturday.
Madison Rayne, who will face Britt Baker in the Owen Hart Cup Finals, says that the Beautiful People run the AEW Women’s Division. They’ll show it this Saturday, and Angelina Love will show it tonight when she teaches Paige VanZant a lesson.

The Bloodline heads out to the ring, but before Roman Reigns can get started, The Elite come out. As Kenny Omega goes to speak, Goldberg’s music hits. He gets to the ring and looks at everyone’s sidekicks and asks if the three of them can have a private conversation.
Reigns - “This Saturday is historic. Three of the most dominant champions in wrestling history will share the ring. And only one of us can come out on top.”
Goldberg - “I don’t give a damn about making history by stepping into the ring. I care only about making history by spearing both of you, pinning you and moving on with my life.” He turns toward Omega. “And you? I’m going to put you out of action for longer than you put me out. Except I’m going to do it with my body instead of a car.”
Omega - “The only history getting made this weekend is me kicking both of your heads in, winning the match and moving on to becoming a champion — finally — in AEW.”
Reigns - “It’s time for the Bloodline to ascend to the top of AEW and for both of you to…know your role.” He steps up to Goldberg and recalls Goldberg’s spear on him last week. “Especially you. I expect chicken-**** stuff from that one. But not from Bill Goldberg.”
Goldberg steps up to Reigns’ face. Omega sneaks up behind them and grabs their heads, smacking them together. They shrug it off and both turn toward Omega…who gets wide-eyed and runs off, sliding out of the ring and up the ramp along with the Young Bucks. Goldberg turns to watch them leave as Reigns backs away…when Goldberg turns back around, Reigns hits him with a huge spear! He stands over Goldberg and stares down Omega as we hit commercial.

Match 3 - Paige VanZant (17-8) vs. Angelina Love (5-10)
VanZant gets the win with an armbar in 7:32.
—
LAX is backstage. Konnan talks about The Acclaimed and says they taught them a lesson last week. They’ll teach the entire tag team division a lesson during this weekend’s battle royal.
—
Match 4 - The OC & Young Bucks vs. FTR & The Acclaimed
Wilder wins with a pinfall on Matt Jackson after a Gory Bomb in 11 minutes. During the match, LAX attacked the Acclaimed and pulled them from the match, while the Blackpool Combat Club ran out to fight with The OC. After the pinfall, the six teams brawl in the ring and at ringside until Hernandez hits a Border Toss on Max Caster through the announce table, while the OC attacks Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta with chairs. Security finally breaks things up.
—
After the break, the Blackpool Combat Club is backstage and Taz catches up with them for comments. Mox says that The OC is really starting to piss them off. The three members of the BCC are reasonable people, but reasonable people can only handle so much before they break. And they’re about to break.
Mox also addresses Wardlow. He’s not scared of facing bigger men. He hopes that Wardlow is wound up and ready to fight, because Mox is ready, too.
—
Triple H is out to the ring after the break, wearing the AEW International Championship and accompanied by the New Age Outlaws.
Triple H - “This weekend, Brian Cage, you are going to feel the consequences of pissing off The Game.” Cage’s music hits, and he comes out alone. He remarks that, though Benjamin and Alexander are his ride-or-die partners, he doesn’t need them to fight his battles. He gets in Triple H’s face and reminds The Game that he is The Machine. And machines don’t feel fear. They can fight all over the arena and out in the streets of Houston; and The Machine is leaving Revolution as International Champion.
As they’re staring down, Benjamin and Alexander emerge from underneath the ring (McAfee: “Wait, have they been there all night? Is there a buffet under there? Where’d they go to the bathroom?”) and attack the Outlaws with chairs before Triple H also turns into a chair. Cage hits him with a Spinebuster and the Drill Claw on a chair before the New Day — Natural Selection’s Revolution Opponents — run out with weapons of their own to clear the ring and stand beside DX.

Main Event - Jade Cargill and Ronda Rousey vs. Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair
Banks hits a frog splash on Rousey for a nearfall. Rousey then locks in a kimura, looking for a tapout. Banks applies pressure on Rousey’s back and gets the 3-count for the win after 14 minutes. Rousey keeps the kimura locked in and Banks taps, trying to get Rousey to let go.
Belair tries coming to Banks’ aide, but Cargill hits her with a big boot and the Jaded Finisher, as Banks fades and goes out. The show ends with Cargill and Rousey standing tall over their fallen opponents for this weekend’s Revolution.
