AEW Dynamite
Feb. 22, 2023
AEW RevolutionThe show opens right with Goldberg’s music, and the new champion walks down to the ring, wearing a suit with the belt draped across his shoulder. There is a “Goldberg” chant, mixed in with a handful of boos.
Goldberg - “Do you hear that, Cody Rhodes? I came into AEW, kicked your ass and took your championship. I’ve terrorized these fans’ conquering hero; taken no prisoners; and there are still people who chant my name. It’s because a hero isn’t much of a hero unless he can vanquish the monster. And, Cody, I’m your monster. Your great American Dream has turned into a real American Nightmare.” Cody’s music hits, and he walks out to his own series of cheers.
Cody - “I admit it, Bill, you beat me fair-and-square in the middle of the ring at Revolution. But tell me, if you’re so confident about beating me, why did you add a clause into your contract that I wouldn’t get a rematch if you won the belt? Are you afraid of giving me another shot?”
Goldberg - “You don’t deserve another shot. I won’t have you hanging onto my coattails. This championship looks pretty damned good around my waist. It’s going nowhere for a long time?”
Cody - “Only because you won’t fight. You’re a part-time wrestler. Fight me tonight.”
Goldberg smiles. “Cody, I’m not fighting you. And I’m not fighting tonight. Champion’s prerogative. But I’ll fight next week against any other poor soul in the back who thinks they can pin me.” Cody looks upset and vows to earn another shot at Goldberg.

Match 1 - Max Caster (0-0) vs. Nick Jackson (0-1)
Jackson wins with a super kick at 9:39 after a high-energy match.

Rey Mysterio comes out to a huge ovation following his win at Revolution. He says it’s so great to be here in AEW and to start another chapter in his long career. He had a great time the other night, and looks forward to seeing what Jungle Boy does in the future. But Rey is here for two reasons — to entertain fans and win championships. And now he’s got a fight coming up against Samoa Joe.
Joe comes to the stage and welcomes Rey to AEW. He promises to end Rey’s AEW career before it even really begins at March Madness. Joe says he’s going to snap Rey in half.
—
Match 2 - Riho (5-9) vs. Alexa Bliss (3-3) w/ Abadon
Bliss pins Riho after the Twisted Bliss at 8:39. After the match, Beth Phoenix appears on the screen and says she would have beaten Abadon last week except for Bliss’ interference. She knows Bliss — Phoenix knows that Bliss isn’t someone else’s lackey. She’s better than that. She wants to break the spell Abadon has under her. Phoenix challenges Bliss to a match next week on Dynamite. Bliss and Abadon confer, but don’t answer.

Rob Van Dam is backstage chilling in a smoky room. Shawn Spears bursts in and asks what Rob’s problem is. Why did he screw their team over last week on Rampage? RVD replies that if Spears has a problem, they can settle it any time. He stands, but Spears shoves him down. Beer Money enters the room, too, and the beatdown is on until Sabu and Dean Malenko show up. Security breaks up the brawl.
—
Match 3 - Jake Hager (7-5) vs. L.A. Park Jr. (1-2)
Hager returns to his winning ways after a Hagerbomb at 7:19.
—
We see an old shed that looks like it’s falling apart. A light shines out of it, while sounds of sawing, hammering and screaming are heard. A snippet of “What’s he building in there” plays as the camera zooms out.
—
RVD, Sabu & Dean Malenko vs. Shawn Spears and Beer Money is announced for later tonight.
—
Match 4 - The Outsiders (3-2) vs. The American Wolves (6-8)
Hall pins Edwards after the Razors Edge in 8:40. He grabs a mic afterward and says they’ve got unfinished business with the Steiner Bros.
—
Matt Riddle, Jeff Cobb and The Hurricane are backstage playing Rummikub when Natural Selection walks by. Shelton Benjamin scatters the tiles on their way by, and laughs.
Riddle stands and asks what that was for. Benjamin smirks and walks off. Riddle yells after them that they’re just jealous that they can’t play Rummikub because Cedric Alexander and Brian Cage can’t count to 13. Alexander goes to make a move toward them, but Benjamin pulls him off and they walk off.
—
Main Event - RVD, Sabu & Dean Malenko vs. Shawn Spears & Beer Money w/ JBL
Spears gets the pin on Sabu after a hard-fought 14 minutes. Malenko nearly had Storm ready to tap out with the Cloverleaf, but JBL slid in and clotheslined him while Spears had the ref distracted. The Apex stood tall as the show ended.

Willow Nightingale comes out onto the stage and says she isn’t just Jade’s goon. She’s here to make her own mark in this business, and she intends to make the most of this opportunity when she wipes the floor with Sasha next week on Dynamite. She invites Sasha to watch her at ringside tonight, when she teams with Tay Melo to dominate Serena Deeb and Brandi Rhodes.
—
Match 1 - LAX (6-5) vs. Luchasaurus & Marko Stunt
LAX wins after a Border Toss from Hernandez to Stunt in 6:30.
—
Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo come out next. Guevara says that MVP got what was coming to him at Revolution after the “Prime Time Playa” cost Guevara a spot in the Face of the Revolution match. “Speaking of the Face of the Revolution — why was Rey Mysterio in that match anyway? We have Rey coming in and getting a win; Samoa Joe and Goldberg as champions. Where are the fresh faces? Where is Sammy Guevara’s opportunity?”
He says that’s a topic for another day. For now, he needs to end things with MVP, who appears on the screen. MVP says he isn’t there tonight, but wanted to Zoom in and talk to Sammy to invite him to a special VIP Lounge next week on Dynamite.
—
Match 2 - Tay Melo & Willow Nightingale vs. Serena Deeb & Brandi Rhodes
Nightingale pins Rhodes after a Doctor Bomb at 5:12.
—
The Steiners had an interview earlier with Pat McAfee. He asked about their future in AEW now that they’ve failed to regain the tag titles. Scott replied that they’ll be back on top before too long. They may not be champions any more, but they’re still the team everyone is gunning for. The Outsiders want a piece. The New Day wants a piece. That’s 2 pieces and 4 people. Well, Big Poppa Pump and the Dog-Faced Gremlin aren’t going anywhere.
—
Main Event - Brian Cage (10-3) w/ Cesar Duran vs. Jungle Boy (5-1)
Cage and Jungle Boy fight in a back-and-forth match, but Cage’s power gets the upper hand and he wins after hitting that Drill Claw in 9:29.
Next week on Dynamite:
