AEW Dynamite - Oct. 5, 2022
Live from Charleston, SC
Beer Money comes out to open the show, with James Storm in the first match. They talk about their time in AEW so far and continuing to deal with the so-called Chosen Bros. They thought they moved beyond Riddle and Cobb months ago, but they keep crossing paths. Beer Money beat them once, and at Grand Slam, Beer Money will prevail again - in a Barstool Brawl.
Matt Riddle comes out with Jeff Cobb. They agree to the match - and ask what the heck a Barstool Brawl is - there are barstools sitting in each corner that can be used as weapons during the match. After all four are used, a team can win the match. Normal tag rules apply outside of the barstools.
Match 1 - Matt Riddle (5-5) w/ Jeff Cobb vs. James Storm (0-1) w/ Robert Roode
Storm and Riddle have a great back-and-forth match until Roode trips Riddle up from the outside. This allows Storm to gain control as Cobb runs Roode off, hitting a variety of moves — Closing Time (Double Knee Facebreaker), Calf Wrangler (Sling Blade) and Lungblower (Double Knee Backbreaker) — and getting a two-count. Riddle regrouped and hit a Floating Bro out of nowhere. Riddle got the win with a BroDerek at 12:10.

We see Alexa Bliss continuing Jade Cargill’s boot camp, doing push-ups with a weight on her back. She looks at the camera and says she’s tired of this, but won’t quit until she gets her next shot.
—
The Outsiders are joking around backstage when The Acclaimed come up to them. Max Caster spits a few lines about Hall and Nash being outdated and overrated. They demand a match, and it’s set for Grand Slam.
—
Match 2 - Malakai Black (8-1) w/ Kidman vs. Hook (8-2) w/ Raven
Prior to the match, Taz tried talking Hook out of fighting Black, but Hook pushed past him. Taz pointed at Raven and told him he’d hold Raven responsible if anything happened to Hook. Then Taz walked to the back, leaving Coach alone at the announce table.
Black tries for the Black Mass to start, but Hook ducks and locks in REDRUM! Black runs back and slams him into the turnbuckles to break the hold. Both are more cautious from then. Raven goes over to talk with Kidman, which distracts Black. Hook rolls him up for a 2-count - and Kidman punches Raven! Raven is out cold! Kidman had brass knuckles! In the ring, Hook looks stunned and Black hits the Black Mass for the win in 9:12.
After the match, Black grabs a mic and looks down at Raven, who is recovering. “You have meddled one too many times. Now, Raven, it's time to pay your penance.” The match is made for Grand Slam.
—
We see footage of Alexa Bliss running through an obstacle course. As she gets through it, Jade Cargill is at the other end and says it wasn’t fast enough. This enrages Bliss, who hits Jade with a forearm!
Bliss - “Enough is enough. I’ve gone through your little boot camp. I’m ready for my rematch.” She storms off as Cargill looks after her and holds her jaw.
—
Match 3 - Madison Rayne (1-1) vs. Brandi Rhodes (4-6)
Rayne gets the win at 5:23 with a roll-up and her legs on the ropes.
—
Gable Steveson is backstage with the All-Atlantic Championship on his shoulder. He looks upset.
“Last week, Jake Hager attacked me like a coward and demanded a shot at my championship. Jake, I don’t care who you’ve beaten in the ring. I am going to destroy you. You just picked a fight with your worst enemy.”
—
Match 4 - LAX (3-3) vs. Dean Malenko and Peter Avalon (2-0)
The New Day come to ringside during the match to watch. Konnan gets in their face and tells them to stay out of their way. Malenko and Avalon hold their own with LAX, but eventually the power of Hernandez overcomes Malenko and Avalon, and he hits the Border Toss on Avalon for the win at 7:56.
After the match, the New Day get in the ring and demand an answer about their rematch. LAX backs away and grants the rematch at Grand Slam - on the condition that if LAX wins, they get to destroy Xavier Woods’ N64 and copy of WCW/NWO Revenge. Woods looks distraught as Kofi agrees to the match.
—
Tay Melo is backstage with Sammy Guevara, responding to Paige VanZant. She says they're both clearly the next in line for a title shot, and makes a challenge for Grand Slam. It'll be Tay's Brazilian Jiu Jitsu mastery against Paige's MMA bonafides.
—
Match 5 - Ronda Rousey & Paige VanZant vs. The Beautiful People (Velvet Sky & Angelina Love)
Rousey and VanZant pick up the win in 10:23 after VanZant hits a Pedigree on Sky.
After the match, VanZant cuts a promo - “Tay Melo, you’re a hell of a competitor, and you’ve been lighting it up. Let’s tear down the house at Grand Slam.”
Rousey offers to train VanZant over the next couple of weeks, saying she’s got a lot of experience against BJJ. They bump fists and walk to the back.
—
Jade Cargill is backstage with Tony Khan. They make a title match for Alexa Bliss on next week's Dynamite!
Cargill - “That’s fine, Tony. But I want to make this Alexa’s last chance. I want to punish her. I’ve been putting her through a Boot Camp these last couple of weeks - let’s make the match a Boot Camp match.”
—
Sasha Banks gives a taped promo.
"I'm sorry I can't be there tonight, but I'm currently defending the UWA Championship in another territory. I can guarantee that The Boss will still be champion in three weeks when Jade Cargill puts her undefeated streak up against my championship. See you in Tampa, Jade."
—
Main Event - Cody Rhodes (7-2) vs. Cedric Alexander (0-0)
Cody and Cedric fight for about 10 minutes until Cage, Benjamin and the Young Bucks all rush in and the match almost gets thrown out. The ref gets control of things and bans all non-competitors from ringside. They restart the match, and Cody is able to get the win with the CrossRhodes at 14:12.
After the match, Cody grabs a mic - "I've got two things to get off my chest. Number 1: Myself and the Young Bucks challenge this trio to a match at Grand Slam." Cage comes back out to the stage to accept the match, and promises to end Cody at Grand Slam.
Cody continues - "And the second thing pertains to Jeff Jarrett. Jeff - I want to see you on Dynamite next week. You can roll your ass out here and face me like a man. I've got something to say to you."
