PRO WRESTLING X
"ANGLE VERSUS BENOIT"
From the Tingley Coliseum
Albuquerque, New Mexico
07/102/2021
After a quick flash of the PWX logo, we hear the following "Here to Stay" by Korn instrumental as the opening video montage begins to play.
We see various clips of different moves from previous events, such as Sabu being powerbombed off the top through a table on the floor; Damian Priest hitting Ron Killings with Hit The Lights; Ronda Rousey and Nia Jax arguing near the crowd; Matt Riddle tapping out Kyle O'Reilly; Ken Shamrock elbowing Goldberg into a bloody mess to get a TKO victory; and Brock Lesnar tapping out Kevin Nash with the Brock Lock.
We then cut to the ringside area, where we see an explosion of pyro and a crowd of 10,500 here in Albuquerque, screaming and cheering for the night of action to come! We then go to ringside, where play-by-play commentator Jimmy Smith and color analyst Montel Vontavious Porter are standing in, smiling and taking in the crowd reaction.
Jimmy gives a big, excited greeting to the fans, as MVP notes just how raucous and ready this crowd is tonight. Jimmy says they've got some HUGE match ups tonight, and not just the main event for the evening, Kurt Angle versus Chris Benoit! MVP says we have Shinsuke Nakamura taking on CM PUNK, and the HARDY BOYZ facing off with the Motor City Machine Guns! Smith says any of those matches could top the bill on any card in America, while MVP says he expects things to really heat up tonight. The color man notes that Benoit and Angle have crossed paths before and he expects they will show NO MERCY tonight and expects them to try to tear each other apart as they try to position themselves for title contention.
They then send things over to near the stage, where we see Dasha Gonzalez standing in.
She thanks the guys for the introduction and thanks the fans for tuning in. She then says that Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit have been preparing rigorously for this match, and she was able to sit down and speak with both of them ahead of this contest!
We then go to a pretaped video montage to hype the main event of the evening.
Dramatic, plodding music plays as we see Chris Benoit jogging up a road lined with trees. We then see Kurt Angle wrestling on a mat with various training partners. Chris Benoit can then be seen in a small, wood paneled room trading holds in work out clothes with various partners. We then see Dasha sitting with Benoit, who has ice bags taped to his knees.
Dahsa begins, "We are here in Calgary, Canada, at Hart House, where Chris Benoit has been living for the last six weeks in preparation for his match with Kurt Angle. Chris, what made you decide to leave Atlanta and come back to the Dungeon before this match?"
Chris winces, "You know, I've seen ups and downs in my career. The trajectory can change very quickly. One second I'm up on top, the next minute I'm out of my ass. I found myself out on my ass and I had to take a hard look in the mirror, Dasha. I had to take a look in the mirror and be honest about the man lookin' back at me, and I knew what I saw wasn't good enough to hang with Kurt Angle, a 'Wrestling Machine.' I needed to get back to my roots and harden myself. Eat, sleep, and breathe the training. I know Kurt Angle, and I know what he is capable of. I'm ready to be back on top, which means I've got to have a champion's mentality; a champion's HUNGER! 'The Rabid Wolverine' is hungry again, Dasha, and I'm ready for Saturday night."
We then cut to a wrestling gym, where we see Kurt Angle land a suplex on a training partner before cutting to him standing with a towel around his neck leaning against a training dummy.
Dasha then begins to question Angle. "Kurt, you know Chris is training hard for this, he went back to the Dungeon to prepare."
"Yeah, yeah, I heard somethin' about that. That's interesting."
"Have you been doing anything special to train for this match, and how do you feel going into the bout? Any nerves, jitters?"
Kurt laughs a bit and spits off to the side, clearing his throat before he begins.
"Listen, you know, I've been in there with Chris a number of times. We've both been in this rodeo a LOOONNGGG TIME, Dasha. Long enough to know what the danger is, what the night going to hold, you know? It's gonna be a frickin' war, and that's what I've been preparing for. I know the caliber of guys I'm stacked up against here in PWX. You see names like Lesnar, Shamrock, Goldberg, Nash, on and on, you know it's time to eat your Wheaties and roll up your sleeves, because it's going to be hard work getting to the top. But I've been to the top, Dasha, I've been as high as anybody in this business, in this SPORT, and I will be there again... oh, it's true, IT'S DAMN TRUE!"
We then cut to a slowed down clip of Angle rolling a training partner into a leg scissors, right into the Ankle Lock and cinching it in as the montage comes to a close.
We cut back to Dasha, who says that both men showed a lot of intensity and she says she can't wait to see this match and sends it back to Jimmy and MVP, who then go over the first match of the evening.
We head to the ring!
We get a quick graphic for referees sanctioned and ready to call the action this evening:
Senior Official Earl Hebner, Teddy Long, Charles Robinson, and Chad Patton.
We then cut to the ring for our first match!
Jerry Lynn vs. Karrion Kross
Referee: Chad Patton
Lynn would start this match hot hitting low dropkicks and armdrags, but the tables would turn after Kross caught him flush with a straight kick to the face. Kross would deliver a Doomsday Saito Suplex after that, and he would play to the crowd, yelling and flexing as MVP noted just the sick angle Lynn's head landed on the mat. Kross would proceed to deliver a Lariat to the back of Lynn's head, planting his fist in the mat for effect, before stalking and then menacing over Lynn who was squirming on the mat. Once Lynn got to all fours, Kross would blast him with one crossface punch... and then another... before plowing him to the back of the neck with a forearm and then locking on a Rear Naked Choke for the submission. Chad Patton has to physically break up the choke, and warns Kross about his conduct. Jimmy Smith talks about the domination that Kross displayed, while MVP notes that he's going to a big problem here in PWX.
Winner by Submision: Karrion Kross
Before the next match, we go back to Dasha Gonzalez, who is standing on a platform next to the stage with a mic in hand. She says she spoke with Vampiro, one of the next contestants, earlier in the evening. He says he has been in a dark place since losing to Damian Priest back at PWX 1, and says he is out for blood tonight! She says he seemed scary focused, as Vampiro makes his way to the ring, walking past her on the entrance ramp, and then we head to the ring.
Eddie Edwards vs. Vampiro
Referee: Teddy Long
Edwards would try to make this a wrestling match early, taking Vampiro down and locking him up with an armbar. Vampiro would get to the ropes and back flip out of that, and proceed to unleash an array of kicks, one more lethal than the next! Vampiro would deliver a Standing Uranage Suplex, crushing Edwards on the back of his head and neck before delivering the Nail in the Coffin for the three count.
Winner by Pinfall: Vampiro
Vampiro gets right up on the ringside camera and says he's not finished, and that he will get what he wants! MVP says he knows that the loss to Damian Priest is eating him up and he's not going to be able to get back into a good head space until he can redeem himself. He says he appears to be a man on the brink of a mental breakdown, and that makes him very dangerous.
We get a hype video for the next contest, as we see some of the more daring maneuvers of both Sabu and PCO. We see Sabu pointing to the sky backstage, as Jimmy Smith says the "Homicidal, Suicidal, Genocidal Maniac" is ready to return to a PWX ring! We then see a video of PCO punching a heavy bag before a man in a black shirt and long hair comes up to him and places jumper cables to his chest, causing PCO to cry out like a madman, and MVP is audibly shook by the image and talks about how crazy this next match is going to be!
We head to the ring to witness this mayhem!
PCO vs. Sabu
Referee: Charles Robinson
The first big bump of this match happened as PCO went to the outside to grab a chair and as he was heading back into the ring Sabu dropkicked the chair into his face sending him into a flat back bump right onto the floor! The thud was sickening, but PCO just seemed to continue on without being phased. PCO would perform a double hand choke to Sabu against the turn post before tossing him over the railing into the crowd, smashing him through a row of chairs! Sabu would grab a chair and launch it at PCO, smacking him over the head before running and jumping off the railing and delivering a Leg Lariat to smash PCO into the apron! PCO would smash Sabu into the apron and then set him up and deliver a Cannonball off the middle rope, smashing Sabu's upperbody into the apron! PCO would set Sabu up on a table on the outside and then head up to the top turnbuckle, attempting a PCOsault through the table, but Sabu dodged it and PCO smashed through it in crazy fashion!
Jimmy Smith lets out an "OH MY GOD!" as the fans chant "PWX! PWX! PWX!"
Charles Robinson checks on PCO and begs him to give it up, but PCO pushes his way out of the debris and wants to continue.
MVP says he doesn't know how either man is going to walk out of here as the match continues. Sabu gets PCO into the ring and delivers an Arabian Facebuster with the chair, smashing it into PCO's face, but only a two count! Sabu runs off the ropes, but PCO catches him and delivers a Pop-Up Powerbomb on the chair, covering and only getting a two! PCO picks up Sabu and yells out, delivering a Short Arm Lariat, before stomping around the ring and pumping the fans up! PCO then lifts Sabu onto his shoulders and proceeds to plow him into the buckles with a Death Valley Driver! The Canadian madman then heads up top, but Sabu manages to get back to his feet briefly and dive towards the ropes, knocking PCO off balance and crotching him on the top turnbuckle! From there, Sabu rushes up as quickly as he can and delivers a Frankensteiner, getting a big pop from the crowd! Sabu then grabs a chair and heads up top... and then he flips down and RIGHT ONTO PCO'S UNPROTECTED HEAD WITH THE ARABIAN SKULLCRUSHER!
Sabu makes the cover, barely hooking the leg but it's all over, he gets the win!
Winner by Pinfall: Sabu
After going to the announcer's table where Jimmy and MVP decompress after that wild match, they send us back over to Dasha next to the stage, where she is standing in with PWX executive producer, Eric Bischoff!
Bischoff announces some matches for the next card, "PWX 4: LESNAR VS. SHAMROCK" from the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, CA. He says that in the main event we will see BROCK LESNAR TAKE ON KEN SHAMROCK TO CROWN THE FIRST EVER PWX PREMIER CHAMPION!
Also on the card we will see DIAMOND CUTTER VERSUS RKO... DDP VERSUS RANDY ORTON!
And it has been confirmed, in women's action, we will see "THE BADDEST WOMAN ON THE PLANET" RONDA ROUSEY TAKING ON "THE IRRESISTABLE FORCE" NIA JAX!
This all gets a good pop, as Bischoff talks about the ticket details and VIP packages, and then we head back to the announce team.
Bill Goldberg vs. Konnan
Referee: Earl Hebner
Konnan started hot on Goldberg with punches and kicks before he was powered over with just a brute strength shove from "Da Man". Konnan would answer back with a dropkick, followed by a Swinging Headscissors that sends Goldberg to the mat and then pulling himself back up in the corner. Konnan runs over to Goldberg in the corner and delivers a Monkey Flip, BUT GOLDBERG LANDS ON HIS FEET! Konnan gets up to find Goldberg standing there and his eyes go wide before Goldberg cuts him in half with a SPEAR! Goldberg pops up and taunts for the crowd, who are cheering him on and chanting his name! Goldberg picks up Konnan and drills him to the mat with the Jackhammer, and it's all over. Goldberg gets the win.
Winner by Pinfall: Bill Goldberg
Dasha stops Goldberg on his way back up the ramp and congratulates him on a very impressive performance. She says that was awesome, and wants to know what's next for Goldberg. Goldberg smirks and spits off to the side and says he heard Lesnar and Shamrock are fighting for the belt next show. He says he'd have no problem beating down Brock, or handing Shamrock a receipt for that B.S. finish back at PWX 1. He says it doesn't matter, Lesnar or Shamrock, the answer is the same... YOU'RE NEXT!!!
Goldberg marches to the back as Dasha sends it back to the guys at the announce table.
The Hardy Boyz: Jeff and Matt Hardy vs. The Motor City Machine Guns: Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley
Referee: Teddy Long
This was a fun back and forth dream match, as the legendary Hardy Boyz took on the speedy Detroit natives in a fun tag team contest. Shelley and Sabin would try to use quick tags and fast action to isolate Matt Hardy early in the match. They would deliver the ASCS Rush to Matt and Sabin attempted to get the pinfall, but Jeff would break it up. Sabin and Shelley would put the boots to Matt as the referee regained order, and then they hit a Powerbomb/Lung Blower combo, with Shelley trying for the pinfall, but still just a two count! Hardy would manage to reverse a whip attempt by Shelley into the Side Effect, and then he made the hot tag to Jeff, who got a huge pop from the crowd! Jeff would deliver a big flying clothesline to Shelley, followed by Dropkicking Sabin off the apron! Jeff takes Shelley down and delivers a Leg Drop to the groin of Shelley as Matt Hardy flies off the top and hits a Guillotine Legdrop, and Jeff goes for the cover but Sabin breaks it up at the last second!
Matt and Chris trade punches as Shelley delivers a low blow to Jeff behind Teddy Long's back. Shelley hits the Final Cut and goes for the pinfall on Jeff, but Jeff kicks out at two, much to Shelley's surprise! Alex grabs Jeff's head and tries for Sliced Bread #2, but Jeff reverses it mid-move and sends Shelley stumbling back. Shelley tries to charge Jeff, but Jeff is up the buckles and hits the Whisper in the Wind! Jeff hops over and tags Matt, who's back in position, and then Jeff flies to the outside right onto Chris Sabin! Matt kicks Shelley and delivers the Twist of Fate! Matt pops back up and finds Jeff back in position, his shirt pulled off and they have this crowd rocking! Matt tags Jeff as he is climbing up the turnbuckles... and he flies off, delivering the SWANTON BOMB!
Jeff hooks the leg, knowing he has it and the fans count to the three! The Hardy Boyz get the win and this New Mexico crowd is eating it up!
Winners by Pinfall: The Hardy Boyz
We get a video package for the next match between CM Punk and Shinsuke Nakamura. Nakamura says that CM Punk is full of himself, but he is about to step into the ring with a true rockstar in wrestling, but also a man who can destroy him. Punk says that Nakamura made a reputation for himself over in Japan, but it's one thing to be a big star in Japan and another to be the "Best in the World", and he says he is levels above Nakamura and Shinsuke is going to learn that tonight.
We head to the ring for this next exciting contest!
CM Punk vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
Referee: Charles Robinson
Punk and Nakamura both show each other due respect and we have a feeling out process to get things going. Punk seems to frustrate Nakamura, leading Nakamura to start unloading on Punk with strikes, rocking the Chicago native. Nakamura locks on a Flying Cross Armbar and Punk has to scramble to the ropes for the break. Punk is able to avoid a boot in the corner later in the match and caught Nakamura with a Springboard Clothesline for a two count! Nakamura grabs onto Charles Robinson, but the referee tells him to get his hands off of him, but Nakamura is looking to break up the onslaught and catch a breather. No such luck. Punk sends him into the corner and delivers bulldog, getting another two count. Punk goes up to the top turnbuckle, but Nakamura is back up and he leaps, catching him with a kick to the face in an amazing display of athleticism. "The King of Strong Style" gets back to his feet and rushes once more, pulling Punk down into a Cross Armbar again, but Punk is trying everything he can to escape, finally fighting and flailing his way to the ropes to break again.
Nakamura gets back up and tries for the Boma Ye quickly, but Punk ducks it and delivers a series of strikes before trying for a Uranage, but Nakamura elbows his way out! Nakamura attempts a high Roundhouse Kick, but Punk ducks it. Punk tries for a high Roundhouse kick of his own, but Nakamura blocks it and tries for a spinning back chop, but Punk ducks that and pulls Nakamura down with a Backslide for a two count. Nakamura is on his knees and Punk delivers a Shining Wizard! Punk calls for the Go To Sleep and picks up Nakamura on his shoulders, but Nakamura fights his way out of it again with elbows and knees. Nakamura then lifts Punk onto his shoulders, but Punk slides off and hammerlocks Nakamura, ducking under and delivering a Pepsi Twist lariat! Punk rolls to the corner and then climbs to the top rope... he poses on top and then flies off, driving an Elbowdrop to the heart of Nakamura! Punk hooks the leg, Charles Robinson makes the count, but Nakamura kicks out at two!
Punk is feeling the fatigue, but he grabs Nakamura by the head and tries to lock on the Anaconda Vise, but Nakamura is blocking it and fighting it, and Nakamura manages to break free and grab him from behind. Nakamura delivers a fast German Suplex, holding for a two count. Nakamura pops up and tries for the Boma Ye once more, but Punk dodges it and rolls Nakamura up with a School Boy for a two count! Both men are up and trading open hand back and forth strikes. Nakamura tries for a high kick but Punk ducks it and he lands the high Roundhouse kick, staggering Nakamura... Punk has Nakamura up on his shoulders and the fans are on their feet... GO TO SLEEP! PUNK HITS THE GTS! MVP notes how exhausted Punk is as he slowly and sort of limply makes the cover, but Robinson counts the three and it's all over!
Winner by Pinfall: CM Punk
Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle
Referee: Earl Hebner
These two started off at a fever pitch, trading pinfall attempts and attempting submissions, but the reversals were coming fast and furious. Benoit would nearly snare Angle in the Crossface, and it caused Angle to take a break to the outside, slamming his hands on the apron. Earl yells at him to get back in the ring and keep wrestling, and Angle yells at Hebner to mind his own frickin' business, he'll get in when he's ready!
Angle gets back in and Benoit is right on him, kicking and chopping the "Olympic Hero". Benoit delivers a Snap Suplex for a two count and then stays on Angle with a chinlock. Angle reverses and we get a series of back and forth hold attempts from both men, leading Angle to get Benoit in a tight front facelock. Benoit gets to the ropes and Angle holds on for a full count of five. Earl yells at Angle and warns him about following the rules, and Angle says he knows the damn rules before stomping Benoit into the turnbuckles. The fans are chanting for Benoit as Angle yells and tells them to "SHUT THE HELL UP!" getting major heat from the crowd.
Angle grabs Benoit from behind and hits a German Suplex... and then another... and then he goes for a third, but Benoit blocks it and delivers a series of elbows, before reversing it and then hitting his OWN German Suplex... rolling into ANOTHER German Suplex.... Angle tries to block, but Benoit releases to blast Angle in the back of the head with a forearm before delivering ANOTHER GERMAN SUPLEX, this time holding on for a two count! Benoit stays on the attack, trying for a Crossface again, but Angle manages to escape and roll out. Angle is up and angry, charging Benoit, but "The Canadian Crippler" dodges it and sends Angle chest first into the buckles before hitting a Belly to Back Suplex to Angle! Benoit gives the throat slash taunt and heads up top, where he attempts the Diving Headbutt, but Angle avoids it! Angle is back up and drops the straps, and he grabs Benoit and delivers the Olympic Slam! Angle makes the cover, but just a two count!
Angle yells at Earl Hebner about the count, slapping his hands together, before heading up top. Angle makes it to the top turnbuckle and then flies off with a Moonsault attempt, but Benoit rolls out of the way of that! Benoit then executes an Oklahoma Roll, but Angle kicks out... and Benoit transitions into the Crippler Crossface! Angle manages to reverse it rather quickly into a cradle pin attempt for a two count. Benoit is quick to his feet and grabs Kurt from behind, trying for another German Suplex, but Angle blocks it and transitions it into a leg scissors, and he latches on with the Ankle Lock! Kurt has the Ankle Lock on tight, but Benoit scratches and claws with tenacity and gets the ropes, and Angle once again holds on for a five count! Earl says if he does it again, he's disqualified, but Angle brushes him off and stomps the ankle of Benoit again.
Angle grabs Benoit's leg and pulls him to the center of the ring, trying to lock the Ankle Lock back on, but Benoit ducks and rolls and sends Angle into the corner. Benoit rushes in and tries for a clothesline in the corner, but Angle dodges it. Angle stumbles away and Benoit is staggering backwards, holding his chest. Angle turns and tries for another Olympic Slam, but Benoit slides off and he takes Angle down, and HE LOCKS ON THE CRIPPLER CROSSFACE! CRIPPLER CROSSFACE! Angle is close to the ropes, though, and he gets his fingers on the bottom rope, but Benoit adjusts and rolls Angle over him and into the center of the ring! BENOIT PULLS BACK HARD, EVERY VEIN IN HIS NECK POPPING OUT AS ANGLE'S RIGHT ARM FLAILS AND TAPS OUT!
CHRIS BENOIT GETS THE WIN AND THE FANS ERUPT!
Winner by Submission: Chris Benoit
Benoit celebrates in the ring as Earl Hebner raises his hand. MVP says that Benoit's training in Calgary certainly paid off, as he looked very game to roll on the mat and showed his submission prowess tonight. Kurt Angle was not happy about this at all, screaming at Hebner before heading up the ramp and confronting Dasha, then taking her microphone.
"THIS IS ROBBERY! I had the ropes, Hebner! Look at the rulebook! Benoit, this isn't over! You didn't beat me, this is a sham, OH, IT'S TRUE! IT'S DAMN TRUE! I'm coming for your license, Hebner, and I'm going to get this taken care of! Oh, and ALL OF YOU HICKS IN ALBUQUERQUE CAN KISS MY OLYMPIC ASS!"
The fans chant for Benoit, who grabs the mic, "GO CRY INTO YOUR GLASS OF MILK, KURT, BECAUSE YOU... TAPPED... OUT! AND THERE'S NOTHIN' YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT!" Benoit gets on the middle turnbuckle and poses for the crowd, as Angle storms off in a fit of rage.
Jimmy Smith signs off for he and MVP as the credits roll and the show comes to an end.
