INTERNATIONAL PRO WRESTLING
"HEAVYWEIGHT GRAND PRIX, NIGHT TWO" WEIGH-IN & PRE-SHOW
PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA
The show begins with Joey Styles welcoming everybody to the press conference, and talks a little bit about how things are going to go down tonight. We then get Commissioner Dan Severn up to the podium, and he introduces the first two wrestlers as the proceedings get underway.
Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Rush
Bigelow steps on the scale lumbering, and tips the scales at 384 lbs. Bam Bam beats on his chest as he backs away from the scale and returns to his seat on the right side of the podium. Mexican superstar Rush is up next, and "The White Bull" flexes his biceps as the scale reads 223 lbs. Rush is looking ripped and pretty bulky for him, but anybody can see the 150 or so pound weigh difference will be a factor in this match, one way or another.
"Rush, I've been in this business for years and I've beaten up a lot of pretty boys like you. You think you're pretty hot stuff because you're on some winning streak right now, but streaks are meant to be broken. Rush, I'm not just going to break your streak, tomorrow night I'm gonna break you in half and I'm going on to get that belt."
[Aided by translator] "I heard that big mouth spitting and yelling up here about me, and Bam Bam, I have to admit, you are an impressive guy. Look at you. Big, strong, all marked up with tattoos. I think a guy like you has to look like that because they are scared. You're trying to intimidate me, but nobody intimidates 'The White Bull' and I run from no man. You're going to break me in half? How about I kick the rest of your teeth out. You think you're going to win that belt, cabron? Haha. No, I don't think so. That championship is going to look pretty great right around the waist of Rush, no? Wouldn't you all agree? I'll do everybody here a favor and I'll knock this guy out of the tournament so you don't have to keep looking at him."
Curt Hennig vs. Lance Storm
Next out we have Curt Hennig and Lance Storm, who get pretty good reactions from the crowd. Hennig is really hamming it up, playing to the audience.
Hennig steps on the scales with his arms outstretched and head tilted back, smiling as Joey Styles announces his weight at 248 lbs. Hennig steps off and whips the scale with a towel, motioning for Storm to get on. Storm shakes his head in disapproval at the demeanor of "Mr. Perfect" before stepping on the scale and looking out with a serious countenance, his weight being announced at 229 lbs. Storm steps off and goes to the left side of the podium, having a seat as both men prepare to speak about their match.
"Listen, I didn't need no referee to save my hide at Night One like 'Mr. Personality' over there. I won my match, fair and square, because Curt Hennig is the most superior specimen of man IPW or the wrestling world has to offer. They call me 'Mr. Perfect' for a reason, and what you see before you, ladies and gentlemen, is a man made of championship material. I was born to hold championship gold, and carry this company on my back. I'm the most talented wrestler, the best looking wrestler, the all around package. The only thing Lance Storm could beat about me is my insomnia after I watch one of his matches. I'm sleeping like a baby. Tomorrow night, though, it's going to be another story, as I'm going to leave Lance Storm sleeping in the middle of that ring as I get my hand raised and move on to the next round of the Heavyweight Grand Prix."
"Curt Hennig, I'm glad you shut your mouth when you did, because I thought I was going to be sick there for a minute. You all saw how he won his match on Night One, and it's a shame and a travesty that he is here tonight. But ladies and gentlemen... if I can be serious for a minute, I want to talk about my match on Night One. Perry Saturn, you scumbag, the next time I see you will be the last time you eat solid food for months. You disrespected me and this great sport, and you tarnished my victory going into tomorrow night's second round. I won't forget it, and neither will you when I'm done with you. Now tomorrow night, Curt Hennig, I'm going to make an example out of you. Your arrogance and braggadocios behavior has no place in a serious profession, the sport of professional wrestling, and I'm going to make up for what happened on Night One to prove that I belong here and I deserve to be called Heavyweight champion."
William Regal vs. Sabu
Regal looks absolutely disgusted to be here, frowning as he looks out on the crowd and waving them off dismissively. Sabu comes out and looks wild, and has a handler with him to try to keep him in check, as he seems nervous about the affairs at hand. Regal is the first to step up on the scale, with his hands behind his back and nose stuck up, Styles announcing his weight at 242 lbs. Regal steps down, wiping his feet before heading back to his seat on the right side of the podium. Next is Sabu, who is lead to the scale. Sabu points to the sky as it is announced he weighs 225 lbs. Sabu backs off and raises his fists, sneering at the officials as he makes his way to his seat.
"Look at this barbarian, this is bloody insulting. I am a man of sport, a refined individual, a gentleman and a scholar, and I shouldn't be subjected to facing a man with drool and dribble all over himself, pacing like a dog, a common beast if I ever saw one. It should be academic, I'm going to tame this savage, beat him into submission, and hopefully put him down before he can hurt himself or anybody else. It's a public service, really. This mentally deranged derelict should be euthanized, and I suppose I have been appointed animal warden in this instance. It's neither here nor there, there are other competent professional wrestlers in this tournament and once I am done with the sideshow, I will get back to doing what I do best and that is excelling in serious competition. The championship is all but mine, and I am prepared to procure it by any means necessary."
Sabu is brought up to the podium to speak, but instead tries to go after Regal, who runs nearly off stage, pulling officials in front of him with a look of horror on his face. Only when Dan Severn steps in and Sabu is able to wrangled nearly off stage does Regal push them aside and begin holding up his fists, feigning as though he actually wants a fight with the madman. Regal fixes his collar, brushes off his shoulder and walks off looking more sour than he did before about this whole affair.
Owen Hart vs. Mitsuharu Misawa
"The King of Harts" makes his way out with some pageantry, wearing a crown and a robe, playing to the audience with a wide smile on his face. Misawa comes out looking very serious, wearing a green vinyl bomber jacket with "MISAWA" on the back, and he gets right up into Hart's face, showing aggression and no fear, causing Hart to back off a bit and lose his cool, the smile fading from his face. Hart removes crown and slicks his hair back, taking off the robe. Hart stands on the scale, fists raised over his head, trying to regain his composure and is announced at 228 lbs. Misawa removes his jacket and throws it at Hart, who is now seated on the right side of the podium, and steps up onto the scale is authority, holding up his elbow as he is announced at 234 lbs. Misawa steps down and marches back to his seat.
"Did you all see that? Did you all see that disrespect this guy just showed me? And people try to say that I'm a bad guy! Ha! Listen, punk, I don't know what your problem is tonight, but tomorrow night, you've got a big problem, because you're stepping into the ring with Owen Hart. You got it, punk? You're going to be facing the best of the Hart family, and the Hart family is the greatest dynasty is wrestling history! You got that? You understand? I don't care who you think you are or what you did on some pissant little island nobody gives a damn about. You're in the big leagues now, and I'm going to teach you some respect! And as for the rest of you, I've heard a lot of tough talk and a bunch of crap, and you all know and everybody knows it's just a formality that I'm not holding the Heavyweight title right now! "The King" of IPW sits right here, baby, that's all there is to it, and you can take that to the bank."
[Aided by translator]"My opponent is a parody of a wrestler, a mockery of what it means to be a sportsman. He has skills, he has charisma, but he has no heart, despite his family name. He cheats his way to victory at Night One, and now he thinks he is worthy to face me? He has disgraced this entire tournament with his lack of ethics. I am not well known in the United States, that is true. I have made my name in my home country, and that work speaks for itself. Now, I have come here to get respect and make my legacy much greater. I can't let an asshole, cheating joke of a man like Owen Hart stand in the way of that. I can't let anybody stand in my way. Like I said after my victory over Kobashi at Night One, maybe I don't have the flashy looks, or the muscly, greasy body some of these other guys have. I just am the best professional wrestler on God's earth, so I guess that's going to have to be enough for you people, and it is going to be enough to win this tournament. Owen Hart, you are a joke, but it's not going to be funny how I beat you mercilessly tomorrow night."
And with that, Joey Styles gives the fans and press the final details about tomorrow night, running down the card one more time, and this show comes to a close. We will see at "Night Two" in Philadelphia!
