AEW Dynamite
Jan. 31, 2024
After the intro video, Goldberg’s music hits and the crowd goes wild. As he’s entering, the commentary team of Coach and Pat McAfee runs down that he was hit by a car in December by, in all likelihood, Kenny Omega. Goldberg was away for over a month recuperating until he returned this past weekend to Spear and Jackhammer Omega, which helped Scotty Flamingo eliminate Omega from the Owen Hart Cup.
Goldberg - “I am pumped to be cleared and ready to wrestle back in AEW. And, I won’t lie, it’s nice to be cheered. My sole purpose in coming back right now is to cause Kenny Omega pain and crush him in a match at Revolution. I figured I would help clear his schedule for February 24.” He pauses…and Roman Reigns’ music hits. The leader of the Bloodline comes down to the ring alone and stands face-to-face with Goldberg.
Reigns - “Welcome back. It’s always great to have another legend around here. But I’m afraid you’re going to have to get in the back of the line. I’ve got my own issues with Omega, and since I’m at the head of the table, you can wait your turn.” Goldberg asks if Reigns wants to fight about it. Reigns nods his head, and they ask for a ref - but JBL’s music hits.
JBL - “Hold your horses. I’m not about to have Roman Reigns vs. Bill Goldberg on Dynamite with no advertisement in front of these lame Alabama fans.” Booooo. “But if both of you are itching to throw fists, I can give you that chance tonight. You’ll each get a mystery opponent later tonight. If you win? You get to face Omega at Revolution.”
—
Match 1 - Shawn Spears (11-8) vs. Eric Young (1-5)
Spears wins with the C4 after about 6 minutes.
—
Backstage, the Elite approach JBL. Omega asks what the hell he’s thinking. JBL should suspend Goldberg for attacking him, not reward him for it. And what happens if both Reigns and Goldberg win? Matt Jackson steps forward then and says, “Furthermore - when we beat New Day tonight, do we get their world tag title shot?”
JBL smiles broadly and says, “I’m sure you’ll figure it all out.” and he walks off.
As he’s walking, Brian Cage, Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander approach. Cage says he never lost the International Championship, and he wants to regain it as soon as possible. JBL says he’ll take it under consideration; Cage responds by getting in his face and saying that JBL had better consider it soon.
—
DX is out to the ring next, and Triple H is wearing the International Championship he won last week. After the New Age Outlaws do their ring introduction, Triple H grabs the mic.
Triple H - “Last week wasn't just about a victory; it was about a declaration. A declaration that I am here not just to dominate in one corner of the world but to reign supreme on a global scale. Brian Cage, if you want a shot at winning this championship again, I’m right here. I've always been a game-changer, and now, it's time to change the entire landscape. Get ready, because where the Game goes, the world follows. This is not just a championship; it's a world tour, and the Game has just begun.”
—
Match 2 - Roman Reigns (3-1) vs. Luchasaurus (0-0)
Luchasaurus puts up a valiant fight, but Reigns wins at 10:48 with a Superman Punch. Kenny Omega was watching from the stage, angrily. Reigns looked toward him after the match, but Omega just stomped off.
—
The Beautiful People — led by TBS Champion Alexa Bliss — are talking backstage. Bliss tells Angelina Love that she needs to take care of that alien, Kris Statlander, tonight. Bliss doesn’t want to have to defend her title against such an ugly woman any time soon.
—
Pre-taped promo with Beth Phoenix, talking about her chance to become AEW Women’s Champion. Only Sasha Banks stands in her way. This new crop of women forget that she paved the way for women to be beautiful and strong, and don’t respect her any more. She is going to close the bank tonight, then walk into Revolution and walk out as champion.
—
Match 3 - New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) vs. The Young Bucks (If New Day wins, they get a shot at the tag team championships)
New Day and the Bucks put on a banger of a match, with the Bucks flying all over the place. Kingston gets an early nearfall after a Trouble in Paradise. And the Bucks later hit a superkick party and a Meltzer Driver on Woods, but it’s broken up. The New Day wins after Woods hits Lost in the Woods on Matt Jackson in 14:32.
—
Backstage, Natural Selection is watching on the TV, looking upset.
—
Pre-taped promo with Sasha Banks. She is a former Universal Women’s Champion and the inaugural AEW TBS Champion. And she would have been the AEW Women’s Champion last week if it wasn’t for Beth Phoenix. Banks is the Legit Boss and it’s her destiny to become the AEW Women’s Champion.
—
Match 4 - Kris Statlander (7-2) vs. Angelina Love (5-8) w/ Beautiful People
Statlander wins with the Big Bang Theory at 4:19. After the match, Alexa Bliss slides in to stand face to face with Statlander and holds up the title. While she does that, Madison Rayne sneaks up behind Statlander and hits the CrossRaynes. The beatdown is on until Willow Nightingale (Raynes’ opponent at Collison) runs down with a chair. She swings it at Bliss, who immediately drops and rolls out of the ring. She catches Velvet Sky with the chair, but the other Beautiful People scatter as Nightingale helps Statlander up.
—
The Blackpool Combat Club are out to the ring next. Moxley talks up last week’s win over Kevin Nash, then notes that he’ll be teaming with Wardlow against their Owen Hart cup semifinal opponents Scotty Flamingo and Dean Malenko this weekend.
Mox moves onto the OC. He says that if the OC wants to make a name for themselves at the expense of the Blackpool Combat Club, they should be careful what they ask for.
—
Match 5 - Bill Goldberg vs. Hernandez w/ Homicide
Homicide and Konnan try interfering in the match, but The Acclaimed run down and chase them off. As Goldberg has Hernandez up in the Jackhammer, Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks run down to the ring and attack Goldberg, giving him the DQ win at 8:10. They hit the BTE Trigger, and Omega hits the V-Trigger. Then they enlist Hernandez, who hits the Border Toss on Goldberg as the Elite grab a chair and wrap it around Goldberg’s head. Before they can go further, the entire Bloodline runs down and clears the ring.
Afterwards, Goldberg gets to his feet, and he and Reigns stare each other down. Reigns offers his hand, which Goldberg takes and pulls Reigns in close. He tells Reigns to stay out of his way, then walks off.

AEW TNT Champion Sammy Guevara is out to the ring next, accompanied by Tay Melo.
Guevara - “I am in this ring as the luckiest man alive. I’ve got my beautiful wife next to me and the TNT Championship around my waist. It’s the championship that I’ve helped make into a premiere title in this company. Not to mention the Dynamite Diamond Ring, which I’ve held onto for the past two years. Until now, I’ve used that as a crutch to get to where I am today, one of the top stars in the entire company. It’s time — everyone saw me get under Cody Rhodes’ skin last week, when he sucker-punched me because I was right about him. He’s worked his entire life to be World Champion. And now that he’s there, the ultimate good guy; the grandson of a Plumber; the American Nightmare; he’s holding on for dear life because he doesn’t know what he’ll do without the title. But now it’s my time. Sammy Guevara is ready to ascend to the top of All Elite Wrestling. Cody, I want you at Revolution. With the AEW World Championship on the line.”

Main Event - AEW Women’s Championship #1 Contender - Beth Phoenix vs. Sasha Banks - Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey joins commentary
Banks uses her speed and agility to dodge Phoenix’s power moves, while Phoenix relies on her strength and experience to counter Sasha Banks’s submissions. The crowd is divided, cheering for both competitors.
Banks gains momentum and hits a double knee drop, a tilt-a-whirl headscissors, and a meteora. She goes for the pin, but Phoenix kicks out at 2. Banks locks in the Bank Statement, but Phoenix manages to reach the ropes and break the hold.
Phoenix recovers and catches Sasha Banks with a clothesline, followed by a backbreaker. She lifts Banks up for the Glam Slam, but it’s reversed into a roll-up for 2. Banks tries for the frog splash, but Phoenix moves out of the way and Banks crashes onto the mat.
Phoenix connects finally with the Glam Slam, covering Banks for the pin, but Sasha Banks somehow kicks out at the last second, shocking Phoenix and the audience.
Phoenix goes to the top rope. She signals for a diving elbow drop, but Banks gets up and runs to the corner. She jumps and hits Beth Phoenix with a forearm, knocking her off balance. She then climbs up to the top rope and hooks Beth Phoenix’s arm. She hits a huge superplex, spilling both women to the mat. Banks is just able to roll over and drape her arm over Phoenix. The referee counts to three and Sasha Banks wins the chance to face Rousey at Revolution, after a 16-minute match. The show ends with Banks celebrating, pointing at Rousey and motioning around her waist.
