AEW Dynamite - Aug. 10, 2022
Madison, WI
AEW Dark recap from Monday - Hook (5-0) defeats Orange Cassidy (0-7) with the REDRUM at 4:45
The American Wolves (4-2) defeat local tag team
After the match, Max Caster and Anthony Bowens of The Acclaimed come to the stage. Caster has a mic and raps about the Wolves being all bark and no bite.
Velvet Sky (0-0) vs. Jamie Hayter (0-6) - Velvet wins with the #1 Stunna in 7 minutes
Dynamite -
We get the Dynamite intro, followed by crowd shots, and then Sasha Banks’ music hits and the crowd goes wild as the UWA Women’s Champion walks out to the stage, with her belt on her shoulder.
Sasha - “I am extremely excited to be here in Madison, Wisconsin, and on AEW Dynamite. I have held this championship for almost eight months, and I look forward to holding it for much longer as a member of All Elite Wrestling. It only seems fitting that The Boss is now #AllElite. I’m going to represent AEW across the world of professional wrestling. I’m also putting the current AEW Women’s Champion on notice. Jade, I know you’re a little busy right now with Brandi Rhodes and Alexa Bliss. And I also know you have a shot at my title coming up soon. I look forward to ending your undefeated streak.”

Match 1 - Matt Riddle (4-4) vs. Bobby Roode (0-0)
They have a back-and-forth match. James Storm interfered and tried spitting beer in Riddle’s face. Riddle ducked and the beer blinded Roode instead, allowing Riddle to notch the win with the Bro 2 Sleep in 9:43.
Riddle grabs a mic afterward. “Bobby, my bro. That was a helluva match. I know you’re a little busy next week, but The Chosen Bros want another run at Beer Money and The Apex. Our battles are far from over.”
—
Raven is sitting in a dark room backstage. He peers into the camera. “It seems I lost my way against Jeff Jarrett at Summer Smash. I was out of my element. My element is a little more hardcore. So what I’m going to do is lick my wounds a little, then go back to my extreme roots. There is someone else in AEW who I share a long history with. Someone who would put a little bit of extreme back into my step. But he doesn’t set foot in the ring any more. Luckily, he has got a son who has been setting the world on fire a little bit. It’s time for junior to step up to the big leagues. I’ll see you in two weeks, Hook.”
—
We see a vignette of Jake Hager training in the gym. He’s wearing a shirt that says Hager vs. Joe II.
—
Match 2 - Jurassic Express (Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy and Marko Stunt) (3-4) vs. House of Black (Butcher, Blade and Kidman) (1-5) w/ Malakai Black
The Blade pins Marko Stunt at 7:21. During the match, Malakai Black hit the Black Mass on Luchasaurus on the outside, without the ref seeing.
—
The members of Los Parks barge into LAX’s locker room, asking where Cesar Duran is. Konnan replies, “Who?,” which leads L.A. Park to spear Konnan. The two groups brawl until security arrives to separate them.
—
The Apex is backstage, complaining to Tony Khan.
Shawn Spears - “The only reason Gable Steveson interfered in my match last week was so he wouldn’t have to defend his championship against me. I deserve another shot, and sooner than later.”
JBL - “And, tonight, you have me up against that upstart punk? I’m not lacing my boots tonight unless the All-Atlantic Championship is on the line. And when I win, Shawn and I will have a gentleman’s contest for the title.”
Tony - “Hold on, the both of you. John, you haven’t earned a title shot. So I’m not granting it right now. You’ll go out there and compete tonight or you’ll be suspended indefinitely. And Shawn, you’re right. I’ll give you another chance. If you and JBL beat Cody and Gable next week at Blood and Guts.”
The two Apex members confer, then nod and walk off.
—
Match 3 - Alexa Bliss (0-0) vs. Cheerleader Melissa (1-1)
Alexa gets the win at 6:42 after a hard fought match. Alexa brought her doll, Lily, to the ring and played mind games with Melissa. She won with Sister Abigail.
—
After break, Dean Malenko comes to the ring wearing a suit and a dour expression. He stands in the ring with a mic. “When I came to AEW, I was filled with optimism for one final run as an in-ring performer. Instead, it’s become clear that I have lost a step. I’m no longer the Iceman. And last week was the last straw. So I’d like to announce…” He gets cut off by Peter Avalon’s music. Peter walks on the stage wearing a gaudy robe and a big smile.
Peter - “Before you go any further, Mr. Malenko, I have a proposition for you. I know you’ve had a rough go of things. But I think you still have something to give. In fact, I think you’ve just been waiting for the right opportunity. And, Dean, I am the right opportunity. Pretty Peter Avalon and the Iceman Dean Malenko could make a nice pair.”
Dean looks at Peter quizzically, then shrugs. “What the hell, why not? My retirement is on hold for now.”
—
JBL comes out first for his match with Gable Steveson. When Steveson gets to the ring, JBL grabs a mic and lays down. "Ring the bell. Since this isn't for the title, I'm going to just lay down." Gable asks if he'll fight for the belt, and JBL says yes. So Steveson confers with the ref and agrees to put the title on the line.
Match 4 - All-Atlantic Championship Match - Gable Steveson © (6-0) vs. JBL (2-1) - The Apex and Cody Rhodes are barred from ringside
When the bell rang, JBL hit Steveson with a Clothesline from Hell right away but just got a 1 count. JBL kept on the offensive, trying to wear Steveson down. Eventually, Steveson got the upper hand and put JBL down with an Olympic Slam at 10 minutes.
—
Jonathan Coachman is backstage with Paige VanZant.
Coach - “Congratulations, Paige, on your big win two weeks ago. You earned a week off, and in that time, the landscape of the AEW women’s division has shifted dramatically. What is your next step?”
Paige - “Coming off of the biggest win of my brief career, I’m finding myself caught between going after the gold, or confronting the Beautiful People. And, somehow, Alexa Bliss has inserted herself in line ahead of me. So I’ll continue to bide my time. And I’ll bite on the Beautiful People’s challenge. Madison Rayne, I’ll see you next week in Minnesota.”
—
Match 5 - Riho (4-1) vs. Brandi Rhodes (3-4) -
Brandi wins with the Shot of Brandi at 8:42.
Following the match, Jade Cargill’s music hits and she walks to the ring for a staredown with Brandi. The ref stands between them to separate them.
—
Backstage, Cody and Brandi Rhodes are talking.
Cody - “Just imagine - we could be the real First Family of AEW. You as the Women’s Champion. Me as the men’s World Champion.”
Brandi - “Don’t get ahead of yourself, babe. Jade is the real deal. I’m just glad to have you in my corner.”
—
Match 6 - 5150 (1-2) vs. the New Day (Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston) (4-2)
The New Day gets the win after Kofi hits the Trouble in Paradise at 8:55. After the match, Hernandez and Homicide hit the ring and the 4 members of the LAX stable start beating down the New Day. This brings out Los Parks, but before they hit the ring, Konnan shows up on the big screen, holding a tied up Cesar Duran by an open trunk. He tosses Duran in the trunk.
Konnan - “Los Parks - You either turn around right now, or I drive off with Cesar Duran and take him somewhere you’ll never find him.”
Los Parks look to the ring, where LAX/5150 continues beating down Kofi and Xavier. But they back off and run to the parking lot, where they find Duran unharmed in the trunk.
Meanwhile, in the ring, LAX is decimating the New Day. They’ve tied Kingston up in the ropes, and Hernandez hits the Border Toss on Woods. Rivera puts a chair under Woods’ head, while Homicide grabs another chair. He smashes it over Woods’ head. Once. Twice. Three times! Finally, Los Parks run back out and clear out the ring. Woods is out cold in the center of the ring as Kofi checks on him.
Medics come from the back and load Woods onto a stretcher. Los Parks stares down LAX as the show comes to an end and we get a final run-down of the Blood & Guts card.
