AWA ALL-STAR WRESTLING
EPISODE 43
EPISODE 43
Sorry for the abbreviated report – we'll get back to regularly scheduled programming soon!
Lou Thesz and the AWA Stampede Mid-Heavyweight champion Dynamite Kid fought to a 20-minute draw. As you'd expect, this was an early match of the year candidate, and the two men shook hands afterwards in anticipation of a rematch.
Promo from the Pinnacle, hyping MJF's championship match with Diamond Dallas Page.
The AWA World Tag-Team champions, the Minnesota Wrestling Club (Gagne and Williams) defeated Larry Hennig and Harley Race to earn a rematch with the UWA Universal Tag-Team champions FTR. “Dr. Death” wore a hockey mask to protect his face, and was an unstoppable force for his team.
Promo from Jimmy Hart with Doom, the newest members of his First Family. They were interrupted by Bron Steiner, who challenged either of them to a match next week.
AWA World Heavyweight champion Barry Windham and the Midnight Express (Lane, Eaton, and Condrey) defeated the Motor City Machine Guns, Lance Storm, and Christian Cage in an eight-man tag-team match. It was chaotic and loaded with multi-man spots; of note, Cage hit the Unprettier on Windham and pinned him for several seconds, but the referee was out of position and didn't make the count.
Promo from Arn Anderson, who vowed to rebound after his War Games loss. He was eager to go it alone, but he wanted a piece of former friends Tully Blanchard and Ric Flair.
Promo from Don Leo Jonathan, announcing his match against Batista next week.
Diamond Dallas Page defeated MJF via pinfall to win the AWA Southern Heavyweight title. The match was very competitive and after Freddie Blassie was ejected from ringside, Wardlow tried to interfere on Friedman's behalf. However, he was cut off on the ramp by Rocky Maivia, and they fought to the back. DDP took advantage of the distraction and hit the champ with a Diamond Cutter for the win.
