AEW Dynamite - Sept. 28, 2022
Live from Baton Rouge, La.
Live from Baton Rouge, La.
Mox - “I was embarrassed last week by losing to Jake Hager - a man who shouldn’t even be able to lace my boots. This is not the way I wanted to start my AEW career. But I’ve got to hand it to Jake. He took the cards that were dealt and hit the Royal Flush. I can’t even be mad at him. The person I can be mad at, however, is Samoa f’n Joe. I’m itching for a fight. Joe, if you’re back there, come on out right now and let’s settle this in the ring!” Jeff Jarrett’s music hits and out comes The Apex, with Shawn Spears pushing Jeff Jarrett in his wheelchair. Moxley mouths “what the hell do you want?”
Jarrett - “Jon Moxley! Welcome to All Elite Wrestling! I see that you’ve already been given a warm welcome by Mr. Hager. But as the World Champion, I felt compelled to come out here and welcome you myself. I wanted to give you a good look at this belt. This is the closest you’ll ever come to it, as long as I’m champion.”
Mox - “Can you please get to your point? I don’t care if there are five of you on that stage. I’ll come down there and kick all of your asses.”
JBL takes the mic. “The point, Jon, is that for all that you’ve done in other places, you’ve yet to do jack-all in AEW. And still you get TV time at the top of the hour. The point, Jon, is that you need to earn your screen time.”
Mox nods his head and says, “I’ve got all the time in the world, Bradshaw. Let’s tear the house down.”
JBL vs. Jon Moxley is set for later tonight
—
Match 1 - Riho (4-3) vs. Taynara Melo (6-0) w/ Sammy Guevara
Melo gets the win in 8:32 after a series of kicks. After the match, Sammy grabs the mic - “Everyone in the audience needs to give my lady a standing ovation. She’s come out here week in and week out, puts it all on the line and wins, wins, wins, no matter what. She’s a little like me in that way. And yet, we see other people come in here and immediately get handed opportunities. My lady is out here taking them. Why should Alexa Bliss get to jump to the front of the line?”
—
We see Alexa Bliss arriving at the arena earlier in the afternoon. There’s a note in her locker that welcomes her to Jade Cargill’s Boot Camp. She is directed to go outside and run a mile around the building. “What does this have to do with wrestling for the championship? Ugh, whatever.”
—
Raven comes out to the ring with Hook, who’s tagging along just behind him. Raven grabs a mic - “Tonight, Hook has a golden opportunity to open the eyes of Billy Kidman. Billy and I go back a long time. There was a time when I was guiding him along. He was a part of my Flock. Now I’m building a new Flock, and Billy is going to be a part of it.” The lights cut out. When they come back on, Malakai Black is in the ring. He looks calm and has his own mic.
Black - “You have not heeded your warning, Raven. I told you two weeks ago to stay out of the House of Black’s way. This is your final warning.” Black turns and leaves the ring, while Raven and Hook look on.
—
Match 2 - Los Parks (4-3) w/ Cesar Duran vs. The American Wolves (6-4)
Los Parks gets the win with an L.A. Park spear on Eddie Edwards in 8:46. Following the match, Duran grabs the microphone - “It feels, to us, like the Steiner Brothers are trying to move on from Los Parks before we are done with them. The Outsiders have done nothing inside an AEW ring. They’ve done nothing in the wrestling world for a long time. We are still here, and we deserve another chance at the World Tag Team Titles.”
—
Alexa Bliss, earlier tonight, is running around the building in her jogging outfit. A billboard nearby flashes a quick image of Lily, then moves onto an ad for a local car dealership. Alexa stops for a moment and a Rolls Royce pulls up beside her. The rear window rolls down, and it’s Jade Cargill.
“You need to keep going, Lexy, if you want another shot at the belt. I want to have an actual challenge next time. After your run, you need to do 100 push-ups with a weight strapped to your back.”
Alexa rolls her eyes, and says “Did you have anything to do with Lily up on the billboard?”
Jade gives her a puzzled look, then rolls up the window as the car drives away.
—
Cody Rhodes and the Young Bucks come out to the ring. The Bucks start with the mics and say they’ve come to AEW to do two things: Win more tag team gold and help their good friend Cody to even the odds. And tonight, when Nick superkicks Shelton Benjamin, it’ll just be the first step on their journey to ultimate glory.
Cody grabs the mic and reiterates his claim to another shot at the World Championship. Whatever this thing with Brian Cage is, it’s just a speedbump. Another challenge for Cody to overcome on his way to winning the belt. He vows to earn another title shot sooner than later.

Special Announcement: All Elite Wrestling’s next premiere event will be a special presentation of Dynamite, called Grand Slam. The event will be held in Tampa, Florida’s Tropicana Field over two dates: October 19 and 26. Get your tickets now!
—
Match 3 - Billy Kidman (3-5) w/ Malakai Black vs. Hook (7-2) w/ Raven
Kidman and Hook have a good back-and-forth match. Raven tries talking to Kidman, but Black attacks! Black and Raven spill into the crowd and trade punches. Kidman gets distracted, allowing Hook to lock in the REDRUM for the win at 7:32.
—
Jade Cargill comes to the ring after the break, holding the Women’s Championship over her shoulder and a smile on her face. “The ladies in the back and the fans around the world may not like me. But they all damn well respect me. That’s because I have earned my spot, and I have put this championship and my title on the line over and over again. At the same time, I’ve also earned a shot at Sasha Banks and the UWA Women’s Title. And that b**** has the temerity to tell me to put a date on our match? Does she really want to lose the belt that badly? Well, I’ve got a date. And it’s the biggest Dynamite in AEW History: Grand Slam, Night 2: October 26.”
—
Match 4 - Shelton Benjamin (0-0) w/ Cedric Alexander vs. Nick Jackson (0-0) w/ Matt Jackson
Benjamin and Jackson have an athletic fight. Jackson gets a nearfall after hitting a superkick on a springboarding Benjamin. Later, Jackson is going for a 450 splash when Alexander holds his boot, while Benjamin distracts the ref. Jackson kicks Alexander away, but has waited too long. Benjamin hops onto the turnbuckle and hits a belly-to-belly suplex off the top rope. He follows it up with the Paydirt for the pinfall at 13:12.
Following the match, Alexander hits the ring to help Benjamin continue attacking Nick. Matt slides in to even the odds, which brings out Brian Cage and, then, Cody Rhodes. In the fracas, Alexander catches Rhodes with the Kick to Kill - Fireman’s carry overhead kick - that knocks him out. Cage then hits the Drill Claw back-to-back on the Young Bucks, and the heels stand tall over their downed opponents.
—
Jake Hager is standing backstage with an angry look on his face - “Jon Moxley, you say you were embarrassed about losing to me? I could run down my long list of accomplishments in the wrestling world. I have won multiple championships around the world. I’m undefeated in MMA. And, now, I’ve defeated Samoa Joe and Jon Moxley in consecutive matches. Hell, I might just be on the biggest roll of my career. And still, you’re embarrassed? If I hadn’t already set my sights on larger goals, I’d kick your ass again.” Hager turns around and knocks on the door behind him. It opens and Gable Steveson is on the other side! Hager rushes in and tackles Steveson through the coffee table, which breaks beneath them. He picks up the All-Atlantic Title, which is sitting on the couch, and yells that he’s coming to avenge his loss and win the championship.
—
The Steiners come out to the ring and give a promo about respecting Los Parks. And, since they’re the current number one contenders, they’ll run the match back one more time and up the stakes a little. The tag match will be a tables elimination match. Then they turn their attention to the Outsiders. They agree with Cesar Duran (who Scott Steiner calls Duran Duran) that Scott Hall and Kevin Nash have done jack-all to deserve a shot at the championships.
—
Match 5 - Paige VanZant (5-2) vs. Michelle McCool (4-4)
VanZant gets the win with a rear naked choke at 6:21. After the match, she talks about going after the championship again. It looks like she and Tay Melo have the same goal. So maybe they should do something about it.
—
Matt Riddle and Jeff Cobb are backstage playing Rummikub.
Riddle - “Okay, bro. Thanks for playing with me. I used to play with the little green weatherman, but I haven’t seen him around for the last couple weeks.” Cobb looks up at the camera, knowingly.
Cobb - “No problem. You’re my partner, and my best friend in this business. Speaking of partners…don’t you think it’s time that we finally put an end to this madness with Beer Money? I mean, Grand Slam is coming up. We could get our win back, and then move on.”
Riddle lays down three tiles. “I win! Bro, you are bad at Rummikub. And, yeah, I’ll put in a word with Tony.”
Mick Foley walks by and stops at their table. Riddle pops right up. “Whoa! Are you Santa!?”
Foley - “Uh, no. Name’s Mick. Nice to meet you! I overheard you say something about Tony. Can you point me to where his office is?” Riddle says, “Sure thing, Santa!” and points down the hall. Foley smiles and shakes his head, then walks down the hall while shouting “Have a nice day!” over his shoulder.

Main Event - Jon Moxley (0-1) vs. JBL (3-3) w/ Shawn Spears
Mox and JBL have a slugfest. Every time Mox got an advantage, Spears would come up with a distraction or JBL would rake his eyes or hit a low blow. JBL got a nearfall after a Clothesline from Hell. Mox eventually won with a Paradigm Shift at 10:56.
After the match, Spears hit the ring and stomped on Mox. With JBL and Spears stomping on him, this brought out Samoa Joe, who cleared the ring and grabbed a mic.
Joe - “It seems like we have some unfinished business. Unfortunately, you got in my way last week when I had something to say to Jake.”
Mox - “All you had to do was wait until after I pinned him. Instead? You cost me my match. Let’s settle it in the ring at Grand Slam.” Mox offers his hand, and Joe reciprocates. Then Joe pulls Mox toward him and hits a Ura-nage! Joe stands with his arm held high over Mox as the show comes to a close.
