AEW Dynamite - June 8, 2022
Live in Austin, TX.
We get the opening video package, followed by crowd shots, before cutting to the announce desk with Taz and Jonathan Coachman.
Taz - “It’s Wednesday night, and you know what that means! Another explosive episode of AEW Dynamite!”
Coach - “That’s right, Taz, and we are on a fast track to the next premiere event - Dynamite: Road Rager - in just 2 weeks. We’ve already got two big title matches set for the card in Jeff Jarrett vs. Matt Riddle, and the Steiners vs. the American Wolves. Will we see more Road Rager matches set tonight?”
Taz - “I’d certainly think so, Coach. But that’s looking a little too far ahead. Tonight, we’ve got Rick Steiner’s AEW singles debut against Davey Richards of the American Wolves; JBL will make his AEW debut against Marko Stunt; Matt Riddle and Jeff Cobb will team up; and we’ve got a huge eight-man tag main event that pits the LAX stable against the team of The New Day and Los Parks.”
Coach - “What a huge show, Taz. And we’re going to start off with a spurned Dean Malenko trying to earn a spot in The Apex in a match against Shawn Spears. Let’s get to the ring!”
Match 1 - Dean Malenko (1-3) vs. Shawn Spears (1-2)
Spears defeats Malenko with the C4 at 8:33. After the match, Malenko looks upset, while Jarrett’s music hits. He walks out with his championship, a microphone and JBL. They get to the ring and surround Malenko.
Jarrett - “Unfortunately, Dean, you just proved that you don’t belong in The Apex. Shawn Spears did his job and defeated you fairly and squarely in the middle of the ring. Your usefulness to me has come to an end.” Jarrett nods to JBL, who clotheslines Malenko to Hell. The Apex starts stomping on Malenko. And out run Riddle, Cobb and The Hurricane. The heels bail. As Malenko recovers, Riddle offers his hand. Malenko looks around, slaps the hand away and leaves the ring, with his shoulders slouched. Riddle grabs a mic.
Riddle - “Jeffrey Jarrett, when we came into All Elite Wrestling a couple months ago, I looked up to you. But as time has gone on, I’ve started to see you for what you are: A bully. And, man, I know how to deal with bullies. Sometimes we can turn into buddies. But we have passed beyond that point, Mr. Double J, sir. Come Road Rager in two weeks, I’m going to become the second AEW World Champion.”
Cobb grabs the mic - “I don’t think you said ‘bro’ enough, Matt.”
Riddle - “Bro…in that case, let’s go get ready for our match later. I need a pizza.”
The three friends head to the back, while The Apex gives them a wide berth, as JBL is in the next match.

Match 2 - John Bradshaw Layfield (0-0) vs. Marko Stunt (0-1)
JBL wins in 2:45 after a Clothesline from Hell and a Powerbomb.
—
A cryptic video filled with static and slightly unhinged female laughter plays briefly. It ends with a clock ticking toward midnight.
—
Paige VanZant is backstage - “At Double or Nothing’s Buy-In, I had a chance to make a splash and earn another shot at Jade Cargill and the AEW Women’s Championship. Then Serena Deeb butted in and took me out of action. Serena - I don’t care when it is. But I want you in the ring. You will be the first rung on the ladder that ultimately takes me back to Jade Cargill and championship glory.”
—
Match 3 - Rick Steiner (0-0) vs. Davey Richards (0-0)
During the match, Eddie Edwards appears on the screen. He’s standing outside the Steiners’ locker room, holding a sledgehammer. He knocks on the door and says “delivery” in an exaggerated Texas accent. Scott opens the door and gets smacked in the face with the sledgehammer. Rick sees this and immediately bolts from the ring. He gets counted out at 7:33 after a back-and-forth match.
The camera follows Rick to the back. When he gets to his brother, Edwards is long gone and Scott is starting to come to.

A sitdown interview filmed earlier in the week between Jonathan Coachman and Gable Steveson -
Coach - “Gable, thank you for joining me. Since joining All Elite Wrestling, you’ve notched two huge wins against great competitors. What is your next step?”
Gable - “My next step is to continue winning and proving that I’m the best in this company. I know that I’m starting at the bottom. But I intend to wear gold around my waist before the end of this year.”
Coach - “Do you have any dream opponents?”
Gable - “My dream opponent is whoever has the gold right now. But I’ve got more to prove before I tackle Jeff Jarrett.”
Coach - “Wow, going after the big guns already. Speaking of the big guns, what is your reaction to Brian Cage’s attack on the ref, and his suspension?”
Gable - “I would like to say I was shocked by Brian’s attack on the ref, but that would frankly be a lie. He attacked an Olympic hero to get my attention. He is a loose cannon who has no off switch. He’s dangerous and deserves to be out of this sport altogether.”
Coach - “Strong words from an Olympic hero in his own right. Thanks for taking the time to chat, Gable.”
—
Match 4 - The Butcher & The Blade vs. Matt Riddle & Jeff Cobb (1-0)
Riddle and Cobb pick up the win after Riddle hits the Bro 2 Sleep on the Blade and Cobb hits the Tour of the Islands at 6:55.
After Riddle and Cobb get to the back, Cody emerges, carrying a chain. The Butcher comes after him, and Cody knocks him down with a chain-enhanced punch. He gets into the ring, where the Blade is recovering from the Tour of the Islands. Cody hits the Tiger Driver ‘98 on the Blade and picks up a mic. As he’s doing that, the Butcher pulls the Blade from the ring and they walk to the back.
Cody - “That’s also what I have come to expect from the House of Black. Tucking your tails between your legs when something goes the wrong way. Smoke and mirrors; avoidance of issues. … Cowardice.” Cody pauses and shifts the chain he’s been carrying. It’s got two leather collars attached to either end. “I know that I’ve been coming back to the well time and again. I was talking to my brother recently, and he told me that I’ve got to move on. But I just can’t move on. That’s because I know that I can beat Malakai Black. I clearly made a mistake last time by giving him a way out. So, this time, there will be no way to escape from my reach…
“So what do you say, Malakai? The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes against Malakai Black one last time. But this time, instead of you chaining me to the cage, we’ll be chained together. You won’t be able to run from me this time. Your nightmare is just beginning.”
—
Serena Deeb joins commentary for the next match, and is asked about her attack on VanZant, and Paige’s challenge - “Paige VanZant doesn’t want anything to do with me. Here in AEW, we all want the same damn thing. And that’s the gold around Jade Cargill’s waist. I was making a statement at Double or Nothing, and I’ll make another statement at Road Rager when I pin Paige in the middle of the ring.”
Match 5 - Riho (3-0) vs. Michelle McCool (3-1)
Riho gets the win in 7:11 with a running knee strike. After the match, Jade Cargill comes out on stage, carrying the women’s championship belt.
Cargill - “It has come to my attention that you, Riho, are the top contender for my championship. And the date has been set - Cargill vs. Riho. Next week. I’ll toss you around this ring just like I’ve tossed every other woman in AEW. See you soon.” She smiles and turns to leave.

Main Event - The New Day & Los Parks (L.A. Park & L.A. Park Jr.) vs. LAX (5150/LAX)
LAX picks up the win after a hot main event, when Hernandez hits the Border Toss on Woods, following Konnan tripping Woods up from the outside, in 19:03.
