AEW Dynamite - July 6, 2022
From Philadelphia, PA
We get an opening video that recaps last week’s Dynamite, including Tony Khan making a five-man challenge for tonight. We then cut to the announce booth, where Taz and Coach run down the card.
Coach - “We are going to have a huge show tonight, where we will find out the final two competitors who will be a part of the Fight for the Fallen Tournament for the All-Atlantic Championship in two weeks. We’ll also see Serena Deeb in action against Brandi Rhodes, another Jade Cargill challenge and the Dynamite debut of Hook!”
Taz - “I can’t wait! But Hook has a tall order tonight. He’s facing Dean Melenko, who is looking to bounce back from a string of losses. And, in our main event, we’ll find out who Jeff Jarrett’s next challenger for the AEW World Championship will be. Who is going to be the Joker?”
Coach - “I’m not sure, Taz. But Tony Khan seems to be making a lot of moves recently. Over the past couple of months, we’ve seen the addition of John Bradshaw Layfield and Beer Money. Is tonight’s Joker someone new, or an existing member of the AEW family?”
Taz - “I’ve got no clue, Coach. The one thing I’m sure of - it isn’t Billy Kidman or Orange Cassidy. They’re in action next, and we’ll see who qualifies for the Fight for the Fallen!”
Match 1 - Fight for the Fallen Qualifier
Billy Kidman (1-2) vs. Orange Cassidy (0-5)
Kidman wins with the Seven Year Itch in 2:45.
—
When we come back from commercial, Jake Hager is in the ring with a mic. “Happy Independence Day, Philadelphia! I am your All-American, Jake Hager, and I’ve got a bone to pick with AEW and Tony Khan. It’s July, and yours truly has participated in a total of four matches in three months. We’ve got two premiere events this month, and I currently don’t have a spot at either of them. So this is me, taking my shot. Give me a spot on the Summer Smash card, Tony.”
—
Match 2 - Serena Deeb (3-2) vs. Brandi Rhodes (2-3)
Deeb wins at 8:42 with the Serenity Lock.
After the match, Deeb grabs the mic. “I noticed that Paige VanZant isn’t here tonight. I figure she is just afraid of tussling with me again. I even heard in the dirt sheets that Paige might be out of action for a while. So what is there for me to do in the meantime? …” Deeb’s mic cuts out.
The static-filled video cuts her off, with the unhinged female laughter. This time, as the clock is ticking to midnight, a date flickers below: 7/27/22.
—
Match 3 - Hook (4-0) vs. Dean Malenko (1-5)
Hook gets the win with REDRUM at 6:21. He walks to the back afterward, while Malenko slowly walks to the back, hanging his head.
—
LAX and 5150 are backstage, with Konnan, talking with each other. There’s a knock at the door, which Homicide answers. It’s the New Day!
Homicide - “What do you two want?”
Kofi - “Another chance. You guys beat us in the middle of the ring at Road Rager. Fair-and-square. Then you had the audacity to continue attacking after the match.” Konnan gets in Kofi’s face.
Konnan - “If my boys beat you once, what makes you think we want to give you another beating?”
Xavier - “It’s because, outside of the Steiners, we are the biggest names in the AEW tag team division. You want another shot at the gold? You need us to help get you there.” Konnan sneers and says, “Nah, hombre. Homicide and Hernandez have already proven they can beat you. I don’t see a reason for us to do it again.”
—
Match 4 - Fight for the Fallen Qualifier
Matt Riddle (3-3) vs. Danny Rivera (1-1)
Riddle hits the Bro 2 Sleep at 5:42 and gets the win.
As Riddle celebrates in the ring, Beer Money runs in and attacks, beating him down. They stay on the attack until Jeff Cobb runs out. As Beer Money walks up the ramp, James Storm has the mic. “Look, y’all. I know you’re a little bit busy with the Fight for the Fallen Tournament right now. But at Summer Smash, Beer Money is going to make our AEW debut and wipe the floor with the both of you. Bobby, what is Beer Money’s debut going to be like?” Bobby - “It’ll be… glorious!”
—
Jade Cargill comes to the ring with her microphone and a scowl on her face. “I’m not sure who is behind these little videos, but you’ve had your fun. In fact, I invite you to respond to my weekly challenge. I know you aren’t here tonight, but I hope to see you soon.
“Before I move onto my opponent tonight, I want to draw everyone’s attention to the big screen.”
We see a replay of Jade winning a chance at the UWA Women’s Title during the SuperCard this past weekend after pinning Thunder Rosa to close out the Scramble.
“That’s right - ya’ girl, Jade Cargill, is now in line for a UWA Title Shot. I’m ready to take it to the best in all of wrestling. I will knock Sasha Banks out and reign as the top woman in all of professional wrestling.
As for tonight - bring out my opponent!”
Free agent Ashley Vox walks down to the ring. If she wins tonight, she will earn an AEW contract and a title shot.
Match 5 - Non-Title - Jade Cargill (6-0) vs. Ashley Vox
Jade gets the win in 3:25 with the Jaded Finisher
—
Each of the four known competitors for the main event makes his entrance. They’re standing in the ring, waiting to learn who the fifth opponent will be, when “Come Out and Play” by the Offspring hits the speakers, and out walks Raven!
Taz - “Oh, man. Things are about to get crazy. Raven is one bad dude. I should know! And he’s got a history with our AEW World Champion, Jeff Jarrett. Let’s go!”
Main Event - Five-man challenge to be named #1 contender to AEW World Championship -
Cody Rhodes vs. Andrade El Idolo vs. Scott Steiner vs. John Bradshaw Layfield vs. Raven
It’s first fall gets the win, as the five wrestlers square off with each other. Cody and Andrade squared off, while Scott and JBL did, and Raven lounged in the corner. Davey Richards interfered to attack Scott, and they brawled through the crowd.
Late in the match, Cody hit a CrossRhodes on Andrade, only for JBL to attack him. As they spilled to the floor, Raven hit the Evenflow DDT on Andrade and scored the pinfall at 18:32 to be named the number 1 contender to the AEW World Championship.
