AEW Dynamite
Jan. 10, 2024
After the intro, TNT Champion Sammy Guevara comes to the ring with Tay Melo. He introduces Tay, mentioning that she won her first round match in the Owen Hart Cup and will have her chance at revenge on Britt Baker in a couple of weeks. But he wants to talk about Mankind.
Guevara - “I’m not sure what makes you think you deserve yet another shot at the TNT Championship, Mick. But if you want pain, I’ll help you feel some pain. You need to worry a lot less about how I’m winning my matches and a bit more that I always seem to come out on top.” Foley’s music hits and he comes out to the ring, holding his Mankind mask in his hand. He faces Guevara and starts talking.
Foley - “Sammy, I think you misunderstand where I’m coming from. I said it on Collision, and I’ll say it here: I’ve put my own body through more pain in my career than you could ever put me through. Hell in a Cell; Death matches; barbed wire; glass; thumbtacks; exploding rings. I’ve been bitten, scratched, piledrived, thrown off tall structures, and crashed through flaming tables. I can handle getting punched in the face by a diamond ring. You needed it to beat Cactus Jack; and you needed Ms. Melo’s assistance to beat Dude Love. Just like you needed the ring to beat Jeff Cobb.
“But here’s where I want to challenge you, Sammy: You cut a promo about a year ago, upset that established guys like Rey Mysterio and Bill Goldberg were getting handed opportunities while you’re here day-in and day-out working your ass off as a pillar of this company. And that’s true. It’s also true that you’ve been taking shortcuts to get where you are today. So we’re going to strip the shortcuts away: Sammy Guevara vs. Mankind in a steel cage for the TNT Championship. Pinfalls and submissions only. No escape. And nobody at ringside to slip you a weapon. Beat me, fair-and-square. I dare you.”
Guevara says that Foley doesn’t understand. Foley is old and doesn’t deserve a third shot at the TNT Championship.
Foley - “I know I’m breaking protocol here, but…I TRIPLE DOG DARE YOU!” Guevara smiles at that and nods his head before tossing an elbow at Foley, and they exchange punches. Foley gets the upper hand and clotheslines Guevara over the top rope. Guevara and Melo regroup and head to the back.

The Outlaws get the win following a Shake, Rattle and Roll by Road Dog and the Pumphandle Slam, at 8:39.

Jade Cargill gives a pre-taped promo from a private jet. She says that her schedule as the UWA Universal Women’s Champion is packed, and she doesn’t really have time for so-called championship eliminator matches. But it will let her get one step closer to 40 wins. So, she’ll see Michelle McCool on Jan. 20 for Collision. The match will be short and sweet, because she’s got other places to be.

Backstage, The New Day is chatting. Both Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston lost in the first round of the Owen Hart Cup on Saturday and are bummed out. Big E tells them to buck up, it’ll be alright. Tonight, he’s got a match against Triple H, with the winner getting a shot at Brian Cage’s International Championship on Jan. 20.

AEW World Champion Cody Rhodes and his upcoming challenger Malakai Black are out to the ring next, sitting across from each other at a table, covered in a black tablecloth with the AEW logo. Taz is also sitting there, and there is a wheel with a variety of match types listed. Taz says that we are going to find out the middle stage of next week’s 3 Stages of Hell title match at the Big Collision Event. The first stage is a standard match, and the third would be a buried alive match.
Taz says that it’s the champions’ advantage to spin the wheel. Rhodes spins, and it lands on a a Tables match. Black says he doesn’t intend to let it get to the buried alive match; and Rhodes had better pray that it doesn’t get there because Black is going to bury Rhodes’ career if it gets there.
This brought both men face-to-face, Black putting his nose to Rhodes, who responded by shoving him. Black hits back with a knee to Rhodes’ face, then spins around to grab Rhodes around the waist for a German suplex. Taz tries to get between them, but catches an elbow for his troubles. The scuffle ends with Black hitting a vertical suplex on Rhodes through the table and holding the championship high over his head.

Match 4 - Claudio Castagnoli (0-0) w/ Moxley and Yuta vs. Eric Young (1-4)
Castagnoli gets the win following a giant swing and the Swiss Death (Pop-up European Uppercut) at 6:14.
Following the match, Mox grabs a mic and talks about his win over Woods on Collision, as well as Yuta and Castagnoli’s wins now on Dynamite. “The Blackpool Combat Club is all about no-nonsense competition. While I’m going through the tournament competition, Claudio and Wheeler are going to enter the tag team ranks for a bit. Everyone else is on notice.”

Jeff Jarrett is backstage talking with JBL and Shawn Spears. He asks them if they’re going to be in his corner this Saturday at Collision against Wardlow. Spears says that The Apex is no longer a thing, and he now sees why he was here in the first place: To be a barrier for Jarrett to hide behind. He’s done playing third fiddle. Spears walks out and Jarrett looks at JBL.
JBL - “I’ve been in the ring with Wardlow and against him. And I sure as hell don’t want to be on his bad side. Your best bet? Take some time off now before he hurts you and forces you to take some time off.” JBL walks away, too, as Jarrett looks on, worried.
—
Match 5 - Beth Phoenix (12-5) vs. Skye Blue
Phoenix wins with the Glam Slam in 1:12. As she is celebrating her win, AEW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey emerges from the crowd and smashes Phoenix in the back of the head with the championship belt, before locking in the sleeper hold. She won’t let go of it, as Phoenix is passed out, until security pulls her off.
—
Backstage, Castagnoli and Yuta from the Blackpool Combat Club are laid out, as Moxley comes running up. He had ducked into the bathroom, and during the few minutes he was gone, Castagnoli and Yuta were attacked. He asked who did it. They said they didn’t see.

Main Event - For a shot at the AEW International Championship: Big E (10-3) vs. Triple H (1-0)
They shake hands before the match, then go at it, exchanging big blows. Triple H gets an early advantage with a kneelift, followed by a two-legged takedown and side headlock. Big E fought back with a big powerslam and a standing elbow drop.
Later, after a spinebuster, Triple H locks in a crossface and Big E struggles. As this happens, Natural Selection emerges from backstage and surrounds the ring. Triple H gets distracted and loses the hold. Big E stands and the competitors stand back-to-back and wave Natural Selection into the ring. Cage, Benjamin and Alexander cross their arms and beckon them to continue their match.
While Big E and HHH continue to fight, the remaining members of New Day and DX emerge from backstage and also surround the ring. In the ring, Big E hits the Big Ending on Triple H and goes for the pin with Triple H’s foot near the ropes…Cage places the foot on the bottom rope, then gets the ref’s attention to break the pin.
Following this, Kingston and Woods come around to confront Natural Selection. They start shoving; and Big E clotheslines Triple H to the outside, then follows. At this point the match turns into an all-out brawl on the outside between the three trios, and the match is thrown out at 16:39.
