INTERNATIONAL PRO WRESTLING
"HEAVYWEIGHT GRAND PRIX, NIGHT TWO"
PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA
After an opening video going over the results of "Night One" and the weigh-ins, we head to ringside, where are joined by Joey Styles and Jeremy Borash. Joey lays out the first round line-up as we get a graphic for the tournament, showing the progression of each man. Borash then proclaims that tonight, ladies and gentlemen, we will have an IPW Heavyweight Champion, and that any man who has made it through this field of talent will be a deserving one!
We head to the ring for our first match of the evening.
Heavyweight Grand Prix Quarter Finals Match
Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Rush
Rush would come in looking arrogant, but after experiencing the power and agility of Bam Bam first hand, the smile quickly left his face. Rush has not tasted defeat yet here in IPW, but "The Beast from the East" put a stop to that, catching Rush flying at him with a Powerslam, before picking him up and drilling him with the Greetings from Asbury Park for the pinfall victory.
Winner by Pinfall: Bam Bam Bigelow
In the post-match interview Bam Bam would put over how hard and fast Rush came at him, and says he can see why he's been so successful. He said, though, that he hits harder and he's broken tougher men, and tonight, he's going to break everyone that steps in his way until he's got the Heavyweight title resting right over his shoulder.
Heavyweight Grand Prix Quarter Finals Match
Curt Hennig vs. Lance Storm
This match started off looking more like an amateur wrestling contest, as both men seemed out to prove to the other that they were the better technical wrestler after some harsh barbs were thrown around at the weigh-in press conference. Storm would go after a single leg takedown so hard and violently at one point, both men spilled out of the ring, but neither man would let go of their grip; "Mr. Perfect" would eventually, out of desperation maybe, use his strength and lift Storm and shove him over the railing and off of him, falling to the floor afterwards to catch his breath as the referee got both men back inside for a reset. Back in the ring, Storm would continue his strategy, but Hennig would change up his, gauging at Storm's eyes and fish hooking his mouth, grabbing his tights and trying to get any kind of advantage to get this thing over with. Storm would eventually break down and start taking it to Hennig, choking him, punching him and kicking him, even sending a kick square to his testicles at one point, which the fans actually appreciated after all that Hennig had said and done! Storm would attempt a Superkick near the end, but Hennig would duck it and answer back with a low kick of his own, getting big boos from the crowd as he hooked Storm in and delivered the Perfect-Plex for the three count!
Winner by Pinfall: Curt Hennig
Hennig would say in the post-match interview that this was all business as usual, and he proved tonight without a shadow of a doubt he's the best damn wrestler on this roster! He said Storm couldn't lace his boots, and when the pressure was on, he folded once again, because he can't hack it with a real superstar like "Mr. Perfect"! Hennig says he knows he's got that overgrown buffoon Bam Bam Bigelow in the next round, and he says it's just going to give him an opportunity to show his range and why he can beat any man, any time, anywhere, and there's nobody that can stop him! He said Severn might as well come out now and present him with that belt, because it's going to look PERFECT around the waist of Curt Hennig! The fans boo as Hennig struts out, seeming very confident heading into the semi-finals.
Heavyweight Grand Prix Quarter Finals Match
Sabu vs. William Regal
These two had a lot of people talking after their wild showing at the weigh-ins, and this match started out fast and intense. Sabu would come right at Regal, grabbing him with a headlock and punching him repeatedly. Regal would manage to shove him off against the ropes and deliver a European uppercut, followed by a knee to the ribs, but Sabu would jam his thumbs into the eyes of Regal and push him back all the way across the ring and through the ropes, sending the Englishman tumbling to the outside! Regal would stumble around on the outside, hurting and rubbing at his eyes, frowning like only he can in agony, when Sabu runs up the buckles and flies out, smashing Regal on the outside to the fans delight! Sabu gets to his feet and is looking around and finds what he needs... a chair! Regal is stumbling around ringside again, and Sabu launches the chair at his head, smashing him and sending him back down to the floor in dizzying pain! Sabu grabs the chair and tosses it into the ring, and then grabs Regal by the hair and rolls him in. Regal's head is beginning to trickle with blood, but Sabu hasn't seen enough. Sabu goes to his pants and pulls out a long spike! Shades of his Uncle, The Sheik, here, and Regal is leaning on the ropes facing the crowd, and he's in trouble! Oh, and Sabu begins to bludgeon Regal, stabbing him multiple times in the forehead with the foreign object, before digging it in, and the referee is trying to break this up! Sabu turns to the referee and backs him off, threatening to stab him with the spike! Sabu has the referee backed up into the corner. Regal has had some time to recover, long enough to get the blood out of his eyes, and he comes up behind Sabu and kicks him below the belt! Sabu drops the spike and is in pain now! Regal grabs the steel chair on the mat and unfolds it, setting it up in the center of the ring. Regal grabs Sabu, hooking his arms behind him, and hits his Dragon Suplex variation, smashing Sabu onto the chair and completely collapsing it and maybe breaking Sabu's freaking neck!
"OH MY GAWWWWDDDD!" shrieks Joey Styles, as Sabu lays lifeless.
"HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT!"
Regal is bleeding badly, and knows he has to make sure this is over. He knows Sabu has survived some brutal things before and knows he can't leave this to chance, so he grabs Sabu's legs, twisting them up, and then applies the Regal Stretch, wrenching that already hurt neck now. Sabu's eyes are open briefly, but eventually roll into the back of his head and the referee calls it, demeaning this a knock out.
Winner by Technical Knockout: William Regal
Regal is unable to have a post-match interview, as doctors get him to the back and will try to get him patched up before his next match in the semi-finals.
Heavyweight Grand Prix Quarter Finals Match
Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Owen Hart
Misawa didn't mince words at the weigh-ins about how he felt about Owen Hart, degrading him and his tactics, and Hart seemed to really take offense to the disrespect shown to him by Misawa. Hart and Misawa would trade holds early before Hart managed to pin point the leg, and pretty much went after it for the duration of the match. Hart would work over the leg mercilessly for the first three or four minutes of this contest, stretching it, stomping it, elbowing it, really trying to soften up Misawa later for the Sharpshooter. Misawa would manage to kick his way out of a leglock, before delivering spin kick to Hart as he is standing, sending him out of the ring. Misawa slaps his knee three times and yells out, motioning to the fans to get behind him and showing his heart and strength, which they appreciate. Misawa then grabs the top rope and launches himself over, delivering a Corkscrew Piscado to smash Hart on the outside as the fans cheer his name!
Misawa holds his knee on the outside, his pride maybe getting the better of him, and Hart takes note. Hart is able to make a comeback, smashing Misawa back first into the guardrail, and then lifting him and dropping him knee first onto the railing! Misawa hobbles to the apron in pain, but stays standing, and Hart kicks him in the hamstring. "The King of Harts" grabs Misawa from behind again, folding up his leg once more and then battering rams him into the turnpost knee first, sending him down onto the floor hard! Hart tries to get an "OWEN! OWEN!" chant started as he stands on top of Misawa's leg on the outside, grinding his boot into the injured knee, and the fans answer back with "ASSHOLE! ASSHOLE! ASSHOLE!"
Hart sends Misawa back into the ring and applies a Half Crab, but Misawa guts it out and makes it to the ropes. Hart turns him over and pulls him back to the center of the ring, attempting the Sharpshooter, but Misawa grabs up and pulls Hart's head down and delivers an elbow that rocks the Canadian star backwards and sends him down to a knee. Misawa gets up, shaking off some cobwebs and hopping on one leg. Hart is back up and shoots for the good leg, trying to take Misawa back down, but Misawa is able sprawl and reverse it, mounting Hart's back and delivering repeatedly elbows, both inside and downward, causing Hart to cover up and yell out in pain as the fans cheer on the Japanese star! Misawa gets back to his feet, still hobbling, as Hart stumbles up, and Misawa jumps up and catches him with a Spinning Back Heel Kick and Hart is down. Misawa goes down to a knee for a second, but rushes back up and delivers a Senton and goes for the cover, but Hart kicks out, oh, but Misawa grabs his arm and locks on a Cross Armbar! Hart is hurting here, but he's close enough to the ropes to get his feet on them to break the the hold.
Misawa stays on Hart, blasting him with elbows, but Hart rakes the eyes to cause Misawa to turn away and then gives him a running low kick, sweeping his leg out of from under him and sending him back to the mat. Hart grabs the leg and slams it on the mat. He yells at the fans to "COME ON! CHEER HIM NOW!" before quickly heading to the middle rope and then coming off with a kneedrop onto Misawa's hurt knee, sending Misawa rolling in pain on the mat, looking like he's going to die from agony! Hart taunts the fans again, cupping his hand over his ear, "WHADDYA THINK ABOUT THAT!?" He then goes over to Misawa and pulls him into the middle of the ring before doing a "lasso" like motion over his head. Hart proceeds to try to lock on a Figure Four, but Misawa puts a boot into his rear end and sends him flying face first into the turnbuckles! Misawa is up, hobbling, but moving as fast as he can with pain etched across his face and grabs Hart from behind...
BIG GERMAN SUPLEX, HART LANDS RIGHT ON HIS NECK!
It takes a minute, but both men reach their feet. Misawa goes for a Rolling Elbow, but he's a bit slow on the draw and Hart ducks it and grabs him from behind, rolling him up and he's got a hold of the tights! He used a similar tactic to win his last match, but NO! Misawa manages to kick out, and he's got Hart wrapped around the waist with his legs. Misawa is hitting Hart from behind in the back of the head. Hart manages to push one leg off of him, but Misawa switches his position into a seated Crucifix Position. Hart is trying to escape, but Misawa is dropping bombs, blasting him with downward elbows, and the lights seem to be going out on Hart. Hart is pretty limp, but Misawa is not done, lifting him up off the mat and hooking his left arm in a Half Nelson and wrapping his other arm around him...
"TIGER SUPLEX '85! TIGER SUPLEX '85!" yells out Styles, and Hart was just dumped right on top of his head there.
Misawa manages to grab the near leg and roll-up Hart with a pretty tight cover, still selling the left leg injury as he doesn't put any weight on it, and the referee makes the three count. Hart tries to kick out about a half second too late, but it's clear he doesn't have any fight in him. The fans give this match a great ovation, as these two both put on a great show tonight.
Winner by Pinfall: Mitsuharu Misawa
After the match, Misawa is hobbling and struggling to stand, but with the assistance of his translator said that Owen Hart tried his best but proved he is not ready to be the champion. He said Hart's arrogance was too much and he couldn't execute his strategy well enough, and he paid the price. Misawa says it was a hard match, and he knows it's not going to get any easier the rest of the night, but he says he is ready to teach William Regal a lesson as well on his way to becoming the Heavyweight champion.
Heavyweight Grand Prix Semi-Finals Match
Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Curt Hennig
Hennig was cocky coming into this, but seemed to get more nervous as the bell sounded and the fans were chanting for Bigelow! These two would tie up and Hennig would try for a headlock, but Bam Bam gets out of it and headbutts "Mr. Perfect" in the back of the head, sending him into the ropes. Bam Bam proceeds to lay a beating on Hennig, clubbing him and smashing him into the buckles until Hennig has to powder to the outside. Bam Bam is hot in pursuit, but Hennig grabs the ring bell and smash Bam Bam across the head with it, and Bam Bam is bleeding! Hennig shoves and rolls Bam Bam back into the ring and then heads up to the top rope, trying for a Double Axe Handle, but Bam Bam manages to show his toughness, side stepping it and sending a right hand into the gut of Hennig, flipping him onto his back on the mat as the fans cheer! Bam Bam grabs Hennig up and body slams him before runnig off the ropes and going for a Jumping Diving Headbutt, but Hennig moves out of the way! Bam Bam is bleeding it his eyes and stumbling around and Hennig jumps onto his back with a Sleeper! Bam Bam is walking around the ring, stumbling, carrying the weight of Hennig as he bleeds from his head. Bam Bam gets desperate and runs, turning and crushing Hennig against the turnbuckles, and "Mr. Perfect" lets go of the Sleeper as all of the air is sent out of his body! Bam Bam tries to gather himself and then runs off the ropes, trying to catch Hennig with something, but Hennig manages to jump up and grab Bam Bam into a Sleeper again, this time to spinning him and taking him down to the mat! Bam Bam is trying to get out, but he is bleeding and seems to be running low on energy, and Henning presses him down into the mat and applies the pressure. The referee checks his arm and Bam Bam seems to be out, so he calls for the bell. Hennig is going to the finals!
Winner by Technical Knockout: Curt Hennig
After the match, Hennig says he outsmarted big old Bam Bam and wore him out and got his hand raised in the end, just like he said he would! He said all of these fans can kiss his perfect ass, because they are all just jealous and are all just sour grapes because Curt Hennig is better than all of their little heroes! Well, they should get a new hero, go get a t-shirt, go get a poster, put it up on their wall and marvel at it, aspire to it, aspire to be as great as the first ever IPW Heavyweight champion, Curt Hennig, even though they will never even come close to his perfection! Hennig then says he needs to be excused, because he's got one more match to win tonight.
Heavyweight Grand Prix Semi-Finals Match
Mitsuharu Misawa vs. William Regal
Both of these men took quite a bit of damage in their first matches. Regal is sporting a bandage over his forehead that is pretty thick, while Misawa has a knee supporter on now, and seems to have a bit of a limp. These two go to the mat, and it's pretty clear both men want to end this pretty quickly, trading pin attempts and submission holds, both getting rough and gritty. Regal mounts Misawa and blasts him with forearms, but Misawa manages to take Regal over, trying for a Cross Armbar but then mounting Regal and blasting him with elbows, ripping at his bandages and then just pounding him with closed fists on the wound, opening it back up. Regal is selling like death as blood covers his face again and he stumbles around the ring, his face contorted in all kinds of pain. Misawa delivers a high kick to take him down, but only gets a two count. Regal fires back with a European Uppercut before kicking the injured leg of Misawa, sweeping him down and then locking on an STF, but Misawa manages to get the ropes. Regal is hurting, but grabs Misawa by the hair and pounds him with multiple quick European Uppercuts before hooking his injured leg and looking maybe for the Regal-Plex, but Misawa manages to escape with elbows and then flips over it, landing awkwardly and falling to a knee. Misawa gets back up, though, and delivers a mostly single leg dropkick to Regal, sending him down in a heap. Both men get to their feet and Misawa unloads and right left elbows before attempting a Rolling Elbow, but Regal delivers a European Uppercut as he comes around, followed by a German Suplex! Regal tries for the cover, but Misawa kicks out! Regal goes back to blasting Misawa with forearms and attempts a Dragon Suplex, but Misawa manages to escape and deliver a back elbow, followed by a Rolling Elbow that takes Regal off of his feet. Misawa stumbles around as Regal pulls himself up on the ropes. Misawa runs as best he can and jumps, delivering a high kick to Regal's face, sending blood flying into the first three rows! Misawa then delivers two very powerful inside elbows, cleaning Regal's clock before lifting him and awkwardly driving him neck first into mat with the Emerald Flowsion as his left leg loses power and gives out about mid-move, but the damage is done. Regal is out as Misawa hooks the leg half heartedly and gets the three count.
Winner by Pinfall: Mitsuharu Misawa
Misawa is on one knee of the mat, hurting as Jeremy Borash approaches him. Misawa places a hand of Borash's shoulder and pulls himself up as his translator enters the ring, and he's looking very hurt and worn down. Misawa says tonight has been one of the hardest nights of his life, as he has fought just two of the best competitors in the world, hands down... but he knows he isn't done. He says he's watched Curt Hennig for a long time. He says Curt Hennig is everything he hates, a man with no shame and no humility, who thinks he is God. Misawa says that everybody in this building is tired of hearing Hennig run his mouth, everyone in the world wants to see him get his ass kicked, and Misawa says even with one leg, he's going to give Curt Hennig the ass kicking of his life! Misawa gets some assistance to the back, and he's only got a short break here before he has to back up those words in the finals.
Heavyweight Match
Chris Dickinson vs. Jason Jordan
This match was serving a breather for the finals contestants, and IPW took the opportunity to introduce two new stars. It was clear, though, by the end, the star that this match was meant to feature highly was Jordan, though Dickinson did an excellent job of getting him over. Dickinson has a lot of charisma and in ring ability, and was able to really get himself over as a smug and unlikable heel, allowing Jordan to eventually take things over and get pops for dumping "The Dirty Daddy" with suplexes and takedowns. Jordan would look very smooth, powerful, and impressive in the end, delivering a Spinning Dominator to get the win!
Winner by Pinfall: Jason Jordan
Jeremy Borash comes in and tells Jordan that was a very impressive showing, and Jordan says he's been preparing for this moment for a long time. He says he's been ready to break out on his own and show what he can really do. Jordan says he's got his eyes on everybody in this tournament and this heavyweight division, because he says he's ready to be known as the baddest guy in IPW. He says whoever ends up with that belt is going to have a big problem, the whole roster has a big problem, because Jason Jordan has arrived and nobody is going to have answers for what he brings to the table! Jordan leaves looking very confident, and it's hard to say he shouldn't be after what we've seen so far.
Next out we have Commissioner Dan Severn and he has a brief case with him.
The fans give "The Beast" a pretty good ovation, as he waves and smiles to them. Dan says it has been an honor and a privilege to help IPW organize and present this tournament to the fans. He says he has seen some of the best wrestling he has ever witnessed so far in this tournament from some of the best athletes this sport has to offer. He says it now time to unveil the prize in which all of these sixteen men have been fighting for. He opens up the case and pulls out a championship belt, holding it above his head.
He says that while this belt may symbolize the status of a champion, it is the man that wears this championship belt that makes it a title worth holding. He says each of these sixteen men in this tournament have fought and done whatever it takes to earn the right to be called the best wrestler in International Pro Wrestling, and they have fought to bring honor, dignity, and respect back to this great sport of professional wrestling in the process. Dan Severn says there is no promotion of the face of this Earth that shows more respect to the craft and tradition of this great sport, and there will be no greater champion than the man who wears this title at the end of the night, because that man will have earned the right to call himself champion above anyone else, and will lead this promotion into the future as the standard bearer of IPW.
And with that, Severn hands off the mic and goes to the ringside area with the championship, as he waits to present it to the first Heavyweight champion.
Heavyweight Grand Prix Finals Match
Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Curt Hennig
This had a big match feel, as neither man showed much emotion on the way out, having been through two tough matches already this evening. Hennig's usual swagger has been diminished since his post fight interview, as he makes his way over to Dan Severn on the outside of the ring and looks upon the championship belt with his own eyes and knows this could finally be his chance to be the top champion of a major wrestling company. Mitsuharu Misawa, on the other hand, appears to have ice water running through his veins and doesn't bother looking at the gold, instead limping into the ring as quickly and convincingly as he can and then walking right across the ring and getting into the face of Hennig, who shoves him back and the referee gets between the two men and sends Misawa to his corner.
The bell sounds and both men just stare for a minute, eyes locked and trying to read what the other is going to do. Hennig kind of wipes his nose and begins to prance out and circle the outside of the ring, as Misawa slowly circles as well, waiting for "Mr. Perfect" to strike. Hennig comes in and initiates the first lock up, and we are off to the races, folks! These two are battling hard, trying to get a hold or a pin, anything at this point, any kind of advantage, with Hennig trying to keep Misawa down, but Misawa continuing to scramble and reverse, showing his technical skills against a very good amateur wrestler in Hennig. Hennig manages to get the injured leg and tries to lock it, but Misawa is able to grab him and pull him by the ponytail right into a Guillotine Choke. Misawa can't quite grapevine it, though, as Hennig is able to block the injured leg and stop him from locking it in, managing to escape and begin laying in with mounted punches.
Hennig brings things back up with a headlock, but Misawa whips him off. Hennig drives his shoulder Misawa on the rebound, taking him down, and yelling "COME ON! GET UP!" Hennig runs off the ropes and leaps over Misawa, who is flat on his stomach. Misawa gets back up and ducks and Hennig leap frogs him. Hennig turns and Misawa blasts him with an elbow, sending Hennig flipping and flopping down, causing him to take a knee and grab the ropes, holding out his hand. Misawa motions to Hennig and yells, "COME ON! FIGHT!" The fans are getting heated and cheering for Misawa now as he rushes over to reengage Hennig.
Both men exchange blows in the center of the ring before Hennig kicks the leg of Misawa. Hennig tries for a Back Suplex, but Misawa turns and reverses into a pin attempt for a short two count. Hennig is out and sweeps the leg, going for a cover but only a one count. Hennig catches Misawa with an armdrag and tries to hold him down, but Misawa rolls and headstands, flipping to reverse it and then catches Hennig with a Spinning Back Elbow, knocking him loopy and sending him rolling under the ropes. Misawa slaps his leg again and balls up his fists, yelling out, "LET'S GO!" before running and flying out onto Hennig with an Elbow Suicida through the ropes, smashing him on the rope! The fans are eating this up, as Misawa holds his knee, showing reckless abandon in his attack and pursuit of the Heavyweight title.
Misawa grabs Hennig and is looking for a German Suplex on the floor, but Hennig catches him with a low mule kick to break that up. Hennig then grabs Misawa by the legs and catapults him right into the turnbuckle with a nasty thud. Hennig is up and talks to these rabid fans, "HOW BOUT HIM NOW, DICKHEADS!? GO ON, CHEER FOR YOUR HERO! COME ON!" Hennig proceeds to choke Misawa, pressing his throat against the guardrail. He lets go and stomps him into the ground. Hennig then grabs Misawa by the hair and pulls him over to the table that Dan Severn is sitting at and smashes him face first into the table. Hennig then proclaims, "TAKE A GOOD LOOK, MISAWA! THIS IS THE CLOSEST YOU'RE EVER GETTING TO THIS BELT!"
That set Misawa off. Misawa back elbows Hennig in the gut and then proceeds to unload a series of elbows, backing him up, before whipping him and smashing him into the guardrail. Misawa then rushes up on him and delivers a High Kick straight to his face. Hennig looks like he might be trying to retreat into the crowd to get a reset from the referee, but Misawa pulls him by his tights and grabs him from behind, delivering an elbow to the back of his head before executing a German Suplex onto the floor! Hennig pops up to his feet momentarily before falling down, selling like absolute death! Misawa gets to his feet and raises his fist and holds his elbow, motioning to the crowd and getting them behind him, and they begin cheering his name once more! Misawa stumbles over to Hennig and stomps him before lifting him up. Misawa slams him face first into the apron before rolling him into the ring.
Hennig is hurting, reaching for the stars in the ring, looking like he doesn't know where he is. Misawa isn't moving very fast, but he seems to have a plan as he scales the turnbuckles. Misawa gets to the top rope and Hennig has reached his feet. Hennig takes a few steps towards Misawa's general direction and Misawa comes flying off the top, but Hennig, running on instinct, leaps up and catches Misawa in mid-air with a Dropkick, taking him out of the sky! Both men are down! Hennig gets back up and is stumbling around the ring, gaining his composure. Misawa pulls himself almost up on the ropes when Hennig runs in and deliers a knee lift, connecting right on the jaw to send Misawa flying back into the ropes. Hennig then lays in with a series of chops before grabbing Misawa and delivering a Kneebreaker right into a Belly to Back Suplex, bridging but only getting a two count! Hennig claps his hands, frustrated with the referee.
Hennig grabs Misawa and flips him over with a Snapmare before going for a Neck Snap, but Misawa reverses it, kicking Hennig right between the eyes! Misawa then rolls Hennig up with a School Boy, but only a two count! Misawa tries to hurry and grab Hennig for something, but "Mr. Perfect" reverses, sending a knee right into the injured left leg and then taking Misawa down into a kneebar, right into a kneebreaker! Misawa is hurting bad and Hennig thinks he can smell the end. Hennig wraps up Misawa's legs and looks confident as he applies the Indian Deathlock! Oh, the agony! Borash is sure he is going to tap, but the fans are rallying, pulling for Misawa! Misawa is hurting, selling his ass off, flopping on the mat and trying to roll, reaching for the ropes. Hennig is shaking his head, worried that he hasn't tapped out yet, yelling,
"NO! NO, YOU SON OF A BITCH! GIVE UP!"
But Misawa wouldn't give up. He fought, and clawed, sweat, tears, anguish all over his face as he got his fingers just barely on the bottom rope and the referee told Hennig to let it go. Hennig let go but then he got up in the referee's face, saying he needs to end this! He says Misawa can't go on! Misawa, though, pulls himself up, and yells at Hennig,
"COME ON! FIGHT ME, MUTHAFUCKAAAAHHH!!!!"
"MISAWA! MISAWA! MISAWA! MISAWA!"
Hennig turns and he shakes his head, sneering and then rushes Misawa and these two are just blasting each other, Hennig with overhand punches and Misawa with elbows! Hennig then begins firing off chops repeatedly, but Misawa starts sending shoot kicks into his left leg, causing Hennig to back up before winding up and kicking Hennig so hard that he flips upside down onto the back of his head! "YEEEAAAAHHHHH!" Misawa has his fists clinched and is feeling like he's got this match in the bag. Hennig is shaky getting to his feet and Misawa blasts him with a Running Elbow Smash, before grabbing him, hooking his arms and trying for a Tiger Suplex, but Hennig blocks it and stomps his foot and then delivers a Back Elbow. Hennig grabs Misawa, hooking him, looking for the Perfect-Plex, but Misawa punches and shoves his way out, hitting Hennig a spinning low kick and then hooking his arms... TIGER DRIVER! It was wobbly, but it connected! The fans are counting, Styles is selling it, but NO! Hennig kicks out at two! Misawa drops to his back, and he is disappointed, but the fans are on their feet, stomping and cheering!
Hennig is pulling himself up on the ropes again and Misawa grabs him from behind and turns him, smashing him with another elbow and then pulls him towards the center of the ring. Misawa scoops him up and he's looking for the Emerald Flowsion, but his leg buckles and Hennig rolls off of it and tries for a School Boy, grabbing the trunks, but Misawa rolls out of it at two and has Hennig is an Omoplata and begins blasting him with crossface punches and hammer fists! Hennig is covering up, trying to block the flurry and get away. Hennig manages to escape but he's hurting bad and Misawa is back up, looking furious about Hennig trying to cheat and win, and manages to deliver another Jumping Kick right to his face! Hennig is down, but he's holding his arm up, trying to get back up immediately, but Misawa grabs him by the arm and pulls him up, sending a boot into his mid-section and then pulling him in between his legs. Misawa hooks the arms and lifts him up...
"TIGER DRIVER '91! TIGER DRIVER '91! HENNIG HAS BEEN ANNIHILATED!"
The fans are jumping and cheering as Misawa manages the cover, flopping on Hennig and the referee counting three! It's over! We have a champion!
Winner by Pinfall, and FIRST IPW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION: Mitsuharu Misawa
Misawa just lays on the mat for awhile, as Hennig rolls out of it and tries to recover on the outside and maybe walk out on his own. Misawa is drenched in sweat and Dan Severn helps him to his feet and gives him a short hug, before raising his hand as the fans cheer! The fans are chanting "MISAWA! MISAWA!" as his translator gets into the ring. Severn says it is his honor to present Misawa with the championship belt and the fans get louder as Misawa holds the title over his head, looking completely beaten down but victorious. Borash asks him if he has anything he wants to say. Misawa says tonight is one of the best nights of his life. He fought some of the hardest battles he's ever had to overcome, but he did it for everybody here, everybody watching, his family, and to prove to himself that anything is possible if you never surrender and keep fighting! He says that's what he is going to do, keep fighting, as the IPW Heavyweight champion!
The show comes to an end as Misawa poses on the buckles with the title wrapped around his waist, and we all take in the achievement that was had this evening.
