AEW Dynamite - Sept. 14
Dark match results -
Peter Avalon & Dean Malenko def. Local tag teamAngelina Love def. Jaime Hayter
The Hurricane and James Storm fight to a no-contest thanks to interference from the Apex, Matt Riddle and Jeff Cobb
The show kicks off with a brief recap of All Out (Click here for the full show), focusing on the Casino Battle Royale - showing the surprise appearance of Edge, the AEW debut of Jon Moxley and the return of Brian Cage, who won the match. We then see Cody Rhodes vs. Jeff Jarrett’s ending, with Cody tossing Jeff out of the ring and Jeff injuring his foot. This gave Cody a countout win, but Jeff kept the title.
We cut to the crowd, then Cody Rhodes’ music hits to a large ovation. Cody comes out in a suit, with a sour look on his face. He walks down to the ring and grabs a mic.
Cody - “Four days ago, I put everything I had into becoming the AEW World Champion. Yet, because of an injury sustained during the match and outside of the ring, Double J Jeffrey Jarrett is still the champion. And I’m still on the outside, looking in. But know that I’ll be here, waiting for your foot to heal.”
Jeff Jarrett’s music hits, and he is pushed out in a wheelchair by Shawn Spears, with the rest of The Apex flanking them. Jarrett’s right leg is in a cast. He’s holding the championship over his shoulder, and he pulls a microphone to his lips. “The key point of your little monologue is that I am still the champion. It just wouldn’t be fair to me or this championship to lose to a debilitating injury like a broken foot. Thankfully, it will be healed in time for my next title defense at Full Gear. You have to love how history rhymes, Cody Rhodes. Your daddy won his world title match via countout and couldn’t take the belt home, too. Like father, like son.” Spears wheels Jarrett to the back as Cody looks on.
Brian Cage’s music rings and out walks the new number 1 contender. He goes to the ring and stands face-to-face with Cody.
Brian - “You almost had it, Cody. Unfortunately, you couldn’t seal the deal at All Out. And now I’m standing in your way.”
Cody gets nose-to-nose with Brian and says they can settle things right here, right now. All of a sudden, two wrestlers in hoodies slide in the ring and attack Cody. Brian hits the Drill Claw on him and then the other two take their hoods down and the trio walks to the back.
Coach - “It’s Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander! Have they joined forces with Brian Cage? What does this mean for Cage’s chances at Full Gear? Will Cody get another shot at the belt!?”

Match 1 - Sammy Guevara (7-4) w/ Taynara Melo vs. Billy Kidman (3-4)
Guevara gets the win with the 630 at 7:31.
After the match, as Kidman is walking back up the stage, Raven and Hook come out to meet him. Raven whispers in Kidman’s ear and points to Hook. Kidman shrugs them off and continues walking to the back.
Coach - “What’s that all about?”
Taz - “Beats me, Coach. I’m staying out of Hook and Raven’s business for now. But Raven clearly has something up his sleeve.”
Coach - “I wonder what Malakai Black is going to have to say about this.”
—
Match 2 - Taynara Melo (4-0) w/ Sammy Guevara vs. Serena Deeb (6-2)
Tay gets the win in 10:52 with a Brazilian Kick (Wristlock Bicycle Kick). Serena got in a lot of offense, and nearly had the win with an STF locked in. But Sammy grabbed Tay by the hand and helped drag her to the ropes without the ref seeing. She broke the hold, then hit a jumping knee and a Gory Special before the Brazilian Kick for the win. She and Sammy celebrated and walked to the back.

Cody is backstage talking on the phone, icing the back of his neck. He says, “Yeah, I’ll see you next week,” and hangs up as Matt Riddle is riding by on his scooter alongside Jeff Cobb.
Riddle - “It was such a bummer on Saturday when you almost won the title, bro. Mr. Double J is a crafty little bugger. And now Brian Cage is after you? Have you talked to Tony yet? He almost has to give you another shot, bro.”
Cody - “I…Thank you? I also saw that you were pretty close to earning another shot yourself. What’s next for the Chosen Bros?”
Riddle - “Man, Beer Money is still causing us issues. I think the Cobbler and I are going to pivot to going after tag team gold. But we need to get through Beer Money, first. And I’ve got a match with Brian Cage next week.”
Cody - “Good luck, man.” Riddle smiles and nods, then fist bumps Cody before scootering off. Cobb and Cody look at each other and just shrug before going their separate ways.

The Beautiful People came to the ring next and complained about All Out, where UWA Women’s Champion Sasha Banks unfairly joined with Ronda Rousey and Paige VanZant to defeat the trio. Everyone in the world knows that any member of the Beautiful People could handle Rousey, VanZant or Banks on their own.
This brings out Rousey, who challenges any member of the Beautiful People to a match…right now!
Match 3 - Ronda Rousey (0-0) vs. Velvet Sky (1-0)
Rousey gets the win with the Piper’s Pit at 8:02. VanZant came to ringside to keep Angelina Love and Madison Rayne from interfering.

After the break, “Wild Thing” hits and the crowd goes wild. Jon Moxley walks through the crowd to get to the ring, where he grabs a mic.
“It’s been a long damn time coming. But, finally, I am free of the shackles of other wrestling promotions, and I have arrived here in All Elite Wrestling. The only thing I care about in all of the world is giving my all in this ring, entertaining the fans and winning championships. And that’s what I am in AEW to do.”
Jake Hager’s music hits, and out walks the All-American. “Welcome to AEW, Jonny! I figured I would take matters into my own hands and just come on out. It seems like I’m the welcoming committee here. Tony Khan booked me against Gable Steveson for his first match. And then he made me fight Samoa Joe, with no preparation. Everyone saw what I could do with just a little bit of preparation at All Out. I defeated Samoa f’n Joe!”
Jon - “Can you just shut up and get in this ring so I can kick your ass?”
Jake - “Uh-uh. Not that easy, Jonny. These fans here in dumpy Rutherford, New Jersey, don’t deserve to see me wrestle. We’re going to save our match for next week when AEW is at Arthur Ashe Stadium!”

Match 4 - The Acclaimed (1-1) vs. The American Wolves (6-3)
The two teams have swapped wins in recent weeks, and this is the rubber match. During the match, the camera sees The Outsiders watching from an upper level box seat, eating popcorn. The Acclaimed pulled off the win when Max Caster hit the Mic Drop elbow drop onto Davey Richards in 12:11. After the match, Tony Khan announces that The Acclaimed will receive a tag team title match next week when Dynamite is live from the historic Arthur Ashe Stadium!
—
Prior to the next match Malakai Black has the microphone - “The House of Black is an exclusive club. Those who are welcomed into my house are chosen for a reason. I don’t appreciate my House being tampered with. So, Raven - this is your singular warning. Stay away from my House.”
Main Event - Malakai Black (7-1) w/ The Butcher and the Blade vs. Jeff Cobb (6-3) w/ Matt Riddle
Black and Cobb have a tremendous back-and-forth match and clash of styles. Cobb blocked Black’s repeated strike attempts, while hitting a variety of suplexes. Cobb scores a nearfall after hitting a triple rolling gutwrench suplex. Cobb gets distracted when Beer Money comes to the ring and steals Riddle’s scooter. Riddle runs after them, and Cobb turns into a Black Mass. Black gets the win at 16:42 and celebrates as we cut to a promo for next week’s big Dynamite, live from Arthur Ashe Stadium!
