INTERNATIONAL PRO WRESTLING
"Saturday Night Spotlight" Ep. 2
Buffalo, New York
The show opens with a bang, as these fans in Buffalo are ready for some action! We head to the broadcast desk, where we see the voice of IPW, Joey Styles, sitting in with partner and lead analyst "The Professor" Mike Tenay!
Styles lets everybody know that we are just one show away from the highly anticipated "ShowDown: Brooklyn", and tonight we should be getting an idea of how that card is going to be shaping up. Tenay says that we already know we've got three big matches taking place. Styles goes on to talk about how Perry Saturn could be out of IPW for good if he loses the unsanctioned street fight at ShowDown against a still yet to be revealed mystery opponent. Tenay says he is personally looking forward to the super match between current Middleweight champion, Buddy Murphy, and "The Whole F'N Show" Rob Van Dam! Styles then says that at "Friday Night Wrestling" it was announced that Lightweight champion Isaiah "Swerve" Scott would be defending his championship against technical wrestling wunderkind Zack Sabre Jr.!
Styles says they need to cut backstage, as there seems to be something happening. Styles sends it to Jeremy Borash.
Jeremy says there is a commotion going on at the wrestler entry point, as Perry Saturn is trying to get into the building!
Saturn says he demands to see Dan Severn, and he wants to know who he's fighting at "ShowDown" and he's not taking any of this waiting bullshit anymore! Saturn wants answers!
Just as it seems like Saturn is going to take on security, Commissioner Dan Severn makes his way to the door.
Dan tells security to escort Saturn into the building and into a safe location, because all will be revealed tonight, and he can stick around to meet the man he faces in Brooklyn!
We head back to Joey and Mike at the desk, and they are selling the crap out of this upcoming reveal before sending us to the ring for the first match of the evening.
Eddie Kingston vs. Kalisto
"The Mad King" attacks Kalisto before the bell, and lays into him with some stiff brawling. Kingston puts a beating on Kalisto, but Kalisto makes a fiery comeback. Kingston tries to catch Kalisto with a low blow from the mat, but Kalisto side steps it and grabs Kingston's arm, rolling him up for the flash three count!
Winner by Pinfall: Kalisto
After the match, Kingston shows his lack of sportsmanship and smashes Kalisto with a Backfist to the Future to the back of his head as his hand is being raised. Kingston gets on the microphone and says Kalisto won a little battle, but Kingston is all about wars, and he says nobody in IPW can survive a war with the King.
We go backstage, where we see Chris Benoit doing squats in the locker room, warming up for his match in the main event tonight. Curt Hennig makes his way into the shot. Hennig says it doesn't matter what Benoit does to try to prepare, he'll never be "perfect", and so he doesn't have a chance of winning tonight. Benoit says he doesn't need to be perfect, he just needs to be better than Curt Hennig, and that'll be easy enough! Benoit then unloads a few overhand punches on the smarmy Hennig before the boys break it up. Benoit spits on Hennig, who is holding his head in pain but is still trying to show a grin, hoping he's gotten into the head of his opponent tonight.
Hayabusa vs. Shane Thorne
Thorne would show some decent wrestling skills throughout this match, and he tried to use some dirty tricks to slow down Hayabusa, but the Japanese star had an arsenal that was just too deep on this night. Hayabusa would end up countering a corner whip and catching Thorne with a no look Corkscrew Huracanrana from the top turnbuckle, rolling him up for the mesmerizing three count!
Winner by Pinfall: Hayabusa
Owen Hart is backstage yelling about wanting a match in the locker room. He says he wants to see Dan Severn and get all of this straightened out, as he is the premier wrestler in IPW! This leads Lance Storm to walk past everyone and get into Owen's face.
Storm says he's known Owen for a lot of years, and he has a lot of respect for his family. Owen nods and seems to take the compliment. Storm says he knew his father and says Hart got a lot of great things from him... but it's too bad he didn't get any of his class! Storm says if he wants a match, he's got one later tonight with him! Hart kind of laughs and then looks like he's going to go for a slap on Storm, but it's Davey Boy Smith who grabs Owen's arm and stops it from connecting!
Smith says, "I don't think so, brother." He says he's got to go out and wrestle a match, and he says it sounds like Hart had better get ready for his own. Hart backs up and stares down his brother-in-law for a moment, before turning and waving off the whole situation.
Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Davey Boy Smith
"The Beast from the East" puts a hurting on "The British Bulldog" early. After losing an attempt to out power Smith in a grapple, Bam Bam engages again, but tricks Smith into walking into a vicious headbutt, followed by repeated clubbing blows! Bam Bam sends Smith to the outside with a clothesline, and then body slams him on the floor, and it doesn't look good for Smith. Back in the ring, Smith avoids a Running Diving Headbutt from Bam Bam, and turns the tides around. Bam Bam is knocked off his feet with a Running Flying Shoulderblock, but it only gets Smith a two. Bam Bam uses an eye rake, followed by another headbutt and then a Belly to Back Suplex before calling for the end. Bam Bam scoops up "The Bulldog" and is looking for the Greetings from Asbury Park, but Smith slides off of his shoulders and when he turns, Smith hoists him up with amazing strength and slams him down with a Body Slam! Buffalo is on their feet now! Smith goes up to the top rope and waits as Bam Bam stumbles to his feet. Smith flies off, connecting with a Flying Clothesline and makes the cover, getting the three count and the fans are going nuts!
Winner by Pinfall: Davey Boy Smith
Davey Boy is celebrating when Owen Hart makes his way out to the ring and attacks Smith from behind and puts the boots to him! Owen goes outside of the ring and grabs a chair, heading in and smacking Smith in the left leg with it multiple times before Lance Storm and security hit the ring to stop "The Black Hart"! Hart rolls out of the ring once the cavalry arrives and hops the guardrail, yelling at Storm that he's got it coming to him later!
We go backstage, where we see Jeremy Borash standing in with one of the newest additions to the IPW roster, Ultimo Dragon! Dragon is standing in with a translator. Borash welcomes Dragon to IPW, and says he is excited to see him in action tonight against Taka Michinoku! Dragon thanks Borash, and says tonight, he knows he is facing a very dangerous and brash opponent, but he says nothing is more dangerous than a Dragon, and tonight, Taka's dreams are going to burn as Ultimo Dragon rises to the top of IPW! Dragon poses and we head back to the ring.
Bandido vs. Danny Burch
Danny Burch is as tough as they come, but he had a hard time getting a grip on the Mexican sensation Bandido, and Bandido was able to make quick work of him, catching Burch with a Standing Spanish Fly to get the pinfall!
Winner by Pinfall: Bandido
We go backstage, where we see Perry Saturn being lead by security to where Dan Severn is standing, along with Jeremy Borash. Severn says Perry Saturn's IPW contract is in jeopardy at "ShowDown: Brooklyn", and he's got to beat the man of his choosing to keep it. Saturn reminds Severn that if he jumps through his stupid little hoops and wins this match against whatever sad, sorry piece of shit he's brought in, he gets a shot at the Heavyweight title! Severn agrees that those were the terms, but it's going to be easier said than done... defeating "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock!
Ken Shamrock makes his way into the shot, and he shoves Saturn, who is trying to get past security to get an early piece of his opponent! Saturn yells at Shamrock, asking if he wants to get crazy, as security is pulling him back. Shamrock stands back, looking a little wild eyed, but Severn gets his attention. Severn says that if he can beat Saturn at "ShowDown", then that title shot is all his. Severn pats Shamrock on the shoulder and the two walk off. Severn yells back that security can escort Mr. Saturn off the premises!
We cut back to Joey and Mike, and they are both floored by this announcement! Styles says Saturn and Shamrock, NO RULES!? UNSANCTIONED!? Who is going to win that war!? Tenay says he's not sure anybody is going "win" as much as somebody might just survive... but even that isn't a given with loose cannons like Saturn and Shamrock.
Tommy Dreamer vs. William Regal
Regal would start things off methodically, wearing down Dreamer on the mat, as the fans rallied behind the violent New Yorker, chanting for Dreamer to make a comeback. Dreamer would seize an opportunity to counter, and from there, he would lay into Regal with hard shots and take him to the outside, delivering a DDT on the floor! Regal would sustain a cut on his forehead, and he looked to be in pretty rough shape. Dreamer would attempt to finish things off with his Spicolli Driver on the inside, but Regal would slide off of his shoulders and deliver a low kick from behind, following up with his BRUTAL Knee Trembler to knock out Dreamer for the three count.
Winner by Pinfall: William Regal
Jeremy Borash rushes to catch Owen Hart before he goes out to face Lance Storm.
Borash asks Owen why he attacked his brother-in-law, Davey Boy Smith, earlier in the evening. Hart says that Smith had no right to embarrass him backstage earlier, and he says he is not a man to be taken lightly around here! He says he is going to get his respect, one way or another, and he doesn't care if it's family or whoever, he's going to get what he deserves from everybody around here! Hart tells Borash to get out of his way, as he needs to go teach Lance Storm a lesson now!
Lance Storm vs. Owen Hart
Storm and Hart would show a lot of passion in this match, as both men went deep into their arsenals and even their bags of tricks to try to one up the other. Storm had no problem getting down and dirty with Hart, pulling his hair, thumbing his eye, holding his tights, and the fans were behind Storm the whole way as Hart was frustrated and bantering with them the whole match! Storm would even try to lock on the Sharpshooter on Hart, attempting to really add insult to injury, but Hart would reverse it into a small package for a two count. Storm would make a tactical error, attempting a Springboard attack on Hart but instead getting caught in mid-air with a Dropkick! Hart would try to whip Storm off the ropes afterwards, but Storm would reverse and slide through Owen's legs, taking him down into a Single Leg Crab, but Owen would manage to twist his body and reverse, showing great technical skill and he takes down Storm, regaining his footing and he had Storm in perfect position to lock on the Sharpshooter! Hart turns it over right in the middle of the ring, and Storm takes only about three seconds to tap out from the pain! Owen Hart gets the win!
Winner by Submission: Owen Hart
Hart, however, seems to be refusing to let go of the hold! He's yelling at Storm, asking how he likes it!? He asks him if he regrets running his big mouth now!? This leads Davey Boy Smith charging towards the ring, limping on a crutch with a big brace wrapped around his knee. Davey Boy slides in and Owen notices this and let's go of the hold. Owen attempts to go on the attack, but Davey sends the crutch into Owen's diaphragm, and that sends him to his knees! The two exchange blows on the mat, with Davey trying to choke Hart with the crutch on the mat! Hart manages to escape under the bottom rope.
Smith gets to his feet as quickly as he can and gets the crutch back under him, but he's still goading Hart to get back into the ring with him! Hart grabs a microphone and says that Smith just saw what he did to little Lance Storm over there on the mat, and he says at "ShowDown", he's going to do the same to him! Smith grabs a microphone and says Hart is a coward, and he attacked him from behind earlier. He says at "ShowDown", he's going to see him coming. He says he knows Hart better than he knows himself, and when they are looking at each other like men, eye to eye in the center of the ring, it doesn't matter if he's got one leg, no legs, or both arms tied behind his back, because Owen Hart isn't going to survive "The British Bulldog's" bite!
Hart drops the microphone and back peddles, still yelling towards Smith as he retreats, but Smith is looking confident in the ring.
Joey and Mike put over what a huge match that is for "ShowDown", as brother-in-laws collide, and tonight has really heated things up for Brooklyn!
We go backstage, where we see Curt Hennig standing in with Jeremy Borash. Borash asks how Hennig's head is feeling after Benoit gave him a few lumps earlier this evening. Hennig says his head is PERFECT, as always, and it's the head of Chris Benoit that everybody needs to be worried about! He says he is in his mind and he knows that little man has an inferiority complex, and he is just jealous and envious of the "Perfect One"! Hennig says that everybody thinks there's some kind of chink in his armor because he lost to that Japanese goof Misawa at the Heavyweight Grand Prix! Ha! Hennig laughs and says it's not the belt that makes the man, it's the man that makes the belt, and while Curt Hennig still stands here before God and everyone the most immaculate creation ever made, Misawa is still... well, Misawa. And that's just not going to cut it. He says he is going to right the wrongs of the past, and he is more motivated than ever to prove he is everything he says he is and more! And that starts tonight with Benoit. He says Benoit is nothing but a hot head, persona non grata in the ring with a real man like Curt Hennig, who everybody paid to see, and after he's done mopping up the mat with him, he's going to be looking for his title shot!
Taka Michinoku vs. Ultimo Dragon
Taka has yet to taste defeat in IPW, and has been very vocal about his aspirations. Ultimo Dragon is one of the most recognizable and decorated stars from Japan, and he was looking to make a big impression tonight. These fans were solidly behind Dragon and gave him a huge ovation at the start of the match. Even Taka had to stop and take in the atmosphere, as these fans were rocking in appreciation for Dragon being here and he was working it. These two would have a stellar 12 minute match, going back and forth the entire time. Michinoku looked like he might have it won with the Crossface on the mat near the eight minute mark, and then later dusted off his Michinoku Driver II, but Dragon somehow managed to kick out! Michinoku would take to the sky, looking for a Moonsault, but Dragon would manage to avoid it. Dragon would deliver an Asai DDT, thinking he had it, as did the fans, but Taka showed his grit and managed to kick out. Dragon would stay on him, however, trapping him in a Dragon Sleeper and then locking on the body scissors, pulling it back. Taka had no choice but to tap out!
Winner by Submission: Ultimo Dragon
After the match, Dragon would have his translator enter the ring and he thanked the fans tonight and everybody watching at home. He says it feels good picking up his first victory here in IPW, but he knows he has a long way to go if he wants to be a champion. He says he wants to prove himself against the best, and he says he feels there is one man who represents the best in IPW, the man who has represented the best since day one... and that's Jushin "Thunder" Liger! He says he wants Liger to come out right now and face him in the ring!
And with the sound of Liger's theme, the crowd goes insane! Here he is, Jushin Liger, and he's coming down to meet Ultimo Dragon!
Joey Styles is putting this over with a lot of drama, while Tenay points out that these men have had many great matches in the past and this is something truly special for the IPW fans to behold.
Liger speaks to the translator and says that he is honored to be in the ring with Dragon once again... but he says Dragon needs to know that this is his ring, and he is ready to defend it. Liger says he has his own goals, and he wants his own title shot, and he says he will defeat Dragon at "ShowDown" to earn it! Dragon nods, looking at the fans, and says may the best man win, and both men shake hands as the crowd goes wild!
Styles yells that we have another HUGE match signed now, and "ShowDown" is looking to be an unforgettable night in Brooklyn!
We are in the parking lot now as Jeremy Borash is standing in with Perry Saturn, who is fuming outside. Saturn says that Severn tries to act like he's some kind of nice guy, like he's a man of the people, but really he's nothing but a self serving piece of shit! He's already lost control of the roster! This is wrestling, Severn! Saturn says he needs to get it through his thick skull, even if he has to beat it into him! Nobody wants his crap! He says he goes and gets Ken Shamrock, an old rival of his, to come and settle his scores! Saturn says Ken Shamrock thinks he's crazy... and Saturn goes and punches a car window, busting it out! Saturn then shows the blood on his fist and licks it and smears it all over his face and yells, "SHAMROCK, LET'S GET CRAZY!!!"
We are sent back to Joey and Mike, and Joey seems very disturbed by Saturn. Tenay says Saturn almost makes some valid points, but he's just got a few too many screws loose to keep it together. We head back to the ring for the main event.
Chris Benoit vs. Curt Hennig
Benoit goes after Hennig at the bell and these two lock up, and after tussling back and forth, they end up on the floor, still locked up! Hennig breaks free and thumbs the eye of Benoit before sending him into the turnpost! Hennig then places Benoit's head on the ring steps and stomps him to the head, causing him a lot of pain. Hennig gloats as the fans boo! Hennig chokes Benoit against the railing with his knee before lifting him up and trying to whip him across into the opposite railing, but Benoit reverses, and Hennig crashes into the steel! Hennig stumbles, holding his back, and Benoit grabs him and lifts him up, sending him onto the floor face first with a Flapjack! Benoit sends Hennig back into the ring and grabs him from behind, hitting a series of three German Suplexes! Benoit does the throat slash and heads up top, but Hennig rolls out of the way of the Diving Headbutt! Hennig goes for the Okalhoma Roll, pulling the tights, much like Owen Hart did to beat Benoit, but Benoit manages to kick out and reverse it right into the Crippler Crossface! Hennig manages to get to the ropes in a matter of seconds, though, thanks to good positioning, and then rolls back out of the ring. Hennig takes a powder, contemplating his next move, when Benoit flies through the ropes and takes him down, before mounting him and punching him repeatedly! Benoit picks up Hennig and tosses him into the crowd! The referee tries to break this up and get things back into the ring, but Benoit shoves him away and pursues Hennig into the crowd!
The referee calls for the bell, as Benoit is still kicking and punching Hennig, and officials hit the scene and get between the two men.
No Contest
Benoit is furious! Benoit gets into the ring and yells that he is sick of this crap! He says IPW and Dan Severn can take their rules and shove them up their ass! He says if Curt Hennig is half the man he says he is, he'll show up in Brooklyn and finish this match, and if anybody tries to stop it, he's going to tear them apart!
Joey says that this intense match is rounding off what is going to be an historically great night of wrestling in Brooklyn and tells the fans NOT TO DARE MISS IT!
And as the show comes to a close, the fans are chanting for Benoit as he stands and points at Hennig in the crowd, yelling and doing his throat slash taunt as the shot cuts to Hennig, looking frazzled and concerned, hurting as the show comes to an end.
