AEW Dynamite - May 4, 2022 - Live from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Fla.
AEW Commentary Team - Taz and Jonathan Coachman
We start with a recap from last week’s Fyter Fest edition of Dynamite — Hernandez winning the Casino Battle Royale in impressive fashion, while Xavier Woods lasted from the beginning to the end; Jeff Cobb and Jeff Jarrett winning their matches to qualify for the World Championship match at Double or Nothing; Jade Cargill’s championship win and Michelle McCool’s appearance; and Gable Steveson’s Olympic slam and win over Jake Hager.
We get the opening video, a panning shot of the crowd and then Jeff Jarrett’s music hits. He walks out with a big smile on his face and a guitar over his shoulder. He walks to the ring and grabs a microphone.
Jarrett - “I told Tony Khan during the first episode of Dynamite, and I proved it last week at Fyter Fest. I am the man who will carry the torch of All Elite Wrestling forward. At the end of this month, you will be looking at your first AEW World Champion! Now, I know I still need to beat Jeff Cobb in this ring. But I’m not worried about that. Before he turned up here, I had to Google him just to find out who he was. Cobb, you’re stepping in the ring with an icon in this business. Good luck, son.” Matt Riddle’s music hits, and out comes the Original Bro to the stage.
Riddle - “Double J, Jeffrey Jarrett. Congratulations on your victory last week. I know your cheap shot on me two weeks ago was all about competition. I’m a competitive bro, too. I look forward to the Battle of the Jeffs later this month. I also wish to inform you that you didn’t pin me last week, and I plan to be first in line to challenge for the championship!” Jarrett smiles and brings the mic back to his mouth.
Jarrett - “The last I checked, bro, you haven’t even won a match in AEW yet. Why don’t you go get yourself a pinfall, then come back and talk to me.” Riddle nods his head and says “You’re on, bro!” and skips to the back. Jarrett is about to continue when Baron Corbin’s music hits, and he walks out. Jarrett’s shoulders slump as Corbin starts to talk.
Corbin - "Mr. Jarrett! Fool me once, shame on you! I had Riddle down for the count until you double-crossed me. And, truly, I'm not upset about you breaking up the pin. It's every man for himself and you did what you had to do. But to go on and kick me in the balls? Literally and figuratively? Come on, man!"
Jarrett - "As you said, every man for himself. Now, kindly tell me what you're doing out here and then get away so I can carry on with my business."
Corbin - "I'm here to tell you that I've already talked to Tony Khan, and he has agreed to give me a shot against you tonight, one-on-one! I aim to prove that I belong in the ring with you. And this time, below the belt shots are illegal!"
Jarrett - "I look forward to pinning you again tonight."
Match 1 - Brian Cage (0-1) vs. Orange Cassidy (0-0)
Cassidy started the match with one of his trademark tap-kicks, with his hands in his pockets. This infuriates Cage, who unleashes on Cassidy with a variety of moves, finishing him off with the Drill Claw at 2:33. Cage grabs the mic afterward.
Cage - "I'm fighting for the chance at a world championship shot a couple weeks ago, and now I get paired up with this joke of a wrestler!? Puh-leeeeze. I am Brian f'n Cage. I'm a physical freak. And next week, in Iowa, I'm going to issue a challenge to an Olympic Gold Medalist!" He slams the mic down and walks off.

**Promo - Introducing AEW Dark! AEW’s new, online-only show, featuring a variety of otherwise untelevised matches, will begin airing next Monday, May 9!**
We come back from commercial to find Malakai Black in the ring with a microphone.
Black - “Two weeks ago, the so-called American Nightmare issued a challenge to me. Unfortunately, he has declined to appear here tonight. Because he is afraid of failure and a swift kick to the head.” This brings out Tony Khan.
Khan - “Malakai Black. Thus far, I have stayed silent while you have wreaked havoc on Cody Rhodes. Unfortunately, you have put me in a position where I now have to take action. Unless I hear differently, I can only assume that you were last week’s mystery attacker of Cody Rhodes.” Black just glares at Tony. “Whether it was you personally or an acolyte, the actions have deprived our great fans of a marquee matchup tonight. I have heard from Cody, however, and he will be cleared to compete next week. Malakai Black vs. Cody Rhodes, live in Iowa City, Iowa.” Black smirks. “But you also aren’t getting off easy tonight. In fact, right now you’re taking on Billy Kidman!”
Match 2 - Malakai Black (0-0) vs. Billy Kidman (0-1)
Black defeats Kidman after hitting the Black Mass in 4:54. Kidman got in some offense early, but Black overwhelmed Kidman and won. After scoring the fall, the lights turned out. When they came back on, two masked men were in the ring and Black had disappeared. As Kidman rose, the smaller masked man hit him with a pipe to knock him out. The larger masked man picked Kidman up over his shoulder and carried Kidman to the back.

We are backstage with the Steiners, who are holding the tag team titles.
Scott - “We are who we thought we were! Hah. I tell you what, man. That big hoss, He-Man? He’s got some power in him. But not enough to beat the Big, Bad Booty Daddy and the Dog-Faced Gremlin. And that’s why we are the first and only AEW Tag Team Champions!” Rick Steiner starts barking, until Konnan walks up surrounded by the LAX stable.
Konnan - “You got lucky last week. My boys will be right back in line for another shot. The only reason you won last week was because Hernandez had to run the Casino Battle Royale gauntlet. Give us one more chance and we will prevail.” This brings over Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods of The New Day.
Scott - “What is this? Some kind of tag team powwow? Where’s the Jungle kid and T-Rex?”
Xavier - “Konnan, man. How are you!? I used to love kicking your butt on WCW/NWO Revenge!” Konnan just scowls. “As the man who lasted the entire Casino Battle Royale, I’d like to toss The New Day into the conversation. Just imagine it. A dream match — Steiners vs. The New Day. The classic era versus the new era.”
Konnan - “You still need to go through us before you get to them.”
Scott - “You guys are all annoying me. Just let me know who I can punch in the mouth."
Match 3 - Xavier Woods vs. Slice Boogie
Xavier Woods wins at 8:12 with the Shining Wizard.
Jonathan Coachman stands up at the announce booth with a microphone for an announcement. “Xavier! I’ve just been informed by Mr. Khan that he has booked a tag team title contender’s match for next week between The New Day and LAX! Winners go on to face the Steiners at Double or Nothing!”

Matt Riddle is backstage and comes across Shane Helms, sans his Hurricane gear.
Riddle - "Hey, man. Nice to meet you! I was looking for the green weatherman. Have you seen him? I just wanted his advice on who I should challenge for my first win. He's a smart guy."
Helms - "Matt, I haven't seen him. But I do have an idea for you." Helms puts his arm around Riddle and starts talking to him as we cut to commercial.

Jade Cargill walks to the ring with a big smile on her face, wearing a crown and holding the Women’s Championship. She takes her time getting to the ring and grabs a mic.
Jade - “I told all of you here in Jacksonville last time. I told Paige VanZant. She took a cheap shot at me, and I whooped her a** at Fyter Fest and I became the AEW Women’s Champion! I’ve proved that I am the baddest b**** on the planet, and nobody in that locker room can hold a candle to me.” Michelle McCool’s music hits, and Jade rolls her eyes. Out walks AEW’s newest women’s wrestler.
Michelle - “Congratulations, Jade. I’m glad that you got your moment in the sun, and that you were able to win in your home state, and celebrate here in front of your hometown fans. However, I think it’s far too soon to say that none of the talented women in the locker room have a chance against you. I mean, you’ve faced two of them? When I signed on to All Elite Wrestling, I simply asked Tony Khan to give me a chance to lead the division. And he’s giving me that chance when I face you at Double or Nothing for the championship! I also said I didn’t want to wait that long to get in the ring, so tonight I am facing Brandi Rhodes. I am going to follow your path to the belt, and then take it from you.” Jade sneers at Michelle, then hops out of the ring and grabs a ringside seat to watch the match.
Match 4 - Michelle McCool (0-0) vs. Brandi Rhodes (0-1)
McCool and Rhodes have a feeling out session at the beginning of the match, and Brandi takes control with a series of kicks. McCool eventually works her way back and wins with the Faithbreaker at 6:08. Ringside, Jade stands and claps at Michelle before walking off.
Commercial break
We are backstage following Matt Riddle on his scooter. He comes to the locker room and enters to find Dean Malenko.
Matt - “Dean! Man, I’m so glad I found you. On the first episode of Dynamite, we had a banger of a match. But, man, you surprised me with a quick pin. Mr. Double J told me earlier today that I needed to win a match before I would be taken seriously. And then I talked to this Shane guy who is good friends with the weatherman, and he suggested that I try to avenge my loss. I wasn’t sure it was a great idea, but you know what? You’re such a great competitor, man, and it would mean a lot if I could just have one more chance.”
Dean stares at him for a moment, then replies. “You are a lot to take. But all right. Next week: Matt Riddle and Dean Malenko, take two. This time I’ll make you tap out.”
Riddle extends his hand to shake on it, but Malenko walks off.
Match 5 - SoCal Uncensored (Scorpio Sky & Frankie Kazarian) (0-2) vs. Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus) (1-1)
SCU gets the win after a back-and-forth match when Sky hits the Ace of Spades on Jungle Boy at 12:10.
---
Jeff Cobb is standing backstage with Coach.
Coach - “Congratulations, Jeff, on your big win last week. What do you think about your chances later this month against Jeff Jarrett?”
Cobb - “My chances? I’m going to give Jeff a personal tour of the islands and walk out of Double or Nothing as the champion. He is too focused on other people and doesn’t realize what is about to hit him in the face.”
Coach - “How are you going to prepare these next few weeks?”
Cobb - “I want to get back in the ring and kick some more tail. Next week, I’m issuing an open challenge to anyone in the locker room who wants to try to topple the Eater of Worlds!”
Main Event - Jeff Jarrett (3-0) vs. Baron Corbin (1-1)
Jarrett defeats Corbin in 13:23 with the Stroke, following a low blow behind the ref’s back.
Jeff Cobb comes to the stage to stare down Jarrett as the show ends.
