Lone Star Live
From the Strahan Arena in San Marcos, Texas.
Friday, August 11, 2023
Promoter: Conrad Thompson
Executive Director: Bruce Prichard
Broadcast Announce Team: Jack Buck & Renee Paquette
Backstage Interviewer: Kayla Braxton
Ring Announcer: Marc Lowrance
Jack and Renee start to welcome us to San Marcos, Texas for Lone Star Live. We go straight to the ring, where Kayla Braxton introduces the UWA Tag Team Champions, FTR!
Dax and Cash are all business as they enter the ring. The UWA Champions are angry about the attack they were subjected to at the end of Texas Heat two weeks ago. If Kane & The Undertaker wanted a shot at the UWA titles, all they had to do was say so. FTR never ducked a fight in their lives, and sure as Hell aren’t about to start now.
The Brothers of Destruction might be as intimidating a duo there is in the UWA, but they’re not the Top Guys, they aren’t the team that is representing World Class across the globe, night in and night out. So, if Mark and Glenn want these belts, they’re going to have to bring more than spooky effects and sneak attacks, they’re going to have to out-wrestle the Living Legends.
Paul Bearer appears on the stage and has a mic. He says the brothers will indeed bring those titles to his Funeral Parlor. Kane and his Undertaker are going to take the Top Guys, out. The Brothers of Destruction will make sure FTR Rests in Peace.
As the ring clears, Renee and Jack start to talk about what we just heard. We get a sudden camera cut to the back, where David Von Erich is entering the building. He is dressed much the same as last week, a dirty western shirt and stained jeans. He slings a bag over his shoulder. We see CM Punk walking in the background, but before anyone can even mention him, David is immediately waylaid by Adam Page. They trade blows right off, with David getting the upper hand until Page cracks him with some rebar. The Hangman drives David’s back into the stack of production cases nearby. Security staffers are on the scene immediately and are having difficulty keeping the two men apart. Bruce Prichard comes charging onto the scene. He orders security to take both men to the ring immediately, as we are finishing this now!
“Hangman” Adam Page vs “Yellow Rose” David Von Erich
Security escorts the men to the ring, no music, no introductions, dressed as they were. They manage to keep them apart long enough for a referee to run down and ring the bell. David and Page go toe to toe right away, trading kicks and punches relentlessly. Renee doubts we see much in the way of technical wrestling in this one, despite both men being very proficient at it.
Page chops the tall Texan’s knee and starts to work him over. A Deadeye gets him a near fall. Page uses his agility to keep David off balance as he goes to the outside for the Buckshot. Page flips into the ring, charges, but David catches him with the Iron Claw! Page staggers back, so David grabs the back of his head and applies the pressure. Page tries to kick his way out, so Von Erich scoops him up for a powerslam and then lifts Hangman onto the turnbuckles. David goes to the middle rope and tucks Page into position for a Middle Rope Piledriver. That’s enough for the 1…2….3.
Your Winner, via Pinfall [9:32]“Yellow Rose” David Von Erich!
Jack is impressed that David won the match without even putting his ring gear on. Renee isn’t sure that is the end of this rivalry. Jack is sure that we now know three of the four men that will compete for the Texas Heavyweight Title two weeks from tonight: Seth Rollins, Kazuchika Okada, and now David Von Erich. Renee is excited to learn who the fourth man will be later tonight, but first we head back to the ring.
Carmelo Hayes w/ Trick Williams vs “Iceman” King Parsons
A cocky Hayes pulls his hand away from Iceman’s handshake offer and riles the crowd up. Parsons grounds the newcomer with a couple of knee drops and a DDT. Hayes bounces back with a slingblade clothesline and a picture-esque dropkick. Parsons tumbles to the floor and Hayes planchas over the ropes, taking the Iceman into the barricade. Hayes rolls him back in and plants Parsons with a snap DDT of his own, then follows up with the Nothing But Net for the pinfall.
Your Winner, via Pinfall [9:32]Carmelo Hayes!
Hayes and Williams pose on the turnbuckles as Jack Buck throws us to the back.
Kayla has Keith Lee in the interview set. The Limitless one is not satisfied with the result of his match with Tomohiro Ishii at Texas Heat. He challenges the Stone Pitbull to a rematch down the line. It won’t be tonight however, as Lee has other business to attend to here tonight. He is entering the Open Invitational Battle Royal. He plans to win and then take home the Texas Title at Texas Forever on the 25th, but he wants Ishii at the next possible date. The camera watches him leave, and we see Tully Blanchard walking in the background.
Back in the ring, and Seth Rollins is dancing to the crowd singing his song. He has a mic. He is glad to see so many men trying their best to challenge him for the Texas Title. He talks up Okada and David Von Erich, but says each man knows deep down, they can’t pull off the heist of the century like the Visionary, the Revolutionary, Seth Freakin’ Rollins!
Seth leaves and Marc Lowrance starts the intros for the next match.
Booker T vs Pentagon Jr.
Each man has his brother and tag team partner in their respective corner. Penta’s speed and lucha libre style has Booker off balance for a bit, but then he catches the masked man in mid-air and plants him with a Book End! Penta kicks out of the pin attempt, and Booker stomps away at him. Fenix tries to pull his brother from the ring, Stevie Ray comes running over, and they get into a mini brawl on the floor.
Both Penta and Booker are caught off guard for a moment, Penta sends Booker into the corner, Penta charges in, Booker floats over him into the Brisco Roll up for the win.
Your Winner, via Pinfall [9:32]Booker T!
The bell sounds, and almost instantly, all four brothers are in the ring brawling. Agents and security staff come down and separate the teams.
Renee loved the intensity of the teams and knows we will be seeing them in the near future as the tag team title tournament takes shape. Jack says we should expect an announcement about that coming soon.
Bruce Prichard is in the ring, hyping the fans up for Texas Forever on the 25th, officially announcing FTR versus The Brothers of Destruction for the UWA Tag Team Titles. He adds that after what we just saw here tonight, he is adding Houston Heat vs Lucha Brothers for that show as well.
Suddenly, Mustafa Ali comes out and makes his way to the ring. He apologizes to Bruce for interrupting him. Ali knows he wasn’t scheduled to be here tonight, but he wants to prove a point to Pac, Bronson Reed, or anyone else who doubts him. He wants to be a fighting champion, taking on anyone, anywhere, anytime. Prichard commends his attitude and knows that everyone is looking forward to Texas Forever where he will take on Bronson Reed.
Ali says he is ready for that fight, but that is two weeks away. Since he is here in San Marcos tonight, dressed to compete, how about we have a Western States Title Open Challenge Match right here, right now! The crowd likes this idea, and after asking Ali if he is sure, Bruce sanctions the match. Ali calls out the entire locker room and is begging someone, anyone, to come out and take him on!
Wild Thing plays and we see coming through the crowd the Blackpool Combat Club! Yuta, Moxley & Claudio amble their way through the fans to ringside, jumping the barricade. All three men are pointing at Ali.
Jack thinks Ali might have just bitten off more than he can chew tonight. Renee wonders which of the BCC will step up to the challenge. Jack notes they could just be here to beat someone up.
The three men stand side by side on the ring apron. Ali is crouched, ready for someone to come at him. Yuta, Claudio and Moxley exchange glances, then the Death Rider ducks between the ropes. He fist bumps his comrades and they drop to the floor and take their place in his corner.
Mustafa Ali ( C ) vs Jon Moxley – Western States Championship Match
The referee does his thing pre-match and finds a blade in Moxley’s wrist tape. He threatens to toss out the match before it begins, but Ali insists that the bout go on.
Moxley is aggressive early, and Ali does his best to withstand the rush. Mox delivers a brain buster, and then the hammer and anvil elbows. Moxley bites at the forehead of the champion, and the official must intervene.
Ali catches him with a superkick and then a tornado DDT. Mox goes to the floor, and Ali dives through the ropes to send him into the barricade. Mox seems to be down longer than necessary, holding his head and writhing around oddly. Yuta goes over and pulls him to his feet, and in the process rips another blade from his associate’s grip. Claudio points Jon to the ring and tells him to focus on the win, not the blood.
Mox rolls back in and is met by a knee strike from Ali. Mox gains the upper hand, and tosses Mustafa back to the floor, looking to smash his head into the ring steps. Ali blocks the shot, and Mox braces himself for Ali to send him into the steel, but Ali slides behind him and belly to back suplexes Jon on the floor.
Ali in and the referee starts to count. Claudio and Wheeler roll Mox back in, telling him to focus on the match and forget the blood. Mox rolls in and eats a dropkick into the buckles. Ali with a follow up, somersaulting between the ropes and planting Mox with a DDT. Ali lands his man in the right spot and bounds to the top rope. The 054 connects! 1…2…3!
Your Winner via Pinfall [12:32], and STILL Western States Champions, Mustafa Ali!
Yuta and Claudio are giving Moxley a couple of earfuls as they lead him back to the back. Ali celebrates inside the ring, and Jack and Renee reinforce that the lack of focus by Moxley cost him dearly tonight.
We cut to the backstage area with Kayla Braxton, who has Drew McIntyre. Drew is primed and ready for tonight’s Open Invitational Battle Royal. He will be in there and dares anyone from anywhere in the UWA to get between him and the last spot in the Texas Title Match. Drew’s eyes go wide, and his gaze goes nearly to the celling as Andre the Giant walks in front of him.
We come back to the arena as FTR make their way down to ringside to join in on commentary for the next match. Marc Lowrance begins the introductions.
Guerillas of Destiny – Tama Tonga & Tonga Loa vs Grizzled Young Veterans – James Drake & Zack Gibson
GOD take control early and never really relent. Drake and Gibson battle back for a few hope spots but are just overmatched on this night. Cash says he hears there is a big announcement coming up about the World Class Tag Team Title. He reiterates that there is no need to go through a big production, the best team in the promotion , the best team in the universe are right here. A Samoan Drop and Diving Headbutt by the GOD put this one to bed in short order.
Your Winners, Pinfall [5:36] Guerillas of Destiny!
Jack and Renee continued to be impressed at the tag team action we see every show so far here in WCCW. Dax says the tag team competition around here is really good, but none of them are Top Guys.
Open Invitational Battle Royal
Marc Lowrance announces the match will begin in 3 minutes The World Class theme plays, and a stream of wrestlers start walking down the ramp, with a few emerging from the crowd. Jack and Renee are pointing out names as best they can. Adam Cole, Matt Cardona, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Carmelo Hayes, Drew McIntyre, Scorpio Sky, One Man Gang, Jon Moxley, Jose Lothario, among others.
Conrad Thompson has joined the announce desk and is mentioning some of the non-World Class wrestlers that have made the trek to College Station. AEW Tag Team Champions, The Chosen Bros, Matt Riddle and Jeff Cobb. WCW’s Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff and former Texas Champion Curt Hennig. UPW stars Rush and CM Punk. OVW’s Rob Conway & Nick Dinsmore. Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson from the AWA. The WWWF is represented by Braun Strowman and Andre the Giant.
The ring is full a bursting at the seams. Jack note there is a literal sea of humanity in there. Renee reminds us that the winner of the Battle Royal will be the fourth man in the Texas Heavyweight Title Fatal Four Way match in two weeks at Texas Forever. The bell sounds, and chaos reigns supreme.
Drew McIntyre gets to work, tossing out Carmelo Hayes and Jose Lothario within seconds. Tully hits Arn from behind and they are blistering each other intensely. Battles break out all across the canvas.
Soon there are a dozen men hanging on for dear life while being bent over the ropes in a variety of positions. Drew tosses both Angel and Humberto. We see Orndorff and Hennig working together to put the One Man Gang in a precarious position before breaking free and saving himself.
Stroman and Andre are having a little bout of one-upmanship. Strowman tosses Iceman Parsons, then gets in Andre’s face. The Giant grabs Sami Zayn and presses him overhead and deposits him on the floor as well. The Giant smacks Strowman’s chest, and they start to brawl.
We cut to the front row, where Kazichika Okada is sitting, watching the battle taking place.
CM Punk is in the corner tied up with Rob Conway. They are battling it out, when Nick Dinsmore cracks Punk from behind and pulls Conway to safety. Conway and Dinsmore glare intently at one another before finding new dance partners in the melee.
The ring starts to thin out some more. Strowman and Andre, still trying to best one another, take turns taking out Cardona, Myers, Sterling, and Adam Cole. Arn finally succeeds in dumping Tully, only to be dumped himself by Henning and Orndorff. They then toss out Juventud Guererra immediately afterwards and high five, only to be taken over the ropes by a Drew McIntyre double clothesline.
Scorpio Sky is flipped over by Cobb and Riddle but skins the cat and slides back in unseen. He is greeted by a McIntyre Claymore and crumbles in a corner.
Another cut takes us to the back for a moment, where David Von Erich is watching a monitor in a locker room, still wearing his bloodied shirt and jeans.
Strowman, with some help from the BCC, manages to power Andre over the ropes. Bobby Heenan gloats on the outside, but Strowman turns around into a Claymore from Drew and recoils backwards over the ropes himself. Matt Riddle gets Claudio halfway over the ropes. Moxley and Wheeler start to pry him off, and Cobb comes in from behind to try and flip the both of them out. The momentum takes out Claudio & Riddle as well. Riddle questions his partner, who shrugs and goes back into the melee.
Across the ring, Rush and Andrade have commandeered a corner, defending against anyone thrown their way, that is, until Kevin Owens ends up in their space. He flips Andrade out and gets into an extended bout with Rush. The One Man Gang avalanches the both of them in the corner, before tossing Owens. He tries to eliminate Rush, but El Toro Blanco skins the cat himself and takes the fight to Gang repeatedly, before McIntyre joins him and they dump Gang from the ring.
CM Punk has Scorpio Sky on the opposite ropes and close to elimination, when John Morrison appears at ringside, jawing at the former UWA champion. Punk leans over the ropes and threatens John, only to have Sky grab him from behind and run him over the ropes on the other side of the ring. Morrison laughs, then darts away through the crowd as Punk starts to give chase.
A cut to the Gorilla position, where Seth Rollins is sitting in a chair beside a production staffer, laughing at the chaos in the ring.
We have narrowed the field considerably at this point. A dozen or so guys remain. Keith Lee and Drew toss Rob Conway and are attacked by a wild-eyed Nick Dinsmore. He blasts both men back and forth before Jeff Cobb grabs him and heaves him over the ropes. Cobb, McIntyre & Lee catch eyes before resuming the fight. Cobb gets taken out by a Claymore from Drew and tossed out by Keith Lee. Rush gets taken out by Scorpio Sky. Lee catches Scorpio with a Big Bang Catastrophe, but then is accosted by Tanahashi. Drew gives him the Glasgow Kiss, and the goes face to face with Keith Lee.
Lee and Drew battle around the ring, now the only two men left on their feet. Tomohiro Ishii charges across the ring and gets into it with the Limitless one. Lee manages to toss Ishii over the ropes. The Stone Pitbull starts jawing at the Texan, who leans over the ropes and waves goodbye. McIntyre takes advantage and clotheslines Lee out of the ring. Lee and Ishii exchange more pleasantries on the floor, brawling up the ramp and bringing out security staffers to separate them for the second straight show. Renee excitedly declares that we are down to three men left!
Drew looks around and sees Scorpio Sky and Tanahashi both on the mat. Tanahashi is getting to his feet, and Drew gives him an assist, press slamming him over the ropes to the floor. McIntyre turns around to see Scorpio pulling himself up against the ropes. He charges in for a Claymore, Scorpio dodges him and pulls the top rope down. Drew crotches himself on it! Scorpio gives him a big bounce on the ropes, then a standing enziguri kick knocks Drew to the floor!
Your Winner [34:13] Scorpio Sky!
Sky drops to his knees in exhaustion as the referee raises his hand. The crowd explodes, and Drew is looking up at the ring with disdain in his eyes. Seth Rollins comes down the ramp cackling as always. David Von Erich stomps down behind him, and Okada jumps the barricade to join the fun. Scorpio stands his ground. All four men end up in the ring exchanging threatening looks and gestures as the show fades to block.
