AEW Dynamite
August 8, 2019
Live from the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC
AEW Dynamite opens with the number one contender for the AEW World Championship, Kenny Omega on the big screen!
“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to another episode of AEW Dynamite. Before we get to the action, I want to address something. Last week, I walked into a battle against two of Killer Kross’s minions, PCO and Brody King. Killer Kross was incredibly kind and considerate to afford me such an opportunity against these two, and if I won, I’d get a shot at his championship.
Here’s the catch - it was never intended to be just a handicap match. Killer Kross reared his ugly head into the mix to ensure my defeat. It got me thinking and then I realized that Kross knows his minions wouldn’t be able to get the job done, so he had to take matters into his own hands, essentially making it a three-on-one situation. But then I also realized, that’s Kross’s entire game. Numbers. He can’t win a match without his minions, and his minions can’t win a match without him.
And because our General Manager, Mark Henry, actually gives a damn about law and order around here, he called Kross out on his bullsh-t and granted me an opportunity for the AEW World Championship in which Mitchell, PCO, and King are banned from interfering with.
Kross, come Fyter Fest, you won’t have the numbers to your advantage. It’ll be you against me and over ten thousand fans making sure that your reign as champion comes to an end.
Enjoy the show!”
We open up to the AEW National Champion, Brian Cage, on the mic. He talks about how he’s defended his title with vigor against any challengers who have stepped up to the plate. He says that he doesn’t want to be a complacent champion so he wants someone to step up to the plate and prove that they are worthy for a title match against him. He says if anyone can beat him tonight, he’ll give them a title shot at Fyter Fest.
“The Pope” Elijah Burke appears on the stage much to the shock of the fans and Brian Cage! He makes his way to the ring and snatches the mic out of Cage’s hand.
The crowd is cheering for Pope. He begins to speak and tells Brian Cage that he appreciates his ambition, but he’s gonna regret those words because Burke is now a member of the AEW roster. Pope says he doesn’t like wasting time to get to the top of the food chain, so he wants Cage to be his first victim. Cage nods and says ‘bring it on’ as both men remove their shirts and the bell sounds.
Match 1
Brian Cage v. “The Pope” Elijah Burke
The crowd breaks out in dueling chants as they are surprised to see that Burke is now in AEW, but also want to rally behind their fighting National Champion. This match is breaking down early with both men entering into a slugfest which Cage gets the better of. After several different power moves from Cage including a gorilla press slam, powerbomb, and chokeslam, Burke gets back on the offense with a stuff uppercut rocking Cage, followed by the Elijah Express (double knees) in the corner! A near fall frustrates Burke who begins to work Cage on the mat. Cage mounts a big comeback as the fans continue showing their support. Burke stops Cage dead in his tracks and goes to hit another Elijah Express, but the ref is in the way and receives the knees from Burke! Seeing an opportunity, Burke rolls out of the ring and grabs a chair, and then proceeds to nail Cage straight in the head with an unprotected chair shot. The fans begin to boo as Pope slides the chair out of the ring. The cover and the ref slowly counts 1…….2……..3. The fans boo as Pope grins while rolling out of the ring, motioning around his waist. The Pope is here in AEW and plans on seizing his opportunity at Fyter Fest.
Winner: Elijah Burke by pinfall

Swann heads to the top rope and attempts the flying splash, but White gets the knees up, driving the air out of Swann. White capitalizes on the situation and hits a huge Blade Runner for the decisive victory.

We go backstage to where Rich Swann has a guitar. You can tell he’s disappointed that he lost his match against the Switchblade but is trying to boost his spirits. He’s playing and singing an acoustic rendition of “Nutshell" by Alice in Chains, and he’s quite good.
Then we see Logan Shulo walk up to Swann while sipping on a hot cup of tea. Shulo looks at Swann who suddenly stops playing. He looks surprised to see Shulo standing there live in the arena. Logan speaks to Swann and simply says “Not bad, kid.” Swann thanks Shulo before he walks off as Swann smiles and continues playing.
Match 3
Lance Archer v. Rhino
Archer is making his return after suffering a concussion. He has a diabolical look in his eyes as he looks across the ring from fan favorite and AEW’s resident war machine, Rhino. This match was one sided for the majority of the time with Rhino failing to mount any offense against The American Psycho. Archer puts Rhino away with a huge crucifix powerbomb for the win.
Winner: Lance Archer by pinfall

Match 5
“Hangman” Adam Page v. Mike Elgin
For the majority of the match, a pissed off Elgin dominated Page. Any attempted comebacks by the Hangman were immediately shut down by Big Mike who still has a chip on his shoulder after failing to capture the National Championship at Double Or Nothing. Mike continues working over Page, trying to assert his dominance but Page finally starts to make the comeback. A superkick followed by a tombstone piledriver only give Hangman the near fall. Elgin tries to hit the Elgin Bomb on Hangman, but the crafty Adam Page manages to counter it, knock Elgin on the mat, and sets him up for the big Hangman’s Lariat that connects!
Winner: “Hangman” Adam Page by pinfall
After the match, Page grabs a microphone. He tells Switchblade Jay White that, come Fyter Fest, he’ll have nowhere to run and nowhere to hide. He says that after he finally puts White in his place, he makes his intentions known that he wants a crack at the AEW World Championship and it doesn’t matter if he has to take down the whole Kross Kult, or beat his friend Kenny Omega. He says Jay White is simply a stepping stone for him, and that come Fyter Fest, everyone will know just who the hell Hangman Adam Page is.
Joey Ryan is backstage. He says that Marty Scurll has been a pain in his ass for long enough. He says that while he usually enjoys a bit of give-and-take, Scurll is a man who is too insecure with himself because Marty's level of "power" doesn't quite match up to his. He says that if Marty wants another chance with him, he can take his shot at Fyter Fest. Joey then unwraps his Blowpop and winks at the camera as we go to commercial.
