AEW’s Big Collision Event
Jan. 20, 2024
Taz, Coach and Paul Heyman are on commentary tonight, and we’re headed straight for the first match as Mankind makes his entrance for his TNT Championship match with Sammy Guevara, who makes his entrance alongside Tay Melo. Melo stops on the stage and Guevara hands her the Dynamite Diamond Ring, satisfying Mankind’s stipulation for the match. The announcers mention that no matches will be interrupted by commercials thanks to sponsors Tekken 8.We get a video recap of their feud that began last summer after Mick Foley gave his seal of approval to Britt Baker using her version of the Mandible Claw, which she used against Melo. Guevara would defend his TNT Championship against Dude Love in the late summer. Then Foley (as Cactus Jack) eliminated Guevara from the Casino Battle Royale at All Out. Guevara challenged Jack to another match at Grand Slam, which he won after using the Dynamite Diamond Ring. They clashed again at Full Gear in a mixed tag match, which saw Mankind and Baker come out on top with dual mandible claws. Foley got through to Guevara a couple weeks ago and challenged him to one final match inside a steel cage, with Guevara unable to use his usual tricks like Melo and the ring to win.
Match 1 - AEW TNT Championship: Sammy Guevara © (22-7) vs. Mankind (6-3)
Steel Cage (Pinfalls and Submissions Only)
- After a feeling-out phase, Mankind whips Guevara into the ropes, but Guevara responds with a springboard kick that knocks Mankind down.
- Standing, Mankind hits a series of punches, followed by the “Bang! Bang!” taunt and a Double arm DDT for an early pinfall attempt.
- Mankind’s size advantage works for him early on. He hits a swinging neckbreaker, then hangs Guevara in a tree of woe in the corner before ramming his knee into Guevara’s face multiple times.
- When trying for a German suplex, Guevara flips back and lands on his feet, hitting a Pele kick that staggers Mankind.
- Guevara leaps onto Mankind’s shoulders, spins around and ‘ranas him face first into the cage, before rolling him up for a 2-count.
- He shifts quickly into a crossface, trying to get Mankind to tap out. While that’s locked in, Mankind reaches into his pants and pulls out Mr. Socko, which gets a huge reaction. He stuffs Socko into Guevara’s mouth, applying the Mandible Claw.
- Guevara lets go of the hold and starts gagging. He rakes Mankind’s eyes to break the Claw.
- Mankind suplexes Guevara, then heads to the top rope for an elbow drop that connects. Pin attempt gets 2.
- Guevara gets some momentum, hitting a tilt-a-whirl DDT and a springboard moonsault before heading to the top rope for his 630 degree splash, which connects. 1…2…No!
- Taz - “What do these guys have to do to get the win!?”
- After some more back-and-forth, Mankind hits another Double Arm DDT. But instead of going for the pin, he looks at the top of the cage and begins to climb. As he reaches the top, Guevara recovers and scampers up the cage to meet him.
- Both men are standing on the top of the cage, punching back and forth. Finally, Guevara gets the upper hand and places his arm around Mankind…and hits a Spanish Fly off the top of the cage into the ring! Setting off a series of “Holy s***” chants by the crowd. Both men are lying lifeless on the mat, and Guevara’s arm is over Mankind’s shoulders. The ref counts to 3 and Guevara retains the TNT Championship after 25 minutes.
The crowd gives them a standing ovation. Melo runs down to the ring to check on Guevera. She gives him the championship, which he hugs to his chest. Mankind also stirs and sits up. The two competitors look at each other, and Guevara extends his hand. Mankind shakes it as we head to commercials.

The Elite are backstage, with the Young Bucks surrounding Kenny Omega.
Omega - “Hello, wrestling fans. I'm sure you all saw what happened last week on Dynamite. Scotty Flamingo, the so-called "Surfing Sensation", decided to make a statement by attacking me and my friends, the Young Bucks, with a surfboard. You made a big mistake. You crossed the line. You messed with the wrong guy. You see, I'm not just any wrestler. I'm the best wrestler in the world. And I don't take kindly to being disrespected and humiliated by some wannabe surfer who thinks he's cool.
“So, here's what's going to happen. Next week on Collision, you and I are going to have a match. A match where I'm going to make you pay for what you did. And when it's all over, you're going to wish you never picked up that surfboard. You're going to wish you never stepped into the ring with me. You're going to wish you never crossed paths with Kenny Omega. You're about to find out why they call me the Cleaner. And why I'm the one who knocks. Goodbye and good night. Bang!”

The Beautiful People are being interviewed by Pat McAfee, who first asks Madison Rayne about her thoughts on Willow Nightingale, who she will face in the 2nd round of the Owen Hart Cup.
Rayne - “Willow, you’re about to get a rude awakening from the Queen Bee. Your success over the past year is only because Tony Khan has been protecting you. Unfortunately for you, that protection is now gone. Your quest toward the Owen Hart Cup ends soon.” McAfee shifts to Alexa Bliss, asking her about defeating Sasha Banks again.
Bliss - “I’ve made good on my promise to make the women’s division more beautiful. I am the perfect role model for young girls as long as they’re pretty. Sasha Banks is the opposite of me in every imaginable way. I am just at the beginning of my TBS Championship reign.”

Match 2 - UWA Women’s Championship Eliminator Match: Jade Cargill (38-0) © vs. Michelle McCool (7-11)
Bianca Belair is watching from ringside.
McCool gets a few early shots in, but Cargill catches her with a big boot and the Jaded Finisher to get her 39th win in 2 minutes.
Belair gets in the ring and challenges Cargill. Belair will be happy to become UWA Women’s Champion and be the 1 in Cargill’s 39-1 record. Cargill responds that she can name the time and place. But, this time, when Cargill crushes Belair’s hopes and dreams, Belair can never challenge Cargill for the Universal Women’s Championship again.

Paul Heyman and Wardlow come out to the ring. Heyman has the mic. “In one week’s time, the man they call WARDLOW will take his next step toward winning the tournament. It won’t be easy. The Redeemer is no joke, but my man Wardlow is the Next Big Thing in AEW, and he won’t. Be. Stopped. By anyone, whether it’s Miro or the man at the Head of the Table. The King of Kings or the Swiss Superman.”

Match 3 - Alexa Bliss and Ronda Rousey vs. Beth Phoenix and Sasha Banks
The four competitors each get their big moves in. The match ends after Phoenix hits the Glam Slam on Rousey, Bliss tackles Phoenix to the outside after Banks tags in. Banks hits the Frog Splash and pins Rousey after 10 minutes. Rousey looks upset as she’s taken falls in the past two multi-woman tag matches.

Scotty Flamingo is standing on a beach, wearing a Hawaiian shirt and holding his surfboard.
Flamingo - “Aloha, wrestling fans. I'm sure you all heard what Kenny Omega had to say about me. He's not actually mad because I gave him and his buddies a taste of my surfboard on Dynamite. He's mad because I'm prettier than him. He can talk all you want, but he can't back it up. You think you're the best wrestler in the world? You think you're the Cleaner? You think you're the one who knocks? Ha! You're nothing but a joke. Omega, you're about to find out why they call me the Surfing Sensation. Hang loose and good luck. You'll need it.”

Fall 3 - Buried Alive Match
- A graveside setting has been next to the entrance all night, including a shallow grave (maybe 4 feet vs. 6), shovels and a backhoe. After another 2-minute break, they start brawling again.
- This time, it turns into a bit more of a street fight. They brawl at ringside and spill into the crowd, fighting up the aisles and back down before spilling out onto the ramp.
- Black hits a brutal piledriver on the ramp and drags Rhodes toward the grave. Before he can toss him in, Rhodes recovers and whips Black into the Dynamite sign in the center of the stage. It shatters.
- CrossRhodes on the stage. Rhodes grabs a large piece of glass and cuts Black’s face. Black stumbles away in pain toward the grave. He grabs a shovel and whips around, hitting Rhodes in the face and seemingly knocking him out.
- Black rolls Rhodes into the grave and starts shoveling, but Rhodes eventually crawls out and the two men exchange punches.
- Black tries for the Black Mass, but Rhodes ducks and spins behind where he sets up for the CrossRhodes, but instead lifts him up into a reverse suplex, and both fall into the grave.
- They fight in close quarters, with Rhodes eventually locking in a sleeper hold. He wears Black down until Black fades, and eventually Rhodes lets go and climbs out. He starts shoveling in dirt. Black rises, but Rhodes smacks him in the face with the shovel, knocking him back out.
- Rhodes gets in the backhoe and dumps the rest of the dirt on Black, winning the match and retaining the AEW World Championship after 20 minutes in the buried alive section, setting the total match time at 55 minutes, including breaks.
Rhodes stands over the grave, holding the championship high as the show comes to an end.
